Had a retreat root canal done here after a previous endodontist told me there was no hope for my molar. I know retreated root canals have a smaller sucess rate, but it seemed to have worked for now, a few months later the infection is still healing, which is great! I scheduled two postop follow ups which they didn't charge me a dime for, and considering my dozens of annoying questions, it's really kind of them. I had taken my initial review down, but after receiving a call from this business, I decided to put it back up. My initial review was based not on the service here, but on the billing. I saw Dr. Edelstein a few weeks ago and recently received a bill for $225. My review stated that no upfront costs were discussed with me when I called to make the appointment. A quick x-ray was taken, the doctor saw me for a few minutes, did a quick exam and told me everything was fine and that I didn't need a root canal. After my initial review, someone from the office called me regarding the initial review I left. After the way that conversation went, I decided I was not going to be bullied into not speaking out. I mean, I wasn't threatened or anything like that, but she just seemed very angry, argumentative and confrontational. She never once apologized for not being upfront about the costs or for any misunderstanding. She just blamed me. Also, I'm not sure why a receptionist is reaching out and handling this rather than the doctor or the owner/owners, which seems odd. She called and told me that I was not charged for the x-ray, so what, exactly, was I billed $225 for? She also told me that no upfront costs could be discussed before the appointment because it depends on the insurance and how much they cover. I mean, you wouldn't run the insurance and find out the copay to let the patient know prior to the visit? That's the way most businesses do things. That's just common sense and courtesy. Money is tight for most people these days...especially right before Christmas and I'm sure most people would like to know what's coming out of their pocket and why. I was then told, repeatedly, that you signed it, you signed it, you signed it, meaning the cost estimate that you sign when you come in. It was my understanding that the estimate was in the event of a root canal, which I ended up not needing. I am still waiting on exactly what I was billed $225 for. If the $225 was for a five minute office visit alone without any work done and that's AFTER insurance paid their part? That's crazy. I have no issue paying my bills, but I need to know what I'm paying for before I pay it. ***I do not want this same woman reaching out to me again. If this business is reading this, please just send me an itemized bill stating clearly, in lay terms, what the $225 is for. Thank you. read more

My primary dentist knew that I was in pain but on the side of caution said that a root canal would have been a last resort. Well the tooth pain didn't go away so right before Christmas, I had an appointment to see Dr. Cummings. He looked at my X-rays and checked my back molars for sensitivity. Sure enough, I had a tooth with a dying nerve. He prescribed some antibiotics and Norco for me, saying that I would need that root canal after all. The pills worked to reduce the pain and swelling and I felt better than I had in days. I went in for my appointment and was out an hour and a half later. I paid what my insurance didn't cover after the procedure. His office assistant informed me that I would need a crown appointment with my primary dentist. I guess they only do root canals here. It would have been nice not to have to go back and forth but it was worth it just to not be in pain any longer. read more

This was the second time that I required the services of Pacific Coast Endontics. The idea of a root canal is daunting and the expense is north of $1,500. Double ouch. That said, Dr. Cummings and his staff, literally, make the entire process painless. Dr. Cummings has got to be one of the best in the field. His calm confidence and unwavering process to do the root canal assisted my being totally calm for the 60 minute procedure. He guided me on the steps he took as he took them and his dental assistance knew exactly what he needed. They were in lock step. First let me say the office has all the latest state of the art equipment and a very friendly, courteous staff. I saw Dr. Natalie Eidelstein who went over the procedure and answered all my detailed questions (and I had quite a few!) She continually checked in with me to see if I was doing ok. The surgery took about an hour. I had no pain perhaps a few shivers! I felt comfortable during the entire procedure. I thought Dr. Eidelstein did a great, professional job. I came in for a molar root that had never healed from long ago root canals that other offices did. Wow! Everyone is so nice here! Extremely clean very kind employees and super gentle Dr! Dr Cummings evaluated my tooth which only had 1 bad root out of the three so he chose to go in through the side to treat the tip of the root that was being stubborn and leave the other nicely healed roots alone. The procedure was completely painless and I wish I could of video taped it to watch later (LOL..I guess am just curious!) Afterwards I also didn't really experience much either just mildly aware to be cautious of crunchy food for 4 days. However last night I went to town on the chips watching TV which was just 4 days in. I highly recommend this office to go to, if you have tooth pain. The whole staff was very nice and helpful. The front office was very friendly and greeted me with a smile and helped me to understand the procedure. Both Dr.s and the assistants were amazing and helped me through my fears. If you have to have a root canal I'd highly recommend this office. The Dr took extreme care with me once I shared I had previously had issues with getting numb for root canals, and rather than push me through I was placed on medication for 5 days and brought back for a 2nd visit. Let me tell you this was the best root canal experience I've ever had in regards to pain. Dr was gentle had great chair side manner. The initial numbing experience was like most the only difference is the medication I was given let the Novocain work and I didn't feel anything pain wise the rest of the visit. There is nothing fun about a root canal, especially if it is an emergency root canal. Dr. Cummings and his staff quickly fit me in on a Friday afternoon and took care of my cracked tooth. Dr. Cummings immediately makes you feel comfortable and assures you that he will take care of your situation. The office is full of modern equipment and everything is clean. The staff is friendly and efficient. Billing was explained up front and before I knew it, I was numb from Novocain and the doctor was working on my tooth. Went to my dentist today with some pain. Dr Pham His nurse called Dr Cummings office and they took me right away. When I arrived Nicole at the desk was very helpful with all my paperwork and insurance information. Once inside Laurie, the doctor's assistant made me feel right at home. Laurie took some x-rays and the doctor felt that indeed a root canal was needed. Right then and there!!! I thought I was going in for a consultation. I am astonished at how rude the front desk woman treated me yesterday afternoon. We were asked via text to come in early to take a noon appointment instead of 1:30 pm for my son's root canal. We showed up 10 minutes early, knowing there would be new patient paperwork. I was barely greeted by Nicole with a standoffish attitude and not a bit of friendliness or customer service for that matter. She laid a clipboard with paperwork on the counter and told me to fill it out. As I took a seat in the waiting area a nice man arrived and began an in-depth conversation with Nicole. He was discussing rather personal health issues so out of respect I did not want to interrupt them. I finished the paperwork within five minutes and attempted eye contact with Nicole numerous times. Finally, 25 minutes later I approached the front desk to ensure she was aware we moved our appointment to noon and she simply said she was aware, she was just waiting on my paperwork. I couldn't believe the passive aggressive nature of her response; she knew full well I wasn't sitting there for 25 minutes filling out 1 form and 2 signature pages. She had the audacity to tell me with attitude, "You could have brought it up to me." They took my son back for the initial X-rays and consultation and I had to ask Nicole if anyone was going to talk to me or let me know what was going on with my minor son and she just responded, yes. When it came time to pay our bill, there was no explanation of the bill itself and I had to ask for a copy of everything after paying. I can't believe a business would allow someone like this to be the face of the operation, I would be embarrassed as the owner. But what's interesting is that come to find out Dr. Cummings is out-of-office until end of August as I learned in her conversation. Hmmmm, when the cats away I guess. The rest of the staff seemed very kind and attentive but Nicole does not belong there! I will be letting our dentist who referred us know that he should reconsider referring there moving forward, as not only is Nicole's behavior a reflection on Dr. Cummings and his business, but our referring dentist as well. read more

Terrific, painless experience! Dr. Cummings explained everything as he did it in a calm and soothing voice. I was even given special sunglasses for the bright light above my face to ease any discomfort. This root canal was easier for me than my regular teeth cleaning. His office is spotless and his assistant Ana was gentle and patient. His front staffers Shellye and Lisa were also wonderful and friendly. Straight hustlers! Going in for ANY dental work is like buying a car. I had the pleasure of getting an extra $200 bill mailed to me, because my insurance wouldn't cover certain expenses this office was charging me. After speaking with my insurance, I reached out to the office inquiring about all these extra charges for these "procedures," and medication to take home (which I never received), end of story (I don't like writing long reviews), the office ended up clearing me of having to pay. If this is the last endo left on earth, and you have no other choices but to go here, make sure you have a good understanding of what kind of procedures/medication/ and whatever else they claim to do for you! I went to see a dr. Cummings yesterday for an 3-D x-ray as a first time patient. I signed all the papers given to me by an older blond lady at the front desk. When I came to sign the paperwork that stated the price for services, I asked her if this is what I needed to pay. (It caught me by surprised as no one has informed me of this charge and I have an insurance. I expected to pay something but not everything). She stated, "well, ya, we don't do images for free!" Her attitude was from a different world. No one expected anything for free but there are different ways to say it, especially when I genuinely did not know as this was my first time doing these kind of images. She was incredible rude and aggressive in her tone of voice. (In one of the pictures here on yelp where the dog is, she is the third from the right).I told her that I do not expect free services but I wish I had been informed of the charges prior to the appointment. She rolled her eyes and said, "Oh, well" and then mumbled something incoherently. It was beyond disrespectful so I just left. There are plenty of endodontists in the area with far better services. i spent hours on yelp trying to figure out who to trust and where to go for a root canal because i was so nervous. my primary dentist referred me to dr. cummings. i don't normally do reviews but i have to let others know that dr. cummings and his staff (Nicole) were nothing short of AWESOME! the office was so nice and clean with state of the art technology and i really felt like i was in good hands. i felt NOTHING! it was painless and he explained everything he was doing. i actually thought it was pretty fun.... i know that sounds crazy! i was just so happy. i wished they could put mirrors above so you can watch. i'm not sure why root canals have such a bad rap? if i had the money i would want to get root canals in ALL my teeth! but only but dr. cummings. read more

BEWARE! First of all, I will preface my review by saying that the emergency root canal I received was very good. The issue I have with this office is with the billing. While I was sitting in the chair getting prepped for my root canal, the office manager came in and told me that she verified insurance and I would need to pay $538 now. She asked for my credit card right then and there. Approximately 2 weeks after the procedure, I received the explanation of benefits from my insurance company. I noticed I overpaid by $308. I was happy to find that I would get some money refunded. I set my paperwork aside and waited for the office to send me the refund. Well, 2 months passed by and no refund. So, I called the office and they happened to be closed and I left a message about the refund. I called back the next day and said they got my message and the check had been sent out that day acting like it had been processed before my call. I asked if I could talk to the business manager to verify the refund. I come to find out that they were only going to refund $223, not $308. I asked why and they said that they did a CT Scan that they did not bill the insurance company for because they would not cover it. I don't get it, because there were 2 other services they billed for that were not covered. It sounded very fishy to me. Then she said thank you for reminding them of the refund, confirming it had not been processed before my call. When I got the check, my suspicions were kicked in to high gear when I noticed the statement showed that they wrote off the balance on the account when they received the payment from the insurance company and had no intention of refunding me the overpayment.. After I called them on it, they reposted what they wrote off, posted my refund and then wrote off the remaining balance.. I went to the office to challenge them and the office manager denied it when I claimed off I did not call, they never would have sent the refund. She said they pay a lot of money back to patients. She turned beet red, was stammering and wouldn't look me on the eye. I have no doubt that I would never have seen the refund if I did not call them asking for it. I could tell by her reaction that this is probably their standard business practices. BEWARE! read more

Verify that they get preapproval from the insurance first. Went in and said I was pre approved and then sent me a bill for over $1000. Make sure you verify that the insurance company was actually contacted. Don't want you to have to pay out of pocket like I did. Root canal went well though. read more

First and foremost, I have worked in the dental field for the better part of 18 years. You'd think I wouldn't be a big baby when it came to dentistry. However, this was my very first root canal ever. :-( No one wants to have to deal with a root canal. However, I have referred many patients over to Dr. Cummings and they have all sang his praises. I have to agree. I called on Monday, and Nicole, who was super amazing on the phone was able to get me in for an appointment the very next day! When I got to the office, I was warmly greeted and reassured that I had come to the right place. Then Ana, the assistant, took me back. We took some xrays and they have very cool 3D imaging as well. Gotta love technology! Her chairside manner was very soothing and relaxing. Then Dr. Cummings came in, introduced himself and did a very thorough and efficient exam. It was determined that I did in fact need a root canal. The procedure went well, and I was very happy they offer nitrous as an option. I highly recommend it if you have any anxiety! I will have no problem highly recommending my patients to come over if they need endodontic treatment. I can now speak from experience that Dr. Cummings is awesome. read more

My family dentist referred me to 2 other Endodontics. I called those places a few times to inquire but they didn't have time to see me late in the same evening and the charge from one of them was far too pricey. My boss referred to Dr. Reed Cummings. I called the office and Nicole squeezed me in for a late afternoon appointment that worked perfectly for me. I came in, Nicole and Ana were very polite and pleasant. I only needed to fill out some short forms and Ana called me in within 10 minutes for X-rays and some scan work. Did I mention this office has the latest scan equipment CBCT, Dental cone beam computed tomography which many others do not have it yet. Long story short, Dr. Cummings checked my wounded tooth and explained the procedures (Ana even gave me the blanket when I complained I was cold). Then he started to perform the root canal. After 30 something minutes, the work was done. I felt very much relief and didn't believe Dr. Cummings did such an amazing job without much pain. Of-course I felt a bit discomfort but I was surprised how gently and pain-free performance he provided to his patient. 2 thumbs up for Dr. Cummings and his staff, Ana and Nicole.
