Never thought I'd say this, but... I actually enjoyed my root canal. I walked in with "someone please knock me out with a frying pan" level pain, and walked out an hour later feeling absolutely nothing. The dentist and her team were beyond amazing--kind, knowledgeable, and even saved me money by suggesting options other offices never mentioned. On top of that, they gave me post-care instructions and PT exercises for my jaw tension (apparently clenching hard enough to crack a tooth isn't a hobby?). Normally I get major anxiety about dentists, but here I felt totally relaxed and cared for. If I ever need another root canal, I'll actually be looking forward to it... which is a sentence I never thought I'd write. read more

Best root canal experience ever!! I have never met anyone that had a larger fear of dentistry than me and after my experience, I kinda wanted to do another one. Her office came highly recommended and they exceeded my expectations. I was in a lot of pain and Dr. Karen Potter's office was able to get me in quickly. The chair time seemed like a fraction of time. Dr. Karen Potter took time communicating with me before, during, and after the procedure ensuring that I was 100% comfortable every step of the way. She even called me that evening from her personal cell phone, just to check on me. I thought that was super special. The entire experience was completely pain free, including the shots. I literally almost fell asleep three times during the procedure, because I was so relaxed and comfortable. The gentle wave machine has a soothing sound, had me feeling like I was getting a spa treatment. Dr. Karen Potter is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in her field. Also, she has an excellent bed side manner. Her entire staff contributed to this experience being so calm and smooth for me. Olivia (front desk), is really sweet and helped me with all my scheduling needs and notes in my file. Taylor assisted me with X-Rays and scans. She was personable even with our very short interaction and professional. Leah (dental assistant), really helped me feel calm, as well. I was referred to Dr. Potter at San Clemente Endodontics by Shoreline Dental and was able to get an appointment fairly quickly. I had been dealing with sensitivity and cold intolerance in my left front tooth for weeks. Dr. Potter diagnosed it right away as dens in dente (tooth within a tooth), which is super rare, and she was able to schedule me for a root canal the same day. The entire procedure was flawless and completely painless. Dr. Potter and her assistant Leah were incredibly professional and did a fantastic job. I didn't even need pain medication afterward and was able to eat using my front tooth within a few days. Honestly, the root canal was less painful than some fillings I've had from my primary dentist. After two failed attempts at a root canal with my local dentist, I knew I needed an expert, so I called Dr. Potter. I was initially concerned how my insurance would pay the previous dentist for an incomplete procedure. I shared my concerns with Dr. Potter's front desk expert and she helped navigate how we could figure it out together. After my thorough consultation with Dr. Potter, I learned that my dentist almost perforated my tooth after two horrendous experiences that left me in tears and pain. (It should be noted that I have a high pain threshold and he never numbed me sufficiently.) On December 23rd, at the very last minute mind you, I reached out to Karen Potter's office in desperation. I was suffering from an incredible amount of pain from what turned out to be a dead nerve needing a root canal. My first reaction to the diagnosis was one of, "there's no way Doctor Potter and staff are going to perform a root canal 2 days before Christmas at 3:00 in the afternoon with no appointment. Fortunately, I was wrong. Karen Potter agreed to not only do the exam on the spot, she also agreed to perform the root canal that afternoon. The staff (I wish I could remember all of your names! sorry!) did an amazing job of making me feel comfortable while performing all of the prep...it was efficient without a bunch of drama. I have lived through horror stories with my wife and her root canals. I never wanted to experience it for myself, but last week I had the great misfortune of waking up with screaming tooth pain. My dentist referred me to Dr. Karen Potter and her practice. I also had a time issue as I was traveling to my daughter's graduation across the country. Dr. Potter walks you through every step of the way if you want to know what's going on. (Mostly what she is going to do or what you will hear or smell) We are always told that a root canal is the worst thing to happen or experience, but she saved my tooth, and hopefully, for a really long time! I had an ailing tooth that was bothering me for over a two years. After the filling fell out of it, I was extremely discouraged to visit a dentist due to my repeated disappointments with my dentist at the time. Obviously, the condition only got worse and a root canal had to be performed. I went and visited a local endodontist to seek treatment however, after charging me over $200 for additional imaging he elected not to treat the tooth because he told me "the tooth wasn't worth saving." After another disappointing experience my tooth only got worse. I started experiencing inflammation of my sinuses, and tenderness of the face. On a last minute effort, I was referred to Dr. Potter and her team and was had a much different, more pleasant experience. Not only was Dr. Potter able to save my tooth; the entire procedure was quick, easy, and most importantly painless. I had a great root canal and loved every second of it. Dr Potters office got me in after noon for an evaluation, to see whether or not one of my teeth could be saved. I was very pleased with the staff. Dr. Potter and April did an amazing job on my root canal. As usual, I had a bunch of questions about my tooth, what was needed, what was going to happen, is there payment plans. They talked me through what was going to happen during the procedure and what was needed to be done, and have payment plans. The procedure was over quite quickly and 100% smoothly. They checked the care of my tooth periodically through the process. After the procedure and the numbness was gone, I felt amazing and so did my tooth. Dr. Potter herself called me later in the day and checked on how I was feeling. I love knowing she cared how I felt and it's a great feeling to have care. I highly recommend.
