Side note: Requested to add chocolatier to the Yelp listing as they're a specialty shop for chocolate mousse. Anyway, I guess I'll write a short review as I had their stuff when I went to the associated Bar Goyana (https://www.yelp.com/biz/bar-goyana-new-york). The final course there was a selection of their mousses though unfortunately matcha was not available. In general, the texture was soft and creamy and not as rich as some mousse I've had before. I found them tasty in general, though I had definite preferences. As I had a rich meal, I went with the passion fruit, which has a bit of ruby chocolate mixed into it. This was tasty with some sourness but not too tart. There was some sweetness, but it wasn't overly so. I also tried and liked the 70% dark chocolate a lot, which had good bitterness, but it was balanced. My least favorite of the bunch was the hazelnut praline. It was just too sweet for me, and the hazelnut flavor was a bit lost in the milk chocolate. I think more nuts and less chocolate in short would make it better. There's not much else to say. Good little dessert place even if the location is a bit surprising (I could personally see this place doing quite well in the Village or something, but it's nice for this to be here.) read more

I don't know why I waited this long to review them. I visited them first when they newly opened. I loved their chocolate mousse the best but their other flavors were pretty good too. They offer the best customer service. Both husband and wife are so kind, generous, and just pleasant to talk to. The minute you walk in they greet you with a smile and a heart of gold. Everything from the packaging to the mousse itself to the little details (gold-colored straw, tray to serve mousse to stay, and spoon) made this an overall amazing experience. I came in with a friend to sit down and catch up. We were offered samples of the dark chocolate and matcha mousses to try-- I ended up getting the dark chocolate and she got the matcha. Honestly, you cannot go wrong; both were so delicious. The dark chocolate was rich like pudding with air bubbles to make it mousse. The matcha was like white chocolate with a subtle matcha flavor to elevate it. My friend described it as 'refreshing' and honestly she would be right. There was something so light about it-- if you like matcha, I definitely recommend this one. We also got the passion iced tea ($5), which tasted a lot like the starbucks iced passion tango tea. Big fan. What can I say. The cons are that the mousses are on the more expensive side ($5 for the smallest size) and there is no AC in the store so if you're looking for refuge from the heat... you'll be out of luck. It's brand new with fresh backed items and a Mousse Specialty. I opted my first visit for the fresh baked almond croissant. It was a hearty meal, thick and sweet. I'd definitely get this for breakfast again. It's $3.81 with the tax. Next time I'm going to have a coffee too. The employee on duty was very nice, dressed professionally, and efficient at her job. When I was indecisive she gave me a sample of the Brazilian Cheese Bread. I decided it was too doughy for my liking. That's when I opted for the croissant. I definitely want to return to try the White and Dark Chocolate Mousse. It's clean and well organized with customers in and out. They have plenty of seats inside and out if you arrive early. Even the two folks ahead of me were mindful to order their items and keep it moving in a timely manner. Photogenic, yes, but in a way that feels completely natural with indoor seating in full effect. Ben was helpful and she explained Mojo's Mousse flavors. Foundation is obviously on Mousse- but there's a nice Beverage menu worth digging in also. I was in my own Mojo spree and racked up on a few things. Mousse containers come in 3oz, 10oz and 13.5oz cup sizes (think there's another size). I doubted the Passion Fruit mousse- but the minute I heard it's made with real passion fruit pulp, I was sold. Win. Win. And win!!! Hazelnut was another contender so got the 3oz cup. But the king of all kings was Chocolate Mousse and had to top those 2 with a 13.5oz (pint?). Plus a 70% Dark Belgian Hot Chocolate that was boss. Passion Fruit Mousse, Hazelnut and ESPECIALLY that Chocolate- is extraordinary. So much so, I regretted not buying another Chocolate 13.5 cup. Before we get to the good stuff, believe me there is a ton of good stuff here are some fun facts: 1. Belgium, IMO, is the chocolate capital in the world. When I visited, of course, I checked out Godiva chocolatier in Brussels.. a must! 2. MOJO is the first chocolate mousse bar to open in NYC 3. MOJO is owned by chef Johan Halsberghe and the name stands for Mousse by Johan.. clever man! Johan worked for the Belgian ambassador at the UN where he crafted meals and desserts. His mousse quickly became a highly requested dessert and well the rest is history! If you want to taste the richest, delicious and heavenly chocolate mousse this is your place. This mousse is a creamy concoction that can lead to a serious addiction. The cafe has a very European feel with light wood dining, cozy window seating and soft lighting. The cafe sells mousse to go, chocolate bars and premium high quality coffee. The mousse flavors on tap were white chocolate, dark chocolate, hazelnut praline (sold out when we visited) passion fruit, ruby chocolate and matcha. You can order a mousse flight and pick up cool home items: gold straws and spoons, towels and a cool golden cooler MOJO logo bag for a steal @$10. The staff is courteous and offered samples of mousse flavors to try before selecting. I tried the white chocolate mousse with chocolate crisp pearls( heaven in a plastic container) and a delicious cup of macchiato. Rochelle ordered the dark chocolate mousse which contained a piece of chocolate in the middle. There are nice touches: the hammered gold trays that house your delectables and the treasure chest of " fortunes" written by Marcus Aurelius. Johan also opened the Brazilian cocktail bar, Bar Goyana, connected to MOJO. His wife is from Brazil and he is from Belgium so you are visiting 2 beautiful countries in one visit! Even if you don't live on the Upper East Side, if you like mousse, stop by Mojo Desserts! I actually did not intend to stop here, but one of my favorite dessert shops was closed due to the pandemic, and I needed a birthday treat for my roommate. It is now so dangerous that I live in the area because Mojo Desserts is on my list for best desserts in the city! Regarding pricing, it varies by size. A 3oz is $4, 8 oz is $10, 10 oz is $12, etc. At first this seemed pricey to me, but two things justify the price. The first is that the mousse is so rich and filling, you are not left dissatisfied. Second, it is DELICIOUS. Sometimes, mousse tastes like glorified whipped cream, but the mousse here is silky, velvety, an the flavors are ON POINT. So here's my caveat. When you select your flavor, know thyself. I've tried the passionfruit, white chocolate, and dark chocolate. The flavors are true and extremely rich. So, if you're not super into the flavor, there's nothing there to hide or mask the natural flavor. For example, the passionfruit was a little too sour for my taste, and I like the sweetness that comes with fake passionfruit. The white chocolate was also too rich. But my kryptonite is dark chocolate, and it is AMAZING! All had the same amazing texture, so to have the best experience, only go with flavors you are 100% obsessed with. The first time I came here, the cashier offered me a free sample of hot chocolate, but I didn't want to try it unless the mousse was actually good, so I declined. A week later, of course I was back because the mousse is so fabulous. If you like hot chocolate, GET THIS HOT CHOCOLATE (small: $3.50, large: $4.50). The hot chocolate tastes like rich, liquified milk chocolate; it is SO GOOD, and fills you up with all the warm and fuzzys. The chef and staff are extremely friendly and explain everything to you. They really appreciate your business. They include plastic gold spoons for you to enjoy your mousse with a fancy touch also. They also have a good selection of croissants, muffins, and various other pastries. However in my opinion Their mousse bar is the go to option. The day I went they had 5 options. All the options were smooth, creamy, and very well balanced between not being overly sweet and still maintaining is intended flavor profile. We heard about MOJO through an article and decided to give it a try when we were on the UES. If you're a mousse fan, it will NOT disappoint. Imagine your local coffee shop, but in dessert form. With a laid back vibe, including a couch, tables, stools by the window, and newspapers to catch up on the day's events, you'll feel comfortable enough to stop in for your morning coffee or drop by after work for a quick snack. (Chef Johan was also the one making all the orders and serving everything to the guests, including drinks and waters, which just made everything that much more personal.) If it's your first time, I strongly suggest grabbing a coffee and trying the mousse flight to get a taste of all five flavors (dark chocolate, white chocolate, hazelnut praline, matcha, and passion fruit). You'll have your favorite in no time. We weren't able to finish all the mousse in our flight (it was 1pm, and after brunch, it was a little too much sweetness on a full stomach), but loved the dessert and respected the chef.
