Reservations are required…read more The sittings are timed but sufficient to allow for one to enjoy the varied and tapas style cuisine. We could only get two stools at the bar which might likely have suited a more romantic and younger couple. Despite this setback due to a previous day in-person last minute reservation the food and ambiance was excellent. Must say despite the frantic activity the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Our shared dishes were Grilled Sardines, Black Sausage (the best we've ever tasted), Cod Croquettes (nothing exceptional), Pimentos de Padron & Salad. The wine by the glass was good bit I'd skip the local region French style overly expensive Sauvignon Blanc and stick to Verdejo or other Spanish wines on offer. This is not a restaurant for a relaxing or a laid back evening. I don't think the servers feet ever touch the ground and the kitchen must be volcanic! Great value and well worth a one-off experience. Our meal €64.35 for 2 and like many tourists was rounded up to $65.00. We might be tempted to return but definitely only to sit at a table.

To be honest, I didn't know which was which. And the brocheta that I got was amazing. It was the one with goat cheese cream stuff. Ugh, so good. A little bit too salty at the end, but I hear that's common in Valencia. Skip the patatas bravas. They're ok, but not worth it. The lumpia will be hit or miss, but the sauce for it is great--sweet with a little kick to it--definitely more complex than what you usually get in America. I came in by myself (like a loser) and awkwardly sputtered that I didn't speak Spanish. Luckily, they had a very nice lady who spoke great English with a lovely British accent, who walked me through the menu. Definitely worth hitting up--everything is super cheap!

Before being introduced to this place, I had walked past it a million times without even noticing it. I always thought it was just a shop and didn't realise there was a small bar tucked away inside. What a joy to finally discover this hidden jewel! Now that I know what's inside, I come here to keep a Spanish tradition alive known as "La Hora del Vermut" (Vermouth Time). It takes place just before lunch and serves to whet your appetite before lunch, basically an aperitif! It may be known as Vermouth Time but you can drink whatever you like: beer, wine, soft drink etc. However, in this bar it is traditional to take advantage of their homemade vermouth (vermut casero) that goes for 1€ a glass. It goes down extremely well and you can't help going for multiple rounds! Also, apart from getting rather inebriated on premises you can also take some back with you. The traditional method is to come loaded with an empty bottle to be filled up but if you don't have one, they can provide you with one instead. It's a joy to see places that still maintain these old traditions; I remember back in the days being sent to our local bodega to get wine bottles topped up even before I was of legal age to drink alcohol... If you want to feel like a proper local, cross the river from the main part of town and venture into this neighbourhood with its own distinctive vibe and help us maintain these traditions well and truly alive and vibrant!
