My only nitpicks are that the pizza is kinda hard to hold because of its flimsiness, which is just par for the course with this style of pizza, and the pepperoni was really greasy, which is par for the course for any pizza of any kind. Whenever I'm in West Bend and in need of a meal (assuming it's not for a fish fry on a Friday night), Sal's Pizzeria is always the first place I think of. On this particular visit I got my favorite: lasagna pizza with garlic knots. If you mix together the large dollops of sauce, meat, and ricotta cheese on the lasagna pizza, then close your eyes and take a bite, you'll almost forget you're eating pizza and not actual lasagna. It's heavenly. The garlic knots are soft and they don't skimp on the garlic. I'm also a big fan of their stuffed sausage and pepperoni pizza, which has mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese in it too with sauce on the side instead of in the pizza. My wife enjoys their mac and cheese pizza. The Sal's in West Bend is far superior to the one in Hartford. The slice selection in Hartford is usually very basic and limited in comparison and the garlic knots are smaller with less garlic on top. The Sal's in West Bend is worth the drive even if Hartford's location is closer to you. read more

Great service, super polite employees. They always have something. If you wait until they close you may not get the exact flavor you want because they sell out of a lot for good reason. Review from a13 July visit - Stopped in after a successful farmer's market shopping trip, as we have always wanted to visit this place and I am not sure why we waited so long after this visit. Reminds me of an East coast pizzeria, in that the way it is presented and then reheated in the oven prior to serving (although not all places do that). There are about 6 tables and a high top area for eating, not bad for a mostly to go spot, from what we can see that is. We both ordered the lunch special of a slice, garlic know and drink for $5, yep $5 and totally worth it! My wife ordered the gyro pizza which has a tziki sauce as the base, and topped with the usual gyro meat, tomatoes and onions. The slice was huge and after starting with the garlic know she was unable to finish the slice, maybe about half if that. I ordered a slice of their supreme pizza that had plenty of cheese and toppings, not to mention flavor. The red sauce had great flavor, that attention to detail is something that I really appreciate. There are several pizzeria's around my area and their red sauce is the most lacking part of the pizza, just plain marinara sauce at best. The slice was the perfect size, nice and big. The garlic knot is like a hybrid between a garlic knot and a roll, but it was tasty, I should have ordered a cup of sauce to accompany it. If we lived closer to West Bend we definitely be here more often! If you are up in the area you should check this place out. read more

Loved the pizza. Had a Sicilian deep dish with sausage and pepperoni and couldn't resist adding a slice of thin crust, cheese only. Both were great. The crust on the Sicilian was light and crunchy, delicious toppings. The cheese slice was perfect, tasty cheese, great sauce, nice crust. The "kitchen" team stood out to me. All four of the team moved like clockwork, a well oiled machine, doing whatever needed to be done. Take an order, move pizza in or out of the ovens, collecting payments. From behind the counter, backed by pizza ovens, busy as hell, the guy who took my order glanced over to our table asking if I needed anything. I watched one of the guys making pizzas, amazed at his craftsmanship. No really... forming the crust, adding toppings with precision, not stingy, tons of cheese. Nice job. Not many pizza options in West Bend for a good slice. Pretty much in my opinion it's Sal's, Michaleno's or Maricio's. Sal's is the only one that has that New York style type pie. Sal's is also the only one that offers pizza by the slice. Awesome deal being able to grab a slice and a soda with a garlic knot at lunch for $5. Getting a slice lets you figure out what you really like and what you may want to order a whole pie of at some point. The regular pizza does tend to be a little on the greasy side in the middle. That is the New York style after all. Fold it up and there's your slice. I'm somewhat partial to the Sicilian slice, with that thick crust. Great flavor & I really like that crust. Sal's offers delivery and the large pie easily feeds 4-5. Sal's is locally owned and operated with the owner there most days. It's great being able to support the local guy. He treats his customers right and sees that the employees do the same. As a sign on the menu reads " Damn right it's good pizza". read more

Well 5 stars then, pizza is way too greasy for those faint of heart, but it's open late and between the two best bars. Now I did move South one-stop before Milwaukee where I encountered Cedarburg Sal's... no way, not as good. Where both places have put my order in late, I was able to go back to the bar in West Bend, and Cedarburg just blows. It's thinner and greasier than CB and their kitchen is like 20 times better for better faster fresher stronger pizzas! =) Big Ass Slices, and you can even put Big Ass Ham on it if you like... We happened to be in West Bend over the weekend for a little league tournament. I'd never been there before. My husband and I ventured downtown for a bite as we had some time to kill. We stopped into Sal's for a slice and now I'm sad.... Sad that West Bend is 90 min. away from Madison because that was some seriously fabulous pizza, damn good in fact!!! I ordered a calzone-like slice that had a thin top crust in addition to the bottom crust with a filling that consisted of mozzarella, ricotta, sausage and pepperoni. SO amazing - creamy and crisp and chewy and salty and full of flavor! Dare I say, it was practically perfect! My slice was accompanied by a bright flavored and garlicky marinara for dipping that was so good it just drove the awesomeness factor through the roof! Hear me now and believe me later. We got delivery, so I can't speak to the experience in the restaurant itself. However, the guy on the phone was very friendly and they had no issues with delivering to our location on the outskirts of town. We ordered one of their stuffed pizzas and some cannolis. The large pizza was massive; I think we gnawed on it for four days afterward. It was very good and arrived hot with marinara on the side for dipping (no sauce actually inside the pizza). The cannolis were fabulous; they tasted like they were about 1000 calories each-- I don't want to know how close they really were! Given the option of these guys or the chain pizza delivery, I'll take Sal's any day. Will definitely have to try the normal pizzas next time. read more

Very upset with the pizza I received and the customer service when I called back. The pizza I received(1 of 3) had nearly all of the cheese and topping slid off the pizza. When I called back they offered to replace it which took an hour and 20 minutes. Apparently the order was put in the normal cycle. Pretty poor. When I called back to complain about the time I was given a $5 gift certificate after a $50 order. Pathetic. read more
