We spend a lot of time in the area and this was the first time we tried Sal's. It was amazing! Those pesto breadsticks were magical and the pizza was the perfect thickness of crust for my taste. Sal's is a great place to pick up a slice of pizza for lunch. The pizza is nice and thin and the crust is the perfect crunchy, chewy that I like. They also have chicken Parmesan which I haven't tried yet. Not much for atmosphere, but tables were nice and clean. I wish they had a bike rack since they are in downtown Cotati. Staying at Graton for the long weekend and decided to go here tonight instead of the same ol' fast food you could get anywhere. My wife and I are so glad we did because they make a really good pie here. We got a pepperoni, ricotta, red onion, and garlic pizza and boy was it good. They add the perfect amount of toppings here and the crust has the perfect crisp and chew. Staff was also really nice and on point. I called and was quoted 15 mins and when i got there 15 mins later the pizza was freshly coming out of the oven. Will definitely be back when in the area and will recommend to friends that often go to Graton. read more

Just moved to Rohnert Park 2 days ago chasing our children and grandchildren up the North Bay in order to "help out' and be close. We love NY pizza and my wife noticed Sal's in Cotati on YELP with "high marks". We are so pleased. The 2 pizzas are GREAT! My wife had the veggie and I had the pepperoni, sausage and mushroom. We will be eating pizza for a couple days since we are too old and tired from moving. I love the crust. Met the "family" at Sal's and they were all so friendly and helpful. Its a pizzeria. Straightforward, nothing fancy. Small but clean and comfortable dining area. Easy to read menu with a good assortment of basic pizza ingredients, house pizzas and a handful of some trendier pizza items; plus various appetizers, sandwiches and calzones (check out their web page for a complete menu). Service is wonderfully attentive. While we were there, they had a crush of pickup and takeout orders and they handled it quickly and without a hitch. Don't get the Caesar salad and especially don't add the optional anchovies. We asked for the anchovies and although they threw on plenty of anchovies, the little fishy fillets were chewier, saltier and stronger than they should be for salad use. Sal -- if you're reading this, either use a more delicate fillet of anchovy (such as a Spanish white) for the salad or let the fillets soak in some milk for a while to temper the saltiness and chewiness. What you have aren't bad for adding some umami to a pizza -- in moderation, of course -- but these are overpowering on this salad. Or maybe don't even offer them as a salad option; Chef Caesar Cardini didn't put them on his salad, as you know, and you shouldn't perpetuate this convention, either. (Don't tell my wife I said so; she loves anchovies.) Also, the salad was way overdressed; when I read where the menu said "...served WITH a Caesar dressing," I mistakenly thought it meant on the side; I should have asked for clarification. The star was the pizza, as it should be. Possibly the best we've had in the whole area (from north side of Santa Rosa to Petaluma). Good crust, good sauce, good toppings (we Sicilians would like a wee bit more fennel seed in the sausage, please) and well-cooked. No skimping here. We topped it off with their cannoli. It was pretty darn close to what my grandmother and mother used to make. The shell was a touch too thick but tasty. The filling was an authentic strained and whipped ricotta mousse with enough chocolate chips for fun. I didn't need the chocolate drizzle nor the maraschino cherries but I appreciate their plating show for the tourists. There's plenty of pizza places in this greater area. Too many of them are overly trendy and/or pretentious and/or expensive (or all of the above?) and too many of the others are crappy dives. Sal's is, as I said, a really good small place with a no-nonsense approach and a top-notch pizza. read more

I ordered a medium pizza and the crust was dry, nothing special about the taste, much ado about nothing on this pizza. I recommend they go to Marys and see how to make a rockin pizza. My wife and I are from New York, Brooklyn & Queens to be exact and we are constantly looking for good pizza like we would find back home. Whenever I see a store front sign or advertisement for "New York style pizza" it generally sends up a signal of beware. I have been fooled many, many times before. That is until tonight. Sal's is the real deal and it comes as close to New York pizza as any pizza I have had in California. The crust is perfect, sauce and toppings are superb. The staff was very friendly. I almost gave it 4 stars instead of 5 but most people come for the pizza. Having said that, the only minus was the cannoli. It was okay, but not like New York cannoli. The ricotta was too runny and they weren't stuffed with enough filling. I have had worse, but still not up to par. read more

This is our favorite local pizza place. We eat here all the time, usually pickup. I got on here to leave a bad review because of our experience yesterday but then I remembered all of the good experiences we have had so I'm going with 4 stars instead of 5. Last night, our order wasn't even started when we went to pick it up. The pizza was undercooked, and there were slimy expired cucumbers in our salad. The best pizza and service in Rohnert/Cotati. Every time i go to Sal's they never disappoint. Even the pretty young gals are very nice. Sal service is on point you get that family feel inside. No pretty gals acting stuck up stuck on there cell phones giving attitude. Like you interrupted there conversation lol. The food is so good i think i would tolerate it, if service was bad. The crust on the pizza is very good probably the best I've tried ever. Ingredients all ways taste fresh. I wonder if there produce is source locally. I guess my wife feels different about the service. She has walk in to Sal's and got the complete opposite service. She said one of the girls ignored her for a while, focused on customers dinning in. I had a couple bad experiences a few months back and they handled it better than anybody could hope for in a similar situation. I wrote a negative review because my food was delivered late burnt and cold. When I called to check on the pizza before it was delivered and when I called back to complain I was met with pure apathy. So I write a negative review. The owner responded to me promptly and thoroughly. She took my complaint very seriously and made every effort to quell it. Since our exchange I have eaten here several times since and it has been excellent every time and the staff has been helpful. My only regret is that it took me so long to change my review back. Raw chicken!! Just went to dinner here tonight hoping for great pizza based off the reviews. Worst experience ever, we ordered chicken tenders for our young boys (6 and 3) which to my absolute horror I realized after several bites was undercooked!! So much so that it was literally raw in many of the pieces. I have never thought to check the doneness of Chicken tenders, how do you mess that up??!! I was totally disgusted and am completely beside myself waiting and worrying to see if my boys come down with salmonella poisoning.
