This was the perfect nightcap to end our Seattle trip. The customer service is great and they let us try many of the fun flavors. We tried a balsamic strawberry, cheddar apple biscuit, and more! I loved the creativity in the flavors. We set on a choco taco that came with a mango, jalapeño chutney to enjoy with it and a salted malted cookie dough. Both were delish! I would absolutely come back here to try more fun flavors!
No matter how excellent a meal or how much one has eaten, life is incomplete without ice cream. Founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek in 2011, Salt & Straw has grown from humble beginnings as a single pushcart in Oregon. During our visit to Seattle last month, some of us decided on ice cream and went to this establishment located by Pike Public Market. My partner, his family, our friends, and I knew this was the right place as the line stretched outside their door to the sidewalk. There had to be around 30 customers waiting, and at first I thought we would be standing there for a while inside that was clean, modern, and had a fun vibe. Surprisingly, the service moved extremely fast. Their menu is quite interesting and rotates regularly, with five of the 20 or so flavors swapping out each month, and they even provided samples. Various flavors were ordered, and my partner and I settled on a plain Vanilla in a cup and Chocolate Gooey Fudge in a cone. It's a bit pricier than an average cone or cup, but the ingredient quality and unique flavor profiles justified them. The staff were super friendly and helpful. It absolutely lived up to the hype.
Recently I was in Seattle to work a conference and I was looking for a place for a late night ice cream treat. Earlier in the week I had walked down to Pike Market and discovered this place where I had gone back in February. I knew I had to get back here.... So on the last night I was in town, I walked here again and got myself a treat...a Sea Salt/Caramel Ribbon milkshake. It was heavenly. Yes the lines were a bit long and yes there was a wait but it was worth it. The creaminess of the milkshake combined with the salty/sweet taste of the caramel...oh so good. Prices were a tad high but it was worth it. If you like ice cream this is definitely a place to check out. The vibe is reminiscent of an ice cream/soda shoppe from our parents and grandparents time when these were quite popular.
We love Salt & Straw. We were in Pike Place market recently and had to have ice cream before heading back. I got a Strawberry pretzel salad and my hubby got Chocolate gooey brownie. The Chocolate gooey brownie was good as usual. I like trying their seasonal favors and enjoyed Strawberry pretzel salad.
This place is highly recommended on Seattle TikTok, so had to come during my visit. Their flavors are unique, I've never seen an ice cream place that has an ice cream with porcini. This may not be the spot for you if you're seeking basic flavors, if doing the most was a contest, this place wins. The flavors I sampled were good, the ice cream is rich & flavorful but I found myself wanting to omit some of the extra ingredients. I settled on their cookie dough and chocolate brownie in a waffle and it was great! The waffle cone was fresh and crispy just how I like it. There was a line and probably took us 20 minutes to get through. The young lady that served us was patient and kind. Would go back for that cookie dough!
Came here after another ice cream spot had a huge line outside. There was a line here too--but we stayed. Interesting ice cream flavors for sure, but you can sample them before choosing. Not much room to enjoy your ice cream inside, but plenty of space out front. Will come back to try other flavors.
A nice new Salt & Straw. Looks like this is the biggest store they have ever built. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up with the summer tourist rush. If you've never had Salt & Straw, I am sorry for you. You should.
Passing by this place I was like ohh ice cream, and my family and I cannot resist some sweets. So it is a corner store on Pike St so it did have a bit of a line, inside the line snakes but it moves at a decent speed. Several employees are there to call you up and they ask if you want to sample anything. I like that they give you a sample on an actual little spoon and they have the little holes to drop the empty spoon. My husband and I tried the Huckleberry Oat Crisp with Foraged Porcini. I thought it was pretty good and had very little Porcini but he on the other hand said he had too much. So then I sampled some more and settled on Raspberry Marzipan Princess Cake and oh my goodness it was so fresh and thick and delicious. He ended up with Strawberry Pretzel Salad and it has a rich cream cheese feel with burst of strawberries. My youngest(4yo) got a Hazulnet cookies and Cream- he was a little surprised about the random hazelnut piece but after he wanted more of them. And my 8yo got a Chocolate Gooey Brownie- he doesn't normally like chocolate ice cream but I have never seen him devour something so fast. Pricing was a little steep for ice cream but I think it was worth the price for the creativity and quality of the ice cream. I did join the rewards program but since I don't have one near me I may never reap the benefits. All I took a picture of mine.
I was able to try their Tacolate and it was good! It came in a waffle cone shaped as a taco shell and covered with hard chocolate shell. The ice cream flavor was cinnamon like. You also get a sauce packet or jam like flavor and mango jalepano. This was definitely a unique experience. I liked the jam sauce, as it gave it a nicer and sweeter taste. The service was good! Staff was helpful, friendly and efficient. The ambiance was good. The place was clean. But there was only one seated table.
i have been meaning to try salt & straw ice cream shop for quite a while. they have really unique ice cream flavors. the one that stood out to me the most was the berry pie. i also tried the chocolate brownie which tasted more so as a good standard chocolate brownie. the berry pie had a sweet cream base, tasty bites of pie crust and berries, and i loved all the toppings. i got the smallest cone which was the perfect size, especially on a warm summer evening. overall, a little bit on the pricier side. for the quality of ice cream, def worth it. there was a very long line it did move fast. i would recommend checking out salt & straw!
New location near Pike Place! It was the only ice cream spot open late since we were craving ice cream in the area. I liked the seasonal strawberry tres leches I sampled a lot, but I always end up sticking with one of their chocolate flavors if available haha. There's a lot of space inside this one which is nice - the tables are standing though, not sitting.

Super friendly staff! You can have as many samples as you'd like but highly recommend their monthly flavors! This place used to be a Starbucks so it's relatively new! Visited during non-peak hours but might get really busy as it is in a high traffic tourist area! 5/5 - Pots of Gold and Rainbows / Snap n' Crackle Marshmallow Treats - These flavors will be super nostalgic if you grew up eating cereal! Sweet and a perfect fix for your ice cream dessert needs.

When I walked in to Salt and Straw I was overwhelmed by the variety of flavors they offer in ice cream and frozen dessert options; however, a friendly server generously recommended her favorites: the salted caramel and fudgey chocolate chip cookie dough. She let me and my guest try samples which added to our in store experience. As I watched them work behind the counter I could tell they were a solid team committed to positive guest experiences. In store there's a lot of standing room - the flow of foot traffic from the street to the store is straightforward. The best way to enjoy ice cream from Salt and Straw is to take it outside and sit at a public picnic table or bench nearby. read more
We are salt and straw fans. Love their rotating flavors and their unique regular flavors. Tried the tomato soup ice cream, but wouldn't recommend and didn't get it. Some flavors are too unique. We opted for the chocolate and a yuzu cheesecake. Was delish! Wished they had actual seating. They have these weird standing only tables. read more

I was so happy to see that Salt & Straw moved into the old Starbucks location across from Pike Place market. I had their ice cream years ago in Portland and was excited to have it again. The girl who helped me was super nice and let me try different ice creams. She also made recommendations on what to try. I ended up getting one scoop of berry forged slab pie and one scoop of sea salt and caramel ribbon. The ice cream was just as good as I remembered. If you're at the market and looking for ice cream, you should definitely stop in and give them a try. read more

Yum!!! Love how it smells like waffle cones right when you walk in. The staff are so friendly and so happy to give samples of the ice cream. I like how they have special flavors every month. Fresh and tasty ice cream. Great stop if you're in the area! read more
The ice cream was expensive, but that's to be expected with the location and economy. The folks here were nice and service was prompt. No lines though. We listened to the violinist play right outside, so that was a nice plus. There is only one table to sit at. Some standing area though. read more

We tried the Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache, Peppermint Cocoa with Crushed Candy Canes, and the Chewy Molasses Cookies with Rum Caramel. So good! read more
How amazing is the new Salt &Straw, very if you ask me. I love having more ice cream options around Pike place. I can't wait for summer. We happened upon the new Salt and Straw this weekend are were pleasantly surprised with no line. It is located in the old Starbucks. It's clean and presented just as the rest of their stores. I love the vibe. The employees are helpful friendly and encouraging to try the crazy flavors. We of course tried all the seasonal and came home with two pints and the chocotaco. The taco was my favorite item this time. I loved the sauce that came with it. We will be back many times. read more
Salt and Straw isn't just an ice cream shop--it's a tailored ice cream experience that demands your full attention and palate! From the moment I walked in, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Not knowing where to start, the staff recommend some based on their personal favorites. We ended up tasting ALL of the flavors and the staff's patience was nothing short of miraculous . Tasting all of their flavors might sound like a sugar-fueled marathon, but these folks were absolute champions, guiding me through each unique creation with the precision of a sommelier and the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store. All the flavors were all very good, so I won't recommend any specific flavor since everyone's preference will be different, but if it's not too crowded maybe try them all . I will say come with tim and come with curiosity, and get ready for an experience! Verdict: A must-visit for anyone who believes ice cream is an art form, not just a dessert. read more

Huge fan of salt and straw, and this was my first time trying their freckled mint chocolate chip flavor, which had a coconut and mint cream with chocolate chips. It was very refreshing, mildly sweet, and had a strong coconut flavor. Definitely my favorite flavor from Salt and Straw. read more

Salt is straw is alway amazing, but our experience at this location was ever better thanks to the wonderful employee Katrina! She was patient , helpful and great with suggesting flavors. Her personality added with the amazing ambiance of the restaurant created a fun and tasty experience. I can't wait to visit again! read more
I went to Salt & Straw with a couple of friends on a Saturday evening. There was a bit of a line when we arrived, but we didn't wait too long to be helped. The employees were so friendly--they kindly let us sample the options & answered our questions regarding their flavors. I ended up ordering a small cup of their strawwberry honey balsamic with black pepper & the cake batter chocolate fudge. I appreciate their eccentric flavors that are unique compared to the flavors in other ice cream shops. Would visit again! read more
On a recent trip to Seattle I was thrilled over my task of comparing creameries and Salt & Straw at Pike Place Market took the win. Don't let the winding line of people outside the building deter you, it moves faster than I would have thought possible. The S&S staff are serious when they say they don't mind if you want to sample every single flavor. If they did mind, I couldn't tell. Can I also try?...... Sure! With happy smiles and a non rushed pace. And with a real spoon with some weight on it. I think it's all part of a strategic seduction to the big dessert. Mystified me how that line moved like fire yet I was able to take my sweet time when it was my turn. These people are magicians! I chose one scoop Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip and one scoop Chocolate Gooey Brownie and both were delicious though I did wish I had more of the Freckled Mint. I can't say any amount of scoops would have been enough of that goodness! Yum! read more

Great staff and friendly environment. The salt and straw was perfect location right at the start of Pikes Place and the store has its classic Salt and Straw vibes and originality. I got 1 scoop of their limited expiring flavor and it was consistent and delicious. This specific Salt and Straw has so much space and room for you to hang out and theres even tables which isnt the norm so that was also a plus. Our server was so friendly and welcoming and gave us the samples we wanted to try. Ill definitely stop by here anytime I am at Pikes Place! read more
The new Salt & Straw location adds a charming pop of color to the corner of Pike Place with its bright red exterior, but it is truly the staff that brings the warmth. My partner and I sampled several flavors, and the wonderful gal assisting us was both patient and genuinely enthusiastic. She never rushed us and shared thoughtful little details about each flavor. I ordered the strawberry and coconut and the chocolate gooey brownie, and I loved it!! The service was amazing, Julian was really helpful and happy to serve! The ambiance is pretty nice and colorful. My dog motas enjoyed too!!! read more
Great new location for salt and straw! It's a big store right next to like place, so you can grab your ice cream and explore the market and waterfront park. The service was excellent, they let us try all the thanksgiving flavors before deciding and didn't rush us at all. Glad to have a new location close by! read more

If you like eccentric ice cream flavors and have an adventurous personality then this shop is for you. Great location in the heart of downtown Seattle, across the street from the historic Pike Place Market. If you're a local, visit now before summer 2026 otherwise, you'll have to deal with a soul crushing line come June-September. High walkability score. I took the light rail up here. It's really convenient since it's close to both Westlake and Symphony stations and within walking distance from regional bus stops. Larger square footage than their Capitol Hill location. Not a lot of seating but you can always check the First & Pike Public Space for chairs and tables or make your way to the Overlook Walk park and rest for a bit. The employee who helped me was really good about flavor suggestions. I didn't spend too much time sampling ice cream because I know staff can make good tips working in this touristy area. It was pretty busy. I chose the Chocolate Gooey Brownie. It was pretty good. Last winter I saw the red musical Christmas Truck cruising 1st Ave. Fluffy was hanging out near the Market too. Salt & Straw will fit right in bringing uniqueness, energy, and joy to this neighborhood. read more
