This is one of my preferred restaurants to go to in the area! If you are looking for a casual place to enjoy some good food, this is your place! I consistently get their fish platter and it is consistently good! The batter the cod pieces are breaded in is seasoned well and adds the best flavor. Another favorite of mine are the fish or shrimp tacos! This visit we tried the onion petals, they were good but I will always recommend their mushrooms as an appetizer choice! I ate here about 3 months ago with a group of 4 and at that time I would have recommended it highly.I was just in again over Labor Day weekend and the experience was a complete turn around. Not sure if they were short staffed or some other issue. The wait staff was all young women, who were fighting/arguing with each other to the point it interrupted service. We ordered cocktails and one person sent theirs back as it was a poor version of what it should have been. The food which was very good last time lacked on all fronts this time. The pulled pork appetizer was still very good. My Reuben sandwich was fairly greasy this time. Normally I would review this place as a pub atmosphere and food and a pleasant place to go. After several recommendations we finnaly checked out this new restaurant in Millstadt at the corner of Jefferson and Washington. I'm impressed by the atmosphere of the space. Very open and yet comfortably stylish. The menu has a nice variety and pretty fantastic prices. We had blackened grilled fish tacos and the chili. Both choices were scrumptious. Spikes will be added to our frequent dining list, and we only have one place on that list now (SushiThai in Belleville). Our server, Brad P. Provided exceptional service. Only feedback I'd give to the food prep team would be to make the serving temperature of the chili a bit hotter. read more

The only reason I didn't rate this place TWO stars is because of the awesome server Nicholas. He'd only been there 2 days, but did an GREAT job. Some of the wait staff was wearing their masks under their chins. Hubby ordered the fish tacos, and it was nice that they offered the fish fried, grilled, or blackened. He thought they were pretty good. The creamy Baja sauce that came with them (he requested it on the side) was AWESOME! My pulled pork on the other hand was the pits. It was supposed to be served with Carolina BBQ sauce, which I didn't taste or see. The pork was way overdone and extremely dry. The slaw had a good tang to it, but couldn't save the pulled pork. The leftover creamy Baja sauce made it edible. The fries were good. Nicholas made me 2 cocktails, both of which were excellent. Not overly impressed with the food, so probably won't be back. read more

Terrible service on a slow night. Had to pay $1 extra for a tiny extra dipping sauce for onion rings and $2 for an extra marinara sauce when original order didn't come close to having enough sauce. Pulled pork sandwich was very good but rest of plate was bad. Cold fries and a tiny cup of slaw was disappointing. Getting horsey sauce on side instead of on the patty melt sandwich cost an extra $1. Really? Wondered if asking them to bring us the catsup bottle added to the bill too. This was my first visit but honestly don't see anything there to ever go back. read more

A hidden gem! Great bar food. I love their fish tacos. Their burgers are pretty good too. I like that they run some seafood specials, like shrimp and oysters, which is super rare for this area of the landlocked Midwest. I'll be honest, the food landscape in Illinois is pretty bland. If the average restaurant was a color, it would be beige. But not Spike's! My husband and I came here Monday and I immediately decided to come back soon! We had wings, fries, fish tacos, and the deluxe calzone. Spike's must have some voodoo magic bc everything was hot and delicious! The wings managed to stay hot until we ate the very last one! Fish tacos are usually either a disaster or a tasty treat, one of the most difficult items to execute...but these were perfect! We sat at the bar and our server was friendly without being intrusive. Like I said, I couldn't wait to come back so I ate at Spike's again on Wednesday (just two days after our initial visit). I brought my 13 yo daughter and she was super impressed as well. She had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. I tasted it and the patty was delicious and cooked expertly. Juicy enough to make your mouth water without making the bun a soggy mess. As a Texan, I was hopeful about the pork tacos but skeptical. It was ridiculously yummy!!! THIS is what pulled pork should taste like. Cooked low and slow and without some gross messy sauce that you didn't ask for slathered on it. We sat on the patio and had such a wonderful lunch. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. My entire family will be coming back to Spike's for dinner tonight. We cannot get enough of this place and the only bad thing I have to say is I wish we would've discovered this place sooner as we are moving this summer. As a military family we rely heavily on reviews, I hope this review helps anyone looking for a superior food experience. Sorry no food pics, we ate it too quickly! I will continue to try and hope for improvement, because I live nearby and I really like 'pub' food. I have eaten here three times. Their fried fish is pretty good, but their fish tacos not so much. Their burger is really just a burger, not a nicely charred, steak-like burger one expects from a good pub menu. Fries are just okay. The biggest disappointment was a steak sandwich which was small, flat, low on flavor and tough as shoe leather. Probably the best thing I ate here was the Bam Bam Shrimp appetizer, which was crispy and flavorful--but even that seemed a little skimpy. Come on, Spike, step it up! We were hungary on a Friday at 2pm and stopped at Spike's for the first time. We were greeted as we came in a were placed at a table in this very spacious new pub. We were brought our drinks in a timely manner and had their some pub pickles that were delicious. They have a unique menu with numourus taco choices. Located in an older commercial area of Belleville. Bartender was courteous and greeted everyone that came through the door. Lots of regulars during lunch time. I ordered the fried crawfish po-boy. Came here for lunch today, even though the wait for the food was long... when it did come out, it was delicious! Fries were fresh, my spicy chicken sandwich was good & we left there full and satisfied! Don't let the "our food took to long" comment scare you away. There was a new cook, and our waitress Alexis was so sweet and kind about it, when she came out to explain. We weren't upset at all and actually tipped her way more just because of her kind gesture! Excellent food and service for a good price! The bar is a small town bar where everyone seemed to know each other. Friendly place. Customer Service was great...my waiter was friendly and always around making sure things were good. Now to the food! I had the Cuban. I eat Cubans frequently and this was 1st or 2nd best ever! House smoked pulled pork as the base was amazing. BBQ sauce was excellent and a little twist from the typical Cuban. First let me say I like the vibe of this place. Very friendly. We often go there to eat. We've tried many items on the menu but I seem to gravitate to the large chicken sandwich. When they say large, they mean it. On one occasion, the server suggested I get some buffalo wing sauce with pickles and onions. That's all I order now. Did I mention the beers are friggin cold all the time? We ended up there one night after bar hopping. We needed some food in us and the server, who had a shot with us, suggested the calzone. Spikes is fantastic! We all had different dishes, and each was fantastic. We waited a little bit, but it was worth it. The bartender was also our waiter, and he was very attentive and sweet. The bartender was very kind and gave us info on their hours & busy nights since we are new to the area. He was attentive and fast. I am disappointed in the food and especially in the owner and his lack of customer service. Tonight was our second time dining here even though we were not impressed with our first visit. We ordered the pub pickles that were extremely salty and over cooked for our liking. There is NO food options for kids so I ordered a steak sandwich for our daughter and explicitly explained to the server please nothing on it but the steak and fry's. It came out with everything on it including a creamy horseradish sauce on it. I didn't send it back because the food was dropped and the server was gone before we could even say we still don't have silverware. We tried to flag somebody down, unsuccessfully, so I got up and went to the hostess stand myself to get us flatware, scrape off everything and begged my daughter to just eat it. The waitress brought the bill and didn't ask about the meal or comment on why we did not touch the pickles. I paid the bill and decided because I have lived my entire life in Millstadt, I wanted to share with the owner my concerns. I was told the owner was in the office, so I knocked and tried to explain why we had a bad experience and wanted to ask for some kid options on the menu as Millstadt is a small town community with a lot of families. He listened to me for about two minutes, in which he said that he didn't have a kids menu because he didn't want kids there, and when I said I didn't know if we would be back he (THE OWNER) said "then get the f*#k out" I was taken by disbelief that I was just told this but he followed up by telling me right where to take my suggestions and complaints. I own a business and I was professional and not bitching in public or asking for my money back from him, I just wanted to share our experience. We will not be back (EVER) and I will now share my experience with all my friends and family. I hope you understand sir that I did not deserve the way you treated me and I hope this ensures that you do not treat anyone else that way. read more

Saw the write-up in the Belleville newspaper yesterday and decided to give Spike's a try with my wife. Spike's has a very nice deck out front that would be enjoyable on a cool evening. All the parking is out back and we had no trouble finding a space. Our server was a very nice young lady. She was wearing knee-high boots which had to be uncomfortable for her at some point. There is free WiFi which worked well (open network). We sat next to one of the HDTVs which had an excellent picture. I ordered a Bud LIght (very cold) on tap and my wife ordered a Diet Coke. The menu has a fair amount of variety. Walls are decorated with jerseys from local sports teams. I ordered the fish tacos (featured in the Belleville newspaper review) and my wife ordered the Deluxe Calzone. It took a while for the food to arrive. Both entrees were served hot. All food was served in plastic baskets lined with paper. The biggest challenge to eating the two items is fluid management. The Deluxe Calzone was particularly juicy. When my wife cut it open, it kinda ran all over the inside of the basket and pooled at the bottom with no place to escape. Near as we could tell, it was from the tomatoes in the calzone. The crust got very damp and fell apart. My wife finished it with a knife and fork. It was well nigh impossible to pick up. The fish tacos were a much better choice, but they also had a bit of an excess fluid problem, but not as much as the Deluxe Calzone. The diner must race to finish the tacos before the soft taco wraps fall apart from moisture. The tacos were well-seasoned and had melted cheese inside. The fish were solid tenderloins and were very tasty. When the server came to present the bill, my wife brought up the problem with the calzone and how it might have been better served on some kind of plate so it would drain better. She said simply that everything was served in a basket. The fish tacos were apparently really popular. The cook came out of the kitchen and announced to our server that they were out of fish and would not have more until the owner came back tomorrow with more. Now, if I were in food management, I would get what I needed that night to keep serving the fish tacos -- particularly since they were a featured item in the newspaper. We're up in the air about returning to Spike's. I think they are trying fairly hard and are deserving of your consideration. read more

Came here on a beautiful Saturday when my husband and I wanted to sit on a patio for lunch and yelp hooked me up with Spikes! Then came back the week after on a Friday afternoon when my best friend came to visit on vacation. Their sangrias are outstanding! The fish tacos are absolutely to die for, although they seemed a bit more spicy than the 3rd time I had them. And they must have been busy because my husband called to get a to-go order so he could take me some for dinner at work and they took an hour. One hour ticket times are not exactly ideal, however, I have been there several times and that is the only time we've ever had any sort of issue so I'll just chalk that up to mistakes happen. read more

This has been one of the best pubs I've been to by far, the people are nice, the food is AMAZING, and they have outdoor seating as well, which is great when the weather's nice, and if you haven't tried the burgers, my god they are so delicious, a burst of flavor.
