TERRIBLE place now. It didn't use to be. I loved coming to Parlor for over FOUR YEARS and we never had one issue prior to the past few months. I was with one barber the entire time until his surgery last spring, then again when he returned from it. I can only say that he's a completely different person now - and not in a good way at all. He cancelled us last minute the past FOUR appointments that we had booked weeks in advance - that's four months in a row. He did it again this morning at 6:am even though he knew we had an out of town wedding we're leaving for in the morning (we told him nearly four weeks ago). The previous cancellation was because he was sore from surfing the day before (not joking, I have the text). This time it was an ongoing car issue; and the time prior, a sudden change in his schedule right before our appointment. It's a pattern of disrespect and inconsideration that was intentionally overlooked by us until his decision not to come to work today really put us in a tight spot. Finally, his haircuts have been increasingly poor in quality since earlier in the year. We stuck with him out of loyalty and the fact he was ailing. In hindsight, it was a mistake as we should have stayed with Kelli who we used while he was out (and who was a total angel and pro). Also, the incredibly loud, redundant techno dance music, incessant talk about sports gambling and the owners kids running all over the store while he screams at them has ruined the once very chill vibe there. Speaking of the owner, he refused to even discuss the situation created by his employee. He said he wouldn't have time and didn't care that it cost him two clients who have been there for over FOUR YEARS and have left ten previous five star reviews here AND WHO LEFT HUGE TIPS EVERY TIME. Not even a discussion? Interesting customer retention scheme. Maybe I should have parlayed that with CFB or the MLB playoffs to get a minute of your time. I've been getting my haircut by Rina for over 5 years now. She's been at the Parlor Barber shop for a few years now. The Parlor Barber shop is my favorite spot to get a haircut. It has a really cool vibe with video posters and cool music playing. There's always a good movie playing in the background as well. Kindly offers water and a comfortable couch to sit down and wait. Pricing is fair at $20-$30 for the high quality haircut. A Skin fade is their specialty and may be a bit extra. Highly recommend. read more

What makes this business think I can make it to the appt the next day at their rescheduled time? If you have a call out problem with your barber then address that but don't inconvenience the customer who wants to give you business. I moved to Poway in January and decided I wanted to get all my things done locally, from my dentist to my barbershop. Had a good experience here the first go around in February so I've come back several times since and decided to make it my regular spot. It wasn't until today, however, that the service escalated to a degree that got me jazzed up enough to write a review. Mind you - I always received a 5 star cut, but today I left feeling particularly clean. ** Much to my chagrin, I neglected to collect the young woman's name who performed the cut, I should have for the sake of myself and for the sake of this review! But for the business owner's knowledge it was the young lady manning the back left corner chair for my 10:30am appointment on 7/06 ** I arrived five minutes late, which is not up to my standard, fortunately they were still able to see me right away. I let the gal know I wanted to look "navy on the sides but not in the top" and she executed this to perfection. 15 minutes later and I felt like a new man. She was quick, precise, and provided me with a professional level cut I'm certain won't go unnoticed when I get back to the office on Monday. Having been late, I was predetermined to tip well as a courtesy, but I'd say she well earned the 66% tip and that's not coming from someone who tosses those out on the regular, Will be coming back, no surprise. read more

So I needed a haircut for a family get together and didn't have much time to plan so I went to Yelp for the rescue. I was referred to this place which is actually half the distance from my house to the normal place I go to and I think I found my new regular shop. I got a standard clipper cut and beard shave and it not only came out perfect but Kyle did it without hardly any direction. I just let him do his thing and he did it!!! Had to cancel an appointment today and found there were no provisions on the web site to do that. So, I wrote an e-mail 3 hours prior to the appointment to cancel and rebooked the appointment for the next day. When I got home hours after the cancelled appointment time, I received an e-mail from the barber shop stating I had been recorded on some sort of list for people who a "no shows," and I there was some mistake I should call them which I did. Basically, it was brought to my attention that I screwed up by not following their process. Truth be told their haircuts, while expensive, were just fine. But honestly, I'm not going to patronize a business that seems to feel as a customer, I'm the problem if there is one, especially when they don't have sufficient provisions to cancel appointments and don't check their communications. I'm sure there are plenty of good barber shops out there and from this point forward I will utilize one of them. read more

I hate to bad mouth, but I've been getting negative comments from loved ones all day. I ended up wearing a hat immediately after getting home. I specifically asked for a low fade. The barber cut as high as possible. He started lining up the front without me telling him to. He did not use any product or after shave. Frankly, one of the worst haircuts I have ever received. The place does have a cool vibe, and many people have great things to say, but my poor experience cannot go unnoticed. read more

I have been here four times now for a haircut and every time the attention to detail and quality of work has been excellent. Exceeding my expectations honestly. At one point during this last cut Travis put a hot towel on my head and pressed a light scalp message. Such a simple thing and yet I was transported to relaxation bliss. The back of the neck cleanup shave is a really nice touch that I've never experienced elsewhere. If you are looking for a quiet experience, this place may not be for you. All of the barbers talk to each other and converse like they are a close-nit family, which I don't mind at all. Other audio sources not too loud. I had no problems closing my eyes and relaxing while getting an outstanding haircut. Ten stars. read more

Second time here, really left a bad taste for me. I made an appointment previously with someone, which I did the first time. The day comes around and I came in first before anyone. The guy acknowledged me and I proceeded to wait. Fast forward nearly an hour waiting AFTER My appointment time and someone finally says to me that they booked me for the day BEFORE. I specifically knew that my appointment time was for the day I came in on since I had appointments the day before. Fine, I acknowledge there was miscommunication somewhere. To be honest, I'm not upset about that. It happens. Despite it, I asked to be seen next since I've ALREADY been waiting an hour. THEN, They had the nerve of telling me the next appointment is an hour later. So, you're telling me that the screw up has me waiting ANOTHER hour?? Especially since you could have told me an hour before when I initially came in. This could have all been avoided if they told me so I didn't have to wait! This is completely unprofessional. I went to this place a few times, yesterday I needed a haircut and Kyle was available so I booked with him. He didn't bother to listen to what i asked. From the time I sat down to the time he said it's done, 6 minutes. The fastest haircut I've ever had and the worst one I've ever had. He messed up the left side behind the sideburn... He doesn't seem to care about the quality of his work. One thing I'm not sure about is whether he did a bad job on purpose or is he that bad in what he does. Since my first time walking into the shop, nobody but Kyle has touched my hair. I've built friendships and has great times in this place, and I always look forward to my visits. So I went in there yesterday to get a cut done. Booked a late appt at 5. Paid 72 with tip for a cut and beard job. No hot towel, line up sucked, he didn't trim my goatee to be level with the beard and make it nice. Didn't use any product. When he showed me he said I could make adjustments. Had him bring the beard line down but after that he never finished the cut. Just said I was done and pushed me out the door at 6. I'm sorry but if you aren't proficient enough to finish a cut you schedule at 5 for a guy you shouldn't take the appt. I know I was past close but this is my first time using them and they should know better than to do that. Also as far as vibe, It's cool if you like some wook with an Edgar cut telling you how he does mushies on his off time blasting techno right after you get off work. Needless to say I will not be back. Instantly had to fix what he did when I got home and was embarrassed to go out and shop immediately after. Put my hat right back on leaving the shop. Wish I took a picture. Wasn't gunna post a review but my friend said I was absolutely had by this shop. He goes to country club barber in Esco and he's always lookin good. For the price I paid.
