On holiday in Amsterdam, Sampurna was recommended as the best rijstaffel in The Netherlands. It did not disappoint!! It was a tremendous combination and variety of Indonesian tastes/flavors. I did not count but we had at least 10 different and separate plates. Food and service was outstanding. Advice on what to order and amount was greatly appreciated and right on target. read more

Got this place recommended by a friend. At first sight I did not think too much of it. Small place and a stressed waitress. But then we sat down and one amazing dish after the other appeared! The food was amazing and our service turned out quite nice as well. If you are a group of 4 or more I recommend booking a table. But definitely worth it. First proper indonesian meal I have had since Jakarta in 2009! We went for the set menus that gave a lot of variety. And for dessert I would definitely get the asian creme brulee with a coconut twist! Yum! read more

The food here is delicious! We came here two times during our trip to Amsterdam because we couldn't get enough! I like how they give you chips to start. Their lunch menu is pretty extensive and I got their chicken soup both times. It really hit the spot. My husband ordered the gado gado and their tofu dish. The flavors were exquisite. I already miss the food here! read more

It is very very hard for me to give this place 2 stars when it deserves 5 (as one of my favourite dining spots in Amsterdam). Food is amazing, it's just that they just do not have a clue how to handle reservations on a weekend night. They tend to overbook and since the place is popular it's a total mess. If you do not reserve at the weekend you will never get a table. If you do reserve you won't get a table either. So the take home message is: do not go on a weekend night. 2 stars of protest only because it's not acceptable to wait an hour to get a table, be served in a rush by hyper-stressed staff, and having to dine with dozens of people standing next to your table, waiting to be seated (and protesting because they all had a reservation at 21:00). Just take less reservations guys, your food is excellent, you'll make profit anyways. read more

Best Indonesian food I've had on the globe. Enormous portions for the rijsttafel with delicate seasoning and complex sauces. Definitely worth a trip when visiting Amsterdam for truly gourmet Indonesian cuisine. Beautiful (and busy) restaurant as well. Price was fair. Definitely not cheap, but worth it for the quality and ambience. read more

Sampurna was recommended by a local woman we met earlier that evening - she was part Indonesian. Nothing I love more than many little plates of food. Our waitress knew that my hubby was a vegetarian and I was not and instead of giving us the VEGETARIAN (you seem to order for 2) she mixed it up to ensure I got some meat dishes - they were delicious. The flavors were bold, intense and fresh. a mix of Asian cuisines, you can tell it was fresh, authentic and a local favorite. Really enjoyed this restaurant. read more

We had heard that we needed to try Indonesian food while in Amsterdam, so we decided to go with Sampurna. I came with two friends, and we couldn't decide on which rice table we wanted, so we each ordered a nasi campur instead (this may have been our mistake). I remember that I really liked the beef as well as this nutty, crunchy thing on the plate (I have no idea what I was eating, to be honest), but the rest of the plate was pretty unimpressive. While it was an enormous portion, I thought it was expensive for what it was, and I didn't really like the array of flavors. read more

Amazing. Went here twice during a seven day trip of Amsterdam. Had the ricetaffl. Spelling is horribly horrible. Just incredible and worth the price. The entire experience from this restaurant is outstanding. Nice wait staff. Great great food. And nice location particularly if you're doing some flower shopping. Awesome spot. Worth the hype. read more

Just meh....a tad bit overpriced. Order the lumpia and you literally will get one egg roll cut in half, for the price of 6.80 euros...better off shelling the 7 euros at FEBO and getting full. The nasi goreng was tasty, but even that dish was close to 20 euros. read more

Was suggested to try Indonesian food in Amsterdam since Dutch had colonized the place. Wasn't expecting anything too authentic but boy, was I in for a surprise! Situated in the most crowded parts of Amsterdam, this place is a gem. We had good service but the most mind-blowing part was the food! We ordered Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice with chicken and shrimp) and it came with 4 sides: spicy fried egg (very delicious!), tapioca chips, salad and fried wheat berries (i think). We also had Bintang, Indonesian beer which went very well with the food. The only unfortunate part was I couldnt finish my food and they had run out of take out boxes Will definitely visit next time I am in Amsterdam. Highly recommended. read more

The food is tasty and the location is central. Rijstafels is what you should get if you want to try a bit of everything. I particularly liked the soup which is a starter in one of the rijstafels :) Things to consider: if you are with 4 people and have 2 rijstafels, water and wine on the table it will be like playing tetris; tables are not as big. Another thing to think about - it gets crowded, sometimes with tourists, and if those are loud (which happens) you can't really talk. Space between tables is very limited. read more

We had a excellent experience and food was very good for an Indonesian. The reijstaffel came in with generous portion We were starving an d the waiter was slow to start but once I spoke Indonesian things were hoping . Paid € 100 for two with a bottle of wine read more

One of my objectives on my recent trip to Amsterdam was to eat Dutch Indonesian food. I'm so glad we found Sampurna! My boyfriend and I shared the vegetarian rijsttafel, and I was astounded by the number and variety of little plates to try! The flavor of the coconut curry was exquisite, the tofu was so good that even my boyfriend liked it, and the spicy green beans were crunchy and not overcooked. The decor in Sampurna is very elegant, the service was attentive, knowledgable and friendly, and it was a great place for a date. I would have given them 5 stars, but there was no music. Music is a huge part of ambiance, and leaving that out kinda blew it. It's hard to have a romantic dinner when the all you can hear are other people's conversations. Over all, a very nice dinner though! read more

Had a nice dinner for 4. Felt a bit rushed to order from a large menu. Food was unusual, carefully seasoned. Tight quarters.

All I can say is WOW! Our tour guide gave us a suggestion for having a Rice Table and that's what we did. Indonesia was one of Holland's main colonies a few decades ago. Indonesian restaurants are to Holland as Tandoori is to London. We had to do this and we were very happy with the experience. The service was impeccable, smiling people and very friendly. The cost is somewhat pricey, so be prepared to pay BUT, be prepared to enjoy a plethora of dazzling, delightful and exotic flavors. Now, some you may be used to such as lemon grass, toasted coconut and peanuts. Lumpia is the egg roll. If you're familiar with Filipino fare, you know lumpia. We had the fish, chicken, goat Rice Table. Meat on skewers, fried fish pieces (white fish), pickled vegetables. Presented artistically before its waiting gastronomes. Oh my Lord, I would do this again in a heartbeat. If you're curious about flavors...there is similarities with Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese and Thai. Nothing that would scare anyone who is familiar with other Asian cuisines but it has its own delightful uniqueness. read more

This review is no reflection of Indonesian culture but rather our dining experience at this establishment. Food is very salty for my taste but I suppose you try everything at least once. Service is sub par. Waitress never checked up on us after delivering the food. Water was empty despite her looking over several times. Will not recommend. read more

Made reservations as is the standard thing to do in Amsterdam. We read a lot about this place and we're not disappointed one bit. There is a large choose of dishes, not too spicy and everything well seasoned. Clean and great atmosphere. We ordered from a set menu and it was way too much food for 2, it could of easily fed 4 people. Will defiantly be coming back read more

Very disappointed. Mediocre food - it looked good but all the many dishes had the same sauce- not flavorful at all. The chubby woman server was rude and dismissive. We had to continually wave our arms to get any service. read more

For me, Money vs Quality maybe somewhere around 2.5 stars for me. We ordered Soto ayam (this is clear chicken soup base) and Nasi siang with 4 satays (2 chicken 2 beef) with crackers. First dish, not impressed - not much chicken & rice and dor €9.5... hm.. too expensive and abit lack flavor. 1 star. Second dish €16.5 - the beef satay is the star dish, very delicous and tender and chicken satay is quite nice too. But the other part like serundeng, half a balado and so small portion of fried rice. Maybe abit disatisfied because indonesian usually use a fair bit of rice. So overall i would say around 3 star but again not very cheap. Ideally i believe the price should be aroun 2 Euro less then it is probably 4 star dish. Anyway its only my opinion. You might find it differently. read more

Overpriced for the quality of the food and service we experienced. The best dishes were the chicken curry and the beef skewers; the other dishes on the fixed menu were not memorable. The wait staff seemed rushed and relatively unconcerned about our satisfaction. In comparison to the other restaurants we visited during our trip, I thought this was mediocre at best, and not good value for the money (£180 for 6 people, sans any alcohol). read more

One of the best Indonesian meals I've had! And a super location - we sat out on the street and watched the flower market in all it's raw grandeur as we ate away. The highlight of our meal ( we went for lunch ) - was the nasi goreng vegetarian ( which the waitress was kind enough to accommodate us for as it wasn't on the menu) - licked the plate clean Highly recommend for mains. Didn't try dessert so can't comment on that. Suggest don't sit outside if u are a group of more than 2 as the tables are really tiny read more

First time having Indonesian food and this place did not disappoint. We came here on a Sunday after church and were told we had to be finished by 8pm, assuming they have the reservations booked starting that time. We ordered the beef satay, nasi goreng and another beef dish and they were super delish! Like all European countries expect to pay for water. Even still water cost in the range of €5. It is small inside so expect to squeeze your way between tables. Our server, Pudi (something that sounded that way) was good. Another difference with restos in Europe is they don't come to your table to ask how you're doing or how u like your meal so don't expect that. This place is highly recommended and a nice gem located along the floating tulip market read more

here's the thing... we weren't hungry enough to come here and drop the amount of dough that we did. Was the food good? Yes. Was it a good value, hell no. Sorry, but we got a sampler after having such a wonderful experience with a sampler at Moeders, but this one felt like a major rip off. All of the sides were more like garnishes than actual side dishes (example- toasted coconut). Meanwhile, they wouldn't serve us water unless we ordered drinks. So we had to buy sparkling water because we didnt want to drink.. we probably should have bought wine which I'm pretty sure was just as expensive as the water. They were also rushing us and paid us no mind once we got the food. They didn't seem pleased that we had come in. I wanted to try this place because I had heard indonesian food was so good in Amsterdam, but we should have found a different spot. read more

Everyone told me to get the rice plate in Amsterdam, so I went. Sampurna was good, despite having weird service. Again, I am a single diner, I know its weird, but I'm here on buisness, it can't be helped, I arrived too early before opening, so I ended up walking around the "flower market" and browsing the stores a bit. Sat down outside and ordered the skewer rice plate. It was good, filling, and lots of flavor. Very satisfying. Takes card. read more

An outstanding Indonesian restaurant with authentic dishes and great service and ambiance. A friend and I had the Batara Rijstaffel, and it was amazing! All the dishes were tasty and well portioned. I also highly recommend booking a table. It was a Wednesday evening, and we would have been disappointed had we not booked in advance. read more

Very good food and introduction to Indonesian food. Highly recommend this restaurant. Overall great dining experience!

Food was just OK. Unfortunately most items were way spicier than labeled, and by that I mean they were quite spicy but labeled as mild, which is fine but I may have ordered differently if I knew in advance. Service was unfriendly at best, very rushed and rude, struggled to even order additional water for the table after the first bottle at the beginning of the meal (torture with the spice level!). Otherwise, ambiance very nice. Probably will try somewhere else next time but could be convinced to give here another shot. read more

A week end in Amsterdam, we have to have Indonesian food. We had many choices but reading the review and based on the area we were we end up in Sampurna. First, make sure you book a table because from 6-9 on a Saturday, you will not get a table even if you are just 2. We could finally have dinner at 9pm. We started with a drink: Indonesian beer for my bf and a glass of Sauvignon blanc for me. Not sure where the Sauvignon blanc was from but it was excellent! We then ordered the rice table (rijstaffel) for 34.50 euros each. Not cheap but when I look at the amount of food we had, it was worth the price! We received a mixed of salad, coconut to spread on the food and 2 bowl of rice and with it we had 2 type of fish, chicken and lamb on sticks, chicken alone and prawns cooked on a sort of leave. I think the fish did not have much taste but the sauce that came with it make up for it. And be careful, if you are not use to spicy food, do not take this! It was really really spicy! We were really happy with our food. No dessert but tea to finish could be an option but I did not take any. The service was nice and waiters really friendly. We left that place with a belly full and happy smile :) read more

This awesome Indonesian Rijstaffel restaurant has some excellent ambiance and food. Inside is dark and moody, and fairly quiet. Service is great and fairly fast considering the complex dishes they serve up. They even have some good beer offerings from local craft breweries on tap. The food is a fantastic variety of spicy veggie and meat dishes, a true sampling of authentic dishes from Indonesia. The great part of the Rijsttafel menu is that you get a ton of little dishes, allowing a sampling of the cuisine and not going overboard on any one dish. Watch out, some dishes are quite spicy. read more

After spending more than a week in Europe, I stumbled upon Sampurna. I ordered the vegetarian rice table and it was, without a doubt, the best meal of my trip. The rice table came with more than 10 different dishes and all were delicious. In particular, the tempeh and tofu skewers with peanut sauce were phenomenal. The restaurant was fairly quiet at lunch time and the service was wonderful too. Though the meal was pricey (around $30 per person), I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

This is our second Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam (our first one was Blauw). The food here is decent. We had the 32€ rice table and we liked most food including cod, spicy beef, chicken satay, and coconut vegetables stew. Comparing to Blauw, I felt there were fewer selections here but the quality of food is top-notch. I would recommend this place. Come hungry and eat más! read more
