I brought my father out to Spike's to try it for the first time with him. We were kindly greeted and told that we could sit anywhere we liked. Pretty chill atmosphere, right off the bat - no uniforms for the servers just comfy clothing. We chose one of the rooms, just opposite the bar. Alexis quickly greeted us and served us our drinks. As we waited for her to come back to take our order, I admired the cool decor. It's very farm-esque, of course, as Millstadt is a farming town. Paintings of farm animals, vintage Coca Cola signs, etc. The music was lightly playing near the bar and it was pretty busy in there but not loud. Big screens above the bar played racing and the TV's were on near us but I could barely hear the sound, just closed captioned. I appreciated the fact that I could really enjoy my time with my dad and be able to hear him. I ordered a cup of chili and Cesar salad combo. I was very impressed with the chili! It's a go-to and if the chili impresses- I'm bound to try other things at any restaurant. It had just the right amount of kick and great flavor. The Cesar salad was off to me; it was drenched in Cesar salad dressing, the croutons at the bottoms and very little lettuce. However, the flavor of the dressing impressed, it was just too much for me. I would definitely order the salad again, but be sure and ask for the dressing on the side.. which is totally my mistake because I usually do and forgot this time. Overall, it was very tasty. My dad, being from the south, knows his gumbo! He ordered it to try, along with the pulled pork sandwich and fries. From first bite, he kept saying how good everything was. He said the gumbo was probably the best he's had from any restaurant. He was just as impressed with the pork and said it was fantastic. The guy isn't even into sauces and complimented that as well. The fries were crispy, that goodness because the guy doesn't play with crap fries. :) Overall, the service was great - Alexis was excellent! A sweet young lady, super fast and attentive. And it's always an A+ when I see a waitress be super kind with my dad. Well, done, Alexis! When we were ready to pay, she was busy with the manager and the nice bartender gal came over and took our check - it was nice to not leave us waiting. Very mindful staff, good customer service & that speaks volumes! Flavorful, all around! Pretty cool place. We will be back to try more on the menu. GREAT JOB, Spike's! read more

If you enjoy tasty bar food, this place hits the spot. The Cuban sandwich and Reuben are some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Their take on the Cuban sandwich is even better than the authentic ones I've had in Miami, they're just that good. We've been here at least 5 times and the service has always been amazing and they are very accommodating to our children wanting to walk around with us to see all of the different TVs. Today, our waitress Ariel really made our lunch special when our kids wanted to pretend to be Olympic athletes. Every time we've visited we have had consistently great service. In our experience, it's been very family friendly during lunch, but assume it's more of a bar crowd in the evenings. read more

So, a mixed review here. I ordered the day's special, blackened crawfish tacos, and they were DELICIOUS. My drink was tasty too. The reason for the downgrade in stars is that others at the table were charged extra for "basket" orders of sides that they didn't order, nor were they on the menu. Just not good business in my mind. Is that a server issue? Or a kitchen issue? Not sure, but not good. Also, they're unable to turn the air conditioning down for some reason? Loud. read more

This was our first time at this great place in Millstadt. We met up with some friends on a Monday night and it was not crowded at all. We thought the food prices were very reasonable. Stopped in for lunch today because, well because I was hungry and there wasn't much else around. So glad I did! I availed myself of their fish tacos (I chose grilled over fried or blackened.) My bride went with fried shrimp tacos. One order was two tacos. All sides are extra, at lunch at least. We agreed they were excellent. I was not sorry I went with grilled. We also ordered "Red fries." They are your basic crinkle cut fries with a reddish seasoning. Two thumbs up for these bad boys! Spikes is, I am told, a hopping place after hours. Came for happy hour with a group. Service was attentive and prompt. Ordered a side of sweet potato fries for and was presented with a bill for a basket which was double the price on the menu and made them pricey. Nothing on the menu which mentioned " baskets" vs. "sides". When I mentioned this to the waitress her response was "sorry, oh well". The same happened to another member of our group, same response. I had some business to attend to, we are seldom in Millstadt but this place is worth the occasional drive (1hr). I had the blackened fish tacos and although they were messy that's to be expected, they were very good, 2nd best fish tacos I've ever had. My husband had the shaved ribeye sandwich and the onion rings. He really liked the ribeye sandwich but wasn't a fan of the onion rings. I thought they were good but I think they weren't what he was expecting as they were just chucks of battered onions. I didn't catch the name of our waitress but she was a young blonde gal that was attentive and friendly. Overall a great place.
