Turkey 1 meat plate bbq beans, potato salad

Food was great, service was prompt and polite! Worth the drive out. Turkey was the best I've found in a very long time. Will be back.

Cowboys barbecue is the second barbecue spot that I've tried since moving to Azle Texas. I was there today with Cheyenne and her two small children and we all ordered different things. First we got the Childs play with the chopped meat sandwich, which at five dollars is a pretty good bargain and it will feed two kids. Next, Cheyenne ordered the pork rib sandwich, with fries. I ordered a two meat plate and got chopped brisket and pulled pork with potato salad, fried okra, and barbecue beans. Cheyenne raved about the pork rib sandwich, and I must say it looked delicious. The two-year-old & the four-year-old consumed just about all of the child's plate, and the four-year-old claimed it was great. My plate with the chopped brisket & the pulled pork was perfect. Part of that was due to the really tasty barbecue sauce that was provided with the meat. The okra was cooked perfectly & it was crisp and not soggy. The potato salad is a mustard-based salad, which I prefer personally, my only criticism would be I would've liked more texture in the potato salad because it was mashed potato salad, and I prefer chunky salad with pieces of potato and eggs easily seen in the salad itself. I like a little Paprika in my potato salad also, and while there may have been some I couldn't actually taste it. But overall the salad was pretty good, and the baked beans I had we're not bad either, but I prefer Black Eyed Peas myself as a choice. The place was nicely set up and easy to get to, and clean. The folks who own and run it were very friendly, and I look forward to going back and eating some more of their good barbecue. I highly recommend that you try this place, because I know you'll enjoy it.

    Brisket?

Saw 5 star reviews online and put Cowboy's on my "must try" list. A 2-hour trip to get there but a disappointment. No smoke ring, irregular texture in the pound I got. Not real tender. Taste like roast beef sliced with some liquid smoke flavor. PS - I asked for a bitesize sample before purchase but they said no. I trusted the reviews. :(

I saw they had "egg rolls" and only served them on Fridays. Hold your Asian Pure Bread horses...these ain't your typical egg rolls. They're stuffed with pulled pork, cream cheese, jalapeños...this is some backwoods Texan culinary concoction that will surprise you. Damn it's good! Their potato salad is my absolute favorite. It's sour cream based and served chilled. Again other worldly. Their green beans are equally as good..seasoned! I'm not some BBQ die hard fanatic but I know good food! So, not sure how many times I have been here now, but it's a lot; going back over the prior year…read more Biggest challenge for me is hours of operation. They are currently only open a few days a week for a few hours on those select days. Bummer. I'm not going to get into whether or not this place is good, I've already addressed it in prior reviews and updates; in one word it's 'stellar'. The proprietor; Derek has done a tremendous job moving from very small outlet to a very cool large restaurant facility. I took five people there on Saturday and it was a great experience. Derek personally brought the food out. We chatted for a bit, I congratulated him on his growing his business. He said in one day, he does more revenue than he did in a weeks time at his prior "to go" only location. Good for him, he's a true American success story that clearly busted his butt to build his business. If only we had more of those. He's got a great formula. I can't criticize anything he's done; even the bathrooms are spotless and top notch. Whoever built out the plumbing in his place is truly an artist, you have to look at the details, it's not a budget operation. Kudos to this guy for killing it and putting a great crew together. If you haven't tried it you're doing yourself a disservice. If I'm disappointed about one thing, it's the fact he doesn't have those tallow based salted chocolate chip cookies anymore; at least that I could tell. I forgot to ask him about it. He may have had trouble getting consistent quality from his baker, but they were just absolutely awesome and a hell of a deal in my opinion. Pro Tip: I mentioned that I had a pellet grill and I wasn't able to get enough smoke flavor into the meat. It turns out he started on the same one I have. I've got a Yoder YS 640 competition model. He gave me some solid pointers. I can't wait to try them. It will never be as good as his, but hopefully I can improve.

Was visiting for the day and figured why not I love a good challenge. Boy did it not disappoint the outside well let me back up its hidden in a parking lot of some establishments that I can't remember off the top of my head but when you arrive just know you gotta keep an eye out for this place. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming the ordering prices was nice as well very clear cut and doesn't make you feel rushed. Service was quick to I got it to go and it was right at open but I can tell at any moment this place will be popping. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was amazing as were the ribs. The rub on it was fantastic it was euphoric but man only two pieces. The Mac and cheese for me is the star even though I like my Mac and cheese like a cardi b song the bread crumbs made up for it. Now the downside. The banana pudding. I'm a stickler for a banana pudding. This isn't it yall. Skip it at five dollars it's just not worth it. No nilla waffers not actual banana pieces in it. No layered whip. Just it's not my thing it might be for some but my banana pudding standards are thru the roof. The ambiance is great plenty of seating inside and looks amazing. From the outside you'll be like what the heck but once inside you'll feel like man I'm here for something special. Minus the banana pudding. What a great find and this town is lucky to have this place in its home.

We just had BBQ yesterday from Terry Blacks. Today's experience was phenomenal. The folks were super nice. They have Texas Twinkie's...my absolute favorite. Theirs is 5 stars. Smoked perfectly. They weren't over powered with cheese. I ordered ham. It looked dry and I was worried when she was slicing it. It was anything but dry. Smoked perfectly and tasty. I loved it. Great flavor. The brisket was fatty, tender and pull apart deliciousness. My sis loved her pulled pork sandwich. Proudly exclaimed 5 stars! We tried their jalapeño Mac n cheese, green beans, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans and macaroni salad. The Mac n cheese. Heavenly and the best I've had in Texas. We loved their potato salad. I'm telling you it was perfection. It's a mashed potato salad...and I'd argue like the Mac n cheese the best I've ever had. Coleslaw was creamy and not too sweet and we also really liked their macaroni salad. 2 things. Green beans weren't seasoned. Super bland. And I'm not a fan of how they prepackage their sides and you grab it out of the warmer or cooler. Their sides are some of the best in DFW. Let people see the product. Preparing them ahead gives a generic look and feel. I almost forgot the banana pudding. Soooo good. A must try! I liked that the lady stopped by and how everything was...it was warm and genuine. Bottom line 5 stars. We really really enjoyed it. We will back!

The mac & cheese with little bits of bacon mixed in is to die for, and the creamed corn is hands down the best I've ever had. One thing we really loved was the multiple seating areas and the large community-style tables. They create such a welcoming atmosphere, and we ended up striking up conversations with people we had never met before that turned into some really great conversations. It made the whole experience feel even more like true Texas hospitality. What really made us keep coming back, though, was the staff. They were so friendly and even remembered who we were when we came back to dine in again, which made us feel so welcome. And don't even think about leaving without the banana pudding. The squeeze and I split a two meat plate with brisket and sausage and two sides, cowboy cole slaw and Rooster Tails (Deep fried onion petals). The brisket was moist and very tender, with a slight smokiness. The sausage was deeply smoked, sliced in half and charred a bit on the flattop. The slaw and Rooster Tails were really good. A nice slightly spicy dip was served with the onions. Good BBQ sauce for the brisket, and they also had a wall of pain with some choice hot sauces on it. I didn't partake, since I have a flight to catch in the morning. They brought a second plate for no charge. The squeeze had a canned IPA and I had a Shiner Bock draft for libations.
