She explained all the hotel's amenities. In addition to the room charge, a $40 resort fee got us: 1. On-site parking; 2. Welcome sangrias; 3. Chocolate chip cookies each night; 4. A European styled breakfast each morning from 7am to 10am; 5. Wi-fi; 6. Beach chairs and umbrellas. Parking in Laguna Beach is a premium, so parking at the resort was great. The city of Laguna offers a free shuttle with a bus stop almost in front of the hotel. So we parked our car and took the shuttle all over town. The property is a well maintained, quant renovated 26 room Italian style resort. It's clean, charming, and has lots of character. It felt nice being at a small property and not at a large commercial hotel. We felt like we were back in Italy on vacation again! Just walking past the front of the hotel, you would not know that there is a luxury resort inside. They have a heated swimming pool (83 degrees), a sauna, and a secluded sun bathing lounge area and several other amenities. We opted for the heated wellness treatment which is a jacuzzi hot tub for two with mineral water. But they also offer single and couples messages and other message therapies. They have a quant internal courtyard for dining as well. We enjoyed a great European breakfast each day which was well prepared, fresh, healthy, and served by great hostesses. We especially liked the frittatas, fresh squeezed orange juice, hot coffee, and iced cold lemon water. The property is a historic landmark, so it doesn't offer handicap accessibility. So if you or someone in your group is in a wheel chair or uses a walker then this property won't work for you. Overall we really enjoyed staying here and would definitely go back again.

The service was excellent and can see that staff takes great care and attention to making sure everything is taken care of. We very much appreciated all the amenities this inn had to offer such as the welcome drink, evening cookies (delicious!), sauna, sunblock at the pool, towels, lovely breakfast.. all complimentary (breakfast with resort fee). We also appreciated the 10% military discount. We stayed in room 23 which was a standard queen bed with garden view and liked that spot because it felt central, private, and quiet. The room is on the smaller side but it was fine. It does not have a fridge but they provide an ice bucket. We ended up putting our bottled waters on top of the AC box and that kept it cool. Being that the inn is beautifully historic, there weren't many outlets inside the room. The bath robes were very plush. Both lamp shade knobs didn't seem to turn properly but we made it work somehow. Otherwise, we felt well taken care of throughout our stay and so glad we came. Aside from the inn, there is a walk to get to Victoria Beach. We walked south along Coast Highway to Victoria Place and found the underpass from there. We also took the free trolley outside of the hotel to get around town. It could be quite a wait for the trolley as we waited 30 mins. There is a QR code on the sign to track the trolley locations.

Cole initially helped us check in and even upgraded our stay to a presidential suite available! Honestly the most epic view and suite we could have ever booked! Thank you so much Cole! If the property was any closer to the water we would be in the water lol. So beautiful. I think this is going to end up being a staple getaway spot for us. We went to their restaurant for drinks and brunch the next day (cocktails, service, and food was amazing) , we booked a couples massage which was such a relaxing experience (both massage therapists were so kind and skilled), and we even laid by the pool which was also nice and relaxing. 5 stars in every category. If I could rate higher I would. Customer service from every staff member we spoke to was above and beyond. My husband was trying to surprise me with champagne and flowers and said nobody returned his voicemail and he tried calling back several times after :( Our travel agent also said that it was hard getting a hold of you guys for booking as well but it eventually got solved. However, on-site staff is very accommodating. I particularly wanted to give Ha a shoutout for a complex booking situation that she handled with great ease and superb customer service. When I learned that she was still in training, I was so surprised since she handled it like a pro with her conflict resolution skills. She was so warm and friendly -- I felt like I was talking to a long-time friend. Management, please give Ha a raise if you are reading this. We were initially going to write this place off since both my husband and agent were having a hard time getting in touch with the front desk but our experience with Ha really changed my perception afterwards. The hotel lends out umbrellas, beach chairs, and towels if you want to go walk the 10 minutes to the beach. There are loads of restaurants and boutiques within walking distance too. However it's not an economy hotel. It's directly on the beach and I expected to pay a premium rate because of that. A welcome note and fruit were left in the room upon arrival. The staff were great, Sam checked us in and he was very sweet. There was another young man with long hair that was also very kind (I didn't get his name, he gave great direction on some local shopping). However, I think there needs to be more responsibility placed on the adults accompanying children, along with more consistent reminders from staff when necessary. The posted rules specifically prohibit ball throwing, diving, horseplay, yelling and screaming, and state that children under 14 should not be left unattended. Unfortunately, during our visit, nearly all of these rules were being disregarded. There were children throwing things, fighting, using foul language, and engaging in loud horseplay. At one point, drinks were even being spilled into the jacuzzi. It ultimately made the pool area feel more like a chaotic family pool than the peaceful, upscale environment the ranch is otherwise known for. Kids will be kids, and I certainly don't fault children for being energetic. My concern is that the ranch is a tucked-away oasis that feels very intentionally designed for adults and relaxation. The pool rules are there for a reason, and I think more consistent enforcement, and perhaps clearer reminders to parents, would go a long way toward preserving that atmosphere for everyone. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and the staff, property, and sustainability experience were exceptional. What is provided? A sad collection of cheap, warped plastic utensils. To top it off, the sink is partially blocked, there is some black mold on the ceiling, and there's peeling paint on the walls. The remote for the sound system doesn't work, and the rugs are filthy. The hose on the deck by the beach to clean off your feat has 2 inches of sand on it so you come out with dirtier feet than when you walked in. It's shocking to encounter this level of neglect at this premium price point. The saving graces are the truly spectacular view of the beach, and easy beach access during low tide. Beds are comfortable enough. Overall, certainly underwhelming for the price point, but despite not meeting our expectations we enjoyed our stay. With just a little more effort this place could really shine.

She was efficient but less than welcoming during the check-in process. Unfortunately, I had to interact with this woman two more times during my stay and each interaction was equally unpleasant. My goal in staying at The Tides was to destress but she made me feel like "Bad Dog". Soon after checking in, I had to return to the Office to ask for assistance with accessing the WiFi and a day later, I had to ask for assistance with accessing the pool. I assumed that I needed to use my hotel key to open the gate to the pool. The Office woman made me feel like a fool when she rolled her eyes and said in a tone that I interpreted as exasperated, "There's a latch at the upper top corner of the gate." She was right. There was a latch but it was painted the same color as the gate and I didn't notice it. I only noticed the key hole. My bad. As I floated in the pool, I said to myself, "You are Bad Dog." Someone needs to explain to this Office woman that without these pesky visitors, her business will have no customers and she will have no job.
