So I called San Joaquin Roofing to come do a repair and agreed to pay $135/man hour "port to port" plus materials. Two men were here for one hour, smeared some black gunk on the roof, couldn't tell me how much it would be, and then they sent me a $930 bill. I had to about turn into a Karen for an itemized list of costs, because I couldn't figure out how 1 hour of labor from 2 people came out to that. They are charging me for 5.88 "man hours." .88 hours for an operations manager to stop by and check on his guys, and who I do not believe stopped by because I checked my cameras. 1.32 hours for "preparing to come" and "clean up" after leaving. They were sure prepared, showing up without a flash light or step stool that I had to provide. 1.32 hours for driving to and from my house, 15 minutes from their location. So in total, about 4 "man hours" that occurred off site from my house. I've been explaining that they did not explain many of the fees nor include them in the pricing agreement, and they told me they'll send it to collections then. They don't care at all. They seem to think they can just add whatever whoever they want to their "hours" without any notice or explanation. read more

They showed up on time, worked hard, cleaned up, and completed the projects quickly and as scheduled. We appreciated the prompt communication we received while ensuring my Spanish speaking parents understood the process. Their website says they are faith based and we can see the difference in the quality and professionalism in their work. They also contracted a swamp cooler installer and they both coincided their schedules and executed this project very efficiently. I asked for TWO quotes... One small job, one big job. Two different properties... I figured they'd want my business. It's been well over a month. I've called for an update to the quote several times. Today I decided to give them one last chance and called to see if they put those quotes together... THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A RECORD OF MY REQUEST! I had San Joaquin come out and give me s bid on a general tune up. Replacing broken tiles, about twenty (not chipped corners), fix slid tiles, seal and paint all vents and reopen the valleys. The estimator was pleasant and after walking the roof he went back to the office to work on an estimate. A couple of days later they called with an estimate of $1950. Since I had checked up on their and other reviews here I decided to go with them. I was told, when I signed the contact at their office, it would be a week or possibly two before they could get to it (depending on the weather). After two weeks and no contact I called and was told I was on the list and there was two ahead of me. After a month I went into their office and was told there were three ahead of me. I told the young lady I had been told two weeks earlier there were only two at that time. A couple of days later I got a call that they would out later that week and would would we be there. On the day two men arrived in two trucks. One was a foreman who took the sole worker up on the roof and explained what to do and left after leaving the salvaged times they had obtained. It seemed that the tile for my roof was no longer made and they had to get salvaged tiles. The work er was there no longer than 4 hours and told me he was done (there was a little communication difficulty due to language). I was surprised as the foreman said he had to get more tiles as there were more broken than they figured (I had never seen him return with more) and nothing had been done to the valleys). The next day no one came back. but I did receive a bill in the mail that evening. I went into the office the next morning to discuss the situation. I was told they had gotten the worker more tiles and he had finished the job. I explained I thought he had said they needed more tiles, nothing was done on the valleys and he only worked four hours. The owner came in a little up tight and said that the estimate was only allowing four hours. The estimator said he would come out and check. This time he said he was I wrong that the valleys were probably never open or if so it was improperly done and should be left as it it is. He said all the tiles had been replaced, but the sealing and paint were not complete (I took him at his word as at 75 I don't do much on the roof). He had the guy come out for a bout 30 minutes finished and the estimate collected the check (no reduction for nothing done with the valleys). So with all the time it took to come out and do the work, not getting the work in the estimate, the owners attitude and saying $1950 was only four hours worth of work, plus what ever the number of tiles they actually replaced I would not do business with them again, nor would I recommend them. read more

Replaced plywood on patio with usb board after asking specifically that we wanted plywood. Since I signed the contract that said usb board (no box on contract for plywood) I wasn't going to complain but I just saw the end board of the fascia they replaced. The didn't replace the end, just left the old splintered piece there. I can't replace it now because the usb boards are nailed to it, and the roof is all covered with hop mop roof and metal edging. I would not even bother giving them 1 star, but Yelp forced me to click the button before I could post. I want to let everyone know about them before you decide to go with them for your roofing concerns. Absolutely horrible customer service and truly do not care about their customers at all. I would never call them back nor refer them to a friend or a family member. They came last year on April 30, 2018 to fix several spots on our roof that were causing leaks. We paid them their high quote and figured that the leaks were behind us. Since the rain recently hit again, the same spots were leaking barely over a year later. Again, today, we called out one of their estimators and they wanted more money from us to fix the same warranty problem. They claimed we were over their year warranty just by a month, and they will not even offer us a discount to fix the same problem that they should have fixed in the first place. They are a company that once they have your money, they run and take it without even caring about doing the right thing. My husband called the estimator two times today and all he was told back is that, "You are out of your warranty." I am very disappointed in their customer service and lack of care to do what is right! All I want as a good paying customer, is for the problem to be fixed and for the company to do what is right if they didn't fix it in the first place. I don't really feel that I am asking too much. I feel like if I turned it on them, would they want their own home to have a roof problem where they paid good money to get it fixed, and all the company did was say, "nope, we don't care, too bad for you!?" read more

I needed a two year roof certification to complete the sell of my home. I called San Joaquin Roofing and they sent an inspector out on 10/8. I agreed to the needed repairs to my roof which mainly consisted of re-roofing the small patio on the back of my home. I was told that they would be at my home the next week to make the needed repairs, but would not confirm a day to complete the work. After calling the office the next week to see when they would be out, someone called me back on Wednesday and said they will be out the following week! Again the following week, now week two, I called again to see what day they would be out to make the repairs, and yet again they would not confirm a day. Instead the office had one of the roofers call me back and he said we HOPE to get to you by Thursday. This did not set well with me as my escrow was scheduled to close soon and if they had been honest with me in the first place and said they were to busy and couldn't get to me for two weeks I would've scheduled another company to do the work. So after complaining and reminding them of how many times they had assured me over the last two weeks that they'd be out to make the repairs, he promised to be out to do the work by Thursday. Luckily, they had a 'cancelation' on Tuesday and came out, did the work, and left. Now let me show you what, two guys, four hours of work, materials for a small patio, and 3,800$ will get ya. A MIXED MATCHED ROOF! I'm sure if they looked hard enough they could've found roofing material CLOSE in color to the existing roof. After all... I did. But they couldn't use the roofing material I already had! read more

For starters, they started working on our roof on the 15th of this month and they STILL AREN'T DONE. they knocked out the power to the back half of my house and when we called them to let them know they freaked out on us and had to send over 2 electricians to fix it. After that only ONE freaking man worked on the roof. They haven't been back in a couple days but the inspector said our roof IS NOT FREAKING DONE. he also said they need to clean off their debris that they left up there. Including a box of nails, their fucking LUNCH!, trash, and tree branches that they straight up ripped away from the tree. This place is the worst business my family and I EVER dealt with! I still have the paper from YESTERDAY saying our roof isn't finished. And if you're going to have someone work on a roof, please make sure they can communicate with us. We told them we aren't bilingual and yet they still only sent someone out that speaks only Spanish. Had to ask a neighbor to translate for us. I will NEVER recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

I was disappointed, given word of mouth fix it things that was going to do. work order was written up without any of the things we talked about on the contract. I made the mistake of saying yes to the contract thinking it was an outline it was not. I paid over a thousand dollars for cleaning the two valleys sealing the vent pipes plus blowing the rain gutters which I cleaned last month, cleaned under one of the roof tiles. The problem with my roof is the water runs under the tiles on the roof. I was at fault for signing the contract thinking it was just an outline. Be careful, be smarter than I was. read more

We used San Joaquin to re-roof our concrete tile roof in preparation for installation of solar panels. They took off our existing tile, sheathed our roof (there was no prior sheathing done when house was built) and installed new concrete tile. Their bid was very competitive, and Matt and Travis were great work with. They were very responsive, and took good care of us. Crew was professional,friendly, and clean. Our roof turned out beautifully and we are very happy with the results. We had also used them in the past to widen the valleys on our old roof due to roof leaks and they did a great job then. Ended up in court with his bonding company and customers that needed to be compensated. Lost his license. A license does not always equate to good work. Do your homework. Just had our roof completed with San Joaquin. Travis was an excellent salesman, and a big contributor to the three stars I'm giving. Once the roofing process started the communication was no longer there. Apparently there are different crews each day so it's hard to say which people did what. A crew left my side gate open and my dogs got out. Another day someone failed to cover up vents completely and debris jammed up my heater. Fortunately my uncle is a fixer of all things and was able to save me another bill. One of the crews dropped nails in the bottom of our pool and failed to get them out so now we have little rust stains in the bottom of our nice pool. Lastly the crew that was actually putting the new shingles on left a mess all over the driveway and walkways every day until they were completely finished. At that time everything was cleaned up. Our roof looks wonderful now that all is complete but the little issues along the way make me NOT recommend this company. However, if these are small matters to you San Joaquin's pricing beat out several other companies we had gotten quotes from and the work was finished in a total of 8 or 9 days. read more

I contacted San Joaquin Roofing thinking they must be doing a great job if they have been in business for 62 years, like it shows on their website. After a little research I found out the company is under new owner. So new owner bought all the past good reviews. I spoke to one of their sales guys named Travis and I asked him for a estimate to replace my roof. I told him to give me price with replacing all wood no funny business. I said I don't want you to come out with extra stuff midway through the job. So when Travis came back with an estimate of $10,000 compared to $8,000 and $7,000 from other companies. I thought it was a little high but with all the reviews and pictures on their website showing them replacing all wood on roofs I thought, it's going to be worth every dollar. To my surprise when they started the job they were trying to replace the least amount of wood and said peeling facia and missing facia was not part of the cost and if I wanted facia to be replaced it was an extra cost of 2 guys for 2 days and cost of all wood. Their response was, "you didn't say you wanted the facia replaced". I'm not the roofing company and I thought that it was common sense and part of their job since it had dry rot and peeling paint and missing facia in some areas. Plus, I did tell them to quote replacing ALL damaged wood. How more specific should I have been? Travis later said it's not in the contract so we didn't include that in your estimate but we can do it but it's extra!! I will never use or recommend this company even to my worst enemy. I will be surprised if they last another 5 years in business doing this to people. In any business, recommendations are the name of the game!! EXPENSIVE and SHADY!! read more

With all the heavy rains we have received lately my 18 year old roof was bound to spring a leak this season. To make matters worse I am out of town for work and could not see the leak in person.The large leak in one of bedrooms was found by a loved one checking on the house for me. I asked several friends for recommendations on a company that could fix this problem quickly and one company was recommended consistently (San Joaquin Roofing). I called them and was told that they were very busy due to all the service calls in the Bakersfield area today. The friendly person who took my call could hear the desperation in my voice. She put me on a brief hold and the owner of the company (Matt) picked up the phone.I explained my situation and how desperate I was to get this fixed. That's when he took down my address and told me he was on his way over personally to diagnose this for me. He arrived within 30 minutes with a small crew of very professional employees. It did not take long for them to find the hole and fix the leak that had now soaked a good part of the bedroom.I could not be happier with the way that this was handled in such a professional way. I would not recommend this company. I called for 4 days to try to speak with an estimator to clean the valleys and place a piece of $20 sheet metal over my dryer vent on my roof. After four days I finally spoke with an estimator. This was a very small job but needed to be repaired on my roof. This company never told me when they were going to come out and just showed up to look at the roof. They repeatedly told me that they would call me back and never did. I had to continually reach out to the office and they just kept leaving messages for someone to call me back. The end result for a job that should only cost $100-$150 I was quoted $1750 for a 30 min job. The company representative stated that the last job they were on a clay tile roof they had to replace a lot of tile due to them breaking them. A bit of advice for the company- You might need to hire new roofers that know how to walk on tile roofs. I would not recommend this company to anyone based on not able to call potential customers back, over pricing, and not able to walk on tile. A company that treats small jobs like this does not get referrals for family and friends that still have wood shake roofs. $100 job could turn into a $30,000 re-roofing job but apparently this company doesn't think that way. If your roof was just recently done by this company don't expect to have little repairs done when needed. read more
