I'm actually a huge fan of this hole in the wall strip mall restaurant. The service is always fast and friendly and is well worth trying! The salsa is pretty good (considering I am a salsa snob and make homemade salsa) and the black bean dip provided with the salsa is amazing! The lunch menu is extremely affordable and valuable and I hope they never change it! The food is traditional but I've never had a bad meal here so as far as Mexican restaurants go, this is one we find ourselves craving every now and then. Anyplace that has a wait on a week night has to be good, and it is! Service is fanatastic, but the food is so much better! I love the black bean dip with the chips and salsa. This was darn good Tex-Mex though I did not notice much that really differentiated this from what I would consider a Mexican restaurant in Seattle. Seems as if Tex-Mex is really what we see as the normal in most parts of the country. There can always be some subtle differences; Mission-style burrito, and/or Taquerias that may focus on less-saucy/cheesy things. If you've had a plate that consists of rice, beans, 'entree' with cheese and/or sauce slathered on it you've had Tex-Mex. On to the foods! * Prompt and friendly service even though I was confused about bar seating. The bar is ONLY the bar and not the seating area around it. * You will be greeted with chips, salsa, & beans! (black bean dip this visit, nice and warm). Chips were crisp and tasted good (clean oil, enough salt, etc.), salsa was good. Did I mention they put out some bean dip? Amazing. * For my entree I went with Bistec a la Mexicana "Grilled flank steak strips sautéed with onions and tomatoes in a spicy molcajete and ranchero sauce". So I'm thinking the "spicy molcajete and ranchero sauce" means salsa + ranchero. It was good, it was spicy (not too, but spicier than I am used to receiving which for my tastes was fantastic), there was a LOT of food on my plate. The steak was tender though cut into fairly large chunks so I had to break it down a little more. * Rice was spot on. Tender and well seasoned, not overcooked (no one likes mushy rice, right?). * Beans tasted great. Well seasoned, not too loose, not too firm. * The included side guac was good, but a bit small. If I had room to finish everything on my plate I would have considered ordering an additional side of the guac. I think this place could be a considered a "can't go wrong" if you're in the area. If I lived within 10 minutes from here it would most likely become a regular place for me to get my fix when I'm not in the mood to make my own verde or ranchero sauce. Did I mention they provide free bean dip? Amazing. Could have been a 5 star .... Though what could use a little love are the bathrooms. The men's room looks "well used" and a deep cleaning and a coat of paint would do wonders. It's not "scary gas station" but it also wasn't that well maintained on my visit. I love this place. Great food. Chips are served with warm beans and salsa. The Fish Tacos, Enchiladas Verde, and Shrimp plates are wonderful. My wife loves the Beef Chili Rellello. Great margaritas - very well done! We tried the house frozen and loved it! The sour cream chicken was amazing - just like our last visit! A full big platter though! The fajita omelette was also great from the brunch menu, but the potatoes were very bland. They could have used some seasoning or perhaps could have been tipped. Off with some spicy fresh salsa with jalapeños. Loved the Huevos rancheros too! Saul was our waiter and he was friendly and nice! The same problem as before with the host - they really could use better training in welcoming patrons. Music is way too loud and have a headache! The food was good. Margaritas GREAT but the waitress sucked. I told her when I ordered my food I was going to need an order of beef enchiladas to go. And she acted like she didn't know what that meant. Then when she brought everyone's tickets she didn't bring mine. And when I asked for the food she said the kitchen was closed. So I asked for the manager and he said the same thing. Well I had 4 other people that heard me order and he just kinda blew it off. Eventually I got my food but the manager was an ass as well about it. I understand the kitchen being closed but I had already ordered that food. Then he tried to blame it on me. My husband and I have been here twice in a week because it is so good. The black bean dip that they bring out with the chips is to die for. The hot sauce is good and has a bit of spice. I've gotten tacos and the ground beef nachos and they were both really tasty. We have also gotten the two different kinds of queso which are both delicious. Went there as a group of 14 and nearly walked out of the restaurant after our food was on the table. The service is unbelievable! Waiter yelled at us for asking for things, SIMPLE THINGS--missing silverware, water refill, "are the 6 orders of fajitas supposed to come with tortillas?" Seriously, one of a kind service. Simply yelled at us and told us wait until he puts all the plates on the table! Then ignored us and walked away. We did not get the water, we did not get the silverware, we did not get the tortillas. We asked for his manager and the manager was our waiter on us for the remainder of the night, nice guy tried to make it right, but hard to get over such negativity.
