This was a Michelin rated restaurant and obviously thrives on the fact. Reservations are required. The sittings are timed but sufficient to allow for one to enjoy the varied and tapas style cuisine. We could only get two stools at the bar which might likely have suited a more romantic and younger couple. Despite this setback due to a previous day in-person last minute reservation the food and ambiance was excellent. Must say despite the frantic activity the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Our shared dishes were Grilled Sardines, Black Sausage (the best we've ever tasted), Cod Croquettes (nothing exceptional), Pimentos de Padron & Salad. The wine by the glass was good bit I'd skip the local region French style overly expensive Sauvignon Blanc and stick to Verdejo or other Spanish wines on offer. This is not a restaurant for a relaxing or a laid back evening. I don't think the servers feet ever touch the ground and the kitchen must be volcanic! Great value and well worth a one-off experience. Our meal €64.35 for 2 and like many tourists was rounded up to $65.00. We might be tempted to return but definitely only to sit at a table. read more

My husband and I walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night. We were given the only option of sitting at the bar. It was explained that there was a reservation for those chairs in 90 minutes. We agreed we could dine in less time. We started with the house white wine. It was pleasant. We asked for the cod croquettes. They were tender and flavourful. Our 2nd choice was the sausage cooked in cider. It had big flavour! Our bread soaked up the sauce. The 3rd was the blood sausage. It was my absolute favorite. I've been all over the world and have had lots of "blood pudding". This is by far the best. We finished with a cheese plate with 3 kinds. A flavourful plate. Not for wimps. It was accompanied by walnuts and candy. I spread some softer cheese on the rest of my bread. We had a very enjoyable experience. My fiancé and I had an incredible time at Casa Montaña. The restaurant is located close to the marina in the very coast of València. If you're staying in city center, make sure you give yourself time got get there. A bus stop is only 5 min away walking! You also MUST make reservations. It seemed like everyone who came by had a reservation. We made one about a month in advance once then opened up at 7:30pm. The restaurant is so so cool! The front is covered with old wine barrels and images. The back is more tables and seating. We sat in the torn of the restaurant and love it. Service was also quick and accommodating. We ordered a series of tapas! My favorites were the bread, peppers, marinated tuna and the blood sausage. I paired it all with a glass of the wine selection Montaña and it was perfect! Spent the morning at the beach and wanted to have a good meal and I found Casa Montaña through Yelp. Upon reading the reviews I decided to call to make sure I would be seated and although there were no tables they said I could sit at the bar. No problem! I decided to side step the dozens of options right on the boardwalk and take the 15 minute walk... and man am I super glad I did . Alejandro is the knowledgeable and proud general manager who told me the establishment was celebrating 186 years in business. I'm a sucker for all things historic so I was all in ... unsure of what to try, I let Alejandro be the guide , dish after dish of delectable local dishes - served as tapas because it was only me and I preferred to sample a variety of dishes - I was pampered and schooled on each and every dish ( please see photos ) so much so that I didn't even mind I had absolutely no leg room at the bar - just wanted to hear more about my next dish ..I could keep writing but I'd rather let the pictures speak for themselves. Critical information: this place is LIKE two restaurants in one. It looks like a traditional tapas bar, and you can do drinks and tapas ala carte, but there are also tasting menus, and it seems like there are some tables in the back, that are a little more formal. We had a great experience just ordering tapas, but I think if I knew they had tasting menus, I would have come in for that...and they seem like they are very nicely done. Casa Montaña sits on a calm street; we came here because it was highly recommended by a friend of mine who has visited Valencia many times. The evening we arrived, even though we had a reservation we had to wait fifteen minutes for our table. Very welcoming and friendly, the hostess waiting outside and chatted with us, as well as with several other customers who were waiting for tables. We ended up ordering some glasses of wine while we were waiting, and thereby got a fun head-start on our dinner :-) All the tapas we tried during our visit here were excellent! My only complaint is that the portion sizes were somewhat smaller than we received in other tapas restaurants we've dined at in Valencia. While we did not have a reservation, we were fortunate to snag the last two tables. Casa Montana had a relaxed and casual atmosphere. It appeared that there were many locals enjoying the ambiance. The restaurant was adorned with old wine cases, which added to the atmosphere and charm of Casa Montana. The service was great - everyone was very friendly, attentive, and provided solid recommendations. Staff continuously checked on us, cleared our plates, and talked with us as if we were regulars. The food here is amazing! I'm from Hawaii so I LOVE seafood! However, we kind of played it safe with our choices. We had cerveza, locally sourced red wine, the potatoes, muscles, white sausage, red sausage, ham and cheese (the sheeps cheese), cod croquettes, marinated tuna, lots of bread, and almost all the desserts they offer. Had dinner here with my wife. We haven't made a reservation and the place was really busy so we had to leave our names and came back. The waitress estimate was right and after a very short wait we have been seated. The place is very nice with all its cozy/old fashion and the room is completely surrounded by wine barrels. The menu is so rich that we are thinking about go there again to try more tapas. We want for all fish based dishes. Sadly we haven't been able to try the mussels because is not the right season. I'm not a big connoisseur of Spanish wines but the waitress helped me with a local red from Valencia. After reading all the reviews online, we simply had to visit the restaurant on one of our two days in Valencia. We made a reservation well in advance via the Internet. Everything was AMAZING! Skip the sardines but do get the smoked eel. Desserts were out of this world. Service was impeccable! The owner and his staff are so welcoming and friendly. And did I say it is super affordable? We enjoyed a wonderful lunch here recently with another couple. We had a reservation and they sat us in the back with the barrels, which someone else commented they didn't like. We did, it was cozy and quiet back there. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient and the waiter spoke perfect English which was very helpful. We all had the prix fixe lunch so we weren't very eclectic in our ordering but it looked so good and was about all that we would have wanted and then some. I added on a plate of olives ( addictive and delicious) and fried sardines, which were wonderful. The courses were excellent especially the tuna crudo, stuffed peppers, potatoes bravas and the steak. I didn't like the croquettes as they were rather doughy and a pale unappetizing color and too big. I also felt there was a bit too much in the carbohydrate department for the set menu. You get a large order of the potatoes, huge chunks of bread, and the over sized croquettes. I think if one of those dishes were a vegetable instead it would have been perfect. One of my rare 5 star ratings appears in Valencia. And to think, our group almost wasn't going to go here! When planning our trip to Valencia, I was looking into restaurants that a lot of blogs said was not too touristy and was very tasty for a decent price. Casa Montaña came up a few times so I decided to make a reservation for it for lunch. We came at around 2 and first of all, the ambience was great. Even though I love my small homey restaurants that serve the typical Spanish style of food, this was a nice change with a sleek, modern design! The waiter we had was fantastic and we actually took his recommendation on what dishes to get. If I'm remembering everything correctly, we got a tuna ceviche, tomato salad, patatas bravas, fried anchovies, grilled calamari, some of the beef, the red sausage and one more type of sausage, and some green peppers. I'm usually a pretty picky eater, but almost everything I ate was absolutely delicious. I'm a huge fan of the tapas style because you get to try out a lot of different foods! Furthermore, the desserts we had were fantastic as well and overall, this was one of the most satisfying meals that I've had in Europe so far. Oh, and it only came out to be around $18-20 per person! I've been wanting to eat here for many years and finally made it. The caretaker of our rental apartment told us that many of the ingredients used to make the dishes here are sourced from all over Spain, as the goal is to source the best ingredients to make some of their very special dishes. For example, from their website, the following: "Once the "El Pilar" national festival is over, we set out on the first of our four annual expeditions in search of the choice potatoes of the secano high inland area that we so enjoy. They're only to be found in the hills of the Montes Universales, thanks to the help of our friend Roberto, who knows the area intimately. " Knowing that one of their specialties was a simple dish of potatoes from Montes Universales, we ordered them. They were the best potatoes I've ever had. Fried crisp and crunchy on the outside, but soft with a creamy texture inside. I don't know why we only ordered one of these for the table, but at the same time I do. There were so many other dishes to try, like the chistorra, which surely must have been the best chistorra I've had over the several times I've been to Spain. The service was impeccable, and our server was not only a delight to work with, but very funny and multilingual, speaking Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Russian...and others. Because we were a larger group, we were escorted to the back of the restaurant, which in and of itself was a treat, but what was charming was sitting in what used to be the wine cellar, as Casa Montaña is a former winery. If you ever make it to Valencia, I highly recommend making the trip out to this location (as it's off the beaten path a little). And if you can, reservations are highly recommended. read more

I'd recommend making reservations because it's very popular, but if you don't make a reservation, don't worry because they also have some bar seating. Our favorite things here were the "atun marinado en 7 especias" (marinated tuna in 7 spices), "sepia amb ceba" (cuttlefish stew), and "pimientos rellenos" (peppers stuffed with bechamel and cod). We also liked their "txistorra" (type of sausage) and their desserts are yum too! I'd recommend the chocolate truffles for sure. A gem near the shores of the beaches or Valencia. Me and my wife were staying at the Hotel Neptuno along the beach in Valencia. During the stay, we became familiar with the long row of restaurants and their offerings on the Boardwalk. All of them seems to be the same basic make-up with the same target demographic of tourists. The food was OK, but mostly overpriced and pretty generic. Im sure there are some finds here, but we did not locate them. As luck would have it, we checked out Yelp and found a well reviewed restaurant a short 10-15min walk from our hotel. We made the short trek through a questionable neighborhood, and what we found was, simply, amazing. As soon as you walk in, you are transported by the decor of wine barrels. The details of the interior only hint at the excellence of the cuisine. We settled in, ordered a bottle of wine, and began to basically go down the list and order various tapas. Our server was an older french gentlemen. Although he seemed to be a more important figure there (owner, manager?), he talked to us the whole time and gave us recommendations. With each dish, the food seemed to somehow even get better! To our amazement, as our dinner drew to a close and we stood to walk out, we noticed a long line of people outside waiting to be served. I guess the location was only a secret to us, since it didnt seem like they were hurting for advertising, and their only limit was more space and delicious food to appease the masses.
