This is one of the best Italian restaurants we've had in a while. We ordered polpettone (meatballs) as appetizer then the San Tommaso pizza (highly recommend it!), Tortello Verdi (which was amazing but a relatively small plate) and Carbonara pasta (which was good but nothing to brag about) everything was great!. We also had wine, and their selection is quite extensive. They offered complimentary limoncello when they brought the check, which was a nice touch. Prices are very reasonable, and the place is beautifully decorated, we were joking that it felt like we were in Italy. One thing to note is that you're expected to order at least one dish per person, which is fair given the quality of the food. On the downside, the service leaves a lot to be desired. When we arrived there was no host, and several people were waiting around. It seemed like no one had been acknowledged until I stepped in to ask. The attitude came across as arrogant and we experienced a similar vibe from the waitstaff. It feels like the restaurant may be suffering from its own success: great food and lots of attention, but service hasn't kept up. Would I go back? Absolutely yes. read more

This is one of the best restaurants I've visited in my life! We stumbled upon San Tommaso spontaneously and the personal pizzas drew us in. You have to make reservations online ahead of time to eat here but we just did them one day before and it worked. We went here TWICE in one week because it was THAT good. My personal favorite dish is the pear and cheese ravioli with pistachio sauce. I've never had anything like it and I would go back to Spain just to have it again. All of the portions are good sizes so come hungry. You can sit inside or outside but regardless the waiters are pretty typical of the area and overall good. My favourite dinner of my entire Europe trip this year. I can't forget this dinner. From beginning to end I loved every part of it. I made reservations well in advance knowing this is a popular restaurant and needs reso. I ordered the burrata, pizza and fettuccine pasta and chocolate cake for dessert. Each dish was amazing. By far, one of our favorite dinners! The food is exceptional and the service is great (shout out to Simone who is from Naples Italy). We loved the endless pages of sauce option you can choose to top their homemade pastas. So many options for pizzas too which was melt in your mouth perfection. And now I've convinced my parents to take a train from Madrid to Valencia (to see the city as well) but mainly because I wanted them to try this amazing Italian. We fell upon San Tommaso purely by accident as it was close to our lodging. The food looked amazing & smelled even better, even though there was a line it only took about 1/2 hr on a Friday night (without a reservation, which I would highly recommend if you are not one for taking chances on the wait) We were not disappointed but the pizza was a high light Our server, Piero, was a delight! It was very busy but he was super attentive & very friendly & informative. We sat inside and it was fun to see the large pizza oven in action but it seemed as if they had lots of space inside and out depending on what you like. We waited about 15 minutes for a table during the lunch rush. The restaurant smelled so good and enticing. They had a huge menu with tons of apps, pizzas, and pastas. The place was packed but service was great. I liked everything we tried. The octopus carpaccio came with arugula and roe on top. The octopus was thinly sliced. The focaccia was different than what I'm used to eating but still decent. It was a thick bread topped with fresh tomatoes and arugula. The menu mentioned garlic too but I didn't really taste it. My pasta was delicious. I got a parpadelle seafood pasta which had a nice tomato sauce and plenty of clams, mussels, and shrimp. Despite having reservations we had a long wait. We originally had 3 in our party but our 3rd couldn't make it. We were told it would be difficult to seat us then as our numbers changed. While waiting we saw 3 other parties of 2 being sat at a 4 top. They included pretty girls and Spanish speaking parties. We were finally put at a tiny table that vould barely hold 3 plates sticking out in the alley. After being ignored we finally had to flag a server to take our orders. When drinks came. I was brought a bottle of water with no glass and when our first course came out the server.just walked away. We had to get up and find someone to get us plates and utensils. Main came out and my son's marinara sauces was both bery sweet and very salty. Needless to say he only ate half. We walked in into this cute romantic restaurant with amazing ratings both on Yelp and Google. Pan to next scene....our orders arrived. My mushroom fettuccine Pasta was extremely bland. You could still taste the boiling water on it, and the mushroom sauce couldn't work its magic to save it. Hubby's spaghetti bolognese was hands down one of the worst. So we ordered a pizza to see what the rating was all about It came and it looked gorgeous but unfortunately just as bland and tasteless as the pastas. I must confess that this has been one of the best restaurant experiences we've had so far living in Spain (we've been here for about 4 months and have eaten at many different restaurants). Truthfully, I cannot praise this place enough! Good things all around! We came in December; therefore, the entire place was decked in Christmas spirit. The beautiful festive decor and the classical, soothing Christmas music are magically empowered by the dim lighting of a gigantic chandelier centered in the restaurant. Here's what you need to know: - The food is delicious no matter what you order, so go for it. We tried a host of their food and saw many other entrees that left our eyes wanting more but our stomachs begging for less (lol). *See our pictures for more info on our choices. - You don't need a reservation but it is highly advised. We were able to get in but we had to leave within an hour due to not having a reservation. If we went again, that would be the first thing I would do after booking train tickets and lodging. - The staff is amazing! They are extremely accommodating and welcoming. Mireia was our waitress. She went over and beyond giving us tips and recommendations. Her attitude and smile did nothing less than add to the enchantment of the restaurant. Also, her English is perfect. It's sad to say that I discovered this because my Spanish is that horrible. - They have both indoor and outdoor seating. During the winter, I would choose indoor seating for the beauty of the restaurant. During the summer, I would choose outdoor seating because eating under the old Valencian sky would be unreal. - The best thing is that the food is reasonably priced. For four specialty drinks, wine, water, two pasta dishes, a whole pizza, lemon gelato, and a huge slice of cheesecake, we paid 84 euros. - The beautiful art hung throughout the restaurant is worth the price of admission alone. Overall, what a wonderful experience in every possible way. Honestly, it might be one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Great place for the masses? Wine had a great price and appetizers were okay. But, we're visiting from New York City, and entrees were upsetting to my fiancé. So if you're looking for a meaningful meal, it didn't happen for us. The taste was one thing, but the presentation was comparable to microwaveable leftover pasta. San Tommaso is in the old town and it is stunning inside and out. The outside is calm and beautiful. Once inside the walls have great murals and the tables are very comfortable. The menu is extensive so there is something for everyone. Even a vegan can find something they love, and if not there is always the great Sangria. We love all of the pasta dishes. There is one with pine nuts and shrimp which is just amazing. The Focaccia with ham is so tasty. The salads are fresh from the local markets and you can't go wrong with any of them. Their wine list is nice and well priced. What we especially love is the service. The servers are so kind and will help with the menu and any questions you have. Best to call the day before if you want to eat at early times like 8:30pm. Excellent food and service. They have English menus too. We had meat and cheese platter it was amazing at least 5 types of cheese and meats. Pizzas have 8 slices and could probably be shared. Amazing salad with mozzarella and cherry tomatoes. We decided to dine at this restaurant for dinner due to yelp reviews, what a big mistake. We were told by a guy with a faux hawk hair that it will take 10 to 15 minutes to be seated. It took over an hour and half for us to be seated. Then it took another 15 to 20 minutes to get the menus or even a glass of water. We ordered pasta. Wow , sauces were bland and tasteless. We were visiting Valencia for business and decided to dine at this restaurant for dinner. What a mistake!!! We waited about 10 minutes to ask for a table for two and the gentleman told us wait outside and it will be 10 to 15minutes. After about 45 minutes he passed by and asked if we want drinks which was great. However we waited for 1:45 minutes before we were seated. Then it took at least 15 minutes for us to get a menu and even get drinks. By the time we received our meals it was around 11:00pm. Now we were little disappointed but felt like hey the food must be amazing so let's just enjoy a good meal. Nope, very mediocre meal. All dishes from appetizers and main dishes were not anything to brag about. Maybe we were just disappointed since all our dining experience so far were stellar. Will not return again.
