In my opinion best massage location in Bakersfield and I've been to quite a few, there's only one…read moreother that can compare however the massage therapist here are very friendly and ask what is bothering you and focus mostly on that to allow you the best experience. The gentleman at the front desk is running that place better than most people I've seen run a massage therapy business. He even takes text messages up into a certain part of the evening after the business is closed to try to fit you in and knows what his opens are within 5 to 10 minutes of you texting them. I would love to gate keep this place to myself but I know that they don't need my endorsement for the great things that happen here. Though I won't gate keep the location I will gate keep my therapist (for now) However if I know you personally message me and I'll tell you who she is.. Overall the only place I'll be going to in 2026 unless something changes.

I really wanted to leave a fully positive review because I genuinely enjoyed my massage. The…read moreenvironment was incredibly calming, and my masseuse, Karen, was wonderful. Unfortunately, the experience at checkout completely changed how I felt leaving. When I booked over the phone, I specifically stated that I would be using a gift certificate. Nothing was disclosed at that time about an additional charge. After my massage, I was told I owed an extra $10 because of the age of my gift certificate. I questioned the charge, and ultimately I was not charged the additional $10, but only after I pushed back and questioned why I owed anything at all. The certificate was purchased in December 2024 and states "4x massages," not a dollar amount to be applied toward massages. Hands of Joy has also not increased its massage prices since the certificate was purchased. What concerned me even more was that after I questioned the charge, additional wording was handwritten onto my gift certificate that had not been there when it was originally purchased or given to me. I will be attaching a photo of the certificate for transparency. Terms added after a gift certificate has already been purchased are obviously not terms the purchaser could have agreed to at the time of purchase. I am away for school for months at a time, so naturally it can take me longer to use a multi-massage gift certificate. Being made to feel as though that was somehow an issue, especially over a gift that had already been paid for, took me from feeling completely relaxed to feeling frustrated and belittled. My biggest concern is for customers who may simply pay an unexpected charge without questioning it. California has specific protections surrounding purchased gift certificates, including restrictions on expiration dates and service fees. I would encourage anyone using an older gift certificate anywhere to understand its original terms and ask questions before paying an unexpected additional fee. Karen and the massage itself were wonderful, and I genuinely wish that had been the entirety of my experience. Unfortunately, the way the gift certificate was handled at checkout, and having wording added to it afterward, left a disappointing impression.

Even though I made this clear, they still insisted on massaging my neck and face. I don't like for anything to touch my face except for when I get a facial, and my neck felt fine. I wanted the areas of pain to be the focus. Anyways, the foot massage was decent, but still not quite what I was looking for. The woman wasn't firm enough; it was too gentle. Moving on, they have tables set up right when you walk in the salon, and this is where I was worked on. There are rooms down the hall, not sure what those rooms are for. I came back for a second time a couple months later (in October) and no one was in sight when I walked in. A minute later, a woman that worked there came out of one of the back rooms in a hurry, looking disheveled. She explained to me she was with a client and that I would need to come back in 30 minutes. The whole thing felt bad and icky. What was she doing in that back room and why was her hair such a mess? I wasn't put into a back room when I went in for a massage; they told me that they worked on people out in the front room, and this is where they worked on me. So what service do they offer, that takes place in one of the back rooms with the door closed? I had heard a couple rumors about this place before; after my last experience of going there and the employee coming out of the backroom, I'm inclined to believe those rumors. I do know for certain that owners of a massage parlor at this location were arrested a few years back for prostitution. However, from what I understand, this place supposedly has new owners. All I know is, I wouldn't be surprised if illegal activities are still going on there.

She said 1 hour massage is a $10 tip! First of all her massage isn't as good as Amy who is the owner I believe. For someone to demand a tip for subpar service is so un professional. So I went to write a yelp review and noticed the one from above from a month or two ago so I'm gonna leave that one there. Today I went in for a massage the lady cannot communicate with me because she's limited on her English and I was asking for a massage she said that she has an appointment and it's been 15 minutes and there's still no appointment here. I could have just said I was the appointment. There's literally only one woman here which could be a safety issue as well. I'm told to Come back in an hour well I don't have time to come back in an hour so they're losing business this way but I guess not because there's only one employee. This lady is the one by the way who said I should give $10 last time. Not coming back
