I have floated here twice and will be going back in March to take a guest. This is a very interesting experience that I've come to realize is not offered a lot of places. You shower before and after your float. It is a form of sensory deprivation. You go into the tank and it starts with a blue light and music, which slowly fade until you are left in the dark box. The tanks are very large so don't worry about feeling claustrophobic. Due to the mass amount of salt in the water you float effortlessly. It takes all the weight off your body. So much so that my arthritic knee stopped hurting for a while following my float. The tanks are not emptied after each use (I've found hair in my tank both times), but apparently the high salt content kills any germs/bacteria. I highly recommend this place if you're into this type of wellness. I did buy the guided meditation for my second float and it wasn't any different than the regular float, so I don't recommend paying that extra premium. read more

A definite experience in itself. The owner definitely knows his stuff, when it comes to this type of relaxation. If you have a tough day, week, month, or his is the place you need to spend a minimum of 60-90 minutes in. You're whisked away mentally when your body calms down enough, to allow your mind to go off on its own. For the 60 minute relaxation I spent in the salt bath, I never once felt like I was asleep, even though after speaking with the owner, he mentioned that's exactly what happens when your body slips into REM Sleep. If you need a spa day or just a moment of relaxation, I would for sure recommend this type of therapy that any conventional spa day. Next on my list is the 90 minute salt bath. read more

I was given a gift card to Salt7even by a bestie who wanted to give me a unique present. I had never floated in a sensory deprivation tank before so I was anxious, nervous, and excited all in one. Once you book, you are sent an email with recommendations on how to prepare for the float, what to do at arrival, and what to expect during your float. My first float the lights slowly dimmed off which made it completely dark inside the tank and that sent my anxiety through the roof. I ended up propping open the tank door to let in light which also let in a cold draft. My second visit I was more prepared as to what to expect. I asked to keep the lights on low for the entire session. This was perfect! It's hard to put into words what emotions you will feel and how your body will feel. A very interesting experience! I felt a bit anxious when the lights went off inside, but it's very easy to float. The pitch blackness made me think of floating in outer space. The salt water felt slippery like the Dead Sea does. My sinuses plugged up for some reason, and the air felt thick, which made it a little hard to breathe. This is an experience. I've never done anything like this in my entire life and found the whole thing fun, interesting, and most of all relaxing. I didn't really know what to expect when i came in, but after talking to the host, Sean, he helped to put my mind at ease. We started off by laying down with my eyes closed as i listened to music being played live with singing bowls and guitar. I think this was done to start the relaxation process. Then after, i showered and went into the tank! It's not just water, but also salt to make the liquid more buoyant to float in. While inside i was in complete darkness while listening to more live music from the outside. The experience of being inside there was very interesting, it did feel relaxing but also felt very similar to having a hallucinogenic experience. i imagine this is a trick of the eyes while being in such a dark room. After the tank i hung outside and talked to sean with tea and shared my experience with him and he explained the process and benefits of the tank. It was really cool. This place is wonderful. Note: the place says it opens at 1pm but you can make an appointment earlier in the day which is what I did. Salt7even is right next to the Fox theater and easy to find. The employee who helped me was very sweet and full of information. They have three float rooms so they can float three people at a time. They provide towels, robe, earplugs, halo head floaty, shower with shampoo, conditioner and body wash and a separate bathroom with mirror to be able to put on make up or dry your hair. I brought my own hair dryer and brush as I have bangs and look dumb if I don't blow dry them after a shower. (They do not have a blow dryer, so if you need one bring it) I made my appointment for 10am, I got there a little early so I could get any info they didn't email me. The employee told me all about floating and it's benefits. He gave me some safety information and guidelines. He told me that the light in the tank goes out once you get settled and how to help relax after that. The water was nice and warm and I really enjoyed floating. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars is that there are small details they could do to the place to make it better (like painting the pipes that fill the tank to black so they don't look out of place, cover up any cables and cords that aren't necessary to the floating. I had such high expectations I think that's where I went wrong. I was told the water would be body temperature and would be to the point I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between being in and out of the water. The water was really cold to me like when you're in a pool and don't want to get out because it's freezing. I tried so hard to relax and just slip into this relaxed state of mind but there was a huge pole in the tank I floated into and hit myself I'm not sure why there's a pole out like that. Maybe it was my fault for picking the last session of the day. But the girl in the front was really nice. The shower has nice smelling shampoo conditioner and body wash. They have a robe and towels and make up remove wipes so that was nice. read more

This was my first float here. My husband and I made our appointment online, but when we arrived, no one was expecting us. There were personal belongings on the floor in the entryway, and the employee who was supposed to help us was in the float tank himself. We waited a bit for him to get out and help us. The first thing I did before getting in the shower was take off my shoes and step on the bath mat which was soaked and cold. I was instructed to scrub down but was not provided with a wash cloth. Soap and shampoo were provided, and there was a shower in my room. The tanks were large, lined with black plastic, and had exposed plumbing inside as well as a strip of colored LED lights. I was not bothered by the plumbing once the lights were out. Once I was in, I was able to float freely, but the tank smelled mildewed. It also had poor ventilation. Also, there was a crack of light around the door, and I wasn't able to shut it well enough to totally block out the light. When my session was over, the LED lights came on very brightly and practically blinded me. I'm no expert floater, and this practice is fairly new to me, but I'm not sure this is an experience I would pay so much for again. I did get about 20 minutes out of one hour where I felt truly relaxed. I can see where floating has it's benefits, but for this particular location, I would love to see more attention to detail and cleanliness. read more

My husband and I went for our first float for our anniversary. The tank smelled a little mildewed but it was fine. The showers are very very small. Unfortunately, when we got out of the tanks the water had been shut off so we could not wash the salt off, so we drove home covered in salt. When my husband and I first went, I believe it was close to when the location opened. I was very hesitant but figured I would give it a shot. Since it was my first time, I really didn't know what to expect. I had a very difficult time focusing, which is a problem I had prior as well, and was very ready to get out long before my hour was up. I did not have any intention of returning. Fast forward about six months...my husband scheduled a two hour massage and a float at another business in Santa Monica. The massage was so intense I was stiff as a board after and thought I had just ruined the rest of my vacation. Not the case! We went for an hour float at the Santa Monica float business, and when I was done I felt more loose and comfortable than I had in as long as I could remember. I had also been able to relax and get in a meditative state! Fast forward another six months or so...I have injured my shoulder and my doctor and I agreed floating would be beneficial as the magnesium in the Epsom salts permeate the skin and can help with inflammation and healing in addition to the typical benefits. The first thing I noticed when I went back to Salt7even was the smell. The mildew smell in the tank was so strong, I took several minutes at the beginning of my float afraid I would have to get out and be sick. However, I had been working on mindfulness since my first float, and was able to get myself to a relaxed and meditative state... unfortunately I kept hitting the sides of the tank and coming out of it. Also, I didn't feel supported in this tank like I had been in the other as if there wasn't enough Epsom Salts for the amount of water to reach the desired level of buoyancy. All-in-all, I have discovered that floating is amazing! Whereas I am super excited that we have something available in Bakersfield, I do not believe I will be returning to Salt7even. I had been so curious to try this out. Laying naked in the dark in shallow lukewarm water void of all sight and sound. Sounds absolutely terrific! Umm, right? A friend of mine has been dealing with nerve pain so we cleared our schedules on a Friday afternoon, made reservations online, and went in together to give this a go. The girl at the front desk was super friendly and informative as she filled us in on what to expect, then tucked us away in separate rooms to get our float on. I had a rinse in the shower and then opened the door to the tank to see what I was in for. There is a strip of white LED lights on the ceiling of the tank and I used that light to scan the walls for monsters and creepy crawlies as best I could, then climbed in, laid back, and put my head into the halo support that is provided. The LED lights faded off and left me in complete darkness. I know I was supposed to close the door, but I was chicken to do so right away and kind of kept it cracked open so I could see the light and remind myself that I had an escape. So I laid there, awkwardly, and tried my best not to think about scary things. My mind went haywire. It yearned for music, lights, stimulus of any sort. It started telling me that this was not my idea of relaxation, and maybe floating just wasn't for me. I wondered about my girl friend and if she was still in there or if she was thinking about doing the skedaddle like I was. But, I couldn't give up so easily, so I cleared my mind of the scary thoughts, shut the tank door, and decided I would stick this out. THIS is when the magic happened. (Or this is when the CBD honey stick that I bought from the front desk started to kick in. Highly recommended that you opt in to that before floating for a mere $5 a dose.) When the tank door is closed, this amazing thing happens where the air becomes the same temperature as the water, which is the same temperature as your body, and creates the feeling of total weightlessness. This must be the feeling that everyone comes here for. I focused on the sound of my breathing, stayed really still, and my environment and I became one. My mind went blank and my body finally stopped trying to control and resist its surroundings and instead embraced it. And then, an amazing level of relaxation was achieved. All there was in life was warmth and soft breathing. I felt like I was tucked into a warm bed made of clouds. Every joint, muscle, bone in my body finally relaxed and gave in to this foreign feeling of weightlessness. It was nothing short of completely amazing. Like nothing else I have ever experienced. Of course, since it took me half of the time to relax and reach this point, I was only in Nirvana for a short while (or maybe it felt short because I fell asleep?) until the LED lights faded back on, signaling the end of my session. I slowly got out, and took a hot shower.. after which I felt amazing. Relaxed, refreshed, and skin/hair as soft as ever. When I got in the tank, I wondered how the heck I would be able to stay in there for 90 minutes, and when I got out, I was sad I hadn't opted for a 3 hour sesh. In thinking about it after, I couldn't help but wonder what comes after the state of relaxation.. is there another level of bliss I could have reached if I hadn't been such a chicken and wasted so much time? Ill only know if I go back in the tank. And believe me, Ill be back. Btw, my girl friend said the treatment worked extraordinarily well for her back / nerve pain, and that she had relief all weekend. I have never floated before, but this was a GREAT way to start! I'm a middle school teacher. I am always looking for a way to relieve stress and tension. A sensory deprivation tank seemed like a good fit. And Salt7even delivered in a big way. First of all, the reservation process was super smooth. The website is very informative, and the scheduling app was straightforward. They seemed to have good availability, and their rates were all right with me (I am a pretty frugal person). Next, Shaun was great! Friendly and gave lots of great advice. He put me right at ease. The amenities are a bonus: lovely linens, an awesome robe, and a high-quality body wash and shampoo. Just finished my first float. Shaun did a thorough job at explain the process before the float, during the float, and after the float, so I knew exactly what to expect for my first time. I signed up for the sound bath session and the music helped guide my relaxation during my float. I was initially worried about being in the complete dark but closed my eyes and began to take deep breaths. This experience helped me to completely relax my body and heal from the inside. I've taken a lot of science classes and learned about how the body heals in the parasympathetic (rest and digest) state, so I definitely kept this in mind during my float. I have had the absolute BEST experiences here. I was extremely nervous to do the float but it truthfully was such a needed new adventure. Shaun is very helpful and gives you all of the information you need before you go in to help you have a successful and calming float. I did the 60 minute float and 1 hr 30 min float and both were great. The space is very clean and overall has a great sense of serenity. I would say that if you're scared about being in a small space, there's no need to worry because the float chamber is actually quite big and you are in charge of getting in and out, so you are not locked in. I would 100% recommend Salt7even to anyone that's even slightly considering doing a float. It's helped with muscle recovery, stress, and overall mindfulness for me. Oh my gosh you guys, I've been wanting to do this for a while, and FINALLY today it happened. This was a really great experience. First the appointment, I made an appointment online, they only have so many appointments per day because each appointment is 1 1/2 to 3 hours long; I chose the hour and a half appointment. It's best to schedule an appointment early to secure your spot, but if you ever get online and see an appointment the same day you want to go then you're lucky. The pricing: $55 for 90 minutes, $60 for 2 hours, and $70 for 3 hours; they also have gift certificates. The experience... you check in, they show you around and explain the process, then you close your door (single person rooms) shower(put your ear plugs in first before getting wet for a better seal) and get into the tank and lay in the water(naked). As soon as you lay down you're floating, you might want to use the pool noodle for your neck as a pillow(I did). After that you're laying in the dark, it seems like you would get bored or might need something to occupy yourself but trust me you'll be fine and the time goes by quicker than you would think. My experience... First I had to investigate the tank, feel each wall and like everyone else make sure there are no monsters in there. lol I started by thinking ok what now, what am I going to think about or do while I wait or try to relax. Well a few things crossed my mind and then I started focusing on my breathing, and the smell of the salty tank, then the sounds of nothing and then the sounds of my blood flowing. Next I focused on my face and body relaxing. I was interested to see which way my body would naturally fall to feel the most comfortable. I know this next thing I'm going to say may sound very hippy/spiritual/avatar movie-ish but, at first I felt like I was in the water, the more relaxed I got I felt like part of the water lol I know I know... no I don't do drugs either; but that is how I felt. Anyway I fell asleep in there cat napping basically cause I kept waking up but still felt relaxed when I did wake up. The tank water was not that deep but the way you float feels like you're ocean deep, only much safer. When the LED lights came on signaling me that my time was up, I was thinking wow, ok, time really flew by. Coming out of the tank there's a salty film around your body, it made my skin feel soft( not as soft as a natural hot spring but still nice), just shower again before leaving. The words that come to mind after this experience are great amazing relaxing, and most definitely recuperating rejuvenating and rehabilitating as the site says. You can go in the nude or in a swim suit, the water is changed out after each person (so it's not nasty like a bathhouse type deal). There is a shower you are encouraged to take if you have not done so before arriving and also after your float. The shower is located in your room. You can float in your birthday suit or bathing wear. I chose bare. Ha. Since it was my first time I did not know what to expect and I couldn't completely relax, although I almost fell asleep 2 times. It is amazing to float since I usually sink lol. The float room is completely dark and the water is heated!!! :) after I was done I told the worker I could not fully relax and she said that they are going to work on putting some natural product in the water to help you relax. I have floated a couple of times before out of town, so I was happily surprised to find out that this business had been quietly sitting under my nose in my own backyard over the past 9 months! I must have been really asleep to miss this, but I hope the rest of Bakersfield isn't because we need this gem to stay in business. The benefits of floating are as numerous as the experience people can have floating. No float is exactly the same. This location has 3 tanks that are available by appointment for 1-2 hour appointments costing $40 & $60 respectively. For first timers, the 2 hour float is recommended. I have a lot of stress in my life and pain from an accident at work-2 things that floating is great for! I booked an appointment and was impressed with receiving online forms with waiver and instruction on how to prepare to sign in advance electronically. The building has a minimalistic modern vibe. The husband of the husband and wife owner duo checked me and another person in and gave us our pre-float instructions which were pretty straightforward and simple. He explained that these tanks are the largest in California; indeed they are much larger than the older school pod or coffin like chambers I have used. This felt like walking into a McMansion super-sized closet for a Hollywood actress and laying down on the wet floor. No need to feel claustrophobic in this baby! Laying down in 10 inches of heated water, one is immediately buoyant. I felt so peaceful and relaxed floating for 2 hours. At times I had the mild sensation of flying. I fell asleep for part of the float (no worries, you can't drown; I'm totally accident prone and it didn't happen, so you're safe!) Just do it and let your cares melt away...I am going to be recommending this to all my stressed out co-workers. The soap, shampoo and conditioner smell lovely and are organic. The conditioner pump was out though, so I had to leave my long hair tangled. The tanks are meticulously maintained and monitored in a very high tech fashion on various levels on an iPad. I think they may have packages for those who go more often but there was no information on this visible or shared by the owner. I had never tried a sensory deprivation tank/float before, but had seen something on it on a tv show and was intrigued. A short search on google led me to Salt7even (which wasn't open yet). Today I scheduled myself for a 2-hour float (their recommendation for new floaters) and oh man, I am sold. The actual float occurs inside a tank, which is basically a huge rectangular metal container with a 10" pool at the bottom. The tank is inside a room (with a locking door, much like a tanning salon) which also contains a chair, some hooks, and a personal shower (for before and after). The owner, Dirk, was incredibly friendly and as it was my first time, walked me through how to enter the tank and what I should expect (how some people lay - arms up or down, the temperature, how to open and shut the door in the tank should I feel enclosed (which I never did, btw), and the importance of getting a good seal with the ear plugs (which they provide)). Overall, I felt very prepared and it was a great experience. The showers, like those at home, take a moment to warm up. I suggest turning it all the way to hot while you insert your ear plugs and get undressed and it should be ready for you to rinse off before your float. Now, to the part you are actually wondering about, what in the world do you do for 1-2 hours inside a dark, silent room? You relax. I thought prior to this experience I would use the time and let my mind solve all the world's problems. However, my mind instinctively just relaxed. It did take my body some period of time to follow and trust that I wouldn't sink in the water (seriously, you can't sink). The experience is incredibly relaxing. You feel weightless and your brain and joints are just saying "thank you, thank you, thank you"! Going into this, I really thought 2 hours would be excessive and I would get bored and leave early or just sit there bored. That did not happen, the LEDs indicating my time was up came sooner than I expected and I wished I had set aside an entire day to just lay there and float. Leaving the float it feels like what you always hope a good massage and vacation will bring to you. Pure, utter relaxation. Zero soreness or stiffness, even though you haven't moved for a couple hours, and you are just happy (or I was). It was incredibly refreshing. It really felt like I had just had a mini vacation filled with naps and massages. My shoulders weren't tense or hurting like normal. All my joints felt like they were brand new, I know this all sounds crazy, but seriously, it was that good. The idea of going somewhere to sit naked in a really dark, completely silent spot still "sounds" strange, but trust me, it is worth it (especially for the measly $40-60 they charge - cash only btw). If you have stress, or pain, or just need a break from life or a noisy house, I seriously recommend you give them a call. TL:dr Floating is an amazing experience that only sounds strange but is actually AMAZING and well worth trying if you have any inclination toward such ventures. I heard about Salt7even through my cousin. She had just floated a few days ago. After researching it, I booked my appointment immediately. $40 for 1 hr and $60 for 2 hrs. It was really hard for me to unplug from everything. There was a point where I stepped out of the tank and rinsed off because I wasn't sure I could do it. But seeing as how I'm so stubborn I made myself get back in and complete the 2 hour session. I would definitely do it again. I felt so relaxed and carefree after my session. When you get there you have to rinse off before getting in the tank. The tank is huge so it's hard to feel claustrophobic. It's filled with 10 inches of water and I believe tons of Epson salt and other products. You put earplugs in before stepping into the tank. The tank itself is all black and you can't see anything. I used the flashlight app on my phone to scan the tank before I stepped in. I couldn't not know what it looked like inside. It would have messed with me too much, psychologically. Once you step inside the tank you sit in the water slowly and lay back. You then shut the tank door and you're surrounded by darkness. I had to feel all the edges with my hands and feet before I was able to really relax. The water is body temperature and you just float, because of the salts in the water. I almost fell asleep a couple of times. I say almost because I do this thing before I fall asleep where my legs twitch, and I did that a few times but since I was floating in the water I woke up. There is a strip of lights that turn on when your session is over. That's how you know when your time is up. Your skin doesn't wrinkle or prune in the water. I would suggest it if you feel stressed and just need to unplug from everything. It's super relaxing, I felt elated when I left. There are tons of health benefits from floating, they're all listed on their website. I can't wait to do it again! The building is very clean and has a spa feel to it. The man that gave me the pre-float instructions was very informative and helpful. Great customer service. It says cash only but I was able to buy a gift card with my credit card. Edit: the temperature of the water is meticulously monitored. They have iPads I believe that control the water temperatures. I never got cold. :) read more

This was an amazing experience. Everybody should do it at least once! Sensory deprivation chambers had my interest since the 2003 Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck. Last week, my wife sent me as a father's day gift, but I was stymied because it was by appointment only. Today was my appointment. When I got here, I met Dirk, the owner, and the most mellow dude I think I have ever met. There's nirvana, then there's Buddha, then there's Dirk. So, I knew something was working for him. In the chamber, you can't tell if your eyes are open or shut unless you wiggle your eyelids. It's either the most awake I've ever slept, or the most sleep I've ever gotten while awake. Left with nothing but your thoughts, your mind wanders in some pretty cool ways. For $40 for an hour, it's totally affordable, and a far better way to spend money than a restaurant, bar, or theater. read more
