Salween Thai is an awesome spot with some fabulous Thai Food. The parking is tough is my experiences but just be comfortable parking down by the Armor Storage side and walking a bit. There is usually a small line/wait to get a table. Service can be a bit slow but the food is worth it. The ingredients are flavored and spiced perfectly. The spice ratio is a bit on the lower end in my opinion. I would normally go with a 4-5 in my other travels but here I would do a 6-7. the meat and veggies always have been done to perfection. I found the fresh wraps to be a bit on the bland side though. no herbs or flavorings. It will take a person quite a number of visits to travel the menu. read more

The Pas See Yee (with tofu) has become my Covid pick-up favorite dish from this outstanding Thai restaurant. As well as the Coconut Chicken (sub tofu) Noodle Soup when the temps drop to freezing. Amazing flavors - but watch those spice levels - especially on the soups! read more

Extremely frustrated. Their mid-day closing time is different on Yelp, Google AND on their store front!! Yelp says 2:30, Google says 3:00 and their window doesn't even have a mid-day closing time. Then when my sister at and I arrived at 2:14, the waitress addressed us at 2:16 saying that they close 2:15. Okay.... we mentioned to her that the store hours were different on google (not expecting to be seated) but she didn't seem to be bothered by that. I don't mind that they close but it's seriously annoying when you travel to eat at their establishment and their business hours are changing/unreliable/not to be found anywhere. Now ABOUT THE FOOD: Let me tell you that the food is GREAT! I have Tom YUM and Padseeiew Beef here and it's so yummy. The service we good. This is decent food, but its not worth waiting 45 min. to get seats, and another 20 min. for waitress to come to table, and another 20 min. to order food, and another 20 min. for food to arrive, and another 20 min. to get your bill. Although sometimes there's a wait because everyone is coming in at dinner time and I also discovered that the food don't always taste the same because of different people cooking your food. I've heard so much praise over the years from friends about the food at Salween, and now that I have finally had it, I must disregard all further food suggestions from these individuals. They can't be trusted!!! That being said, I got the Panang Curry with tofu, and requested a spice level of 8. I had been warned that they take their heat levels here seriously, so I was super stoked about finally receiving adequately spiced food from a restaurant. The dish that I received was more like a 2, and was essentially a curry broth due to the fact that there was hardly any tofu or veggies in the bowl. Best pad thai ever!! Salween has great food in general at a reasonable price. I come here way too often for takeout since it is so easy and tasty! Service can be a bit slow at times, but it seems like it's because they don't have enough staff at the time. Their dining areas look a bit plain and empty, nothing special, which might put people off, but I'm telling you it's worth it to stay! What they lack in decor they make up for in flavor. They use a 1-10 spice scale so be aware that each number is spicier than you would expect. I enjoy spicy food and still a spice level 4 is enough for me. read more

The food here is amazing and was tonight but the service was not great at all. The waitress was very selective in her attention to customers and we were not one of them. We didn't have silverware and I let her know but instead of getting it right away so we could start eating our food she checked out another customer at the counter. She didn't come over to our table during the meal to see if we needed anything such as water or napkins. It took her an extremely long time to check on us and she only came to the table for the intro, to bring our food, and to bring the bill. I'm so glad I got to check this place out while I was visiting family in Omaha. Definitely the best pad thai I've had in Nebraska haha. It had really good flavor and the chicken was perfect. The spice rating is 1-10, and I opted for an 8, which was decently spicy and made my nose run! Even though the portions are kind of small, the price makes up for it at around ~$7.50-$9.00! Next time I'll probably order 2 entrees to go! The pad see ew is also really good and made with wide rice noodles that aren't as thick as some, but very flavorful! I love the food here but the service is horrible. Once I ordered take out and when I got my food I realized they didn't have my chicken satay, they said that they didn't have the sauce so they didn't make it. I said that I didn't use the sauce anyway and would have still wanted it. The girl in front says, "oh well, too late". They weren't going to tell me that I wasn't getting what I ordered. This is probably one of the best Thai place I have ever been. Not sure how it compares to other Thai places in Omaha since I was only there for a night and this is the only restaurant that I chose to visit. All the dishes are well seasoned, tasty and the service is quick and friendly. I still remember their mango fried rice, which is awesome. The rice is tender but not mushy, the season is on point and mango can be found everywhere. I know this kind of weird when you think about it, but just like pineapple, mango bring the sweetness into the fried rice but not overwhelmed other flavor. The curry was so good that I almost want to finish the last drop of the sauce. It goes extremely well with white rice, making it a very good combination if you want rice with hot sauce and well seasoned. The curry smell was not too strong. It was very good. We also order spicy beef noodles bowl. The soup was awesome and the beef was tender. It also has some veggie and bean sprouts that help to balance the carb and protein in this portion. Pad Thai was also good. It is better than most places in Dallas. However, I had better Pad Thai so it was not very impressive. My classmates and I went to Salween Thai after a long week of school. Since moving to Omaha, I have unfortunately had to set standards for asian foods a bit lower than I normally would hope for. Here, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the food! I enjoyed the green curry -- very nice flavors and a great portion size. I also love that there is an attached grocery store and I hope to visit it in the future (it closed before I finished my meal). The only reasons I don't feel that I can give Salween 5 stars: The waitress would hand food and drinks to people at the end of our table and ask them to pass them down, rather than delivering them herself (we sat in the middle of the dining room, where there would have been no difficulty in her doing so -- also because we were a large group, 15% gratuity was already included... I guess it kind of felt like she already knew she didn't need to impress anyone). Finally, I ordered a spicy level 9 of 10. I would have expected this to be almost insanely spicy, but it was still quite tolerable. But, again, we are in the Midwest!! I'll be getting a 10 next time. Overall, great food! Lose to closing and found our preferences ready to go when we finally made it to the register Tofu yellow curry and pad Ko Pa were plentiful and tasty when we got home! Food was really good. The peanut sauce was very different than I've had before, but it was SO good. The egg rolls were very good!! The mango sticky rice was also different than I've had in the past. It came with a sauce which I think was coconut milk. It was a tasty addition!! Delivery was quicker than the estimated time! God was really good. Servers are lethargic and not friendly and barely helpful. Food was DISGUSTING. Chicken tasted like it had gone bad and sauce tasted watered down. Just gross! Took one bite and informed the waitress that both dishes had bad chicken and barely got a response. Told them we didn't want anymore food because the bad chicken scared us and ruined our appetite. Waitress walked away and when the waiter finally came back, he told us they were remaking it. We said no, we dont want anymore food. No apologies or explanations. Just thanked us and let us leave. I recently saw a friend's Facebook post about this place, which came with a photo of Tom Kha Gai soup. She gave it a very positive review, so the girlfriend and I set out to try it. We recently had takeout from another longstanding Thai restaurant here in Omaha, and honestly, it was not great. We had an agenda: to find a new Thai restaurant that we could be excited about. This place turned out to be it. In a nutshell: super friendly happy service, an honest heat/spice rating (we ordered 8 on a scale of 1-10, and we were glowing), generous portions at super affordable prices (one appetizer, one soup, two entrees and a dessert for $30) and last but not least, awesome flavors. Appetizer: spring rolls, 3 big ones, cut in half and served with a light dipping sauce; Soup: Tom Kha Gai, featuring chunks of lemongrass, thin slices of galangal, kaffir lime leaves, bell pepper, loads of thinly sliced chicken breast in a spicy coconut broth; Entrees: Pad Thai with Pork, seasoned noodles with finely chopped seasoned pork with bean sprouts and chopped peanuts, and Green Curry with Chicken, huge bowl with white meat chicken, bell pepper slices, Thai eggplant, all in a simmering seasoned coconut curry broth; Dessert: Pandan ice cream - a large dish of bright green scoops, not too sweet, reminiscent of green tea ice cream. Pandan is a plant that is featured in many Asian dishes. Look it up - Pandanus amaryllifolius Nothing was overly sweet or salty like so many Asian restaurants I've been to. The flavors were fresh and what I believe to be as authentic as can be. Maybe it's because there's a Thai grocery store next door. I've been frequenting this restaurant on and off for a few month. Read the review in the World Herald and thought I'd give it a try. Now, the reviewer warned about slow service -- that's an understatement. Not just slow service, we're talking achingly slow service. Tonight we arrived and there were five tables who hadn't even gotten a glass of water yet. We sat ourselves, waited about 4-5 minutes and then I walked up to the cashier/waitress and asked for a menu. It was nearly 10 minutes later that she came to our table. What was she doing in the meantime? Up front chatting with a friend. Yeah. No urgency whatsoever to actually serve customers. Two other gals waiting tables at a turtle's pace. The wonton-wrapped shrimp appetizer was greasy, greasy, greasy -- $4.50 for 6 teensy little shrimps, over-fried and dark brown. Gross and tasteless. We both had Pad Thai -- and it certainly wasn't the dish that I'd had the first time I'd stopped, some six months ago. Dry and pasty. Noodles congealed. Nope. PLEASE, someone teach these owners about customer service. PLEASE. I don't imagine I'll return, tired of being ignored while I'm trying to spend money and purchase their food. A well-stocked, albeit smallish store that have a good variety of Thai and Asian spices, snacks, produce and even some curious items like frozen water bugs. I was there looking for some cricket meal (long story), but had no luck. Still, I picked up some prawn crackers and had fun just browsing the aisles. While there are several Asian markets popping up all over Omaha, Salween Thai is close to home for, so I'm making it my go to spot for that hard to find items No Frills just doesn't cary. The best place in Omaha for affordable, spicy Southeast Asian cuisine! I have enjoyed everything that I've tried here. My favorite is the boat rice noodle soup pork (long name lol). They bring you an assortment of toppings/spices so that you can adjust the spice level and flavor yourself (=endless fun). Yes! Sooooo glad there's a place where I can get great Thai food in Omaha. As a Los Angeles transplant, I find myself missing the delicious food of Thai Town on Hollywood Blvd often. Was excited to see Sarah Baker Hansen included Salween Thai in her Top Ten of 2013 and after checking out the menu here on Yelp!, I had to go. Wasn't disappointed at all. I've had a lot of Pad Thai in my life and was sooooo relieved that Salween's delivers the goods. Perfect portion, perfect spice, perfect fresh ingredients. Atmosphere is great, service was fast and friendly, and the fried crab wonton appetizer was the best of its kind I've ever had. Why? It wasn't dumped out of a bag of frozen wontons into the fryer. The dough felt fresh and the filling tasted like someone at the restaurant made it. And the dipping sauce made it all-the-better. This is my new go-to spot for Thai food. Soooo glad I went. I'd recommend carryout, because in my experience, while the food was excellent, the service and general dining experience were poor, even by the already low standards of the family-operated restaurant genre. The service was so painfully slow and the servers appeared so infrequently that I considered knocking another star or two off, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt for my first try. The food, in stark contrast, is phenomenal. I'd heard nothing but good things and can confirm every one of them. For my money, this is without a doubt one of the best Asian restaurants in Omaha (notice I said Asian, not just Thai). The prices are also pretty reasonable. One word of caution though: when selecting your level of spice (on a scale of 1-10), shoot low. I personally dislike this place because the employees are not the most professional. i.e. never offering napkins and utensils for take-outs, assuming that they'll just keep the change when paying with cash, etc. My girlfriend, on the other hand, is a fan of their pad thai, so I only get take-out when she's craving Thai food. Otherwise, I prefer Bangkok Cuisine on Farnam because what they may lack in flavor, they make up with hospitality. A few days ago, we got some things for take out with pad thai, drunken noodles, some rice sausage balls and the fried crab rangoon. The entrees were okay. The sausage balls were a bit salty, but surprisingly edible. The crab rangoon should've been in the dessert section. The few times we have gotten them from here, they were okay (I'm not a fan of crab rangoons but my girlfriend is). This time, they decided to put strawberry cream cheese in the rangoons. Or some kind of sweetened cream cheese that had no place in that particular appetizer. I don't know what they were thinking, but they thought wrong. Customers aren't stupid. If you're going to short-change them, do it some other sneaky way, not in such a blatantly obvious display. read more

Okay, so first off the food here is great. I always get the Pad See Ew and the Pad Thai is pretty good too. I've also had the Green Curry and Basil Beef. All equally delicious. However, their service is super slow. They always have one or two waitresses and if there's more than two tables when you're there then you better be prepared to wait a longgg time for your meal to come out. I might have found my new favorite Thai place. We have heard about this place from several people and had our doubts it was THAT good. We were fully satisfied going to Mai Thai having tried other places (Taste of Thailand, Thai Spice, etc.) and were not impressed. Why look for an alternative if you're perfectly happy with your "go to Thai place? We came here on a Saturday night around 5:30 PM and there were maybe about 5 other tables. While the parking lot and overall exterior were poorly kept (trash everywhere, cracking concrete, fading parking lines) the inside was pleasantly nice and clean. We were served waters immediately and within 5 minutes our orders were taken. ADVICE: Everyone is right to order a lower spice level than what you normally do. In most restaurants where I order a 5 on a 10 scale, I ordered a 3 here and it was PLENTY hot. I ordered the Drunken noodles and my husband ordered something similar. Our friends also got Drunken noodles and Yellow Curry. Hands down the food is fantastic! Service was very courteous and prompt and the best part...the prices are pretty amazing. Most dishes range from $8-$10 and were good sized portions. Other Thai places (such as Mai Thai) would charge that same amount for lunch prices and then $12-$14 for dinner prices. With our kids sharing an entree, our family of 4 was around $28 before tip (3 entrees and an appetizer). That made me happy. So overall... Prices- 5 stars Food- 5 stars (I would say it was equal caliber in taste to Mai Thai) Location- 4 stars The saddest thing for us is we live in Elkhorn and we're really only down that way on Sunday...and they're closed on Sundays. We've probably been to Salween twenty times since they opened - it is nearby, delicious, and cheap (it used to be an absolute steal, but they have unfortunately come to their senses). It seems lots of reviews note the service. Yes, I remember that phase - there was a time when they always seemed understaffed, but service has been excellent the last handful of times we've been in. We gravitate around the Pad Thais, Curries, and appetizers, occasionally venturing out further. I've never had anything below a 4-star meal here, and it is usually 5-star. I was pretty hyped about trying this place, but found it just ok with decent service. My friend and I visited here for lunch last week, and found the place already 3/4 full at 11:40am. We were seated right away and were able to order two iced coffees. We tried out the fried meatball appetizer, and yum wun sen salad for my friend and the green papaya salad Laos style and tom kha gai for me. The meatballs were good, slightly spongy texture that made you think something beside straight beef was in the mix, but good flavor and nice chili dipping sauce. The green papaya salad laos style was horrible, and this was the dish I was most looking forward to. It looked dull and grayish when it came out (not the bright, crab laden picture I had been expecting) and had a two day old seafood spell wafting out from it. Still, I labored on and tried some and it not only smelled like seafood past its prime, that is what it tasted like too. I had ordered it at spice level 3, and found it overwhelming spicy. I normally do not send back dishes, but this was one that had to be sent back. The other salad, yum wen sen, was much better. It had glass noodles with mixed seafood (mostly shrimp and krab) with lots of cilantro and was a huge portion but a milder spice even though it was also level 3. The tom kha gai had great flavor but also had chunks of lemongrass and galangal that were very hard still and weren't very edible. I loved the flavor, very bright lemongrass with the creamy coconut/sour lime and just a hint of spice at level 3, but I was pulling lemongrass and glangal out of the soup with every bight. I will give this place another go, but for my first experience it wasn't spectacular. Finally had the opportunity to check out Salween with my boyfriend since we've been hearing a lot of hoopla about the place for quite some time. I have to say there really wasn't anything spectacular about the place and compared to Mr G (my fiance), I don't claim myself a food critic. My pad thai was so so and since I'm not into spicey foods I requested level 1. Our waiter thought that was pretty lame :) Mr G's was a 7 and it showed on his face - lots of sweating. The service was rather slow. When the waiter finally came and asked us if we were ready to order, I immediately asked him for water and think he got flustered. I have always heard good things about Salween Thai. Most other Thai restaurants I find are mediocre, the noodle and curry things are watery and always tastes a little off. But, Salween proved otherwise. Came in during the lunch hour, restaurant was pretty full but we were seated promptly. The specials caught my eye, one being a drunken noodle dish with ramen and a fried vermicelli dish. After looking at the menu, I decided to get the pad see ew and my boyfriend got the drunken ramen special. The pad see ew was a good mixture between sweet and savory, the portion side was big and the dish was full of chicken and vegetables. The drunken noodle dish was delicious as well, not too fishy tasting and being an 8 on a scale of 1-10 on spiciness, it packed a good punch without being overwhelming.
