We were in town for spring break and the weather wasn't cooperating, it's Texas right? We were playing it by ear since the forecast showed rain again, but she was willing to wait to see if it would clear up. Right when our ride was about to start the clouds parted and sun came out. Most places would have canceled, but Beach Bum was willing to work with us. The horses were beautiful and very friendly. My 13 and 8 year old were easily able to ride. Everyone had a great time! This is one of the few things to do in Surfside, aside from the beach and fishing.

This was an amazing experience!!! Leslie was so friendly and we felt very comfortable with her knowledge and expertise. The horses were so gentle and I wasn't nervous around them at all. I would recommend this to anyone!! I will definitely be coming to do this again.

This review is strictly concerning customer service. We did a horse ride with this company 3-4…read moreyears ago and had a great time. We were in Galveston this year for our annual marriage retreat and wanted to do the private sunset ride. I did all the online stuff which was confusing in and of itself. I received a email with info but that made sure I knew it was not the actual reservation. I tried to call the only phone number provided multiple times. I left messages. I was never able to get ahold of anyone and received no call back. Sadly, we did not ride this year.

Horrible horrible experience. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. I got off my long flight got some rest. We get there and the directions given were not clear I walked miles down the beach until we found the horses. Immediately the woman says she hates her job while I'm signing my waver the guy has a smart mouth I simply asked if we could go fast instead of being nice he got a huge attitude and said "I don't want to be here anyway so you can do it my way or leave" I said I was fine walking but after all that he goes talks to the lady and comes back and says we smell like we smoked so we can't ride! Mind you I have medical conditions I do not smoke or drink alcohol. I was simply judged by my looks I felt and they were just so rude. They kept my big deposit and left us stranded. I waited outside in the unknown for an uber for two hours. Worst horseback experience of my life and I have been on atleast 30 rides. DO NOT BOOK THEM THEY WANT YOUR DEPOSIT THATS IT I PROMISE.

Roland, our trail guide, was outstanding. He has a loving command of the horses as an experienced horse trainer, who is majoring in animal science. His relationship with the horses made us feel secure. He floated back and forth, chatting with each rider and ensuring that everyone was well. APFD, thank you so much for a great time of refreshing as we prepared to enter 2026. We would definitely recommend APFD to anyone who wants to take in the serenity of nature, disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the day, and needs a whoosah break. APFD, we wish you the best in 2026!

I made an online payment to secure the horses and we were on our way. It was a pretty smooth process. The horses were pleasant and not intimidating. Our guide was an experienced rider and answered every question we could of lol. They have many different kinds of animals there, it gives ranch but not farm vibes. *insider tip* They offer 2 different types of rides! A regular trail ride and an "experience" trail ride which includes trotting and cantering. This is good to know so you schedule accordingly. They use different horses for different experiences. Apple Maps kept redirecting me every 5 min and delaying me an extra 20min!, so i would recommend just searching "A Place for Dreamers" and get directions. Just go! It was a great time overall and I'm looking fwd to revisiting!

Stillwagon Farms - Chic

Stillwagon Farms

I wish this review was different, but unfortunately my experience at Stillwagon Farms was very bad…read more It started off okay (I thought), but I've since learned even the lessons were bad be aside the treatment of the horses was much too aggressive. I have learned this since I moved my horse and have experienced another barn with people who treat horses much better. I have three issues with Stillwagon Farms. 1. The major concern for owner, Wendy Stillwagon, is money. While her prices were more than fair for lessons, when I started boarding a horse there, it became clear she cared more about making as much money from me as possible. My horse was injured on her property because of a back pasture being grown over with major thorn bushes. I was paying for full board and when my horse was injured, she said she would need more money to doctor her wounds when I was unable to get there. I am including pictures of Daisy's injuries, which again, occurred because the back pasture is so grown over. ----In contrast, my current barn Silver Spur Stables, cares about every horse in their property. I'm am doing pasture board there, but during a storm, Daisy was moved inside despite my not paying for a stall (Stillwagon Farms has no stalls). They will do whatever is necessary to care for the horses no matter what. 2. The Ferrier used by Stillwagon Farms, Jasper, was paid to service my horses hooves. He did not do it. Again, the owner of Stillwagon Farms was overseeing the Ferrier, and I paid for a service that I had to have redone. My horse actually began limping because she was not taken care of, and the second Ferrier (Sean Wright) said, "If this horse had her hooves done then I am a Labare dancer. He isn't a Labare dancer :-). Sean is an excellent Ferrier of you need one. Sadly I do not have Jaspers last name. 3. Finally, now that I have moved and started watching lessons at the new barn, and I have had one lesson myself, I know that the treatment of horses at Stillwagon Farms is so aggressive. I am seeing at Silver Spur Stables, with trainer Anna, that you can have an easy, good relationship with a horse, not having to beat them ever, and still be safe. I am sad to say that Daisy was treated so roughly during her training sessions with Wendy Stillwagon, she actually had lacerations on her face from the bridle. All I can say is that I wish I had know better, but I'm new to horses. I am so glad I have moved her to a safer, more caring place.
