As an upscale restaurant I must admit the food and the service as well as the atmosphere was well above par. The staff really couldn't have been more professional. But also being somewhat upscale they were a little more formal than obviously a casual place. Once seated we were told we had 2 hours to finish our meal which is a very long time for just two Americans eating. The only issue I have is that our food arrived amazingly fast I mean like maybe under 5 minutes post ordering. After that the staff kept coming by asking if they could clear my plate because I eat quite a bit faster than my companion, my wife. They asked me two to three maybe even four times if they could clear my plate which really was unwelcome since we had 2 hours to finish our meal. As I stated earlier the food was really really good if you check out my photos the atmosphere was really nice. I am an architect and can really appreciate nice design and configurations. I would gladly go back and run to recommend this place I do know my wife stated the same issue I outline regarding being rushed and they said that they would adjust it. I would gladly revisit the establishment and when we return back to the Valencia I plan on going there once again. Stopping in for a glass of wine and some afternoon tapas. A wonderful little place that has a little more formal and casual indoor and outdoor seating. Parking in and around Valencia can be difficult. This is on one of the smaller side streets and definitely aimed towards foot traffic. We chose the less formal route, which was down in the bar area and had a wonderful view of all of the top plates offered. Our servers were very pleasant, easily conversing in English and Spanish, and informed us of the tapas process. The restaurant is clean and has a very casual vibe. Pricing is pretty straightforward, help yourself to sandwich and you're charged the same for each. Periodically hot tapas plates are brought out and distributed throughout the restaurant. A very economical way to have a very filling and variety filled lunch. There is a full bar that includes wines, ciders, beer, as along with coffees and desserts, If you still have room! Highly recommend recommend this location is a nice place to stop for an afternoon lunch. Eight of us had lunch here while on our full day tour in Valencia. Our guide, Adela, suggested several places for lunch, places that she frequents. We decided on Sagardi Valencia Centro, which services some tasty pintxos (Basque type of tapas, but individual servings, which are thick cuts of bread topped with a variety it toppings). We arrived before the place filled up. The bar had many plates of pintxos to choose from (2.50 euros each); plus they would bring out some hot pintxos from the kitchen. The one person behind the bar explained all of them. I selected four, which was plenty for me. They were quite filling. I had hoped for a better variety, as several of them looked very similar. I didn't see any with shrimp or squid. We didn't have the opportunity to try but one of the hot pintxos (they rarely came out of the kitchen), which was a chorizo type pintxos. It was excellent. I had a glass of red wine and my husband had a beer. Our bill for the two of us came to $31.12. We arrived at the perfect time. There were four tables available. By the time we finished the place was packed. They also have a main menu with some very expensive and well-aged beef. That would be something great to try if we are back in Seville and spending time there. read more

We walked out. The waiter was beyond rude. Threw the menu on the table and disappeared. Yes- he turned his back on us and tossed the menu on the table. Today's date is October 16th 2024 and it was around 7pm. If the owner or manager reads this- that young man is hurting your reputation and your business. Lose him. Who wouldn't be famished after a day of travels and making our way to old town, we saw Sagardi on Google and it had decent reviews, so why not? (Yes, had to resort to Google since Yelp isn't very helpful in international waters lol) Our server welcomed us warmly and we told her we wanted window seats. She gladly asked the next couple to move a bit to make room for us as all the window seats were taken. That was nice of her! (Window seats: great for pictures and also people watching) Sagardi doesn't have a menu but they have a buffet spread out which you can easily help yourself to some cold tapas: anchovies, olives, sliced baguettes topped with mushrooms, imitation crab, jamon, smoked salmon. I didn't see a lot of vegetarian options. And for those craving for hot tapas, the servers walk around with freshly fried croquets which are stuffed with jamon and cheese. Get it! Pricing is €2.10 per tapas and they keep track by counting your toothpicks in the end. Wine list is extensive (there was a pretentious wine snob next to us who could NOT find anything he liked! WTF?) We showed up without a reservation and there was a line out the front door of people waiting to get in. We assumed we were SOL. But it turned out that all those people were waiting for tapas. The maître d' approached us on the sidewalk and asked if we were there for tapas or for a proper dinner. Once we told her we were there for dinner she ushered us to a private room upstairs and we had a fabulous dinner that included in a bottle of Spanish Espuma (Spumante), a complementary plate of delicious sausage appetizers, a fabulous organic green salad, a main course of prime aged beef, a red wine recommended by our waiter, and a delicious apple tart for dessert. Great service to boot. I give the place a 4.75 rating. So glad we ate here since I love Basque food but had never experienced it at this level. Good wine list too. read more

Tapas here are amazing. So many different ones to try from, I love having a variety of food to sample! It's a buffet style so you just pick what you want and they'll charge by toothpick. I loved the crab salad with cheese on top. Creamy and flavorful. The artichoke tart was crunchy and I loved that you could actually taste the artichoke! The smoked salmon was perfection. They add a little of onion, a sprig of dill, and a dollop of cream cheese. YUM. Those were my favorites. This is Europe, so you really can't say much for service at any restaurant. Wine was good but not the year which was shown in the menu, instead of a 2013 we got 2014. Huge difference for a spanish wine. The flexibility wasn't there. We ordered jamon and received, by our mistake, beef jamon. Asking for jamon iberico which is available at the tapas bistro, is not available for the restaurant! Why? At the risk of hyperbole...the best dinner I've ever had...a "Lomo Alto" prepared by Juan Vincente that was the best steak I've ever eaten. I should put this into context...I am a native Texan! I've never even made a better steak in my own back yard! My wife and I had an amazing bottle of Rioja to go with it that went for about 25€...easily would've been 60$ in the States! Fun place in to try their different varieties of tapas. You put together your own plate and pay by the toothpick. Fun concept and good food! We liked the tapas with smoked salmon and another with ham. The food is not labeled, so we didn't know what we were looking at, but it's definitely fun to try! The red wine was average, we went with their recommendation and usually we like wine in Spain, but not that one. We still had a great afternoon here while our son was in class. Probably won't find a better pintxo/tapas place in this neighborhood. I've tried a few pintxos (tapas but on bread with toothpicks) places in this neighborhood and this is the most impressive one I've been to. I've only been there for the pintxos, but I believe there's an upstairs restaurant as well. The spread of pintxos is great, there's a display on the bar and you just go up and take your pick. Some of the more noteworthy items would be the crab with white yolk, the salmon, Iberian ham, and the sausage. The dishes that are out are usually the cold dishes, but the waiters/waitresses will walk around with platters of freshly made (and usually hot) dishes. If you're sitting outside, you may miss out on some of these if there's a big group inside (the waiters just can't get out there before it's all gone). If you know what you want, you can still request them directly. The drinks here are pretty good. I thought the house red wine was very good, and I also tried a local cider which was... different, but still good. I wouldn't recommend the cider unless you're fond of slightly more bitter drinks. Overall, a great pintxos or tapas place and definitely a good place to stop in if you're getting hungry (like most Americans) and it's no where near the Spanish dinner time (8:30 or later). read more

We went to Sagardi for pinchos one evening after exploring Valencia. Its a very busy place, that is popular with locals and tourist. When we arrived it was standing room only. We stalked a table in the bar area downstairs and snagged it as soon as the previous guests got up. There is a restaurant upstairs but you need reservations I think. The pinchos were arranged on the bar top. People were seated at the bar so it was a bit awkward reaching over people to get food. The waiters also circulate the food around the restaurant though as new items are prepared which I found to be much easier than trying to reach over people. There was a variety of hot and cold pinchos available. Each pincho was 2€. The quality was good but this is not the kind of meal you want if you are really hungry. At 2€ each, it can get expensive to get full if you are really hungry. I suggest Sagardi late night only if you just want snacks or want to chat over drinks. The staff is very friendly, courteous, and attentive. The staff speaks English and Spanish. We chose to practice our Spanish and they obliged. The restaurant is modern and clean. It's a great atmosphere for a relaxed evening out with friends. read more

Sagardi is a pincho bar, where they have small appetizers/tapas on a mini slice of bread. My friend and I were starving, wandering around Valencia around 11pm when we stumbled across Sagardi. It is super close to the Plaza de la Reina in the city center, and was still lively when we arrived. Each pincho costs around 2 euros (will look at receipt later), and they have a nice variety. Additionally, the servers will walk around with plates of hot pinchos (favorite being the croquettas and some bacon wrapped dish). You have to keep track of the toothpicks from the tapas, as that's how they calculate how much they owe. We also ordered a bottle of their house rioja, which was tasty as well. The pinchos I had were very good. and it's easy to go overboard! This place was so good, that my friend and I opted to have our final lunch in Valencia here as well! They have outdoor seating for nicer days (and people watching), and a fancier restaurant upstairs. But for tapas, the downstairs area is perfect. read more

This is a great little tapas restaurant we found as we wondered around town shortly before departing. There are several tapas restaurants located within the same square so the choices are many and may contain a street performer or two (guitar players, etc) which if they are good, are nice to listen too while you are having a great lunch and absorbing the great atmosphere of Spain! They had quite a variety of tapas which were pretty good, the service was good, and they had great sangria. Loved this place! The pintxos are soooo good. The first floor of this restaurant is standing room only when you arrive. Just dig in and start sampling the wonderful morsels that are available on the bar top. Then when a table is available, grab it. While sitting, the waiters come around with different platters of hot pintxos which are really delicious. Each of the cold/hot offerings are tracked by the toothpick count that comes out of each so they know what to charge you. I read a few of the Yelp reviews about Sagardi and decided to give it a go on a recent trip to Valencia. I must say, I'm happy I did. The restaurant in split between the pintxos bar downstairs and a la carte upstairs. We sat downstairs so we could sample the pintxos or basque tapas. There was great choice and you just help yourself so we were free to try as much or as little as we wanted. Typically we had quite a lot and counted about 20 sticks on our plates at the end! We had nothing to worry about though as at around €1.95 each, our meal was very affordable and well worth the price. Whether you want to sample something new or have had pintxos before, Sagardi is a good option when in Valencia. read more

I'll always remember this place as it was the first place I ate at when I was in Valencia. Popping myself on a stall at the bar I ordered a drink from the nice bar man before being given a plate and diligently working out the toppings on each pintxo (basically a 'toothpick snack') at the bar. Each pintxo has a cocktail stick through it, firstly to ensure that the toppings don't fall off when you pick the pintxo up, and secondly so the bar person can total up your bill at the end. After my first one I was addicted. Each pintxo was loaded with fresh well made and flavoured ingredients. Knowing my stomach had only limited space only made it only more difficult from the huge variety before my eyes. Really loved this place. We were lucky enough to get the private room upstairs overlooking the side street. Dined with my in-laws, wife and kids. We weren't that hungry so we got an odd selection of things. I started with the lettuce hearts salad. WIfe got the tuna tare tare. They had a nice kids tasting plate so we got one of those for Thing 2 and then the duck for Thing 1. Server brought the kids meals out with the apps which was much appreciated. Kids liked their food. Thing 1 loved the duck. For mains, mother-in-law got the hearts salad, wife got the salted cod frittata / omelette and I got a small rib steak...no sides. Salted cod frittata was nothing special. Steak was really outstanding. I take a lot of pride in my steaks (secret coffee rub, exotic salts, etc.) and I now have a new tasting level to work toward. The best part part of the steak was that it was clearly cooked at and very high temp. Outside was a little crispy while the inside was a perfect mid-rare.
