I have been coming to this establishment since 2019. I am currently living in Florida and came to celebrate the holidays and couldn't go back south without coming here. My sister and I started with tuna nachos as an appetizer. As an entree, my sister had the Scallop Teriyaki with rice and I had my favorite, Tonkatsu Ramen. Everything was delicious. I ordered spicy maki combination and it was horrible. There was barely any fish in the rolls and mostly bread crumbs which tasted like saw dust. When my wife called the manager she told him he would not refund her and told her to take pictures and bring it back. When I went back to give the sushi he had the nerve to take off money for the price of a full salad when all we got was 4 tiny pieces of lettuce. The managers customer service was unacceptable. I used to eat from this place often, and got many meals for my family. Some of our favorites were the sesame chicken, chicken katsu, fried rice, and vegetable rolls...One day, we ordered and there was a tiny green caterpillar-looking bug on the cucumber roll. When I called to tell them about it, they claimed it wasn't from their restaurant, because they don't have any bugs....as if we had put the bug in there. I showed them pictures and videos of it, got a refund, and have never ordered from here again. I was excited to try this place but tonight when I went to pick up my take out order I was really disappointed. I know it's a pandemic but I just don't know what happened herep mmmm. If something is wrong let your customer know. 7:05 - I order. She says it'll be ready in about a half an hour. Cool, I'm starving. 7:35 - I get there. Lots of people outside. Must mean it's good. I learn after a few minutes you actually get a text when your order is ready. Wow, neat! I return to my car to wait since it's chilly out. *waits patiently* 7:54 - Hm. Been an almost an hour. Lemme call them, I have to be somewhere soon. All the people I saw waiting when I got here are still waiting. Doesn't bode well. I call ask when it'll be ready and she assures me five minutes. I tell her I can't wait much more and she tells me "five minutes!" I ask if she is sure and says it again. 8:05 - I go up to the door again to explain I really have to leave but no one is there. I decide to wait ten more minutes because I'm not a jerk. 8: 17 - I seriously have to leave. I call her to say this and she says it's almost ready. I say I'm so sorry but I have to go and I'm really sorry but I just can't wait. I'm trying so hard to be polite because I'm not the kind of person who wastes food or small businesses money but... I can't wait. She then tells me to hold on and I hear her pick up another phone line to take an order. I hang up. I leave. 8:19 - She calls me back. She tells me the food is ready and I should come get it. I explain I tried to wait and had tried to say I couldn't stay, as it had been twice as long as the pick up time she gave me, but she got upset with me. She told me I should have let her know 20 minutes ago if I was planning to leave... which I did. But she explained it was somehow my fault? Huh? Tell me it's gonna be a while. Explain something happened, apologize, empathize, communicate... anything? I'm not asking for too much here. My one complaint is that we spent $65 dollars worth of sushi and when I asked for some spicy mayo they charged us .50 cents for each spicy mayo. The girl ringing me up gave me some poor excuse why. The process was fast, they immediately confirmed our order via phone & called us when the food was ready (about 30 minutes). The chicken teriyaki bento box was delicious and a filling portion. The salad with ginger dressing was fresh and tasty. The tempura was not greasy and crispy. The gyoza was cooked perfectly and the dipping sauce was on point. My husband got sashimi appetizer which he thought was very good. He ordered a chicken hibachi dinner which was okay/eh & came with salad and soup. I ordered an appetizer (agadashi tofu- very good) , a cup of miso soup and another appetizer as my dinner (mushy veggie gyoza) My tofu appetizer came out with both soups (neither of ours was hot, just room temperature! ) and a salad all at the same time. No problem really. Then sushi app arrived & immediately after our dinners came out. We had two soups, two appetizers, a salad and two dinners on the table at the same time and had barely started eating ! I've been looking for a Sushi restaurant to replace Sugi, the great North Rockland sushi and hibachi restaurant which recently closed. I tried Sakana as it is close to me. The staff is friendly but hovered way too much for my taste. The avocado covered salmon was mushy and covered in a sweet sauce which was not to my liking. I ordered shrimp fried rice only to find it covered in another sweet sauce as well which was off putting. Price was reasonable. The dessert was cheesecake which was still frozen. Also a small family member of the Owner of the restaurant (about 2 years old ) ran about the restaurant, falling and crying through my entire meal. My experience was not a favorable one. This is not at all remotely close to what Sugi offered. I'm still searching......... read more

I really like the sushi here! They have really interesting rolls which were fresh and super delicious! The service was good, but a tad slow. They also never brought out my friend's miso soup. It was one massive cold mound of day old noodles. The spicy tuna roll was cut in half like a burrito rather than a standard roll and they provided 1 less than half filled container of soy sauce for a platter of sushi. Saturday night was the 2nd time we ate there, and I will not rush to return. There are many better Sushi places in Rockland. I ordered from the kitchen Hibachi menu, and I needed to ask the waitress if it was micro-waved as that is how it tasted. The steak and shrimp were warm at best while the noodles were steaming hot. I was told they use a wok in the back to cook the Hibachi orders. My son ordered a hand roll and they brought a regular roll and did not offer to exchange it for what he ordered. My wife had a two rolls that were good but nothing to write home about. Because our check was over a certain amount ($45.00??) we got a free dessert. We ordered the tempura banana. It took about 20 minutes or more to get to our table, and we were joking that they needed to run over to Shop-Rite to get the banana. That was more time than it took to get our dinner.
