Had I Known!!! This park Rocks! But where is everyone? We live blocks from Bark Park but there is no shade, no fun equipment for the dogs, no grass. I've now checked off every dog park West Sac to Folsom and this is by far tops for large dogs. There were poo bags, plenty of water, a bench and two other tables with benches for seating. The training course was our fav! So much fun!

Oh. Writing this review kind of hurts my cold, cold heart. West Sac, the best sac, surges through my veins and this park used to be one of my old childhood stomping grounds. Sam Combs park was once strictly a playground, and clubhouse (our family has rented out the facilities for many a party, way back when). And, it was the only playground in the area that had thee very dangerous kiddie-powered merry-go-round. Ah, the good ol' days... second-hand smoke, optional seat-belt use, what the hell is a car seat?, Mc D's coffee was HOT, and dangerous playground equipment was the sh*t! It is still a pretty decent playground and grassy soccer area. But, this review is for the fairly-recent after-thought dog park area. My gawd. I felt like we were entering the land of the lost. Yeah, yeah, I know that dog piss ruins grass, but this place is just a big dust bowl. It's very shaded by lots of big old trees, but I was expecting tumbleweed to mow me over at any minute. There are patches of green on the ground... weeds, but expect to feel like Pig-Pen walking outta there with a big ol' dust cloud surrounding you. I would hate to visit this place in the winter, and walk outta there feeling like Wilbur fresh from his mud-bath. This is a pretty damn desolate dog park, compared to Summerfield just a bit down the road. A few pluses- turd-bags are supplied a crafty meth-head rigged a ball-basket to one of the trees someone left their kiddie-pool behind so that one can wash the dust/mud off fido. No wonder the suburbanites from Summerfield park are always talking crap about Sam Combs (bad doggies and their ruff owners). We have never actually seen anyone in the dog park areas, so I can't comment on the clientele, but I grew up in the area and I'm sure they are of the high-class sort like me. So, this place must just be haunted by the ghost of Cujo or something, and even the West Sac Parks n' Rec are afraid to enter?

The water levels were definitely high, with concrete pathways leading directly  into the water at some parts. But there is a public dock designed to rise with the water, so we were able to walk along the pier to enjoy some of the views while standing over the water (Old Sac waterfront, Delta King, Tower Bridge). We even saw (and heard) sea lions jumping onto the end of the dock, stretching out, playing, and relaxing, it was adorable! Back on land we walked along the trail on higher ground, watched the geese feasting on the plentiful grass, and admired the trees and nature all around. We even passed by the Subtile artwork by Federico Diaz and loved how it fit into the surroundings. The park and trail provided a calm and simple environment, and was clean for the most part (though underneath the bridge seemed a bit uninviting), and we appreciated every moment of our Sunday afternoon here. Parking was free and easy on Waterfront Place, near the Ziggurat (pyramid looking building).

I'll definitely go back though.

Play Structures: I was seriously impressed by the variety of equipment specifically designed for the 2-5 year old age range. It's hard to find parks that cater so well to that specific gap! Creative Designs: The creativity here is next level. The kids absolutely loved exploring the castle and the ship structures--it really sparked their imagination and kept them busy for a long time. Right next to the playground is a great duck pond. It was a huge hit with the kids and provided a nice, scenic break from the climbing and sliding. Even late in the day, the park felt welcoming and well-maintained. It's a perfect destination for a family outing where the kids can safely burn off some energy.
