5/5 After being closed for nearly five years, I was excited to see Schatzes reopen and it definitely did not disappoint! It's great to see a Belleville favorite back and serving delicious food again. The restaurant recently reopened after extensive renovations while bringing back many of the classic menu favorites. I ordered the Meat Lovers Pizza and the Schatze Wings, and both were excellent. The pizza was loaded with toppings--pepperoni, sausage, ham, and bacon with plenty of melted cheese and a perfectly crispy crust. Every bite was flavorful and fresh. The Schatze Wings were just as impressive. They were meaty, cooked perfectly, and coated in a delicious sauce that had the right amount of flavor without overpowering the chicken. They paired perfectly with the ranch. The atmosphere feels welcoming, and it's exciting to have this local staple back in the community. If you've been wondering whether it's worth checking out since the reopening, the answer is absolutely yes. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu! It's a remodeled PRIOR Schatze's. With slightly better food but worse service. It's obvious that this is THE FIRST "Bar/Kitchen the owner has ever attempted to run. You can't dye a goat's coat a different color and make it a "NEW goat"!! Doesn't work that way. There's a reason the prior bar went OUT OF BUSINESS...and it WASN'T because it needed paint a new fixtures!!! They need to hire someone(not related to the owner) that can Manage a bar and HAS YEARS of quality EXPERIENCE...if they don't want to be closed in a year or two!! read more

Phone doesn't work. Online ordering doesn't work. I want a place to order a breakfast burrito on my way to work early, but waiting 10 minutes in the restaurant isn't an option. Morning cook didnt seem to have a clue. After ten minutes I didn't want to wait anymore for a "to go" 9.99 burrito that has no meat. Definitely not prepared. If you listen to KQQZ or KZQZ (both on the AM dial), you've likely heard those annoying Schatze's commercials on the air. Schatze's advertises that they are Belleville's "center for nightlife" and they have the best food deals, among other things. They got the food part right, at least! I gave this place a lunch visit today and I got the famous half-pound burger, fries and potato salad. All at super prices, I mean very similar to Fast Eddie's. But I knew there was a catch. The food was great, except I wasn't really taken by the potato salad. You had to order it at the counter, which was fine. Drink purchases are required with every menu item, which, again is very similar to Fast Eddie's. They don't care if its alcohol or not. Drink orders were at the bar, and there were no free refills of anything. So, about this place? I'd say its a laid back, dive bar. Others have told me its a biker bar. Atmosphere and service were great, but my only complaint was the smell. The bathroom smelled like a sewer, and it wasn't until later in my visit the smell went its way into the bar. I'm surprised nobody got up and said something. I would have, but I didn't want to be the vibe-killer. Like I said, Schatze's is very similar to Fast Eddie's - but there are differences. Both have very reasonable food prices, and Schatze's has special deals at different times of the week. Also, Schatze's is smaller and they actually take plastic. Not so sure about the clientele though. I can see Schatze's being a nightlife place, but only for the "35 and up" age group. I don't know if hipsters, legal college kids hang out here, but I can sense it not happening anytime soon. read more

This is a "dive bar" so do not expect ties and table clothes. It is an imitation of Fast Eddies, but on a smaller scale. It has a similar atmosphere, but less crowds which means faster service. The food offering is similar in price (affordable) and quality as Fast Eddies. If you love peel and eat shrimp, you will love this place. Drinks are good and reasonably priced. After reading some of the other reviews, keep in mind that it is not a family, sit down eatery so do not expect that. Just expect to go in, relax, and have a good time. (July 2019) read more

Schatze's is a neighborhood bar that's been in existance for as long as I can remember. It's a small joint, with a cozy bar, occupied by rowdy locals! The bar maids and waitresses are friendly. The food is, well, bar food. And for bar food, it's great! Their burgers are awesome, and their onion rings are great! They have lunch/dinner specials that just can't be touched, price-wise! Last week I had a pork steak plate, with two sides (cole slaw and beans), for $4.99! The also serve peel-and-eat shrimp, for .35 each. I know Fast Eddie's shrimp are cheaper, but Schatze's sells only jumbo shrimp, and they are huge! Schatze's features entertainment on Wednesdays and on the weekend. Usually Karaoke, or a live band. The place is small, and when the entertainment is happening, the place gets crowded quick! They have an outdoor patio, but usually full of the smoking crowd! Okay, Schatze's is a dive. But it's a great dive! The place is popular with bikers, but I wouldn't call it a "biker bar". Nevertheless, it's a nice scooter stop after a long day in the saddle. Definitely a place to go for a quick bite, and ice-cold beer! TV abound, so not a bad place to catch a Blues or a Cards game! read more

Cute bar. Bathroom need to be cleaned. Especially the men's when you can walk by it and the " perfumes" wafting out could kill a cow dead in it's tracks. The patrons seem nice enough. It is a biker bar but not a hells angels type. Drinks watered down more cranberry then vodka but the food was AWESOME some of the best wings I have ever had. Smokey spicy goodness. The band that night was well a bunch of mid life crisers thinking they could sing. People started walking out. They were awful. read more

Definitely the cheapest place to eat! You have to buy a drink (doesn't have to be alcohol) for their food. I went one day when their burgers were 50 cents, for real meat! The place itself is a dive, but the service is decent. It does take a while for your food to be prepared as you receive your food in order, however, you can sit at a table and wait. Lunchtime is kid friendly. They even have one high chair in the place. For me it was an order of french fries, a hot dog, and some chili which is decent with one drink for a total of $4.70 you just can't beat the price! read more

This bar is awesome we stop by at least once a week on the bikes they have motorcycle parking as well stopped by yesterday had a couple of tacos they are my new favorite as far as there food goes they also have the gambling machines if your into that Misty is the bar tender she does a great job and Thursday nights they have karaoke. Went for the Thursday afternoon and night karaoke after hearing the radio ads several months ago. The staff is friendly and nice, Stephanie was particularly nice, though it was weird having to put food and drinks on separate tabs. The fish sandwich I had was good, though not inspiring. DJ John was a nice guy to sing with. The décor is straight out of decades past. Men's room was clean (no smell I could detect, though it was still only afternoon) but in disrepair. Main room was clean, too, but also showing signs of needing renovation and maintenance. Seemed to be an old person's bar more than anything, which on the bright side makes for a peaceful environment. The thought occurs that it wouldn't hurt to renovate--perhaps brighten the place up, and integrate things so food and drink can be put on one tab. Worth going to if you're in the neighborhood and want to sing karaoke, as they have it Sunday-Thursday. read more

When it comes to catching a quick drink or keeping a barstool warm all night long schatzes is one establishment you must consider spending your time and coin. The food is way more than what you would expect for the price and believe it or not, it's delicious. Think of it as "Fast Eddies" but in your neighborhood. $0.39 peel and eat shrimp, $1.29 1/2 lb. cheeseburgers, the list goes on. Great staff, beautiful bartenders, and genuinely attentive security, Schatzes is worth at least three or four visits. read more

In response to misty... Maybe your waitress gave me a discount cause I payed $3.50 for my first three drinks. Also way to prove my point dear. Attitude must acceptable in your service, but it makes me take my business somewhere else. I'm not sure if you read my review, but at no point was I rude at all and I also compliment the food and the girl that waited on us. It's also illegal to change the price of a drink in Illinois. A drink has to stay the same price all day, with happy hour being the exception. When I wrote the original review happy hour wasn't not allowed in Illinois. This bar sucks..my wife and I had lunch there during July around 12:30 . When we came out 45 minutes later several items were stolen off our lawncare trailer..we had parked outside in clear plain view of their video cameras. Went back inside and talked to manager. He said no one was there who knew how to review video and took our number down and said someone would call us..waited several days and heard nothing so we started to call daily and always got some stupid excuse. Then they said the guys who could watch video was on vacation. We went up there a couple days later and after waiting at the bar for 45 minutes the bar tender says well we don't know how to review previous days on our system. Bunch of liars and thieves at this bar and must be real idiots not to know how to use their own video system. read more

Misty great bartender !!! Food always good and reasonable !!!! This coming from a guy who goes to lots of bars in the metro area. Found some reviews funny. Just because folks who ride bikes go there does not make it a BIKER bar. Not a rough crowd at all. Some of the ladies seemed to think Misty and other girls dressed like tramps. I can't speak for the people there but the burger is the best you will have. I have lived in KC, South Carolina, and Dallas and I still have not found a burger that is anywhere close. To top it off, it is only $1.29! The crowd can be rough, though, so visit for lunch to stay safe. read more

It's a hole in the wall. It's a biker bar. Beware of this before going in, but since you're forewarned, put your big girl/boy pants on and go!! Not only is the good CHEAP, it's f-ing delicious. Half pound burgers for $1.29 (that's with cheese because who in the hell eats a burger sans cheese? Not this girl!) The girls have gone to a Hooters-esque look, but I don't give a damn. I'm into dudes, particularly my boyfriend, so as long as the service is good, eh. If you're a female, good-to-just decent looking, you will probably get hit on. It happens, but I've never encountered someone who I feared was trying to roofie me. I love that they have some form of entertainment most nights of the week, too. The missing star is because there are a couple regular creepers that happen to call Schatze's home. My other gripe is that the bathrooms could use attention. They were remodeled several years ago but need it again, and my final issue is only that they measure every shot. I understand they're there to make money but if you want an amaretto sour that tastes more like the drink and less like straight sour mix, you'd better order a double. This place gets crazy packed, but for the most part, there's plenty of parking between the two lots. The outdoor patio is also nice. It's heated in the winter for the smokers and is covered all year round for an additional comfortable seating option. Waitresses regularly visit the outdoor area, so being served isn't an issue. I liked Schatze's food 20 years ago when it was pretty tasty and inexpensive. In my early twenties, I would have been searching for good food at a cheap price so it was a good enough choice. So 20 years later and the bar still hasn't remodeled at all! The outside is rough, to say the least, and then when you walk in, it is super creepy. Old-fashioned,rundown and verging on simply dirty. I don't care if the food is delicious if it looks like that for the public to see, what does it look like behind closed doors, where the food is prepared. Since I have noticed over a month ago the outside neon lights that are supposed to read Schatze's are missing from the building..only a single S remains. Don't know how long they have been gone, but it sure has been over a month. Remodel inside and out and perhaps customers will not be weary on entering little- alone eating there. read more
