Stopped in this place while traveling through town. It was a weekday lunch so there wasn't a lot of people to fight in line so it made for quick ordering. The gentleman working the line were cordial and helped point out the menu options. My son and I both ordered the pork ribs plate with two sides and my wife ordered the Frito pie with chopped beef. The portion sizes were really good for the price points and the food was really good. The ribs were moist and tender and the sides of broccoli n cheese and Mac salad were good. We all ordered the spicy BBQ sauce on the side and it had a nice kick to it. My wife really liked her Frito pie. For me the meat was "just okay." The brisket didn't have that smoked flavor and in fact, it lacked ANY smoky flavor at all. If I had to guess, it tasted baked and not smoked. My husband smokes brisket almost every weekend, experimenting with different wood flavor and cook times so we know what we like from a brisket. I will hand it to Sam's, it was moist. But it's almost as if they were depending on us to dunk it in the bbq sauce for any flavor which is NOT how I eat brisket. I don't want to rely on a dipping sauce to make the meat taste good, that's a waste of meat (I might as well dip spam in bbq sauce at that point because it takes from the fact of it being brisket!). The ham actually had a hint of smoke flavor but it was served lukewarm. Our sides of mac and cheese and green beans were also lukewarm, kind of gross and we didn't finish them. The okra, on the other hand, was great! Ugh, I hate to write this but the tea was sour and the restrooms hadn't been cleaned in a while (the walls were dirty and the soap dispenser wasn't working but was still hanging on the wall despite there being a soap bottle on the sink). It gave me the feeling that they rely on customer patronage based on the bar/happy hour more so than families visiting during the daytime. The nighttime life probably is where they get most of their money, just an assumption based on what we experienced. We won't be returning for the food. The guys serving our meat plates and sides were not that friendly either, they seemed bored and didn't really want to do anything, so it was a slow moving line. Albeit the lady running the cash register was friendly though. Wait! The saving grace was the banana pudding! It was actually fresh (the bananas were barely brown) and the wafers were not soggy. I love BBQ, so any chance to try a new place is an excuse to drive somewhere. From the outside it doesn't look like much but it is homey once inside. We went in a weeknight and only a couple other people there around 8pm. They have the typical menu to choose from. $14 got me a two meat dinner plate which is a good price. I chose turkey and their sliced brisket. Topped it off with potato salad and fried okra. The brisket was a little dry for me. Not bad at all but not exceptional either. The smoked turkey was just ok. This place has great brisket. The brisket had good smoke flavor and melted in my mouth. Sausage tasted like the sausage I get anywhere else but was very good. Sam's has so many side choices! Since I was purchasing one of the family packs I was able to get 6 pints. Macaroni salad excellent. Pasta salad was great. Potato salad had more mustard pickle relish taste then I prefer but it was good. The broccoli salad was excellent. I wasn't able to sample the Mac and cheese or broccoli rice sides as Iam stuffed to the gills. Well worth the drive for great barbecue and sides. The new BBq place in Boyd is really decent. It is slightly above average for a lot of the BBQ in Wise county. Now let's be fair, this is in what I call the everyday BBQ joints. We aren't comparing to Heim, Franklin or Snows. This isn't luxury BBq and it doesn't have luxury prices! We walked in and the employees were nice! They asked if we had ever been there before, gave us sampling's, and explained how the ordering worked. They even offered us the German sausage that wasn't on the menu! So... 1/2 lb German sausage, 1/2 lb moist brisket, and 1/2 lb pork ribs! They have 3 sauces: regular, spicy and regional. The brisket was dry. When I order moist (fatty) and it's dry, I just cannot help you. The ribs were okay, but nothing to write home about. The German sausage was dry while tasty, and had a hard to chew casing on it. My wife didn't eat more than 1 bite. The unchewable casing slid down my throat and choked me... I had to pull it out. The sauces were all very similar, nothing distinctive between them. Bottom line... everything was dry. It's okay if you are comfortable with average. 3 Stars is still better than much of the competition! read more

I drove an hour just to get BBQ from this restaurant. What a gem! I purchased the Family Pack 1(with ribs) to go since I will snack on it for a few days. But the bummer is that after reading the reviews, I failed to consider dessert to go too. Next time for certain. I chose the sides that were listed with the Family Pack. The beans and cole slaw were wonderful. Staff was very nice, and they had a new employee today at the register. A young man learning the ropes. He was adorable. Will drive back out again one day. You walk in and grab a tray, tell the gentlemen what you'd like, they cut it right in front of you while you decide which sides and which bbq sauce you'd like. Then you pay, sit down and start eating. OMG!!!!!!! The turkey is the best I've ever had, and the hot links are to die for. Just tried this place and will definitely be back. I can see myself picking up a to-go feast after work. I sampled pork loin, rib ends, brisket and jalapeno sausage. There is a big selection of pickled fixings. All the meat was moist & tender. Nothing was greasy. The smoke flavor wasn't too strong. My only complaint was that the brisket was too salty. The sides were tasty and the price was great. Didn't have room for cobbler or banana pudding, but hope to try those sometime. This is in Boyd, so of course the city water tastes as bad as it gets. Bbq was really good, hickory smoked. Brisket had the red ring, moist, tender, and not drying out like at most other places. Sides and Sausage were also good, both reg and jalapeño/cheese.
