If you love food and the outdoors, this is a great spot to visit while in the Safari Park. With reasonably priced food and drinks, you can't pass it up when wandering the Leemur Walkway. They offer burgers, fries and nachos as well as churros! What else can you ask for!? With the southern end view of the mountains, it's ideal if you just want to forget about the worries of the world - even if only for a few minutes. With many tables available as well as shady spots, you can expect me to spend a little extra time here at the terrace. I'll be back for sure as I live food and one of a kind views of the San Pasqual Valley. read more

This restaurant is located near the lemurs. I love this restaurant because it has a lot to offer! Food: The food is great! Is it perfect? No but it's not terrible. I would totally eat here again. They have everything from tacos and burritos to burgers. Location: The location is insane because it's near the lemurs and a short walk to the giant balloon. So it is near a lot of great entertainment! View: The view is incredible from here!! It's all outdoor seating and it was never crowded. They have one of the best views of any restaurant in the zoo!! The only downside is how dirty the tables were. The guy working this area was working very hard to clean it. However most of the tables were dirty. After a suggestion from one of the Park employees (who better to ask?), this was our lunch choice. Also, while standing in line, waiting to order, the people in front of me were Park members, so that was a good sign too. The Bacon Cheeseburger was pretty good. Unfortunately, the thick, dry bun was the downside. It was way too big for the burger and was a bit in the stale side. A typical grocery store, 8 to a bag bun with seeds. The fries, however, were great. Thick AND crispy with a touch of seasoning. The kids meal we got was the Chicken Fingers. It came with a choice of drink (Milk) and a nice small, souvenir cup and carrying bag. Also included were a small bag of carrots and one of crackers. No toy ;) While not too terribly expensive, the 10% discount we got helped out. The ordering was quick and everything was ready in just a few minutes. Samburu Terrace is located in San Diego Safari Park and if you're in for South of the Border flavors this place is it, and the meals are pretty decent. Also, you can get a few beers on tap. I ordered the "Baja Burger" ($13). What got me choosing this burger is the bacon, pepper jack cheese and jalapeño aioli. It wasn't too bad, it tasted okay. It would've been nice to have the cheese melted. There wasn't as much spicy kick from the jalapeño aioli spread. The burger patty itself was beefy. The French fries that came with it was addicting, they were steak fries style and that was a plus. The other order was the "Chicken Fiesta Salad" ($12). In the crispy tortilla bowl is crisp lettuce, topped with citrus marinated chicken, pico de gallo, black beans, sour cream, and cheese. Next time I would probably choose this over the burger option. I did like the spicy ranch sauce that was provided off the side. The wait time for our orders took about 10 minutes before the pager went off for pickup. If you're at this part of the park Samburu is a solid three star option. read more

I came here to eat lunch since my daughter and I got hungry. We decided to take a break to eat here. I looked at the menu and decided to go with the bacon cheeseburger which came with French fries. To drink I got a lemonade. If you purchase the cups, refills are $1.00 which is a good deal. I had the cup from the zoo. My daughter went with the cheese quesadilla kid's meal which came with a drink. They give you a buzzer if the lines are long. It took about 5 minutes or so until our food was ready. The burger was okay. The buns were huge and not even grilled. They were served as is. The meat was ok and everything else in it. The fries were tasty, crunchy and bigger than your normal fries. I was hungry so I ate everything. I washed my food down with lemonade. Very refreshing. Just an okay place. Prices were fair. We were nearby so this place was just okay. read more

You know what? it's not bad! Considering the other zoo, safari, and amusement park food I've had - I was expecting this to be really overpriced and taste really bad. But it turned out ok! We ordered: chicken tenders, the bacon cheeseburger, chicken nachos, chicken quesadilla, and a kids meal. The bacon cheeseburger actually had some flavor and wasn't dry - both to my surprise. The chicken tenders and chicken nachos were pretty standard for something you might get at a chilis or tgif. The prices were around the same too. The only item I didn't really like was the chicken quesadilla - the chicken was dry and they didn't really "toast" up the quesadilla. So for what it was - not bad! And plenty of seating in the back with shade right by the children's play area! Bathroom nearby as well. read more

Very slow service without labeling where to order and where to pick up. I ordered nachos while my husband went for their chicken quesadilla. Once we ordered, the cashier didn't tell us we had to go to another window for pick up (nor were there signs), so we stood there until she acted like we were in the way. It wasn't until a customer told us we had to go to a window on the other side of the building to get our food that we moved. Then the wait began. It didn't help that it was hot, but it did take an additional 15 minutes to get our food. I could understand the wait if there was a mad rush of people, but we were one of two customers present at the time. My nachos sat under the heating lamp and grew soggy while waiting for the cook to prepare a very simplistic quesadilla that lacked any seasoning. I understand they try to cater to kids so they keep the spices down, but at least offer condiments to put a spicy kick to one's food if so desired. While the prices weren't bad for park food, the taste was just bleh. It did, however, do the trick and starve off our hunger for a few hours. Order your food and then wait for your buzzer to go off. Plenty of shady tables to sit at. Free refills the same day when you buy their souvenir cup! What we got: Nacho Supreme ($9.25): a plate of nachos! It had chili, jalapenos, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, and onions. Not a bad plate of nachos actually. They weren't skimpy on the ingredients and every chip was covered in something. Fish Taco Plate ($10.50): I thought it was going to come with just one taco since the menu item was singular...but it came with 2! There is some level of expectation for less than stellar food when eating in a theme park, but this was just disgusting. The "tacos" were taquitos covered in salsa and guac and the chicken tenders were so tasteless it was like eating cardboard. Pack a lunch and save your money. read more

We spent this past Mother's Day at the Safari Park and so glad we did since it wasn't too crowded and the cloudy overcast made for a comfortable day to roam around and not break into a sweat! After roaming around the Park, the grown-ups and kids in our party of seven needed something to snack on. We happened to walk past Samburu Terrace as we made our way back from the tram ride we enjoyed. Since it was the first food spot, it made our decision to dine there easy. Although my husband and I have annual passes to the Zoo & Safari Park, this was our first time dining at the Park. I've had some lackluster food at the San Diego Zoo last year, so I set the bar really low with my expectations for our recent meal at Samburu Terrace. We shared the chicken nachos which was $9.99. Our friends had the fish taco plate, chicken tenders for the kids and the chicken fiesta salad. With a 32 ounce soda and my 10% annual pass holder discount, it came out to $53 and change. When the food came out, everything looked really appetizing. When we took our first bite into the nachos, we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The grilled chicken was juicy and for the ten bucks we paid, we were glad it came with generous dallops of sour cream and guacamole. The kids devoured the chicken tenders and our friends loved the fiesta salad (so much he didn't find it necessary to add the dressing). Overall we walked away very satisfied with our meal. The food was made to order and it actually tasted good. Based on older reviews of this same café, I'm guessing they revamped their menu and changed cooks(?) since our meals here was nothing close to the bad experiences others shared in their reviews. We plan on going back to Safari Park a few more times and know that when we're hungry we can count on Samburu Terrace to provide a satisfying meal. read more

Bacon cheeseburger was small, lukewarm, overcooked, and $11! ($10.50 plus tax) The cheese on it is a cold piece of American cheese. The bacon was no better. If this bacon cheeseburger had been sitting out for a long time, they should've cooked us a new one. That was probably the worst hamburger I've ever had. The Bacon Cheeseburger was way overcooked, and the buns were cold. At least the fries that came with the order was decently seasoned, but still, it didn't make up for that sorry excuse for a burger. We had lunch here yesterday and it was fine to me and pretty good in my opinion. It was at a great location where once you start going thru the park, you will get hungry at this point and lucky its there to get food. Yes, its pricey, but its like that at all other amusement parks. The kids meal is pretty well priced at $7.99 and it includes a souvenir cup, pin, and small lunch bag which is pretty nice. I ordered 2 for my 2 kids and I ended up eating some of their food from the kids meal because I knew they probably couldn't finish it anyway, so the overall cost of our lunch wasn't too bad. Service was excellent and food was ready fairly quickly. read more
