We had the BEST weekend at Nomads Hotel in San Clemente! We stayed in the Ohana Room, and it was the cutest little room ever. Zero complaints -- everything was perfect! They even have a Cantina right above the hotel, and the food was AMAZING! We came into town for my husband's band to play at the Surfrider Foundation birthday bash, and it made for such a fun weekend. We would absolutely stay here again! This is the noisiest place I've ever stayed at. It's a basement, with window at alley level, built under a bar & restaurant. Each room is unique in design. Room 7, "the boat room" is built like a closet afterthought. A comfortable double bed fills the room. A twin bed is hidden in the cubby under a stairwell. The toilet and mini sink are cloistered in the shower in the corner of the room, with only a partial shower curtain. The worst of it is the constant noise from the heavy metal chairs and tables being scraped and moved on the tile floor in the bar above until 11:00pm nightly. The smell of industrial cleaning fluid permeates the room and hallway. The parking is challenging at best. Terrible stay for my family and I, walked into a room that smelled like it had been hot boxed. We opened the screen door and turned on the noisy air. We left and went out and hoped that it would be better. It took awhile but you could still smell it, then trying to go to sleep with the noisy air was an adventure. Not to mention the thin floor so you could hear everything going on upstairs. They were nice enough to leave a jar with two sets of earplugs. Nice location we made the best of our one night stay but wouldn't recommend this place. read more

As soon as I discovered this I confronted the owner and he just said it was a ventilator, had the police come and they said it was some type of camera that had been turned off , the blue light was not lite anymore. So they must of turned it off. I packed my things and left immediately! I would never go back there nor recommend this place to anyone. My room was large and well decorated and you can tell that whoever decorated these rooms did it with love like good cooking and attention to detail. The pricing is awesome for what you're getting . i'm not one to write reviews but our experience was so awful at this 'hotel,' that i feel compelled. to call this place a hotel is dubious. there was no one to help, billing themselves as fully automated, convenient for them not so much for the customer. there was loud noise late into the night being under a bar, the bed was very uncomfortable and had only a sheet, no extra blankets to be found anywhere. the shades didn't keep the light or the noise from the street out. we knew we were in trouble when we saw the earplugs on the bedside table. we abandoned our next two paid nights because we didn't sleep a wink. we were endlessly looped back to the bot olivia when we did try to get someone to talk to us. needless to say, they refused to return our money. read more

Loved our stay here over the Memorial Day weekend this year. Given rising Covid cases, I especially loved the contactless check in. Parking is tough so come early. I found a good spot on the street in front of the hotel and then didn't have to move my car all weekend which worked great. Beds are comfy, the hotel is 10 min walking to the beach. Loved the free wine/beer coupons for the nomads canteen upstairs. I was scared it would be loud in the night with the rooftop restaurant but it didn't disturb us at all. There was no warning of this before booking and have to dig deep into the reviews to find any mention of it. Very surprised to see so many positive reviews for the hotel and so few negatives. We have a very early morning tomorrow and the Canteen above is still going loud well past 11pm. Their closing time is 10pm. We feel like we got scammed staying here. read more

Loved our stay here. Our room (Baja) was super rad. Comfy beds, awesome pillows and the softest sheets I've ever slept on. The contactless check in seemed super weird for me but it worked great. They have a rad sound machine in the room and we had it on forest sounds which made me feel like I was in Costa Rica. The restaurant is upstairs and there was some noise which didn't bother us and stopped around 10pm. I note that because other Yelp review's mentioned the noise from upstairs. It wasn't a problem. They do provide you with a sound machine and ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. We loved the decor in the room especially the throw pillows. They are walking distance to Pizza Port, Artifex, Lost Inferno and Momoku No Usagi which we ended up visiting without driving. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others. read more

What a charming stay! I am so glad that we booked this hotel for our short, impromptu vacation to the coast! We didn't mind the lack of front desk attention, as we're low key and not extremely needy. We had a couple small requests that were immediately catered to via text message and help from the staff on-site. We could not believe how fair the rates were, considering the spaciousness of our room. The hotel is meticulously clean and well taken care of. The beach was a short 15 minute walk from our room, and there is also a free trolley that you can catch to explore San Clemente. However, almost everything we needed was within walking distance which was very convenient, considering the parking can be a little tricky. We loved the vibe of the upstairs bar. The service was very quick and attentive. My only constructive criticism is that we would have spent more time/money at the bar if they had vegan food options. We loved it, but would NOT recommend for extremely light sleepers/folks who get startled by noise. The top floor is a bar and a considerable amount of sounds travel downstairs when they are cleaning up after closing. There were ear plugs and a sound machine provided, though. 10/10, will definitely be back! read more

Found this thanks so an app that searches for last-minute hotel deals and I am glad I picked this place. If you are staying in San Clemente this will put you in the center where everything is super close by. Bars, restaurants, and the beach are all a quick walk away. This hotel has a cool theme and my stay had me in the Bali Room. Super cool hostile/studio apartment layout. Three beds all of which were comfortable, nice tv with easy-to-use instructions, a small "kitchen area", and a cool upper-level bathroom and shower. Rooms were clean and well kept, the Bali room featured cool artwork of surf and statues that kept the theme of the room grooving. Check-in is contactless which took a little bit of getting used to. Now that I have done it once, it will be easy to return for a visit. The only downside is that there is a restaurant above which is noisy, but Nomad has you covered with brand new ear plugs. And they give you a voucher for two free drinks at the restaurant upstairs. So head on up and have a few drinks and enjoy the restaurants and bars around you. You may be out so late having fun that you will return to the room and the restaurant is closed. CHEERS!! read more

My husband booked us a night here for our 9th anniversary. We stayed in the Ohana room. It's a cute / funky vibe with a great location. However, it was SO SO loud that I could not sleep. Every 30 seconds someone from the bar upstairs would loudly walk, drop something or otherwise make very loud noises. Not very relaxing on top of a super uncomfortable bed and AC that could not seem to regulate temp of the room. So here I am contemplating driving an hour home on what was a desperately needed night away sans kid. read more

I am amazed by this beautiful little boutique hotel in the heart of San Clemente. My friends and I stayed in the Bali Room for my birthday and it was HUGE! All of my friends were raving about how it felt like an Airbnb for the large size and cool boho decor (especially for the cheap price to sleep 6!). It was extremely clean and smelled nice in the hallways and rooms. The beds were comfy and the AC worked very well. The shower had all of us raving about how it felt like we were in a little grotto! One of the best parts was the location, it is walking distance to all of the shops at Avenida Del Mar, and the bars/restaurants in the central area (5 min walk!). I'd recommend checking in early and snagging a spot at their canteen parking area, as street parking is tough if you have multiple cars. The representatives Joseph and Danielle were so kind and responsive VIA text to anything we needed. I'd highly recommend this spot and I will certainly be back! Booked a room there for a quick surf trip with my adult son. We have traveled across the planet and stayed in every possible type of hotel. This is a hostel not a hotel. Room with two beds was so small you could not be in room and have a duffel bag. Toilet in in the ​shower separated by half a curtain. We took a video and sent it to my daughter who just laughed as two adults stood in a closet with two beds jammed in. Needless to say we lost our money and rented a real hotel room down the street. Perfect spot for a getaway! When I first walked through the entrance to the Nomads hotel I immediately noticed how clean everything looked and smelled. I followed the email instructions for self-checkin and in a few simple steps I was in a beautiful well appointed clean room. I loved the thoughtful touches (prepped Keurig, postcards, free drink coupons) and the decor was amazing. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were very soft. The room is below the restaurant/bar and so we could hear the noise from upstairs but the owners are aware and thoughtfully provided ear plugs and a sound machine. Nomads is centrally located around tons of restaurants and shops and within walking distance to the pier/beach. The only disappointment I had was that my girlfriend and I were only staying for one night because we both loved the no hassle vibe. I am looking forward to returning at a later date so that I can stay longer and maybe even try some surf lessons. read more

Cute little hotel underneath a canteena. Makes you feel like you're on another country. The setup of our room "Mahalo Room" was pretty neat looking. The bedroom area is separated by stairs to go up to the shower and a separate little stairway to go up to the bathroom and vanity area. If you're into eccentric cool vibed hotel, you're at the right place. The location is phenomenal. It's right in the middle of everything. Bars, restaurants and shops are all on walking distance. The cutest coziest unique hotel! My husband and I went on a mini getaway to get out of the house and away from our grown kids/roommates ‍ This hotel was awesome. Check in was so easy and the location was great. So close to shops and restaurants. We walked everywhere. The staff is very helpful and personable. I loved how the hotel was connected to the restaurant upstairs for easy access. 2 drinks included in our stay- bonus! The hotel room was super funky and awesome decor. The bed was so comfortable. My husband has back issues and hotel beds usually kill his back, but this mattress was great and he had no issues in the morning. I happened to leave a shirt at the hotel and live 40 min away. I called the hotel to see if they could charge my card postage and mail it to me. This morning I opened my front door to find a bag with my shirt and a NOMADS hat on my porch! What the heck! Someone took the time to drive up to deliver my shirt and gave me a bonus hat to boot! I am floored. What a fantastic company/staff/hotel. We will definitely be coming back!!! read more

Oddly I'll start with the sheets smelling really good, sleep was amazing, and pillows were super soft and comfy. The room had a fridge and baby kitchenette. The shower worked really well, and the soap and shampoo were really silky smooth. I would stay there again! This hotel is cute, kitschy, and clean. It is, however, *incredibly noisy*as it's downstairs from a restaurant/bar, where they seem to be moving heavy furniture overhead *all day long and until @ 11 p.m.* So to work or sleep, earplugs/noise canceling headphone *are essential.* There is a "white noise" machine in the room, but be sure to bring good earplugs! The touch-less check-in and check-out were no big deal (I thought) and the location is nice. So why did I give just a single star? They charged me for an extra night -- beyond my reservation/stay. They texted me 24 hours *after I'd checked out -- per the reservation -- to remind me to check out*, and when I brought this error to their attention and then sent them the email confirmation of my reservation and what I was supposed to be charged, and asked them to correct the error, they ghosted me! Perhaps communication is a problem when it's all touch-less/via text and email? On the other hand, after I sent them all the correct information, the only proper response would have been an *immediate refund for the erroneous extra-day's charge and an apology. Instead, I got no response and had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. It's not like we had a verbal agreement, it was all in an email from Expedia... Left me with a bad taste, not to mention the time wasted sending emails, working with my credit card company, etc. read more

Yes the hotel is cute. BUT, the NOISE is unbearable from the Cantina above!!! It goes on well into the small hours as they clean up and scrape everything over the floor. The bowl of ear plugs and sound machine by the bed were the first warning signs of what we were in for, but not sufficient to stop the din!! We were on a surf trip so needed our sleep! This is a really great hotel. I love the decor of the rooms. Very clean. Steps up to the bathroom very different. Comfortable beds. Nice Keurig coffee with Half and half for coffee with raw sugar. Soap dispenser hard to use, but nice walk in shower. A/C worked great. Sunset room very nice. History of Surfing book on shelf. Ear plugs and relaxing sleep machine of ocean sounds next to bed. No phone in room. Room was under the Canteen, but we didn't mind. Not that loud. Very friendly staff. Next time, we plan to stay and take surf lessons. Parking was a little stressful for us. We did not know there was a trolley. Beach less than a mile. We walked around town. Beach Books right across alley. Pizza Port across the street good for kids. What a charming hotel! It's absolutely adorable with so much character. I love the California surf theme. It's extremely clean with great complimentary bath products, a filtered water machine in the hall and our own coffee maker. We had our own private balcony and the bed and bedding is extremely comfortable and soft. The lovely front desk associate Ashley was extremely friendly and was kind to offer us complimentary drinks at the cantina above the hotel. There is noise from the cantina until late at night. We were watching movies so we didn't hear it too much and we were out until late, but it's definitely on the noisy side! It's surrounded by beautiful shops and restaurants and very close to the beach! They also offer a surf camp with surf lessons which I will definitely bring my kids to enjoy next time! Per the previous review, it is true that the restaurant noise from above can be problematic if you plan to turn in early. The floors are hardwood and it seems there is little that can be done about it outside of the earplugs... OR...you can just go upstairs and spend some time getting to know the friendly locals who frequent the bar/restaurant. It's a very pleasant little place. The check-in is quirky too. The front door requires a code to enter and there's no receptionist. I booked online and didn't read the email confirmation which instructs you to visit the restaurant (which is down an alleyway on the other side of the structure) for check-in, entry codes, etc. My bad, but as it's so different from other hotel experiences, it's not intuitively apparent. The real value of Nomads is the rooms. We stayed in the Bali and it was immediately apparent that they went to great lengths to create an exceptional ambiance. Charm to the extreme. It pained us to leave in the morning, wishing we could extend for a few more days. The place seems obviously founded by locals with a love for surf and the California lifestyle. It's classy and tastefully decorated in this expression. If you're here from out of state, you'll love the charm of it. In the balance, it's a great find and a nice value. Just wait until midnight to sleep or wear the earplugs. read more

Absolutely fantastic and totally awesome!! I love this hotel and love the staff, owners, and managment. Here is why I love this place. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful it literally looks like a Beautiful art gallery. The rooms are so beautiful I was like wow. It didn't even feel like a hotel. The rooms each have different painted colorful walls with beautiful art work, and with different beautiful colorful walls. Each room does not look the same. They all have a different theme. And the furniture and bathrooms are beautiful. And the floors and everything is beautiful. This makes you feel at home and like a room in a home. I remember staying here in 2020. This was my first time in the San Clemente area. I had so much fun when I was staying here and I also want to mention the owners, and the management who I took the time to speak with and meet are absolutely amazing they are so genuine, awesome, really nice, respectable, and extremely professional people. And super laid back and great to work with. I remember I did not want to leave this hotel how much fun I had Haha. And the prices are actually very reasonable. What I also love about this hotel is they have a really awesome bar, and restaurant upstairs so basically you can walk upstairs from your room and have drinks and food they were all great. The drinks from the bar were some of the best drinks I've had. They are actually known For their drinks it was so cool. I really loved staying here and I actually wish I came back more often haha. I just wanted to show the love and respect to the management and the owners with this review if you have not had an experience with this hotel I highly recommend it. And you definitely should, because this isn't like any other hotels that you're used to staying in I've stayed in different hotels all over different states and even in different countries when I traveled over the years and but I have to say this was one of the most unique ones that I stayed in it just was different and really interesting then other hotels that I've stayed in in the past. I also want to say what I love also is this hotel is next to so many restaurants, bars, cafés that is walking distance. Its just a great experience and it's not a far drive from the beach and there's also parking for the hotel. Thank you so much for the absolutely amazing experience that I had here. When I stayed here at the time I had something really stressful that happened to me and I truly am thankful for this hotel because they absolutely made my life at the time when I was dealing with something very difficult.
