Kassandre was amazing in service, greeting and ensuring everything was perfect. The Bean Burger is always a great choice. We will return. Don

This joint gets the fourth star from two things: the nostalgia vibe and obvious live music/entertainment space. Love the license plates, large oils company signed, old vinyl record covers, autographed photos, etc. Cool vibe. Ya know, I went to Sam's a couple of years ago ...I drive by it every day...and occasionally wonder how a self proclaimed "burger guy" like myself hasn't been back. Now I remember. It's the price. Plain and simple. Look, like I said, I'm a burger guy. It's my favorite thing to eat - so I'm tough on burger places. The burger was good. The fries were hot and perfectly cooked - good and crispy. But, I left hungry. There are definitely bigger burgers out there...and larger portions of fries. The $15 price tag ...plus the $5 to add fries and a drink. To steep for what you get. Service was fine. It's your basic stand to order... you face that awkward tip request on the screen before you even sit...you get a number and sit...routine. They do bring your food, and you don't buss your table...so there's that.

The burger itself was good -- juicy and flavorful. They advertise it as 1/2 lb, but honestly, it didn't quite seem that big. The place has a cool, laid-back shack vibe, which we liked. But here's the issue: the pricing just doesn't make sense. The burger alone is $15 with no sides. Then it's another $4 for a small side or $9 for a large, plus $2 for a drink. You're easily looking at close to $30 for a basic cheeseburger meal. Even with their "combo" deal (adding fries and a drink for $5), it still comes out to about $25 after tax and tip -- way too steep for what you get. The queso and salsa really need improvement -- its definitely canned nacho cheese or Velveeta, and it's $10 for that? Definitely disappointing. It's a shame because the burger itself is great! If it were $15 with fries and a drink included, I'd have no complaints. Unfortunately, with these prices, we won't be back.

I love this venue. I've been here so many times for band concerts. They always have quite a few of my favorite bands play here. Nice little outdoor spot to hang out. Service is okay. Never had any food here. Drinks, definitely.

Average but at least they have military discount. I think it's weird to pay & tip before you're served. The thin lady bussing the tables is very nice.

Had a great lunch at Sam's Burger Joint in San Antonio! The ladies at the register were super friendly and helpful, sharing their personal and fan favorites with us. We went with the mushroom Swiss burger and fried pickles--both were absolutely delicious! The vibe was awesome, even with a few large lunch groups--it still felt laid-back and enjoyable. The music was on point, and the quirky decor added to the fun. We were dining with someone visiting from out of town, and one of the staff kindly shared the story behind the photos and history on the walls, which made the experience even better. We can't wait to come back and show our out-of-town guest what Sam's is like during a concert--especially now that we know their venue next door fits up to 400 people!

Was greeted as soon as we walked in. Super kind staff. Food was good, nothing crazy special, but a delicious burger. The place itself is filled with tons of posters, license plates, etc - pretty cool vibe. Definitely kid and dog friendly. We sat inside, but they have a patio area with outside seating. The food was kind of expensive, for two people we paid about 50$ for a burger, fries and a drink.

What a fun and delicious meal. The bacon burger and jerk chicken sandwich were flavorful and cooked to perfection! Holy cow, the onion rings and fried pickles had a perfect crunch and just the right amount of salt. The tater tots were great also. We were there early in the day and a steady stream of happy customers flowed through, that's how you know it's good. Loved the ambiance and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

Nestled amidst three bustling streets, this hidden gem beckons with its unmistakable charm. Despite its modest size, the venue boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, accommodating around 20 to 30 patrons. A glance inside reveals a well-stocked bar, perfect for indulging in libations while tapping your feet to the rhythm of live music. The open kitchen concept adds an exciting flair as you witness skilled chefs craft your culinary delights. From the warm greetings of the staff to the camaraderie among guests, the atmosphere exudes warmth and hospitality. After perusing the menu, I opted for the bacon cheddar burger accompanied by a side of chili cheese tots. While the flavors were fresh and delightful, the canned cheese on the tots fell short of expectations. Use a better & fresh cheese. Nevertheless, the Angus beef used in all burgers is tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor--a testament to the establishment's commitment to quality. For those traversing this charming neighborhood, a visit to this establishment promises an evening of delectable bites, soulful melodies, and unforgettable memories.

What a tasty burger! I had the cheaper bacon burger with fries and it was awesome! Our wait staff was super helpful and friendly. Sent compliments to the chefs in the back as the burger was cooked just right and moist. Love the feel of the inside with the music posters and album covers. Comfortable seating at the bar and plenty of space. Now interested in the music line up. Will have to look into that next as I will be back!

The tots and my samwich. Love the buns

Came here during lunch with coworkers. Not my choice but I was pleasantly surprised by my order. No the Jamaican Jerk Samwich wasn't authentic jerk, at least the jerk I've had. It was just a very flavorful, well done and seasoned piece of chicken. The tots were just normal tots, not great but not bad. We did order nachos. These were also just ok. The place is pretty cool, and had a great time looking all over the walls and ceiling. My rating is mostly for just my order, as I can't pick off my coworkers plates like I do with family. Next I will bring them and try other items.

9 outta 10. The blonde lady at the register could smile a little more and they could be a little more efficient but other than that, I went to eat so the food didn't disappoint me.

Nice big burgers that don't skimp on the toppings or the taste. An unintended trip led me back to Sam's Burger Joint after a long hiatus. It was a good experience, as much as it was in the past. I love their bean burger, but this time I went with the guacamole Jack Burger. It came loaded with lots of guac' and a huge piece of cheese that pretty much wrapped the burger. I always love their sweet potato fries, but they also have tater tots, regular fries, and fried pickles. Next time I will re-investigate their fried pickles. I got street parking for a quarter (yep, 25¢) for the hour. They have a small bar, but I was in uniform and decided to quench my thirst in bottomless Texas sweet tea, that I transitioned to an Arni Palmer on our way out. If I had the opportunity, I would certainly return to hang out for the live music entertainment that Sam's is known for. I'm glad I got a chance to revisit Sam's. It's a good place for fun and a good burger.

This trip since we craved for burgers, ordered: Bistro burger- wonderfully seasoned and cooked, served on sourdough, with avocado, grilled onions and mushrooms, mayo. One thing that should be added, the works, I felt it would be even better with the addition of lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. I ordered the cucumbers sans chamoy and lucas. I appreciate simple veggies. Mexican burger- excellent! Juicy burger with cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, bacon and the works. The tater tots had a nice and crispy outer texture as it should. Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

It's been a few years since I've been by; so, I was truly looking forward to getting something. I chose The Brat & tots (plain). I was very happy with my choice. The gentleman greeted me immediately. I thought it would take me a minute, but, as I stated, I chose The Brat immediately. I'm a little high strung from my age, so people kinda chuckle. It's cute. I make me smile. They put the perfect amount of mustard on it too! See the photos, but it comes covered with cabbage & crispy fried onions. It is amazing. I was able to get a whole 1/3 of it eaten before my body shut down. Tot wise, they were hot & perfectly fried! I like to dip mine in ketchup, but they offer you various other dips as well. So, I got ranch cuz, um, of course. Also, I really like their soda brand. I can't remember it, but it's a dia de los muertos skull for the logo, but I love their roots beer, which was my beverage of choice today. My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.
