Established in 1953, the Beachcomber in is quintessential California bungalow motor hotel. It's unique placement on a San Clemente bluff, with panoramic views of the pier and coast are nothing short of stunning. The rooms have full kitchens, king beds, sofa beds and patios with Adirondack chairs, in case being inside, staring through an enormous picture window just doesn't cut it. The staff obviously knows what a special property this is and there is great pride in the presentation and up keep of the grounds. Friendly, welcoming faces morning, noon and night. Because this is a vintage property, maintaining its original build and charm, it does not conform to modern accessibility requirements. Some may find the rooms small compared to modern, chain hotels, but I found everything cozy, comfortable and - dare I say - sumptuous! Given the hospitality of the staff, I'm sure they would do all they could to accommodate any guest. In addition to the amazing evening sunset views of the Pacific, a plus for me, was the Amtrak Surfliner passing through, down below the bluff. Paul Simon may sing, 'Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance', but I love the sound of a train close by! I find it very soothing and romantic. After the sun has set, it's time to gather around the large fire pit for easy conversations with fellow guests, maybe while you wait for your steaks to grill on one of their guest use BBQs. A lovely, relaxing way to ease into the night. We forced ourselves to leave the property and stretch our legs, walk the pier and roam the shops of nearby Avenida Victoria. But for REAL shopping in San Clemente, we took advantage of the free hop on/hop off trolley that runs seasonally and weekends(see separate review) that picks up just below the Beachcomber, at the San Clemente train stop. Weleft our car parked in our allotted parking space (1 parking space for those staying in Villas #1-12). The views are simply unparalleled -- nearly panoramic and absolutely stunning. The accommodations are comfortable and clean, exactly what you need for a great beach trip. Room 5A is a gem -- no elevator or modern extras, but the breathtaking views more than make up for it. It's an older property and the exterior shows it, but that's part of its charm. For a classic, relaxed beach getaway, the location and scenery are simply unbeatable. We'll always request this room.

It was last minute, two adults and four kids in tow, we prayed that they had vacancy for us. The owner was so accommodating and sympathetic, she gave us a truly fantastic hotel room for a great price. I am so grateful that we had a place for refuge while our county raged with a Santa Ana fueled fire. The hotel itself is family owned with Spanish styling. The interiors of the hotel rooms are clearly cared for, renovated and clean. The hotel sits across from the San Clemente Pier, so you can listen to the song of crashing waves all day and night. It tightly fit all 6 of us, but then again, we would've been just as cramped, if not, more, in any other hotel room. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and definitely would come here again, in a heartbeat. A sincere thank you to this hotel for housing my family while our home is under mandatory evacuation.

Everything about this place is wonderful. It was just as affordable as the Hampton Inn we stayed at right before, but ten times nicer. They even called us to let us know that their rates dropped from when we initially booked, so we saved money without having to do any of the leg work. You simply cannot be the location of this resort. You can walk to the downtown or the beach. It's also a very quiet resort - you immediately feel relaxed here. We have also always been super pleased with the welcoming staff. This is a repeat booking for us whenever we come to San Clemente.

The time I was there was good housekeeping was attentive when I came to the needs of the room. The balcony rooms will always have the best views if that's your goal. I went in the winter but they do offer beach equipment if needed and towels which is always great. Plus the sauna and jacuzzi are always great to enjoy.

My family booked 4 rooms, and we also had friends and relatives who booked approximately 10 additional rooms at the hotel for our wedding. With so many of our guests staying here, we were hoping for a smooth and comfortable experience. Unfortunately, we experienced several issues throughout our stay. Upon check-in, the receptionist informed me that the hotel had overbooked the King rooms and that my husband and I would need to stay in a Double room with our parents. They offered 5,000 points and complimentary parking as compensation. I explained that I was the bride and that it was very unusual and disappointing to be told that my husband and I would have to sleep in separate beds on our wedding night. Thankfully, after discussing the situation further, they were eventually able to provide a King room for my husband and me, although our parents were still affected by the room change. Our first night was fine, but on the night of our wedding, we encountered another issue. We were unable to access our room even after my husband had been given a new key card. I had to go back downstairs and request another key card. When I finally entered the room, I noticed a large puddle of water leaking from the air conditioner, which was a safety concern because I almost slipped. I had to request several towels to clean up the water and prevent anyone from getting hurt, especially since it was our wedding night. We had also requested a late checkout, which the hotel graciously granted. During checkout, I requested the folios for our rooms and noticed several charges that appeared incorrect. One example was, we were charged for complimentary bottled water. I also noticed that our King room had suddenly been charged at a Double room rate, even though the room change was caused by the hotel's overbooking and was not something we requested. I brought this to Haley's attention, and she helped adjust the charges. This made me realize that if I had not carefully reviewed our folio, we could have ended up paying additional charges for issues that were outside of our control. I strongly recommend that guests carefully review their bills before checking out. Unfortunately, we also heard about cleanliness concerns from some of our wedding guests. One of our friends staying in Room 417 told us that when they checked in, the room was not completely clean and there was still a used tampon in the trash bin. This is particularly concerning from a housekeeping and sanitation standpoint. The main reason I am still giving 3 stars rather than a lower rating is because Haley from the sales team was wonderful throughout our booking process. She was very kind, responsive, apologetic, and helpful whenever we brought our concerns to her attention. I truly appreciate her effort and professionalism. Despite these issues, my family and friends still made the most of our stay and enjoyed celebrating our wedding together. However, I believe the hotel has several areas that need improvement, particularly with **room inventory management

The worst of it is the constant noise from the heavy metal chairs and tables being scraped and moved on the tile floor in the bar above until 11:00pm nightly.
