I like The Wave. This place has been around since I was in High School, so damn near 30 years now. Back then, it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. Now, it's a pretty good place to bring the kids for a few hours of cool swimming on a hot day. The park is small, limited to a large pool for regular swimming, a splash pad for younger kids, a three story tower with multiple slides, a quick flowing lazy river, and the aforementioned wave machine. On crowded days, you can end up brushing elbows in the water with strangers, and it can be a 10 minute wait for a slide. But, even in the middle of summer, I never felt like it was too packed to cause any problems. Prices are reasonable. Around $70 will get you a season pass that will let you come all summer. And, if you're like me, there's a $11 Happy Hour option that let's you hang out for a couple of hours before the pool closes ... a perfect once or twice a week choice to bring young kids that want to swim, but you don't want them baking too long in the sun. The pool itself is as clean as you'd expect; the surrounding area has some wear and tear, but nothing too bad considering the age of the place. And all of the lifeguards are well trained, very attentive, and still friendly while doing the unenviable task of making sure people don't get overly rowdy. All-in-all, The Wave isn't as grand as a Raging Rivers or the water park at LegoLand, but it's still well priced and fine enough to keep your kids cool and happy. The Wave Waterpark has been a locals staple attraction in Downtown Vista for quite some time. It's a very family & friend friendly & park. It's not the biggest waterpark that I've been too but it has many of the basic fun features to it. I personally enjoy the sports pool. It has a lazy river, tower slides, splash zones, seating, concession stand, and cabana rental options. They have splash camp and swimming classes available ranging from 6 months to adult classes. I mean everyone should know how to swim! Come check out their calendar for specific events happenings Whether you go once or get a season ticket pass (slight discount on individual ticket price when purchasing a family pack tickets) you'll have fun. The season pass also includes moonlight amphitheater deals and access to your Burch Aquarium visit in September & October! Rumors is that this place has been under evaluation over the past years and has come close to being on the chopping block for the city. I don't think it's a good idea to keep taking away community spaces that kids and adults can play and have fun. So my hope is that this place stays put and continues to be accessible to all who want to come here. As it's a great recreation spot! read more

Overall cleanliness is lacking. 2 slides out of order. Multiple restrooms out of order, hand sinks out of order. Place needs some serious maintenance. Lazy river is pretty murky after an hour of opening. Paint peeling off the Wave rider and floating pieces all over the place. Redeeming factor is the amount of lifeguards on duty, but the price is not justifiable for the disrepair the Wave has fallen into. read more

Nice small water park with 4 slides , but flow ride was closed for half a day and Cabana and food operation is a disaster of incompetence. We had a cabana for a birthday party with food scheduled for 1 pm, and as a result kids were planing on eating lunch there. Then they tell us it will be 1:30 once we arrived. By 1:45 no food, kids are hungry and just waiting around . I stop by and they haven't even started and are pretending that we said we were ok with 2:30. Worse, as they were preparing our food they would frequently give away food put aside for us to folks who ordered at the counter. No adults working there. Don't get the Cabana service and definitely don't count on their food service. read more

Good family experience if you keep your expectations reasonable. We took advantage of the $11 deal for two hours at the end of the day, which seems like a bargain. Very short line if you do the waterslide without a tube (decent line for the tube slides). Be ready to spend $5 for a lazy river tube, if you want one, since the free ones are hard to come by (we just floated without a tube). And $5 for a locker you can reuse, though if you're not paranoid, you could probably leave your stuff in a bag by a chair or lounge. A nice surprise was that the food was much less expensive than you'd normally pay at a water park - very reasonable. Everyone seemed nice, employees and patrons. The lifeguards are extremely attentive, and plentiful! I felt perfectly safe allowing my children (age 10-15) run off and ride the slides by themselves. It's a lovely, smaller waterpark - exactly enough attractions to keep the kids entertained, but not so big I could never find my kids for check ins and sunscreen reapplications! The food available is very reasonably priced, and even though the staff is young (and probably having their first job experience) they were polite and tried hard. This park has so much potential however for the last six years, I think only one of them all the slides were open during the summer majority of time we've gone the majority of slides have been closed down for maintenance or what not very frustrating to pay $24 for a swimming pool, I don't understand they always say they're closed for maintenance but why aren't they doing the maintenance on their off times instead of in the summer, Doesn't make sense to me. It was not a great experience. We were there on the 2nd day they opened for the summer. Aside from the swimming pool, everything else there were having some form of issues throughout the day. it wasn't too Sunny today so went to try THE WAVE WATER PARK in VISTA. I have heard about this place before but didn't get the chance to visit. But today, we tried it, the place is Calm. It wasn't that Packed or Crazy. There are only a few things to do here but I rather choose this place than a more selection of water activities to do and so famous around for people to crowd it, at least this one even it's very Simple we get to enjoy the water and not consume most of our time in a long line. For the Military and the Family and guest of the military retired or active is $13.95 per person and for none Military is $23.95 This place is not bad at all. But will see , this is our First time here , so we'll be back to see how this place in another day . But so far today our Visit went very okay . read more

Full disclosure, Birch Aquarium members got in free for July, so we hit this place up 3 x. I can see why some people left bad reviews here, it's run by 16-year-olds. Set your bar low and you will be pleasantly surprised. The good: - lifeguards everywhere. They're not distracted, your kids are safe - the wave machine. You get a boogie board and 20 seconds after heading down a wet slide and try to hang on and do tricks. It's a lot of fun, though there's a steep learning curve - the lazy river moves pretty fast and you can float around endlessly (just don't try to get out or in anywhere except the staircase - the pool is sectioned off for a shallow kids area and older kid and adult swim area - mandatory showers before entering the pool plus hot water in the shower rooms with big bathrooms - they may have summer camp here, it seemed like all these kids were clumped together - The pools and lazy river are clean The bad: - the slides (probably the major draw here) are closed indefinitely. They're not under construction they're just closed with no signs of re-opening, ever - we're under severe drought here, although this is a much better use of water than personal pools and golf courses - the food, but c'mon it's basically a theme park. Plus GOOD, they let you bring your own food in - the lines move really slow for the tube slide and the boogie board ride. Like seriously, the person is out of the way, send the next one down. It's a little inefficient and leads to shivery kids blowing in the breeze while they wait. Not that big a deal, the rides are still a fun 20 seconds and it's like 10 mins of waiting, not some 3-hour wait for a Disney ride Overall, there's a lot of fun to be had, just don't expect to be treated like royalty (or even noticed, unless you're violating a rule). Was there for a bday party. Two of the kids in our group cut their big toes on something sharp at the bottom of the lazy river. I also stepped on it! It was part of the actual construction -- a metal vent of some sort sticking out of the floor! Super unsafe. A lot of blood floating around in there from people cutting their feet on this!! Nestled in the city of Vista is this hidden gem to cool off on hot summer days. We arrived just before open time and the line was pretty long. The staff worked quickly and got everyone in. Immediately I saw lifeguards patrolling attentively and methodically. We got settled, played on the splash pad and enjoyed the fun there. My only complaint was that much larger kids and teenagers seemed to overrun the splash pad since it wasn't monitored. The food was good for the price and it was pretty quick to come out. The lazy river was fun and so was the competition pool. I want to commend the lifeguards that swiftly jumped into action when a swimmer slipped and hit their head on the side of the pool and fell in the water. I use to love coming here but I haven't been much as management shifted. However, I might try it again this summer. I have become accustomed to the LEGOLAND water park because they have a wave pool and my whole family loves that. I think the Wave has a bit of eveybting but they are lacking in growth and change. This is small in terms of a water park but it can be fun depending on what you are looking for. I always say if you are looking for family fun water park go with LEGOLAND but if you are looking for a Flow Rider then this is great. I know it often has a long line but they seem to have a bit of following here for riding. The flow rider deposits you into the little lazy river too. The 4-5 slides are fun and I would say all are fairly family friendly...some parks slides are too scary for kiddos so this is good in that department. There is a massive possibly Olympic size swimming pool and small play area for kids. The food is mediocre and the service is mostly young teens etc. I will update this if I decide to return, but it would take a lot honestly because we do have lovely options in our area now! read more

Keep an eye on Groupon before heading over. No outside food allowed but pack smart, you know what mean ;) My children outgrew this place at around 12-13 years old. $10 to rent a double-tube. There are plenty of free tunes available tho! The snack-shack has typical cafeteria food. Many bees everywhere so remember Benadryl.... I think people are a bit hard on this place, I think it's a fun location for families. It's a small local waterpark that's been around for decades. There are a ton of lifeguards on duty. All of the lifeguards were attentive and watching the crowds intensively. There were numerous lifeguards at every point. I was impressed at the staffing. The bathrooms are pretty gross and in desperate need of an update. A tile floor and new stalls for bathrooms and showers are way overdue. Please consider renovations for the facilities they really require it! There are four water slides, a lazy river and a few other features. The lazy river is crowded but just wait by the stairs for people to get out and you get a tube no problem. The splash pad for kids was a hit. We enjoyed our cabana rental for $55 with guaranteed shade and seating. It was fun and I'd be back another time. Fun experience. read more

Wish i could give less than 1 star. This facility does a miserable job of serving Vistan's that actually want to swim at the pool. They have what appears to be an excellent lap swim pool. But they NEVER open the pool for lap swimming. I can only assume that; 1) They have no interest in enabling lap swimming 2) They are incompetent (whenever I ask staff about lap swimming I am continually being told, "we don't have lifeguard staff". Or perhaps both are true. I'll continue to ride to Oceanside which has a most excellent aquatic center AND Seems to have no issues with hiring lifeguards. Vista wave = so pathetic. read more

Family centered and kid swarmed! Me and three of my friends decided to check out this small water park because of the hot weather change and we were happy it was pretty close to where we lived! It's only $20.95 for entry for the day and they're open from 10AM-4PM. We arrived at around 11:30 and the place was super busy! We really just wanted to relax on the lazy river they have (which is only more like a hyper river lol) but the entire thing is filled with kids splashing and screaming and full on swimming. You have to scavenge for a tube and make sure you don't run into anyone. The water felt great but definitely not somewhere we're you can kick back and enjoy your time. We were definitely among some of the oldest people there (aside from the adults with families). One of my friends tried to lay out and ran on the grass because all the lawn chairs are gone from people just claiming them with their stuff and not even using them and ended up getting her head stepped on by a kid running around. There are tons of lifeguards here which is great for the kids and a safe environment but it is pretty chaotic. They have cabanas available for rent and they provide every other equipment you could need to enjoy the park. Overall, this is a fun family centered place to take your kids and stay cool! If you don't have that, I definitely would steer clear of this place and just hit the beach instead. read more

A less than mediocre water park with a great price. If you are on a budget, this is your place. I paid less than $20 a person to enter this water park. Besides the good price, it has no parking fees, and has a constant simulated wave for body boarding, and a small water slide that goes into the lazy river. Here are the park's short comings. 1) No wave pool. 2) No hot food made to order. Just a very long line for chips & soda. I went to their slash camp as a CIT and over all it was a great experience. The CIT program is the same as the regular campers. So if your older and wanna be around kids your age I recommend the jr. Life Guards program. The lines for the slides are never long. The lazy river is a little but cold the pool is heated. When I was there 2 out of 4 slides where open and they where really fun. The flow rider was ok and the slide to the lazy river was fun but every time I went on I fell of at the end. Over I would definitely go and recommend it. read more

The wave water park will always be a happy core memory for my family. We had season passes for years, multiple birthday parties, lots of swimming lessons and summer camps and just an all around lovely place for moms and kiddos and families to spend their summers when the beach is too gloomy or big for the kids. The place is run by the city of Vista and well trained teens and young adults. The concession grill is delicious and the pizzas are better than you'd expect from a water park. Large clean restrooms, plenty of lockers. It's just big enough to feel like you're getting your moneys worth and small enough that the kids can run around (no sorry! No running! Walk!) and feel independent. They have day camps and year round water polo. Both my kids grew up here and both also worked here. Our whole family loves the Wave. read more

This place gets five stars, because the price is right. Two of the four big slides were closed for the day, so they lowered the admission price (which they didn't have to do). They're located in what looks like a shopping center, so parking can get tricky at times. The life guards were engaged, which made me feel good when the kids in my group ran off. One downer is that the snack bar was closed, but they weren't checking bags upon entry (maybe intentionally), so we were able to bring snacks and drinks in. If you aren't blessed enough to have a pool in your backyard or in your complex on a hot San Diego day, give this place a try. read more

My son totally loved The Wave. Being a perfect summer day and my brother living up the street from the waterpark...it was a perfect stop to cool off with a few water slides, the pool and lazy river. The entrance fee goes directly to the city of Vista. Way to make money over the summer for the city! The Wave is closed during the winter...check their website for their operating hours and seasons. Decent men's showers and changing area...rent a small locker if needed. Tons of beach chairs, also a ton of kids and people so be patient. There's a restaurant that serves burgers and hot dogs.
