I can't say enough good things about Pappy's Barbershop. I recently brought my elderly father in for a haircut without an appointment, fully expecting that we might have to come back another day. Instead, the owner personally welcomed us, took the time to fit my dad in, and treated him with genuine kindness and respect. What truly touched me was his generosity. After giving my father a great haircut, the owner refused to charge us. That level of compassion and thoughtfulness is rare and speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. The haircut looked fantastic, but what stood out even more was the way he treated my dad. He made him feel comfortable, valued, and cared for, and that meant a lot to our family. It's clear that for the owner, this business is about more than just cutting hair--it's about treating people with dignity and kindness. Thank you for going above and beyond. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and will absolutely be back. I highly recommend Pappy's Barbershop to anyone looking for excellent service from an owner who truly cares about his customers. Thank you again for your compassion and generosity! read more

Great work Clayton, I appreciate you! I've had long hair for months and wanted to clean up and feel good. I looked through some barbershops and found Pappy's in Poway. I made an appointment yesterday and got my cut today. When I walked in, I was offered a drink, some snacks, and a place to sit. Waited just a few moments for Clayton and we got started. I did request that we have a short consult before the haircut and I made sure I came early. They're pretty booked up. I asked for Clayton's opinion, he gave it, and I agreed. It wasn't rushed and he took time to understand what I wanted. And then he delivered! The shop is kept cool, clean, and comfortable. Thanks again guys! read more

In my quest to try different barbers around town, I stumbled upon Pappy's Barbershop on Poway Road. The reviews looked great so I decided to give it a go. I booked an appointment online where I was able to choose from a couple of services and the ability to choose the barber. As for my selection I wanted next day and selected an available barber which was Jackson. The ease of the booking online was easy although you do have to use a credit card to secure the appointment. When I arrived, my barber Jackson greeted me and got to work. Overall my first time experience was great as Jackson did an excellent job giving me a great haircut as I requested. He was detailed and precise in his work. I would definitely recommend this barber for their quality and service. read more

My two teenage boys love coming here for their haircuts! We've been going to Chad for years and have never been disappointed. Today I felt like I needed to post because of the pure kindness we experienced at today's cut. My son is in a long leg cast from toes to mid-thigh and the entire shop was super kind and accommodating. The encouraging words from Chad as we left really meant a whole lot - thank you. The service, the care, everything is top notch! Five stars + !! I definitely recommend this location! read more

My son's hair cut was done by Joshua Munoz. I showed him the exact picture that I wanted picture of my son all he had to do was trim his hair. He cut his hair at the back so high and crooked that it just bulky. When I pointed it out, he start making excuses. First excuse is that my son's hairline grows that high. Second excuse is that we are not symmetrical and he can't make the hair straight. it's so ridiculous I understand that I'm not a professional barber, but the excuses are too stupid. If you decide to go to the barbershop, do not go to Joshua. And yes, he did charge me for this haircut. And made me the villain. Told me I should look for a different barber, but I don't like it. I don't know how this shop gets so many good reviews that's why I went if you said go to the shop don't let Joshua near you. read more

Love the vibe for my husband and teen boys. Brought my husband in to cut his long wavy hair. He was nervous, but Austin put him at ease. She followed my directions to the letter. After coming home, we didn't love the square look of the cut. Austin hooked us up by adding layers with no additional charge. Plus free drinks in the fridge and vintage candy at the door. We found our new shop! read more

This shop is dirty gross, like the floors have never been washed! Literally smelled like crap despite all the fans on and the back door open. Barber is always late meaning no respect for MY time. Not impressed with the outcome of the haircut either. Won't give this place a second chance! read more

The vibe here is great, but the haircuts are even more fantastic! Austin did an awesome job on my hair and I love it! Will be coming back for sure! read more

This review is awkward... I went in for a straight edge shave and haircut trim. My straight edge shave was ok. My haircut was ok. I have long hair on the top and I understand its hard to deal with sometimes. But I wanted a skin shave from my beard to my long hair. For my beard I asked for some of it taken off and then to thin it out. Showed with my fingers how I wanted it and what I wanted shaved off. I didn't ask for my sideburns to be thinned out. But he did it. I'm a big guy, thin side burns don't work for us. My long hair now. I asked for skin up to my long hair. I had my hair tied in more or less a top knot and then he clipped the ponytail to my hair so it doesn't get in the way. I thought to myself "cool"! I take out my hair tie at the end of it, lots of my long hair is coming out... I didn't ask for it to be cut... Like, what the heck just happened. (Originally set as 3 stars) As I'm typing this, my thought is to bring it down to a 2. My issue here is attention to detail. I'm asking for something specific. Don't stray from what I've asked because this what you "typically do". If you are not sure when cutting something, ask if this is how they want it. Last note, they weren't busy. There was no one else in the shop. So its not they had a handful of customer to get to next. I need attention to detail with my barber. Time to find another I guess. Update: Hi Gehrig, You are 100% right. Profanity wasn't needed. I didn't realize I even did that. I updated that. My apologies for that. In regards to the "thinning out" My beard was maybe a 3 in length and I asked for a 1.5. That was the thinning out. I asked for the shaping on my cheeks so the beard was brought down to my jawline. In regards to the man bun. My hair isn't really a man bun. I put it up so make it easier for the barber to outline the cut. I wish it was just a "few" but it wasn't. I pulled out a decent amount. If straightening it out was necessary I wish he said something about it first. What if there was a reason it was like that? Now its cut and nothing I can do about it. I completely agree, I think all of your barbers are capable of doing an amazing job. I wish I was more active on Yelp before. The first time I had been there, someone did an amazing job on trimming my hair and beard line. They even took the time to straight edge my beard against the grain after the initial straight edge to make it look nice. No need for a refund. I wasn't charged for the beard. I even still tipped pretty decent. I also really didn't mean for the profanity. I just wanted to give my review. Thanks for replying! Hope you have a great rest of your weekend. read more

I've been going to this barber that is an owner of this shop for nearly ten years. He is awesome and takes care of me every time. The whole crew is great and it's always a good time going in to get my haircut. 10/10 barber read more

Great shop, service is excellent and haircuts are perfect. Both me and my 6 year old son came in and had a great experience. Will be back!

Got a great beard trim and line up with Clayton. Looks like I've found my new barbershop. Hot towels, relaxing atmosphere with great music and the perfect amount of banter that should be the norm at a barbershop - not too much and not too little. He took great care and detail to make sure everything was perfect. He even went beyond and fixed some stray hair and gave a light shoulder massage in the end. Can't ask much more and can't wait to come here for a haircut. read more

Went to this location because Sabrina, my old barber, left the El Cajon Blvd location so Marc referred me to Gehrig at the Poway location. Gehrig cares about all the little details and making sure you get the exact cut that you want, before and after. As a business owner, he really does care. I've been going to Pappys for 3 years now and you can't go wrong with any of their barbers. Thanks Gehrig! read more

I've been getting my hair professionally cut for about 15 years. I can say with FULL confidence that Gehrig is the best barber I've ever had. He always makes sure I'm comfortable and leaves me looking FRESH. I have since moved out of Southern California and struggle to find anyone half as good as him. Miss you Gehrig! read more

Excellent atmosphere and service. Full service shop for hair and beards. Chad is outstanding for beard care.

This one is a tricky review. I think the shop is probably great. But definitely not for kids. We were in town and the shop we currently go to in Virginia Beach said that we should go to Pappy's. We enjoy everyone at our normal spot so figured we should try it out. Online it says cuts are for 6 and up and I think they should just have a disclaimer that they truly don't want kids there. When I called I had said that it was for my son and if it was ok. If they would prefer we go somewhere else I totally understand and respect that. And I totally do. Not all barbers want to do kids cuts. But I was assured it was fine and they just truly didn't want younger kids. Totally respect that. We get there and our barber barely speaks to my son. It was the most awkward experience ever. He didn't ask my son any questions try to make him comfortable or anything. As a mom I truly dislike when that happens. The cut was fine but he used a trimmer on my sons neck and left scratches on it which was super frustrating. But he never once really told my son to look down. Look a certain way or anything. It was just weird. So long story- if you have kids. Maybe try a different spot. If you're an adult this is probably an amazing spot. read more

Took my dad here and the service was great! The Barbers were all so friendly and welcoming.

Always a treat to come to Pappy's. Easy to book, text reminder system, fun old school and they hand out drinks and small candies for my son. He will only go here. read more

Great place. I had never been to a Barber Shop and headed to one. I searched and called multiple locations all of which were booked solid. Pappy's luckily had availability so I snatched 2 spots one for me and one for my son. I haven't ever had my hair shorter than a 2 and I told them do what you do. I couldn't have been happier with the results. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED do yourself a favor and stop by get a cut at one of their locations. read more

Pappy's Barbershop - Barbers Near Me - Poway, California

This review is written based on my personal experience... all dealing with customer care. I happened to be leaving my favorite Mexican restaurant (Don Pollo) and noticed this hot little barbershop. Alas, it was already closed for the day. Of course I felt obligated to make sure to take the time to capture some images. This was two weeks ago. Tonight I remembered to check it out. Once again it was already after hours. Someone is inside getting their haircut. Whoa! I gingerly open the door and ask if I could come inside. "OF COURSE!" summarizes the barber's response. It felt like I was meeting a new neighbor and I was a guest in his house. Such a warm welcome! I spent more time than planned getting acquainted. This place is exactly what we need. Barbers willing to take the time to cut it right the first time. Classic. It's a time capsule resembling a real barber with decor to match. Did I mention the assortment of complementary beverages located in the classic fridge or the funky merchandise they have for sell? A lot of love is in this joint. The best part is you can get a real appointment! You don't have to sit around waiting for a seat to open while hoping the barber cares enough to cut it the way you want. You know...listen! This skill set is difficult to find and yet is seen here. You have a choice. Go get a haircut or get your hair styled at Pappy's! read more

Tried Pappy's Barbershop in Poway today for the first time. Wow! What a cool place. Looks like barber shops from when I was a kid (65 years ago. All decked out with neat matching old timey looking barber chairs. Cool memorabilia on the walls. A delightful puppy who will come over to say hello and then go mind her own business. My barber was Gehrig, the nicest guy you ever want to meet. He gave me exactly the type of cut I asked for. Pleasant chit chat about old time baseball. Hot towel and razor neck shave. Didn't push products. I'll definitely be going back again. I suggest you give them a try. read more

This place offers great haircuts at a reasonable price. I've been going here for a few years now, and I've never had any problems. If you can explain the haircut you want, they'll deliver. It's easy to book an appointment online and you can get text message reminders. Also, the staff are welcoming and the atmosphere is cool. read more

This place is a joke. My son missed his appointment this morning called to see if he can still go in later and not be charged again and they said yes 2 time by someone answered my call. My son goes in and was charged again. Took advantage of my kids. Who would pay $70 for a haircut. Disgusted by the service. read more

Horrible service by Collin. I asked to tighten the sides and leave the top long as is and he literally trimmed the top for no reason. I wouldn't be as disappointed and unsatisfied if I didn't have a trip coming up in a couple of days and I now have to deal with a haircut I didn't ask for in the middle of my vacation. I wanted this place to be the spot where I get my haircuts but if one of their "seasoned" barbers screws up a simple ask then I won't bother associating with disgusting quality. read more

I love this place. They give a great haircut. Been here twice. Great conversations about music. The best thing that ever happened to Poway. They even offer you a free soda or water. Where do I begin? I can start with the friendliness of each barber, or the vibe, or the shop,or how they offer you a free old school soda from their fridge or I can state the obvious that their haircuts are top notch! I've had long hair for the past few years and I've never been to a barbershop. I was a little scared to go at first because I've never had an actual haircut, but These guys know what they are doing. I've seen Gehrig twice and both times he's done an amazing job. I couldn't be happier with this place! Thanks read more

My favorite barber shop! I have been going by the same barber for as long as I can remember, so when I heard about this place from a buddy of mine I was reluctant. Boy was that a mistake. The shop is in pristine condition, granted it's brand new. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by both owners which was a bit surprising. They offered me free drinks and really took the time to talk with me. That combined with a skater/rock/old school vibes really left an impression and had you looking around most the wait time. While my haircut is super basic due to my work, I'd say it was one of my better haircuts. Staff continued to talk with me throughout the entire cut and tell me how the place came to be. All and all, I'd say it's was an amazing experience combined with perfectly executed decor. I'd personally recommend this shop to anyone looking to get a haircut. read more
