    Onion Rings
    Steven B.

The historic, Corner Tavern is now know as, Samm's Last Chance Saloon. It's a name change and ownership change, but it's still a dive bar on Main Street in downtown Edwardsville. It's connected to Ed's Delicatessen, so you know the bar grub is going to be good. My first visit, I enjoyed an order of Onion Wings and Buffalo Chicken Wings. I am a big fan of wings and when I order them out, I like it when my order has the same amount of flats and drums. My favorite piece is drums, but I still like having the same number of flats. Their Buffalo sauce had a good amount of spice, but was not overpowering. Which made them easy to enjoy. The Onion Rings are made in house, but for me they were just Plain Jane and nothing special. The rings were on the small side and the coating was a thin coating that really didn't much flavor. I wished I had ordered the Crinkle Fries instead. My adult beverage was a Vodka and Seltzer. I was pleased to see that their rail vodka is Tito's. Which makes for a refreshing cocktail. The staff was friendly, but it was obvious that they were still working with their sea legs. I am sure once they get things up running, they'll get better at their jobs.

I was delighted they serve a good Bloody Mary with a choice of garnishes including pickled okra and blue cheese stuffed olives.

My cousins who would join me at Bigelo's on occasion, have already been and recommended I check it out. It was lunch time, so I opted for an order of wings and hand-cut fries. Beer is my drink of choice when enjoying wings and it also gave me an opportunity to try the self-serve taps. It was a winning lunch. My wings were crispy and meaty and came with both Bleu Cheese and Ranch dips. I'm not a dipper when it comes to wings, but that is a nice touch. The fries, are house-cut and still had the skins on. Nice! They too, were prepared crisp the way a fry should be. The self-serve beer taps had a nice variety and were easy to operate. During my visit I sat at the bar and it provided me with great conversations with not only the bartender, but other diners who were quite entertaining. I'll definitely will be back, since I've been I have heard the salads and pizza are really good.

Getting there and parking: My family, including a pre-teen, met up at Stagger in to visit with a couple of our friends. Parking was a small challenge. There is a large public lot on the same block, but it was full when I got there around 6:20pm on a Wednesday. There is minimal street parking. Luckily, I found a spot after a couple of times around the block. Walking in, you can see right away that it really is a no-frills tavern. There's not even traditional table service, though it's not exactly counter service, either. You sit down, decide what you want from the menu, walk up to the kitchen counter to place your order, and give the ticket the kitchen gives you to your server. However, the menu was much nicer than what I expected, with very fair prices! Appetizers ranged in variety from French fries and wings to fried pickles and spinach artichoke toasted ravioli, with prices ranging from around $4 to $8. Entrees included a variety of sandwiches, salads, and burgers from $4 to $8.50 or so. They even had vegetarian and pescatarian options, including a blackened tuna sandwich and a black beans burger! All three of us, including a picky pescatarian adolescent, found food we enjoyed! Beyond the food, the service staff was friendly and the bar service was adequate. In all, it was a really great place e together up with friends AND bring a kid--at 6:30 on a weeknight, at least! I would very much recommend this place to a group looking for a casual environment with good food at good prices! Atmosphere: Food selection & taste: Service: Price: I'm not sure if would be fair to give 4 starts based on the above, though, because I wasn't to rate it for what it is, not for what something else is. Overall, I give it a 4.5! Vegetarian friendly: yes (lacto-ovo)

If you want a great burger--whether classic or a bit more eclectic-- some crispy tots, a fantastic soft pretzel with cheese, or the very best chili around, this is the place. Drinks flow continuously, and the bar conversation is always good. Atmosphere: A relaxed, laid-back vibe--especially when the windows are open. We enjoy the extra bar seating, and the back patio is a great spot as well. Staff: One of the best parts of Sneaky's is the people. It's always nice being recognized as a familiar face, and the entire team is consistently friendly and welcoming. A special shout-out to Jason for his command and control of the chaos on super busy nights--Jason multitasks effortlessly and keeps everything running smoothly. In my opinion, dealing with the public is an art form, and Jason is Sneaky's Bob Ross. Heather, Peyton, Dany, Alex, Rainey, and the rest of the crew are also fantastic. Yes, the food is great--but it's the staff that keeps us coming back. Sneaky's owners (Casey and Tyler) have not only reimagined what a great burger-and-beer spot can be, they have surrounded that food and drink with a staff that makes you feel like your with family. Well done guys.

In addition to the sweet treats, one of the highlights of stopping by and even driving by, is reading their marque. The messages are always, witty or supportive of another local business. The chocolate ice cream with flakes of solid chocolate and pieces of strawberry made my day.
