You can go with 2 meats, 3 meats, 4 meats or even 5 meats, then you'll choose 2 sides and drinks and then, voila; you'll enjoy a great meal. The dinner was a disappointment, far from the splashy ad on the internet. The brisket was tough, the back ribs dry with little meat on the bones, the pulled pork was acceptable, but the southern fried chicken drumsticks were delicious. We were told we would have two side dishes, which we assumed was per person, while it was intended for three persons. The contents of the two dishes were meager so we ordered extra. The server was very chatty and amicable and left us feeling that it was intended as a distraction. When we asked about the misleading advertising on the internet, we were told it dated back prior to COVID-19 and was no longer applicable. The Saturday dinner time attendance was low. We came in after a hike for some food. it was pretty late and we figured we could order lunch, but were told we cannot. We have to order from the brunch menu. No biggies! We like brunch. She starts off telling us to read the brunch menu. 5-10 minutes later comes back to let us know that there's no corn ham, corn beef, and a few other items... Basically, everything we wanted to order was not available. They should have just pointed out what WAS available. We proceeded to order one big brunch special that comes as a shared platter of your choice of items. We got mac and cheese (which was not good at all. Very powdery and I really prefer a smooth cheesey type), beans, potatoes, jerk chicken, and some type of meat that looked like bbq pork. We also ordered the eggs benedicts. I would highly recommend you do not order the eggs bennies here. The eggs were hard boiled... there was not even a hint of the egg being runny. It was entirely over cooked... all of our eggs were completely hard. The corn bread plus the dry yolk made it very dry and hard to swallow. We had to order extra hot sauces and bbq sauces (which actually were quite good). The Jerk chicken was alright. Their bbq pork was great. The potatoes were so salty, none of us could eat them. We downed about 4 bottles of water. I would not return. The prices were wayy too high considering we had 4-5 options we could actually order, and we only enjoyed 1 aspect of the dishes we were served. Staff here though, are great. Really nice people! I would highly recommend that they clean up the floor. It's so slippery a lot of people were sliding around trying to get to the washroom. and then the washroom was really slippery. Ambiance was nice but what a disappointment! Worst food I've ever had in a We went on a Sunday night 6:00 pm and they were out of several things because apparently they got slammed during the day. We were flexible and figured we could let that slide if the food was really good. Well it wasn't. Not at all. We had the 4 meat combo and picked a few sides that they still had to go with. Although all the meats were tender the ribs tasted of fuel .. not smoke - fuel and there was literally no sauce on them. The brisket was tender but it didn't have much flavor because there was virtually no sauce on it either. They were out of the Southern Chicken and the Nashville Chicken, out of cornbread, roasted potatoes, and seasonal veg so we got the Jerk Chicken and there was nothing Jerk about it. Tender but flavorless. We got the beans and the Hot Mess and ordered a side of Slaw. She forgot the slaw and when we reminded her she said it's coming, and then forgot again. There were only 5 customers in the restaurant! We had to ask a second time and it came half way through our meal. It was so obvious to us that they had whipped it up at the last minute as it only consisted of paper think shredded red cabbage, mayo and a ton of salt. Absolutely no acid in it - no apple cider vinegar, no sugar, or carrots, or white cabbage or anything that makes slaw yummy and so important next to smoked bbq!! The slaw was literally gross and a total rip off! The little pork belly nuggets were breaded and fried and while they were tender enough once again there was virtually no sauce .. no flavor .. just that fatty flavor that pork belly has! How do they get away serving such awful food at such high prices?!!! The waitress/hostess was very nice and very friendly but half decent service doesn't make up for terrible food!! One of the best bbq places I've been to in ages! And that includes recent trips to Texas! I love the relaxed vibe in the restaurant, and the excellent menu- lots of choice but not overwhelming or too much that they can't be good at everything. We had the meat platter and the mountain sandwich. Everything was delicious without exception! The sandwich was indeed a mountain but manageable if you are hungry or want to share just a little! This was my first time trying this bbq place. My friend and I made a reservation for 5:20, and we were seated immediately. The place is clean and following COVID restrictions (had our temperatures taken and everything). We ordered the platter for 2, which includes 3 meats and 2 sides (& we added an extra side). Our server, Keitan (more on him later), recommended the brisket, the southern fried chicken, & we went with the St. Louis ribs for our third meat. For our sides, we chose the jalapeño cornbread, brisket Mac & cheese, and tangy slaw. The food arrived maybe 10 minutes after we ordered, before we even finished our drinks (hibiscus gin cocktail). Now, onto the food! The St. Louis ribs were by far THE BEST ribs I've ever had! They were smoky and fall off the bone tender. Absolutely delicious! 10/10. The brisket was pretty good, very tender but also somewhat fatty, and was overshadowed by the deliciousness of the ribs 7/10. As for the fried chicken, the drunk sticks were huge, and the buttermilk crust was crispy and delicious, with sweet and spicy coating over it. The meat was tender and well cooked, so 8.5-9/10. The meats were literally "finger licking good" and were served with DELICIOUS pickled red onion. I would ask for more pickles next time for sure. The sides left more to be desired. The Mac & cheese was okay, a little disappointing since it looks better than it tastes 6/10, the jalapeño cornbread was not spicy at all, and didn't really have much flavour 4/10. The tangy slaw though was perfect! Much needed to lighten and cut through all the fats 10/10. Overall I highly recommend this place, and will definitely come back for more yummy southern goodness. Now, for the service, we had Keitan, who was absolutely DELIGHTFUL! He was sweet, funny, and super attentive to our needs. He walked us through the menu, provided us with everything we requested (extra napkins, straws, and even tooth picks for after!), and was overall a breath of fresh air. He checked up on us a couple of times after we got our food to make sure everything was tasting great, but was in no way overbearing or hovering. I would literally come back just to see Keitan again, that's how wonderful the service he provided was. TLDR: 10/10 definitely worth checking out! I was debating if I should write this review as this is a time, we're all dealing with Covid-19. Cost of food has gone up, restaurants are closing at record paces, but I think sometimes criticism, especially for restaurants that want to be the best, can be constructive. Saltlick, I drove an hour to try your place and you let me down. Lack of cutlery was my fault; I should have asked for it. You had no Idea I was driving from an hour away and planned to eat my meal at a public place. Let's get to the food. Many of you are complaining that you spent between $70-$90 worth of food and didn't get enough, I can say we spent 90% and enough food that we did not enjoy that we tossed it in the dumpster at Bayfront Park. We ordered two orders of 3 meats and 2 sides at $29 each, plus extra sides and drinks. Meats: Brisket, pretty much 60% fat little or no bark, disgusting. (I will lean towards supply issues on this one) Ribs, meh, have had much better. Fall of the bone type. Nashville Chicken. Fried chicken with little seasoning, zero heat, zero sweetness, fail. Smoked Chicken, a little dry, but decent smoke. Wings, hard to screw up, they didn't screw up. Sausage - let me be honest, I have never eaten sausage so vile and salty. This was the fist thing in the bin. Sides: Southern Cauliflower, fantastic, best part of the meal. Mac and Cheese, okay, decent nothing to write home about. Beans, okay it wasn't awful, but it wasn't amazing. Typically, I would give a review like this 1 star, it was that bad. Place wasn't busy and immediately my partner and I were greeted with a warm smile by the waitress (can't remember her name) her service alone was ten. She was attentive, accommodating and had no problem engaging in small talk that didn't seem forced as a way to get a good tip. The lunch menu offers a variety of option that are decently priced. We opted for the sampler and the fried chicken sandwich (recommended) and shared both. Presentation was okay considering it was meat slapped on a board. The right angels could definitely make it "Instagram worthy". Both my husband and I found the chicken drumsticks on the sampler the best part. The sweet chilli sauce accompanying was the right amount of sweetness and heat to cut the salt from the breading. By the time we reached the sandwich we were 3/4 of the way full! The sandwich was good. I found the breading on the chicken a little soggy, my husband found no such thing. All in all food was great and the flavours for a bbq joint were definitely there! I wanted to like this place more, but was somewhat disappointed. This caused me to put on a somewhat sour face, which caused me and my dining partner to have a small argument, so there are strikes against this place from soe emotional sides. Let's forget about that and go through the procedural and culinary facts: The waiter was very welcoming and friendly and came over to explain "how we do things here," with reference to the large chalkboard food menu. How they do things there is "family style," meaning everyone pays per person, but you share the things you order. The cost varies depending on how many meats and sides are chosen, but costs per person are in the $30 range. We went with 3 meats and 2 sides ($27 each). We ordered ribs, Nashville chicken, steak with mushroom (meats), and beans and cornbread (sides). The food for sharing was delivered on a wooden board, as in the photo. We each ordered a pint ($7) and our total with tax, before tip, was $76.84. Nothing was outstanding. The steak was tasty, but the portion for sharing was very small and the mushroom pieces were unpleasant and rubbery (can't remember what type). The Nashville chicken was a real disappointment. The portion for sharing was miniscule, and the piece I got was all batter, no meat, very salty. The ribs were definitely the best on the platter, but were quite dry. (I'd eaten delicious barbecue the previous week elsewhere so a comparison was high in my memory bank, regarding portions, taste and price.) The cornbread muffin was laughable as a side - tiny, dry, cold and boring. The beans were fine, nothing to write home about. My sour face, however unpleasant, seemed somewhat justified by the end of meal, at which point it dawned on me just how flawed Salt Lick's "family style" approach was. When my partner and I go out to eat, we like to double the taste samples by ordering different things and sharing them. Here, we were forced to order the SAME thing and share it. In a normal barbecue place, we would likely have tried 6 meats and 4 sides, but here, our choice was limited by "the concept." This might have worked if the food had been outstanding. As it was, I got the feeling that this restaurant had spent much more time figuring out how to make sure that each patron left $40-$50 in the restaurant than perfecting their recipes and preparation. read more

The portion sizes seem to be a lot smaller than what you see in the pictures people post of their in house meals so I'm guessing that dining in would have been a better experience overall. I enjoyed the jerk chicken and it had a great kick. The brisket was tough sadly and didn't carry a strong smoke flavour. I like the sauce that came with the pork belly nuggets and they were okay. The sides were nothing to write home about, just generic Mac and cheese and coleslaw. We also got 2 Nashville Hot sandwiches, which I was the most excited for but they were both missing pickles and instead loaded with pickled jalapeños. The two of us ordered 4 meat (they are small portions) + 2 side dishes to share, and it came to $31per person. The fried chicken drumsticks were my favourite, but there was only one piece per person. The beef brisket was quite tender, but not particularly exciting. The pork belly nuggets were essentially pork fat covered in batter and deep fried, and did not have much meat substance to them. The barbecue back ribs that night were on the dry side, but my friend has said that they are usually quite tender. The biscuits and slaw were the highlight of my dinner, next to the fried chicken drumsticks. I would neither recommend or advise against trying this place. read more

This is a membrane that any amateur BBQ chef knows to remove, but Saltlick either didn't care or thinks it's appealing to battle an inedible leathery skin when eating? Seriously unacceptable. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly and was juicy and tender, the brisket melted In our mouths and the smoked BBQ pork was so juicy and fatty. Don't expect regular pulled pork though, they pull the pork so the pieces are still big and chunky , so you get lots of good crispy skin in there too! The slaw was a pretty good slaw but that brisket mac and cheese was TO DIE FOR! So savoury and creamy , we wished we had a double order of it. We decided to try this on the advice of a friend. It is a truly unique experience. Meats that are prepared over charcoal or smoked brought to you on a wooden plank. Presentation is excellent. The restaurant itself is interestingly decorated with a brick wall and menus on the wall. The servers are pleasant and really know the menu. The good news seems to stop there. The portions are not generous. Meats were luke warm although flavourful. Sides of Mac and Cheese and House Salad were just ok. Size wise again, not impressive. Taste wise, pretty standard. It wouldn't take much to improve this place a great deal. Meats could be warmer and portions a bit larger. We had 3 meats and 2 sides for I believe $24 each. Lost points for service. Went in for lunch on a Saturday and had to wait 45 minutes for 2 sandwiches. There were 2 other tables in the restaurant and the waitresses didn't really even come over to update us on our meal or bother checking on our drinks. I think that kind of soured the rest of the visit :/ We got the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich. Both were great - the meat was tender and cooked well and were topped with fresh slaw. I thought the BBQ sauce was so-so and tasted like Kraft store bought. I think if you're a BBQ joint/smoke house you should really make your own BBQ sauces like they do down South. As well, you should have BBQ sauce on the table! A variety of sauces would be nice. The menu is well organized by meats as well as sides. We tried the beans and slaw as sides. The slaw was well balanced with a nice light dressing while the beans were quite spicy, but delicious, so be warned of you can't handle the spice. I think having a nice selection of fresh beer on draft (beer and BBQ, come onnnnn) and interesting specials, as well as well made BBQ sauces, would really spice this place up. I always feel a bit phoney giving a 5/5 but I have to say this place was really, really good. I'd probably say 4.5/5 but am rounding up. Appears to be newly opened or converted to a BBQ place with pork, beef, and chicken offerings, along with the traditional BBQ sides (mac & cheese w/ brisket, coleslaw, baked beans, etc). Lunch service requires you to pick a meat that they turn into a sandwich on a fresh and very soft bun, along with a side. I think dinner would be more platter-style. Our table had the pulled chicken and brisket. Both were really enjoyed. I loved the sauce on the chicken. For sides we had mac & cheese w/ brisket, coleslaw (vinegar), and baked beans. The mac & cheese was not overly cheesy, more like a pasta dish with chunks of brisket which was delicious. Baked beans were good, with a kick of spice. Went here upon recommendation. I have to admit, I wasn't so sure considering that SO many places are now popping up with this whole "Southern style smoked BBQ" theme... all my misconceptions were left at the door because when I walked in my first impression was "Mmmmm it smells good in hurr!" The decor was simple and fit the overall theme, spot on. The food was fantastic! Everything we tried was delicious which included fried duck wings, beef brisket, pork belly tacos and chicken drum sticks with sides of beans, coleslaw & mac & cheese. I even ordered a TO GO bag so I could enjoy a brisket sandwich for lunch the next day. The only downside is the way they present their menu. You basically HAVE to order one of three options: 3 meats/2 sides, 4 meats/2 sides, 5 meats/2 sides. I'd prefer to have a choice as to how many meats and/or sides. For example: 0 sides if I don't want any or maybe ONLY sides.. so that sort of compromised my menu selections but that's as far as my whining will go. The beer selection was pretty good too! I respect any establishment that offers local/craft/micro brews (I can go to any chain-brand joint & have Coors, Molson, Bud etc...). Decided to go here with family (+2 boyfriends) for Valentines Day. Atmosphere- Very simple decor. Wooden tables and chairs with open kitchen in the back. Our group got to sit at the large table with pew seats ( uncomfortable) The menu is on chalkboards on the walls and the whole table has to order together. It was extremely cold despite them having an extra portable heater in the middle of restaurant. in the space and we all had to wear our coats for the meal. Food- Our meats included: 1) brisket- tender and very large slices. Simply scrumptious with the bbq sauce. 2) flank steak- tender and wonderful on a bed of spinach and mashed potatoes- yum. This place can cook meat. 3) lamb shanks- with mint- fall off the bone tender with a great taste ( if you like lamb and I love it) 4) duck on fried polemta and chili fried squares- loved the duck. I wish the fried polenta did not have the heat- not a fan. The cooks in this place get top marks for cooking all the meat to perfection. A1 for everything. Now for the sides- 1) mac and cheese- good ( not great) but I liked the crunch on the top. 2) coleslaw- not the best I have had. 3) side salad- The whole table preferred this to the coleslaw. Unfortunately we only had a single order of it and an order for 6 for coleslaw. 4) butter cloud biscuits- They were good but if they had been served warm instead of being cold with butter they would have been great. I have had the cornbread muffins here and I do not like them because they add chilies to them and I am not a fan of extra heat. Service- Almost non descript. I had increased our reservation from 4 to 6 I was told we only had 1 1/2 hours. They had our dishes lickety split after we ordered. The waitress had a full restaurant so getting her for anything was a challenge. On busy nights i would suggest a little more help. Impression- I will definitely be back again and again. I just with the sides were the same quality as the main meat dishes. I will oder side salad next time instead of coleslaw and hope the other choices are better. read more

Just got back from lunch there and had to jump on to rave. Interesting menu that is tough to choose from (always a good feature). I had the brisket sandwich with a side of beans, my woman had the pork belly bahn mi (spelling?) with a side of mac & cheese...with brisket in it! We left incredibly full for under $35.00! (included a couple of pops, HST and tip). Delicious, creative and generous portions...I shall return. Liquor licence is still in the process, but don't wait - if I had a beer with that lunch I would be napping right now...happily I might add. read more

I had the porkbelly nuggets and a couple bites of the chiken sandwhich leftover from my friend's plate. The nuggets were nice and crunchy and paired with a tasty sauce that I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is (hoison?). the nuggets could have had a bit more meatiness to them but not a big deal. The chicken sandwich and its paired bbq sauce was amazing. I would definetly reccomend going for a lunch. It has a perfect simple menu. Next time Ill probably get the brisket sandwich. read more

Honestly 3 times in my life have I happened upon a restaurant and been completely blown away from the start... Everything we ate was delicious. We had pork-belly tacos and a brisket sandwich with Mac & cheese and a house salad and my wife and I shared it all... Absolutely delicious... Everything.... the tacos were a perfect blend of flavours and the pork crunch just killed.. The brisket sandwich was perfectly cooked, perfectly sauced(too many places over or under sauce) and was enough to feed someone on its own The sides were also amazing, the mac & cheese was as big and much better tasting than personal portion ones I've ordered many times... the salad was also perfect... simple, with a great dressing... the perfect complements to 2 great lunch dishes.. read more

Great place for brunch. The chicken and waffles were a great with our kids. Brisket was slightly crips on the outside and fall apart tasting Sweet and salty all at once. The biscuits melt in your mouth! Will be back again! read more

Overall we had a great experience! The waiter was very friendly and helped provide us with samples of drinks so we could choose what we wanted. He did a great job of talking us though the menu and even pointed out what what was what when he brought out dishes for other patrons. The food was very good especially the Pork Belly bites! We also enjoyed the brisket, buffalo baby back ribs and the crawfish. All were quite good. For sides we enjoyed the corn and the brisket mac and cheese. So overall, good atmosphere (you might need to ask to have the music turned down), great food and service. My only suggestion is to get a sweeter cider on tap. read more
