I thought we were a bit out of place but then, they put on 90s alternative (did they guess my age and favorite band??!!). We were greeted enthusiastically by a young and joyous staff who was more than happy to have us try lots of fun flavors. I went with the lemon ginger sorbet pint, my husband orange sorbet pint. My lemon ginger would have been less bitter and the ginger was a little bit too prominent. My husband also said his sorbet could have been less bitter. I would return in hope of trying other dairy free or frozen yogurt flavors but not sure I would buy any of the other pricey products.

So I whipped my bike around, and headed inside. The exterior of the store is small and cute. I loved seeing everything in the window. Great advertising. The name itself also made us giggle. There were a few others walking by and they had a giggle too. Clever for sure. Really gets people looking. Once inside there were two men working. I think it was close to closing because they were wrapping things up. But, they were willing to help us place our order and get us situated. They were kind and helpful. I opted for a chocolate base cupcake, red velvet, and funfetti. Funfetti was my favorite! The cake was moist and the icing was nice and sugary. I prefer a sugary icing. The chocolate cupcake was rich in flavor. I absolutely loved the cupcakes. Simple with a little pizazz. The cost was about $4+ for each cupcake. I think that is on point and pretty reasonable. It is comparable to other bakeries in NY and other states. I'd definitely return to grab some more on my next trip.

We stumbled upon Charlotte Patisserie, which was open till 8 and we were pleasantly surprised by the selection of desserts there as well as the amazing staff who served us. We got a Passion Fruit Orange dessert, a rose, and an affogato. Because they had ran out of vanilla soft serve, they made it with salted caramel soft serve, which was really good with the espresso! Even though we arrived close to 7:30p, the staff didn't seem bothered by the last minute guests, and actually even poured us a generous glass for the Rose for us to enjoy. We had a really pleasant conversation with the staff as she was closing up shop and honestly would love to come back in the future!

((4.25 stars))…read more new-ish large spacious bakery located right across from Union Square Park on Union Square West. a selection of baked items like pizza, croissants, cakes by the slice, and tarts as well as doughnuts, gelatos, soft drinks, and a coffee + tea menu are all on display from the from the entrance to midway into the interior. the interior has a warm, casual modern vibe to it with some standing tables as well as a few seats. the space is clean, organized, and brightly lit. stopped here a few times to grab a coffee or an iced Americano to go. the coffees that i had were consistent and tasted good, especially since i was on the go and needed a caffeine pick-me-up. last time, i was here--decided to grab a slice of pizza for lunch and eat-in. there are several pies that you can choose from...as this is not a pizzeria...so i don't think that you can add toppings or anything. the slices are warmed up via one of those electric oven gadgets (i think). overall, the pizza was pretty good and better than I expected since this is not a pizza joint. the slice is an NYC-styled pizza slice. the slice: melty cheese, a nice smelling crust, and a decent sauce. the crust was not as crispy as i'd ideally want it and the sauce probably needed a punching up, but again this isn't a pizzeria. the focus at Angelina seems to be the pastries like the croissants, bombolones, cannolis, etc. but there are plenty of savory options as well. what stands at AngelinaBakery to me is the genuine friendliness of the employees. they are pleasant to deal with, making things happen for customers (versus being glued to a phone), and just have good energy behind the smiles and service. hat tip to the employees and whoever did the hiring at this location because this crew of workers understand hospitality without it seeming weird or phony-like. if you are in Union Square and need a casual place, stop by this bakery and enjoy the calories and vibes.

The strawberry cream bombolone wasn't very sweet and can taste the fresh strawberries in the cream. The chocolate frosted donut was a big one and had good chocolate on it. The box was huge and clearly just a walking ad for the business. Some of the cookies tasted better than others and weren't the most attractive. I liked the vanilla coconut one I ordered, but it was too sweet to eat the whole thing in one sitting.
