I'm not sure what everyone is talking about... If the food here were a little more authentic, it would be so awesome. Service was okay, cocktail was good (I had the Same Old). It felt promising because it smelled strongly like fish sauce when I walked in but perhaps they just leave some out for scent because, the food had no depth in flavor. Granted, my dining partner and I had green and panang curry and they were sugar water with curry flavoring. I don't think we needed another Thai restaurant in terms of the sense since chicago is inundated with them but the food isn't made for anyone who enjoys the layers of flavor in asian cuisine it seems. The Neua Nam Tok is amazing, I get it every time and it never disappoints. We also get the Khao Soi Gai (golden curry) and love it as well. Great atmosphere and delicious drinks too. Highly recommend this place! read more

Came for the Phat Thai around opening at 5pm on a weekday. Portion was a little bit on the small side compared to all the images up here on Yelp. Maybe a little imbalanced on the noodle to bean sprout ratio. Shrimp was undercooked. Flavors were pretty good, though. Might be worth trying again in the far future, but will not be part of my regular thai rotation. read more

Awesome addition to the Roscoe Village dining scene which frankly has suffered in the past from being just a bit dull. Not your average Thai. This is more creative, a bit more pizzazz if you will. The flavors are the star of the show here. I really love the wings but kind of wish they were cut up like buffalo wings instead of served whole. Just a better presentation that way. But you have to try the Neua Nam Tok, a brilliant mouth-watering steak dish with mint; love the acidity. Panang curry excellent as well. Plus, the owner is super cool; and I would say that even had he not gifted me a beer for no particular reason! We've made Same Same part of our regular takeout rotation, and if you like creative Thai food with tons of flavor, you should too. read more

By far the best Thai I've had in Chicago. I got the tom yum soup and the green curry with chicken. Both tasted great. Clear, balanced, and vibrant flavors. That said, there eggplant in my curry was slightly undercooked. The overall quality made up for it and earned the 5th star. read more

Awesome and energetic little hole in the wall vibe but most dishes we tried missed a couple marks on flavor. The Ke Mao was delicious. We asked for it without egg and they brought it out with egg. It then took a very long time to bring out the replacement dish. To their credit, they volunteered to remove it from our bill. We also ordered the green curry with chicken and Kao Soi. Both of these dishes are typically very rich in flavor but these dishes were very underwhelming. Lastly, we had a veggie panang curry with tofu. It arrived without tofu. We were too hungry to complain at this point but it was very good. Nice spicy kick to boot as well. We live across town so not sure we will go back, unless we want to check out their outdoor space this summer, but it is worth trying at least once. If you're lactose intolerant, I would ask if they use milk in their curries before ordering. We discovered the hard way that they substituted coconut milk with regular milk in one or both of the curries. read more

We went on a Wednesday night. There were two tables going when we were seated. Ambiance is cute. Music nice. Service was excellent. Ordered the papaya salad which was ok. Panang curry was ok but missing something, maybe could be sweeter? It seemed a bit "starchy" as was the phar kaphrao (basil chicken) or as some other reviewer stated, "goopy". However, It was very, very salty. The portions are very generous though. The fried chicken seems to be their star item. We may go back to try that and the pork ribs. I've been to many, many Thai restaurants (and even gone to Thailand) but I have to say the food here doesn't seem quite authentic. I will follow up... read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but the phat Thai noodles was awful. Noodles were poorly cooked. Shrimp was barely cooked. Not good. Also ordered the chicken tenders. First of all- the food is INCREDIBLE. We have had almost everything on the menu and we are continuously impressed. We have only done takeout (thanks covid) but it is always hot and fresh. Highly recommend: hat yai, phat thai, phat kee mao, both currys, geow tod, phat kaphrao, wings, and Chinese broccoli. We recently had a wonderful interaction with the owner- the takeout time was way longer than usual due to Roscoe blocked off for street dining. We got multiple apologies, offered free drinks, and the following day we received a voicemail from the owner apologizing again and thanking us for our business. Completely amazing. Hands down, best Thai food I've had in Chicago and the best restaurant in Roscoe Village. Creative, amazing flavors, generous portions, fairly priced. The owner is super cool, my brother, who lives in LA, and I went in there recently for carry out and they were late with the food. I didn't care but my bro was running the marathon and wanted eat early and was being kind of a dick to the owner about it. Owner came out and explained there was some kind of issue in the kitchen. totally understandable with all the staffing issues. Anyway we waited like 15-20 more minutes, he comes back out with 2 beers and announced he had taken half off our bill. and this is the second time he has given me beer. then we go home and just demolish all of the food, it was so good. my bro even admitted it was some of the best thai food he'd had, and him coming from LA you know that means something. read more

Not authentic Thai food, but they were still pretty good. I was really excited to try the Viet style wings, but they were probably their weakest dish. I think they needed more kick to them, perhaps add more fish sauce and garlic. The pickles that were served with the wings were a bit different than I'm used to (Korean). It was way too sour and could use more sugar. Other than that, great cocktails, and I liked their phat thai and khao soi gai... But I wouldn't spend $13-$15 for them when you can get the real, authentic version for a much lower price. read more

I'm so glad my girlfriend and I decided to try SameSame. Because of COVID we sat outside where they had tables appropriately social distanced. Unfortunately we had already had a few cocktails already down the street. So we went straight into dinner and everything was fresh and delicious. First we had a fresh spicy salad. We both had the Tom Yum soup and it was yummy! We decided to just split the Pad Thait. It was delicious and they give you a generous portion! Very lucky to have found this refreshing Thai restaurant in Chicago. The restaurant's flavorful and original flavors are only complimented by the casual and fun vibe. My group thoroughly enjoyed the spiced fries (not an authentic Thai fare but who needs reasons to eat fries). The Green Curry was the highlight of my dinner - delicately spiced , simmered to perfect consistency and loaded with fresh vegetables and herbs. Can't wait to go back to try more dishes. read more

Well, I'm pissed we're moving out of the neighborhood soon. This place adds a unique element not previously available on Roscoe. We had some cocktails, the pad thai, and the Buddah bowl with steak. All were excellent. Nice local craft brew selection as well. The environment has that laid back yet energetic vibe you might find nearest in Logan Square. read more
