Samurai is a relatively small sushi and habachi restaurant. It has it's own parking lot. My wife and are regulars for lunch and an occasional dinner. We have always been satisfied by both the food and the service. On a scale of 1 to 10 of Japanese resturants I would rate it 9. Much higher than expected for an ethnic eatery in a small riverside town. The food is excellent if you allow enough time for preparation. Like ANY restaurant coming here after a big local event is a gamble. My wife and I have traveled extensivly and have eaten in the best ethnic restaurants at home and abroad. Much of this was business travel so expense was not a factor. While Samurai is not quite in the Michlin 4 star league as far as location and decor goes, the food ranks right up there. Do you like garlic? If you do, this is the place for you. We happen to love it~ the option for garlic noodles instead of rice is refreshing. We had the dinner for two with all the meats you could dream of in the hibachi side of the restaurant. Done to perfection we were stuffed by the time we left. The ginger dressing on the salad was one of the best I have had at a Japanese steakhouse. We did not try the sushi, the soup appetizer was average, flavorful and mild like one expects. Stopped by when the year's first snow was coming down. The young lady at the front desk was picking up phones constantly and attending to two cute kids who really wanted her attention. People where laughing with Hibachi Chefs, three Sushi Chefs were talking to each-other in the corner sushi bar, probably at maximum efficiency due to the sunday/snow night rush, and I saw booths of people look at each-other's food. I got a yellowtail roll and an eel cucumber roll, both melted in my mouth at just about the same rate as the rice and nori did. They let me buy sushi rice, and gave me a nice portion. Takeaway (no pun intended) is that this place has good people working here, so-far-so-good food, and enough hustle to serve Croton on Hudson. read more

This is one of my two favorite Japanese restaurants in the area. Their sushi is high-grade and FRESH. I've yet to have a bad meal there, and I go often. Spring and Tony are the owners and they make me feel like family every time I walk in the door. The atmosphere is soothing and pleasant, but the hibachi area can get a little noisy. However, I've been guilty of having too much fun at the hibachi table, so I overlook that one drawback. read more

I love having a Hibachi steakhouse so conveniently located. A friend and I stopped in for lunch the other day with four kids and the staff was very courteous and friendly. We did have to wait a bit for the check, but I attribute that to it also being the staff's lunch time by the time we were ready to leave and the fact that every other time they checked on us we didn't need anything. The food was delicious. My daughter said she imagined this is what the food in heaven would be and my friend's son talked about how much he loved his the rest of the afternoon! Sushi was so fat it was crazy. Never has a roll filled with so much sushi. I got the spicy maki. For $16 3 huge rolls. So worth it. Only downfall is limited menu vs asago down the road. EDIT #2: I had to take a sick day from work because I couldn't sleep due to stomach pain that lasted throughout the night. So now you get 1 star. Don't eat here, the food is bland and not fresh. EDIT: I dropped another star because my boyfriend complained of nausea and a stomach ache shortly after we left. They serve pineapple pieces with the check. I didn't have any but he had 2, saying that they tasted "chemically." I attributed his stomach issues to this but a couple of hours after eating there, I got a stomach ache too. I tend to eat healthy but I don't usually have a issues eating lesser quality food, so I'm guessing that their food quality is pretty low. ORIGINAL: My boyfriend and I came here after Blaze because the reviews said that they have better quality food than the other local sushi place. We ordered the hibachi chicken and the Phoenix and Crazy rolls to share. The vegetables and noodles in the chicken dish were good but the chicken itself was not good at all. It tasted like it was very low quality and overcooked. The sushi rolls were probably the most bland sushi rolls I've ever eaten. I could not believe how bland they were. The crazy roll was deep fried and both were covered in the chef sauce, which should mean a blast of flavor. I don't like soy sauce, I find it to be way too salty and overpowering for sushi, but for once in my life I had to eat this sushi with soy sauce just to have some flavor. I just enjoyed a very delicious lunch at Samurai Sushi in Ossining, New York. It's located just a few blocks north of the Ossining / Croton on Hudson shopping center and it's on Riverside Avenue. Wow! I have eaten Sushi all over the world and I'm very picky but I will have to say I'm totally impressed with Samurai Sushi! The food is delicious the sushi portions were very generous the prices are good and the staff is extremely friendly. I'm going back real soon! I have attended this Hibachi bar on multiple occasions and have been met with very different consensus about the value of my meal. They provided me with enough food to feed a small army for a reasonable price. Their pitfall comes with my second visit, upon expecting a plate brimming with food delicious food I was sadly underwhelmed by the flavor pallet offered to me by their chef. read more

I LOVE Samurai and cannot WAIT until it opens up again--it caught fire a few weeks back and since then has been closed...:( I used to always pick-up the spicy tuna rolls and miso here--affordable, fresh and fast, great service. This place has good food. The food is cooked well and tasted even better. Staff is very very friendly. Only reason there not 5 stars is when I order take out I have to make sure the order is right. I have gotten the wrong order before. So then I have to trek back to exchange. They were quick to fix my order which was nice and they were very apologetic. Their delivery minimum is $25, which is higher than any place I have ever ordered from in the area, considering I live under 10 minutes from the restaurant, probably closer to 5. I put in an order of 4 rolls that came to $24--I only wanted two but figured getting 4 for $24 would put me close enough to the minimum for delivery. The woman taking my order told me otherwise and asked if I wanted something else. I didn't particularly want to add even more to an order already higher than what I wanted to pay, so I asked her to just add a dollar. She would not and spoke to me rudely when I asked why. The point is, though, that in a small neighborhood (this isn't NYC after all), I think they could give a customer a $1 break on their sky high delivery minimum. I have loved this place for years!!! Unfortunately, tonight we got terrible service. The server dropped us off our check while we were still eating and came back and asked for it 3 times. It is 8:58pm and there are no people waiting for our table on a Saturday night. I am meeting up with my girlfriends and we wanted to stay and drink, but the server was extremely rude and pushed us out. Also, while we were waiting for the rest of our friends to et here our server ignored us and we wanted to start drinking. We wanted to start drinking soon as we sat down. We go here all the time and the food always come out perfect. Their fried rice and sushi are incomparable to other places I've tried. Although some of the staff aren't the best at serving, and you might hear a Prince of Bel-Air theme song in the restaurant's radio, the food makes you forget about all of that and makes you want to go back again. read more

Dissapointed we hade reservations still waited 25 minutes for habachi table. Dirty inside. No friiendly staff. Very poor service. Waited long time b4 anyone took our drink order. Didn't clean the tables good had leftover dishes. Never asked about food allergies- vegetables are cooked on same table/space as meats and fish. Not good for allergies or if you're vegan. Hibachi chef had no personality- no real skill. ventilation not good so be prepared to smell when leaving. They rush you out to reseat. Rude staff bad service mediocre food and dirty bathrooms is what you'll get here. I'd be interested in seeing the condition of the kitchen. I Won't go back. read more

Hands down best sushi in Westchester. One of the few restaurants we can consistently count on as we go 3-4 times a month and have never been let down. Great appetizers; the gyoza is perfect and I can highly recommend the super fresh and light "4-Sea Naruto" appetizer. Favorite rolls are Phoenix, Diamond and New England. Service is hit or miss in terms of friendliness but the orders always come out correctly and timely. Yum! read more

In town this week for business and thought I'd have a hard time finding sushi. Jumped online, found this gem. I sat at the sushi bar itself, traveling alone and this is what I came for anyway. The restaurant is relaxed, dimly lit, but not too dark. they have normal seating as well as Hibachi. Sushi was right in line for pricing I have seen elsewhere.....but for that price WOW! AMAZING quality, fresh, THICK rolls and great tasting. I had to hold myself back from ordering more! :) If you're in the area of Peekskill, this was only 7-miles from my hotel. Enjoy! Host.So you walk into a fountain and the host is usually this Japanese women talking to a delivery guy.They have a bowl with lollipops on the counter.Joe wanted one but couldn't get one.So the delivery guy got him the lollipop he asked for, cotton candy.So the Japanese lady sits you down.There are 2 choices sushi, and hibachi.Overall it is 4 stars. My husband's family lives in Croton and every now and then they order take out from this place and in the past it's been decent. Tonight, however we dined in because we'd purchased an online deal for dine in only. They close at 9:30 on Sundays. We got there at exactly 8:45. It took about 5 minutes for someone to come to the front and greet us and prior to greeting us, the waitress made a clear look at the clock and then said, "you know we close at 9:30 right?". We told her that we were aware and weren't planning on staying too long. When she came to take our order, I took out the certificate I had printed with the deal. She said bluntly, "oh" and looked at the clock again. Then she said she didn't know if we ordered enough and if she could take the voucher. Then she came back and said we needed to add a few more dollars to the meal because we were a dollar short. I told her I wanted a soda with my meal anyway and it was no problem. I ordered a volcano roll and my husband ordered 3 hand rolls. The volcano roll was not really that good in my opinion, but was decent. My husband was very upset to find his hand rolls were all filled and covered in sesame seeds. We usually make sure to ask for no sesame seeds if it's a Philadelphia roll or any other roll with rice on the outside. Another couple walked in at 9:15PM and were greeted with cheerfulness and smiles and a big "Hiiiiii!!!" and were immediately seated. No mention of closing time. We had to wait a while to see our waitress to ask for the bill and it was not the same waitress that originally took our order. We paid cash and didn't need change. I had been in there once before with my mother in law to get a pick up and they were extremely nice to her and cheerful and all smiles and graciousness because they knew her and she had been there before. We definitely felt snubbed and 2nd class. Just because we are young, came in later in the evening and had a deal, they were annoyed and didn't really find us worth it and probably ASSUMED we would give a crappy tip. I was a waitress and bartender for 10 years. When a table came in at 8:45 and we were closing at 9:00, I never said anything to the table, even though I wanted leave. At a restaurant when you are a waitress and a table comes in 5 minutes before the kitchen closes, you have to stay and you never know when you will get out and that's the nature of the business. I worked with a lof of people that pre-assumed a table was going to give them a crappy tip because they were young, black, ordered water, didn't order any alcohol and a variety of other stupid stereotype reasons. The table often met their expectations more often than not because they didn't treat the table well. We often leave 25-30% when we have a good experience, but I am not the kind of person (anymore) that gives a great tip, hoping they treat me nicer the next time and remember me, like they remembered the other table that walked in practically as we were getting ready to leave. read more

The hibachi food is great, but if you aren't in the mood for the show or paying the price for that meal, sitting down for sushi and a side of the addicting hibachi noodles is great. We started with the scallion pancakes, which were delicious. The sushi was superb -- I don't think you could find finer sushi in Manhattan. My husband ordered the chicken tempura. I don't think he enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed my sushi. It seemed a little bland. There was certainly enough of it though -- he couldn't finish it. The acoustics were a bit loud - there seemed to be a lot of children in the hibachi side of the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out, but if you want really good sushi this is the place to go. read more

First time here, I was a bit hestitant ,due to the decor and the unpleasant smell when we entered the restaurant. It smelled very damp and mildew. However, the family that ate next to us convinced us that the food is good. So we stayed. The food was very tasty, especially the noodles and rice. This is my favorite Hibachi restaurant although it also has a sushi bar. You can even order sushi while eating at one of the hibachi tables. Samurai has a nice cozy feel to it and the food is delicious. I much prefer the noodles sauteed in garlic to the bean sprouts served in some other hibachi restaurants. Any of the entrees are delicious although I highly recommend the chicken with scallops. The food in general is very flavorful although my favorite sauce is and will always be the ginger dressing. The chefs are very entertaining and if you enjoy seeing a nice flaming volcano made of onions, this is your place. The price can be a little hard to swallow(as with many hibachi restaurants), but it is well worth what you pay for. read more

After researching a few other sushi spots, my husband and I decided on this one after seeing reviews and sushi options. They seemed to have very interesting rolls as well as appetizers - which we found to be true! Best sushi I've had in a while! My husband, who normally is not a fan of raw fish, LOVED it here. We wanted to try everything. Very tasty scallion pancakes and really gorgeous and delicious rolls. The ambiance and the staff are also great! We'll have to try the hibachi next time.
