Wow!!! This was a great find. The spice level is high, but addictive. The fish cake and cucumbers were the best thing I have ever eaten. The cucumber helped balance the spice of the food. I've ate at this establishment quite a few times when I lived in Fort Worth and I can't believe I haven't written a review. It is my husband and I's favorite Korean restaurant in the area. Fast Forward 4 years later driving our way from Missouri to South Padre Island, TX, we decided to stay one night in Fort Worth. We were feeling a bit nostalgic and drove around to see the old neighborhood. Then we started to talk about restaurants and Sam Won Garden came up. Guess where we ate for dinner? The place is still the same and still serves amazing Korean food that we remember. This place never disappoints. The Korean restaurants in Missouri don't even come close to Sam Won. My favorite Korean food restaurant in Fort Worth area (even compared to the ones in Arlington/Grand Prairie)!!! I always order their spicy pork bento box for lunch. It's a really good portion. It comes with their special veggie sushi rolls, kim chi, pickled cucumbers, rolled egg, fish cake, noodles , rice and your choice of meat. The kimchi was too old, fish cake was way too sweet. I liked cucumber salad and tofu stew was OK. Fried mandoo didn't have much flavor. It was frozen mandoo that you can get from Costco and fry it. I love this place...discovered it fairly recently and have been back 5 or 6 times in the past month or so. The L.A. galbi is perfectly cooked and very tender. I have had these ribs at many restaurants and these are easily some of the best I've ever had. Unlike some places, you don't need to cover these in sauces to make them taste good! Fantastic as/is. The grilled eel is also delicious but for the price you don't get a lot ($18 for a small fillet.) Definitely a special occasions kind of thing, but if it was cheaper or it came with more meat I would have it regularly. Extremely soft and with a sweet bbq-like sauce. Pork belly is a bit dry, not what I am used to but maybe that is how it's made in Korea? It was almost like bacon (not in taste.) However it's pretty tasty once you add some paste to it. Side dishes are great. Best fish cakes ever, seaweed is good but have had better elsewhere, love the noodles and zucchini, and depending on the dish you order you get a bowl of miso soup too (unless they run out!) Dumplings are typical, nothing that stands out but not bad at all. I prefer steamed, they seemed to have more flavor. Service is very good and friendly. Sometimes the food can take a little while if they're busy but it is well worth it. Overall, for some specific items, some other restaurants may do better, but for the full experience I have yet to find a place that beats this one. read more

I have lived in this area for 8 years and have tried various Korean places. This is absolutely one of the best. The owner and his family are absolutely the friendliest. During dinner they will refill your small dishes with fish cake, bean sprouts, sweet potato, and other cool treats. Today, I ate with a friend and tried their bento lunches. I had the spicy pork and it was "to die for". It came with onion rings, two pieces of kimbap roll, japchae, fish cake, miso soup, and kimchi. It also had a side of rice. Have been here several times now. Last time I took a friend who lived in Korea for several years and she pronounced it the best Korean she's had since living there. Love all the pancakes - kimchi, green bean, leeks. They're all good. My personal favorite is the spicy pork bulgogi, but recently tried the bibimbap and the galgi and oh my, now so many favorites. Most of the patrons are Koreans, so that's a good sign. Service is friendly if a tad slow. Nice that they have Korean Hite beer, but the wine offerings are not so good. I would like to see them add a coupla decent wines to the menu. This place is only 3 or 4 miles from, my house so we're becoming regulars. Worth the drive from anywhere in the metroplex though. read more

2.5 stars. The night grew dark as I woke up with a jolt in my car. Shit! I just passed out in the car while waiting for a tinder date and stood him up by accident (he came 2 minutes after I arrived. You snooze you lose! Or maybe the other way around). Of course by 9pm, a lot of restaurants in the area were closed. What did I want? Asian food of course. Sleep eyed, I pulled into Sam Won hoping for some comfort food and got their large soondubu with squid tempura. The tempura is DEFINITELY a pass. It was not crispy Japanese tempura but more like the sweet and sour chicken variety you get a local Chinese joint in the ghetto. Literally five tiny shreds of squid fried into something that will make your waistline sob and your tastebuds wilt, all for one easy payment of $5.99 plus tax and tip. The sad thing is I hadn't eaten all day and was starving. After I ordered I sat there waiting and no ban chan came out. Just this squid after 20 minutes. So I ate the abominable thing like a refugee hating life but left with little choice. Then the soondubu came out. This was better but not great either. Way better than the squid tempura though. No egg. I scarfed that down and the ban chan came. Nothing spectacular and the radish one was not very fresh. That's what I get for passing out in a car til 9pm! Damn you Fort Worth with your early closing Asian restaurants. read more

Driving around the city center it's difficult to find any other cuisine besides bbq and tex-mex, so finding a good Korean restaurant relatively nearby was quite a relief. Samwon Garden is located in a shopping strip near the highway, and feels extremely authentic in both its decor and cuisine. I ordered the Bibimbap and asked for the beef to be removed since I'm a vegeterian. They were extremely accomodating and explained what all the side dishes were as well--whether they contained fish or any other kind of meat. My one gripe about the restaurant is that the service was subpar. There were only two waiters serving all the patrons, and most of the time we were left just crossing our fingers someone would come and bring us more water (Korean food is spicey!). When we finally attracted the attention of one of the waiters, we felt more like a burden than a valued customer. I'm hoping this was just an off-night for the restaurant, since I definitely plan on returning to the restaurant for the great food. read more

Thank you Yelp once again. There's two things I like when I'm itching for Korean food. It's all their awesome little banchan side dishes, and their BBQ. And of all the BBQ you can get, Kalbi short ribs are my favorite. There's two places that makes the kickass kalbi right for me. One is at Korea House in dallas, and the other is at my house. However, the latter doesn't have more than 4 side dishes that come with the meat. Korean house's staff recognizes us at sight now, haha. I've been hoping for a closer korean place to satisfy my itch, and yelp came to solve my dilemma. Samwon is located in an older strip mall, right by some other stores I care not to remember. What I do remember is a modest mom and pop decorated korean restaurant with about 20 tables, with what seems to be a mother and daughter running the place. We ordered the Kalbi (beef ribs) along with the bulgolgi (sliced beef). Unlike korea house, they gave soup for free. Like korea house, they gave us over 8 side dishes, with unlimited refills. They can stand with any other korean restaurants side dishes easily. The only thing I wished they had was this weird mayonnaise based apple salad we see once in a while at other locations. However, I can't complain since I have plenty of other sides to munch on. Bulgolgi is just as tasty as many other places, and will easily satisfy your craving for sweet, and flavorful sliced beef. Their kalbi, unfortunately did not stand up to korea house's or my own, but it is still quite good, and I am definitely coming back here. What I hope is it was just a bad day, because the ribs tasted more sauteed in a hot pan, rather than nicely charred and grilled with hints of smoke that I so crave. I guess we'll see next time I'm back. Another korean dish I love is the hot stone pot bimbimbop. Korea house has this down perfect down to the bits of crispy chewy rice on the bottom, great variety mixture of veggies and beef, raw egg cracked on top, with a nice squirt bottle of the spicy bean paste. I'll try that next time and see if they stack up. If they do, I think if I need the best kalbi, I'll just make my own, and when I crave the side dishes, samwon will see me at their doorsteps. I'm a big fan of Sam Won Garden because nothing beats this spot in Fort Worth for good Korean. Service depends on how many patrons are in the restaurant at that time -- if it's just a couple of filled tables, you'll get your food in no time... but if it's a busy night, you'll have to sit and wait patiently. But think about it -- wait a bit for your food... or go to the next good Korean restaurant all the way in Dallas? I've never been disappointed in anything I've ordered here and the banchan is always great and plentiful. My favorite dishes to order are the spicy pork bulgogi, dolsot bibimpop(try the one with kimchi in it!), seafood tofu stew and kimchi pork stew. There's even fried rice for your non-adventerous friends and it's pretty good too! I love this place -- and go frequently to get our Korean fix! read more

I've eaten here so many times that they know me. You gotta try the LA Galbi or spicy pork bulgogi if you're new to Korean food. The meat is always succulent and "lick your fingers" tasty. When I do barbecue, I like the Yangneum Galbi, but you must order 2 servings to get this so being at least 2-3 ppl. My favorite soup is the Yookaejang. It's a hot, spicy soup full of flavor, and there's plenty of stripped beef, vegetables, and noodles inside it, so if you order it, make sure you're VERY hungry or else it's a waste of $. There's only been one time that I wasn't satisfied, and as soon as the owner heard about it, she came over and apologized profusely. Not only did she offer to bring me something else, but she didn't even charge me. Sam Won Garden is family-owned and it's food is consistently delicious. You won't be let down. It's a lot better than driving to Dallas or Carrollton for just one meal. read more

They have raised their prices since the beginning of 2015 which I would've been okay with except for the fact that the quality of food has gone down as well unfortunately. They used to also give us rice for free but now charge $2 extra for adv extra bowl of rice. What the what?? $1 I would be okay with maybe but $2? At typical Asian restaurants rice is refillable at zero charge. The potato side is almost always undercooked. Getting a refill on the banchan sides are always hard to get and the portions are never the same anymore for the galbi. Sometimes you barely get any meat. I really used to love this place but I doubt I'll be going here very often anymore. The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars is the service lacks a lot. Each time we've gone there are just two women having to hold the entire place down. This particular time we waited a good 15-20 minutes for a water refill :/ They have beer and wine which makes the waiting more enjoyable. I recommend the kimchi pancake as an appetizer. Some of the pieces come crispy and dark brown, those are the best pieces. The sauce with it is a soy green onion thing and it's perfect. For supper we had spicy pork bulgogi, LA galbi, and the kimchi Dolsot Bibimbop. The spicy pork was a tad greasy but the flavor was fantastic and the pork was tender. It came with sticky rice. LA galbi or short ribs as we discovered are terrific. Twice we have been and twice they have been ordered. Really good texture to the meat, normal galbi flavor. That Bibimbop though. Be still my heart. The rice at the bottom gets a little crispy and the egg on top, whoa. It makes a magical sauce when stirred up with the other fixings. Add the Bibimbop sauce and make yours spicy. IF you have leftovers, I've heard it's even good reheated but I don't know personally because I eat the whole thing. Because ladylike. It's not very cheap, at least not to me, for the kimchi pancake, Bibimbop, bulgogi, and two beers our tab was 60 bucks without tip. 60 bucks is weekend meal, not Tuesday night meal, but alas I was full and happy. I live in Waco and therefore don't have any authentic Korean food within an hour drive. However, whenever I am in the Fort Worth area visiting family and friends, I do my best to stop by Sam Won. I have never found a place that makes bulgolgi like them! It's such a light, delicious flavor that really lets you taste the quality of the meat. If you are a light or average eater, get the regular size. If you eat like a 15-year-old boy, get the large. I also find myself ordering one of the bibimbops often: dolsot bibimbop, kimchi dolsot bibimbop, and just regular bibimbop. It's served in a fiery hot stone bowl that cooks the egg on top. So cool! If you are very sensitive to spicy food, as I am, don't choose the kimchi dolsot bibimbop. You'll get some kimchi as part of the banchan anyway. I'm a freak about sticky rice. It must be perfect! If it isn't really sticky and really hot, I am not happy. Luckily, Sam Won always has the greatest rice. Oh! Final thing! They have a party room that you can rent. I was once there and the party room was doing karaoke! So awesome! Obviously you will need to talk to them in advance about the availability of the room since there is just the one. However, it can fit at least 20 people and it's private from the rest of the restaurant. Overall, I love the Chungs (the family that owns/operates the restaurant) and one of them is always there either cooking or serving. You don't need to speak any Korean but there are lots of decorations in Korean and most of the staff speak it if, like my sister, you want to brush up on the language. read more

What an amazing little place. If you want authentic Korean food in Fort Worth, this is the spot. Went for lunch with my friend and started out with egg rolls, and they were awesome. You could totally tell they were homemade in the kitchen. The dipping sauce with the egg rolls is also a treat. I had the kimchi dolsot bipimbop (I had to look it up to spell it) and loved it. If you like spicy food, this was awesome. Top it off with the house red pepper sauce for some more spicy flavor. It came in a big cast iron bowl and was full of all sorts of goodies. Beef, rice, veggies and the best part, the egg yolk cracked on top. That yolk really adds to it. But yeah...pretty spicy. We had a couple Korean beers (Hite! Clean & Pure!) and they hit the spot. I can't wait to go again and try some of the selections from the barbecue menu. It's in a weird little spot, like something that tasty shouldn't be in a shopping center like that. Yay! I love this place. My first time was only about 2 weeks ago when I went for a friend's graduation celebration, but I had to come back again. They have two party rooms, I believe, and they one I was in had karaoke equipment in it! ( I thought that was neat) Let me preface my review of the food by saying that I am not an expert on Korean food, I just love food in general. The food... simply put, is awesome. I've had the bibim-bap, kimchi pancake, seafood pancake, spicy ramen, and the dumplings(? I believe). All were very, very good. My favorites were the pancakes. There was a small wait for the food, but considering that it is cooked fresh makes me not mind the wait at all. The atmosphere was very laid back and quiet (there were only 4 tables when we went the second time, the first time we were in a party room). The missus ordered a Sapporo but unfortunately they were out, so the server recommended a Korean beer and she loved it! My family was completely taken aback that we got here around 7:30, ordered food immediately (1 appetizer, 4 main entrees), and waited an hour for our appetizer ..... When our entrees got out, we were needing extra side dishes, but nobody came to check on us. One of our orders was wrong as well. Our waitress was nothing but kind and apologetic, but they seriously need to hire more help staff. 1 waitress, 1 chef, and 1 bus boy CANNOT cover a Friday night rush. I've been to Sam Won several times, and the wait is usually long already and the food makes up for it. So it really saddens me to write this review, but I really hope someone who works there reads this and makes amends. I wanted to like this place since it's one of the only Korean restaurants in this side of town. The entrees are decent, but a lot of the fried dishes are overly greasy and their Banchan (side dishes) are atrocious. Anything pickled has a rotten old taste to it, anything vegetable like Bean sprouts are wilted and taste waterlogged, and their seaweed is beyond slimy. I'm wondering if it's a refrigeration thing since every time I go here it's the same issue. Their soups like I said are decent but lack depth. The beef head stew literatly taste like water. I tried them a few times to see if it was a one off thing but this place is sadly not that great. Wonderful owners and chill vibe, but the overall experience isn't the best. read more

I've been eating at Sam Won Garden for years now and the food is probably the best Korean option in Fort Worth (it used to be the only one.) I've never been displeased with the food and it'll definitely satisfy your Korean craving. Not the best but not bad at all. It seems like they're having some growing pains now that they're getting more popular. There used to only be a couple of tables a night but it's been full the last couple of times I've eaten here. Unfortunately, they haven't made any additions to the staff to make up for this. It took over an hour for us to get our order of budae jigae, which requires no cooking. Our waitress was very apologetic though. We were also seated in a room with clothes, motor oil and boxes of random crap. There was an open table in the main dining section but no one available to clean it. They stayed open late and didn't rush us to finish our food, which finally came out 15 minutes before closing. Confession: I'd never had Korean food before I tried Sam Won Garden last week for lunch. This hole-in-the-wall is just down the road from my office. I've been dying to try it for a while, and I'm so glad I finally did! Since I was clueless, I asked the server for some assistance with the menu and he was very helpful! He explained that Korean is served like "Thanksgiving Dinner," coming with a lot of side dishes. A LOT. He also said that "spicy" in Korean does not compare to "spicy" in the world of Thai food. If you're looking for a lot of heat, that's probably not going to happen here. The egg rolls were, in a word, delicious. Ended up ordering the lunch special so I could sample a little bit of everything this restaurant has to offer. I was very pleased with my decision! For the main entree I had the spicy barbeque beef. Great food, great atmosphere. A buddy and I went here on an early Tuesday evening. Lots of Korean patrons in the restaurant. Wait staff could speak a small amount of English (enough to know that we wanted to split the bill and to describe some of the dishes.) Noodle and vegetable appetizer was quite delicious. Main dishes of spicy pork BBQ and grilled mackerel were very good indeed. Spice was right on. Side dishes were very good, too. Everything seemed to be prepared fresh and beautifully presented in small bowls. Many main dishes come in small and large portions, we both ordered small plates which were about 8-10 inches in diameter, but plenty of food when you add in the side dishes. Highly recommend this to anyone, if you're timid about Korean food aim for the BBQ items, can't miss. read more
