It's hard to say how I feel about this place, because it was cheap, it, ummm, hit the spot, and I'm not sick from it or anything bad... but, It just wasn't that great. Sure, a huge calzone for $6 is all cool and good, but the calzone isn't really that great. "Lasagna meal" plates that have been sitting there all day. Sal's is by far, my favorite Pizza in Chelmsford area. I do not understand how many locals prefer ordinary "pub pizza" or worse, "cardboard pizza" from other local pizzerias. I ordered a large Chicken Salad wrap today, my party's other orders were reheated pizza slices. The pizza slices were fine but my chicken salad was awful, let me count the ways: 1. It came out much later than the pizza slices, the lady behind us got her sandwich order way before mine. 2. The walnuts in the salad were whole pieces, they weren't chopped into smaller pieces and it had that rancid taste of being stored away too long. 3. The cranberries were hard and dry - tasted like they just sprinkled the dried cranberries onto the salad right before they made it. 4. Half way through the wrap, I bit into something hard, I thought it may have been a chicken bone, but instead, it was a plastic tab used on securing the bread sleeve or in this case, probably where the wraps were kept. I showed the cook behind the counter, he asked if I wanted another one, I said NO way. He did not offer a comp for that awful sandwich. I was very disappointed, we usually enjoy eating at Sal's onnce in a while, but Yuck, probably won't be back now. read more

Cheap, pretty good pizza. The dough has a crunchy chewy texture. A few slices will hurt your jaw but it's so tasty that it's worth it. A large and i mean LARGE (at least 3 hungry 21 year olds) cheese is somewhere between $10-12 i think. I've never tried their subs or salads so I can't comment on those. My go to pizza is the chicken and broccoli one. The interior is spacious and clean. There are multiple tvs up usually showing sports while you wait. The line is never too bad and a pizza takes about 15 minutes. PS, They have Sam Adams on tap. Winner. read more

This is hit or miss. Slices are tough if they don't have a lot of volume in a location. I've had some slices that were very dry and tasted more like garnished cardboard. Their fresh slices are very good and ordering a fresh one or whole pizza will mitigate issues of quality. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Back in the early 00s and earlier this pizza was for lunch at my high school. It was good consistent but not the best. I come here on my lunch break quite a bit. The pizza is always good no matter what toppings I end up choosing. The service is usually pretty good, the people are friendly and efficient. Their subs are really good, but for some reason it takes over a half hour to get one. So if you're in a hurry, order the pre made slices. probably the best most consistent pizza in the merrimack valley. they can get a little soft when you add too many toppings but if you request it well done things will be just fine. itz a huge pie and they don't skimp on the toppings. my only wish is that they offered delivery. read more

So we gave Sal's takeout pizza another chance tonight. Another FAIL. I'm done, I won't be back. It seems EVERY TIME we order a pizza it's just disgustingly soggy, despite the fact that I ask for a crispy crust. It doesn't matter what type topping we order... Always soggy. So here's the confusing part. I've been in the shop for a slice and for sandwiches. They are actually quite good. Order a slice (2) and the crust is actually quite good, well except for the huge bubble crust at the edge. Their turkey club and fries are very good. So, at the end of the day, it's a consistency issue. While I might be back for an in shop lunch at some point, I will never order another pizza there. Too bad. read more

I ordered a gluten free pizza with green peppers and onions. I think they forgot to cook the pizza! The onions and peppers were 100% raw and cold. The crust was on the raw side though the little bit of sauce and cheese was room temperature. If this is how they do business I can't imagine how they have stayed opened all these years. What is up with the service?? Tons of employees working and they can't get an order right? We have been there several times and each time, they have screwed up on our order or forgot something! INEFFICIENT! The employees have no personalities and look like they don't want to be there. If you make a mistake on an order or if something is taking too long, apologize or offer something for free! Don't just stand there. So far my favorite pizza place in the Lowell, Chelmsford, Billerica area. I have had 14 different specialty pizzas from them. Some of the flavors I did not like as much but had never tried at any pizza place before. The vast majority of them have been mind-blowingly amazing. My favorites are BBQ Chicken, Mushroom Florentine, Meatlovers, and Kabobeque. The later I believe was a special that was only offered during the summer time. Very disappointing because it might be my favorite overall from them. The Kabobeque had grilled marinated chicken, red onions, green peppers, and cherry tomatoes. I have also had there two dessert pizzas. I do not remember the name of my favorite of the two options but it had light mozzarella cheese, cookie dough, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, and powdered sugar. The flavor is so unique and delicious I cannot compare it to any other type of food flavor. It simply must be tried. All in all the pizza is a little pricy but it is well worth it. The food is fine, I really like their wraps. But I'm giving a two star review because I wanted BBQ chicken pizza, the girl grabbed a slice to heat up and was ready to ring us out. I said, "oh, I actually wanted two slices." The audacity of me - this is my lunch and dinner for tonight. She said, "do you know how big our slices are?" I said "yes." Okay. I decided to write corporate after my experience last month and to make a long story longer, I was contacted by Chuck who is in charge of Training and Development. His email was everything customer service is about. He apologized and offered me a $20 gift card to give them another try. I did accept the card since my boss still had a "hankering"for the BBQ chicken pizza. And a happy boss is well....happy! We had a meeting yesterday, so I decided to try it again. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and a pepperoni pizza. I was told 15-20 minutes (the usual for a pizza) and headed off to pick them up (I hate that they don't have delivery). I got there and was waited on within a few minutes (still seemed a bit short staffed to me). I asked to please see the pizzas before I left and they were correct! YIPPEE!! I gave them the $20 giftcard and owed another $10.50. Yes, all in all $30.50 for 2 pizzas but they are 19" and the slices are huge. Needless to say, the BBQ was the best I've had from here in the past 2+ yrs. I've been going. I will definietly go back, but I will also yelp if they do me wrong! read more

Have had the subs here a couple of times and enjoyed them, so we decided to try the pizza last weekend. What a disappointment. The clerk tried to charge us extra for switching one veggie for another, but the manager took care of it, but only because I said something. The pizza was a big, soggy, flavorless mess - barely any cheese or sauce on it. For the life of me we couldn't figure out why it was completely soggy except to wonder if the veggies weren't drained well after being rinsed before being added to the pie? Yikes!!! This place gave me the creeps! I ate there when I was going to school at Umass Lowell..thinking it was cheap enough. Well the saying "you get what you pay for" really proves true here! I got calzone and a spinach and cheese omelet/quiche..both of which were cold and crusty upon opening...they seemed as though they were left on a counter for the whole day. The people that worked there seemed as though they weren't old enough to cross the street by themselves (at least when I went there)...and did not care about what they were doing or who they were serving!!!
