A Place For Dreamers

A Place for Dreamers has genuinely become such a special place for me…read more My relationship with horses did NOT start with me being a horse girl. I was actually scared of them, and that fear became even more real after a horse fell while I was riding in Colombia. So the fact that I now look forward to getting on a horse says a lot about the environment that has been created here. I found A Place for Dreamers during an especially intense season of my life. I was recovering from a traumatic brain injury while also preparing for the bar exam, which meant spending countless hours studying, staring at a screen, and constantly feeling like my brain was "on." Coming out to the ranch became one of the few places where I could genuinely slow down. There is something incredibly calming about putting the books and phone away, getting outside, being around the animals, and focusing on something as simple as the trail in front of you. What started as me trying to become more comfortable around horses turned into something I genuinely looked forward to as a way to decompress and reset. Everyone has been patient, welcoming, and willing to let me build my confidence at my own pace. I never felt pressured to pretend I was more comfortable or experienced than I actually was. Whether you're already an experienced rider, completely new to horses, looking for something different to do around the Houston area, or simply need somewhere to disconnect from everyday life for a little while, I absolutely recommend A Place for Dreamers. The name really does fit.

We will definitely be returning for another trail ride! The land was beautiful and so calming and I could have spent hours admiring all the cute livestock they have. This was my first time here and I've never ridden a horse in my life so I was a little nervous…read moreabout riding a horse by myself. I was extremely nervous that my horse might be startled by something and take off or even worse, get on its hind legs and cause me to fall off. Fortunately, none of that happened. All of their horses seem highly trained and well-behaved. It also helped seeing young kids on the horses by themselves. The Adventure Trail Rides are great for almost everyone. Beginners, experienced riders, young kids, and seniors. I've seen kids as young as 5-10 years old (I'm not great at guessing kids' ages) all the way to super seniors adults. Based on your reservation and check-in details, they will match you up with a suitable horse that matches your height and experience level. Most of the staff are friendly and very helpful. For the most part, they made me feel really safe. I also like their system of operation. After checking in at the barn, you select your helmet. Then when it's time, they call you up and introduce you to your horse. Before the trail ride, a staff member will provide you with a brief lesson on how to maneuver the horse and ride safely. After that, they really give you complete control of your horse. The trails offer plenty of shaded areas, which is great for those of us who prefer to avoid the sun's harsh rays. Gotta keep those wrinkles at bay! Lots of parking and parking is free. I had an amazing experience and plan to return so my super senior mom can finally try riding a horse. My only minor complaint is that I didn't receive the appropriate care and training that my friends did because my trainer is deaf. While I understand that he has communication limitations, he was not very friendly or patient. Perhaps management could assign another person to check in on him if they pair him with a beginner or simply just pair him with an experienced rider. I was quite nervous and if I weren't for my friend who is experience in riding, I would have been much more anxious. Note: You MUST wear denim jeans to ride and reservation is required. Reserve online on their website.

I missed the exit to turn into to get to the ranch, I may have missed the sign on the road, but my GPS eventually got me there, lol Upon arrival there's plenty of parking. The email has super specific instructions for your arrival. Including arriving 30 minutes before your ride time. I got there about 20 minutes beforehand and that was plenty of time. If you come with a group belive entire party has to be present to check in together. $68 bucks for a group ride rate per person. If you miss the email or forget all of the steps just look for the check in desk and they will go over everything. You must wear a helmet to ride, for your protection. And they offer free bandanas to protect your hair (and for sanitary reasons) from the helmet, that was nice. They match up the horse with each individual, I think based on height and weight. That takes about 15 min to get everyone matched and saddled up for the ride. The trail is covered by trees in the forrest, but it's still hot out in the elements, so be sure to hydrate before and after. Pro's -Quality time to get to know your horse before and after the ride - zero riding experience required, but does help -staff for most part friendly, willing to take pics for you in and off the horse - children, and special needs folks are welcome Cons - possible emergencies will cut your ride short - riding instruction only given to the front of the large group not the back - ride may not start on time, so give yourself extra cushion time if you make time sensitive plans after. Tip not required, bur encouraged. Overall a fun experience. But may do a private ride in future to get more detailed and intimate instructions. Enjoy!

The old saying, "Abuse begins where knowledge ends," is applicable here. I was there when a horse put his eye out in his stall. The stable owner (Marie Morgan) did not ensure that the stalls were safe. Another horse died, but I do not know the circumstances surrounding that occurrence. When my horse got scraped up in her stall, the owner could not have cared less, and seemed more annoyed that I was concerned about my horse's welfare. One evening, I went to check on my horse, and Ms. Morgan threatened to call the police on me for "trespass," even though I was a paying boarder. One day, Ms. Morgan decided to put rocks in the barn aisle, which could have caused stone bruises. She left them there for months. Another act of high strangeness was when she put stalls in the covered dressage arena - an arena that was supposed to be available to boarders for riding. When I asked how long they were going to be there, she informed me that I had to leave her barn (a breach of contract). I would not recommend boarding or training at Solstice Farms. I do not think it is a safe environment for horse or rider.

Every time there has been a health incident with them, the vet is out there before I even get a call. The horses are managed properly and even the slightest issue is handled and taken care of before you can blink. If you're looking for a drama-free, casual environment with occasional showing but is mostly laid back, this is the place. I'm a student with a full-time job who can't come out very often right now and Stephanie and her staff are some of the few I trust to watch my accident-prone horses. I am extremely anal and a micro-manager about everything, and this place fits the bill.

The show barn is large and airy with concrete isles, humidity controlled tack room, large fans, mats, and fly sprayers. Indoor and outdoor arenas, 2 round pens, outdoor hunt course, dressage area, and ample riding areas. For preparing to show there are two hot and cold wash racks. The best thing about this facility is it doesn't FLOOD due to a large 20 acre pond next door. Horses are turned out 95% of the time due to the facility is one a grade which allows for exceptional drainage! While most barns where evacuating their horses during Hurricane Harvey the barn didn't experience any standing water. The owner transports horses to Waller if needed for the best veterinary care in the area if necessary or has 4 local veterinarians routinely visiting the barn to maintain care. She accepts mostly jumping and dressage horses but also have several quarter horses at the facility that want high end care for their horses. The barn has 24/7 access for owners, and she hauls boarders to local jumping shows and prepares them for their classes. You won't find a better facility in the area.
