Today I made the barber switch, it's a big deal for some of us. My fiancé sometimes says my barber is like a 2nd girlfriend since I have to be so faithful to him & come back. I was nervous but after reading all the positive Yelp reviews I said why not. I walked in & Sam was there giving a young boy a haircut. The old barbershops is go to we're slammed out the door and the wait could be up to 3 hours. Before he started he asked me what exactly I wanted and had visioned. Same went above and beyond and gave me pointers to shape out the hairstyle I want for my wedding. I was looking for a Barber for my 9 year old boy. Our regular shop has been getting packed with waits of up to an hour. I had a bad experience at a haircut place about 2 years ago and had been cutting my hair myself just buzzing it ever since. Well the last time I did this the plastic guard fell off my clippers quickly turning my #4 half inch buzz into a #0 almost bald look that was less than flattering on me to say the least. I saw this place open up not too long ago because I visit my buddy's at the market next door on an almost daily basis read a few good reviews and decided to give it a try. I walked in just after 5 (an hour before closing) on a Saturday there was two barbers working both with a client. Sam himself was one of them and greeted me and told me have a seat will only be a couple minute wait. After finishing with his client who I learned to me a close friend of his he didn't stand around and talk to him making me wait longer which I really liked it showed he respected my time and I thank him greatly for that. Anyways about the haircut I had Sam give me a high fade and left the top alone to continue growing it out. He said he's the best at fades and with 26 years of experience doing them was effortless for him to have me looking great in no time. He made great conversation during no weird awkward silent moments like you get with some places. Shaved the back of my neck with a straight blade which I loved since I think I have some gorilla DNA in me. First time at sams, was able to be seen within minutes of arival. Very clean place relaxed atmosphere located in a nice neighborhood. They dont require fancy reservations or a phone number or to sign up for anything just simple come get a haircut leave looking good. Very attentive to detail and even use a straight razor to make sure the edging on your haircut is clean from day one! Really apreciate the care they put into this shop. My normal barber was sick so I tried this place close to my house based on the reviews. ....lets just say what happened to me was a crime! I asked for a medium razor fade and with the first stroke of the clippers I knew I was screwed when he used no gaurd all the way to the top of my head. With out ever asking me, he proceeded to go Edward scissor hands on the top of my hair. Then he razored about a half inch of my front hair line.. I seriously felt sick as I was leaving and am still contiplating buzzing my hair completely off as the only possible solution to fixing it!! Words cant describe my frustration. I like Old Poway and my wife recommended Sam's so I tried it. Plenty of parking, sports on the big screen but not overwhelming. Great atmosphere with professional, energetic, and happy barbers ready to get you looking sharp. I got the "buzz cut" and my barber neatened it up with a straight razor to raise the sideburns and the back of my neck. Wife was happy with the look too! I'm sorry I don't usually do this but this has been the worst experience I've ever had in a barbershop. They don't know what they are doing. There customers are either little kids or old men who barely have any hair. If you are like me who is extremely picky with their haircuts don't come here because you probably know more than they do. Went to this barber shop to try something new since I don't get hair cuts often having long hair. I showed him a picture and tried describing what I wanted and he proceeds to say "I know what you want" and ignores me the rest of the hair cut. Then I realize how much he messed up the neck when I arrive at hole and I try to ask for a refund or at least my tip back and he tells me that this is supposed to be the style and I have it combed wrong so he can't refund me since it's what I asked for which does not make sense you can't comb a hairline. So the staff is incompetent and when called on their BS they proceed to play dumb 0/10 would go again. read more
