I witnessed horses being abused in "training" at Solstice Farms. For ex, the so-called "trainer"…read more repeatedly and violently yanked on a horse's mouth one day, which is obviously counter-productive for training dressage horse. The old saying, "Abuse begins where knowledge ends," is applicable here. I was there when a horse put his eye out in his stall. The stable owner (Marie Morgan) did not ensure that the stalls were safe. Another horse died, but I do not know the circumstances surrounding that occurrence. When my horse got scraped up in her stall, the owner could not have cared less, and seemed more annoyed that I was concerned about my horse's welfare. One evening, I went to check on my horse, and Ms. Morgan threatened to call the police on me for "trespass," even though I was a paying boarder. One day, Ms. Morgan decided to put rocks in the barn aisle, which could have caused stone bruises. She left them there for months. Another act of high strangeness was when she put stalls in the covered dressage arena - an arena that was supposed to be available to boarders for riding. When I asked how long they were going to be there, she informed me that I had to leave her barn (a breach of contract). I would not recommend boarding or training at Solstice Farms. I do not think it is a safe environment for horse or rider.

I no longer live in Houston but would not hesitate to go back to Solstice Farms and Marie Morgan if I had the chance.

Every time there has been a health incident with them, the vet is out there before I even get a call. The horses are managed properly and even the slightest issue is handled and taken care of before you can blink. If you're looking for a drama-free, casual environment with occasional showing but is mostly laid back, this is the place. I'm a student with a full-time job who can't come out very often right now and Stephanie and her staff are some of the few I trust to watch my accident-prone horses. I am extremely anal and a micro-manager about everything, and this place fits the bill.

They feed pellets or custom feeds upon request twice a day and coastal 3 times a day. The show barn is large and airy with concrete isles, humidity controlled tack room, large fans, mats, and fly sprayers. Indoor and outdoor arenas, 2 round pens, outdoor hunt course, dressage area, and ample riding areas. For preparing to show there are two hot and cold wash racks. The best thing about this facility is it doesn't FLOOD due to a large 20 acre pond next door. Horses are turned out 95% of the time due to the facility is one a grade which allows for exceptional drainage! While most barns where evacuating their horses during Hurricane Harvey the barn didn't experience any standing water. The owner transports horses to Waller if needed for the best veterinary care in the area if necessary or has 4 local veterinarians routinely visiting the barn to maintain care. She accepts mostly jumping and dressage horses but also have several quarter horses at the facility that want high end care for their horses. The barn has 24/7 access for owners, and she hauls boarders to local jumping shows and prepares them for their classes. You won't find a better facility in the area.

No information, no other even nice comments like, "We would love you to come take lessons with us, but we are running a 6 month lesson waitlist. If you would like to be added we would gladly do this." No......Here is their response. "We do have knowledge of natural horsemanship however, we also have a waiting list for our lesson program currently." This makes me feel they could care less about having my business and about me. I have trained at far too many establishments over the years where they care and respect the horses more than they do the people. I love horses too, but if I ran a riding school, it would be about helping people connect to horses and enjoy horses, and respecting both. Also I must say their reluctance to give any prices for anything on their website or in this email response makes me wonder. Are prices variable? do you make them up on the day? What is the deal. Bear in mind this is my only contact with this company and certainly does not tell the whole story. They could be a terrific group that is knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I will never know. I am moving on to somewhere else, where even a rejection is done with courtesy and thoughtfulness.

We were in Galveston this year for our annual marriage retreat and wanted to do the private sunset ride. I did all the online stuff which was confusing in and of itself. I received a email with info but that made sure I knew it was not the actual reservation. I tried to call the only phone number provided multiple times. I left messages. I was never able to get ahold of anyone and received no call back. Sadly, we did not ride this year.

We get there and the directions given were not clear I walked miles down the beach until we found the horses. Immediately the woman says she hates her job while I'm signing my waver the guy has a smart mouth I simply asked if we could go fast instead of being nice he got a huge attitude and said "I don't want to be here anyway so you can do it my way or leave" I said I was fine walking but after all that he goes talks to the lady and comes back and says we smell like we smoked so we can't ride! Mind you I have medical conditions I do not smoke or drink alcohol. I was simply judged by my looks I felt and they were just so rude. They kept my big deposit and left us stranded. I waited outside in the unknown for an uber for two hours. Worst horseback experience of my life and I have been on atleast 30 rides. DO NOT BOOK THEM THEY WANT YOUR DEPOSIT THATS IT I PROMISE.

Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The horses are well trained and follow each other since they already know the trail, but they still respond to commands like go and stop, and you can steer them left or right if you want. That made us feel comfortable even as first-time riders. The only area I think could be improved is having a small practice area for brand-new riders to learn the basics before heading out on the trail. Other than that, everything was amazing. The ride was about an hour long and very enjoyable. We will definitely be coming back!

We had a very delayed start, and all of the employees were showing signs of being overwhelmed, resulting in them being rude to paying customers. I overheard the younger male who's supposedly in charge talk to one of the girls that was helping him named Maddison telling her "you don't want to help okay f*ck you." She had to be no older than 14, but I minded my business I don't know their relationship. They barely touched on any rules before we started, and they had kids leading us on the trail. The kids that were leading didn't even have control of their own horses. There was a lot of water areas on the trail, and the horse that I was on called Romeo kept trying to avoid the water. I was told l'd have to try a little harder to steer him so l did, but he didn't listen a lot of the time. Almost like he isn't used to being ridden. Towards the end of the trail there was a large area of water and he ran through a small space between some trees that I could barely fit through. I was steering him away from the trees before I even got close, but the horse did it's own thing and I ended up falling off and stealing my legs against the trees. I decided I was done riding, and at the end I went to talk to one of the staff about my experience. He was very dismissive and basically said that it was my fault for not steering, even though he did not witness the situation. He didn't apologize, he was defensive and talked over me during my explanation. I didn't threaten to leave any bad reviews nor did I ask for any kind of refund. I was simply informing them so they'd be aware for future riders. Animals are not predictable and as people we know that. When I told him that I fell he said "well clearly you didn't steer." I have witnesses that were riding behind me that seen that I did what I was supposed to do. After we accepted the fact that they were just rude and bad business owners, I said forget it we're going to just call it a day and leave. The man "in charge" threatened to call the police on us if we didn't show him our receipts proving that we paid. They checked to see if everyone paid before we even started riding. He was just offended, and I honestly believe that he is scared of a lawsuit. Terrible experience and I feel bad for the young girls that have to help him run things there. They need some sort of investigation.
