I pass every day on my way to work by Sal's, always wanted to try their food, so we decided with some coworkers to finally try it out. I will say the food options are fantastic as well as the food BUT the service not so good!! I asked for salad the girl seemed bother, as I was standing in line to see the employees give attitude to another customer. At the time of payment I realized I didn't get croutons I asked the girl at the register even thought she was not doing anything else she told me to go back and asked the other bother employee who was bother again when I asked for croutons, she asked me to wait while she finished talking to another employee in Spanish about their personal life. My co-worker asked for pizza, she was handed a pizza box dirty underneath when she communicated that was dirty, they pointed to the napkins. So from what I have heard and tasted the food is pretty good! I tried this the last time I was in the Humc fitness and wellness center and enjoyed it very much! I'm a build your own salad kind of a gal, and that's what I had last time. I feel like they could include more choices to go into my $9 + salad, but that's just me... I wish this place was better, as it has the potential to be great, but fails due to the people who run it. Food: The food itself is pretty good. quality ingredients are used(most of the time), and the dishes and sandwiches they come up with are well though out. The problem comes with consistency. Depending on who ends up working on your order, the meal you get will be very different from what you got if you ordered the exact same thing the day before. It's like the wild west behind that counter, and core ingredients that make the dish are often forgotten. This is quite a let down if you come in and find something you like, only to order it the next day and find that it is not the same as it was the day before. A real turn off. Also some of the daily specials are a bit wacky. Not everything needs or goes with some sort of flavored mayonnaise. Also, the panini machine is garbage and they use it poorly. If you want rock hard bread with a cold sandwich middle, get a panini. How can you put cold ingredients on thick bread and expect the panini machine to heat it up uniformly without turning the bread to stone. Organization: This is where the place truly fails. The way a customer moves through the place is the most frustrating and disorganized experience I've ever had in a luncheon establishment. You have a choice of either ordering something at the check in point at the beginning of the tray line, or moving down the line and either stopping the the hot foods area and ordering there, or at the salad section 2 steps farther down and ordering from there. This creates 3 separate lines all converging on 1 check out line. Now this would not necessarily be a problem, but the cashiers, and there are only 2 of them, are foolishly tasked with both expediting and further fulfilling other orders such filling up soup bowls. Since they have to expedite the ordered food from the 1st ordering station(the other 2 ordering stations give the customer their food as they approach the register), the act of expediting is basically non-existent when there are more than 3 customers in the place. I cant even say how many times I've stood in the waiting area for over 15 min for a simple cold sandwich to be made, or have stood on a non-moving checkout line while the cashiers run around to do other things. On top off all that, they have to deal with phoned-in pickup and delivery orders too. Management: What makes this the worst of all, is that the owner, Josie, just stands at the back of the place and schmoozes with regular customers, seemingly completely oblivious to whats going on up front at the register. Josie, why don't you actually manage the place and stand behind the register and make sure orders are filled in a timely manner or making sure each order is made consistently according to the recipe. Asking how I am when i come in does not get me my food faster, or ensure its quality. The cashiers have too much on their hands to do this properly. Also, the people you hire are generally incompetent. Aside from George, who is THE MAN and the place's only saving grace, the other employees seem like rejects from a temp agency with no food service experience, and the place is severely understaffed. Josie, you seem to treat this place like a hobby rather than a business. Food Prices: 75% of the items on the menu are $2-$4 more expensive than they should be, especially the salads. A small salad with chicken should not cost $9 and then also be limited to 4 add-ins regardless of what it is. Add-ins like carrots, onions, peppers and tomatoes, along with other common salad add-ins, should not be limited. You can have a second group of premium add-ins that can cost extra, but not the usual stuff. Also 2 slices of chopped chicken does not cost $4. The place is not high end enough to command that kind of pricing. It should be $1.50 to $2.00 max on the base salad price. Having said all this, the ingredients are generally good and food is mostly fresh, mostly. Conclusion: I wish this place was run better. I truly do. It is so convenient to just walk 1 block down Green St from where I work to get my lunch. But having done just that, only to spend the better half of 30 min waiting for a simple order even when the place is not busy, and then finding more often than not that my food was made incorrectly or inconsistently between visits have turned me off to the place, and i used to go there on a daily basis for several years. I had actually stopped going there for some time, but then ended up needing to get food quickly the other day, so i went there and to my dismay, nothing had changed from my previous experiences. At the office, we joke about it all too, on how poorly the place is run. its kind of a running gag. This place is the definition of "hit or miss" and the misses are just too frequent to go back. All I can say is WOW and FINALLY. A good place to eat near Teterboro airport!!! Quality food, fresh eats and a nice, organized, friendly staff. They have different salads with toppings. You have your pick of toppings -- avocado, nuts, eggs, cheese, corn, beans, olives, etc. They toss it for you too with the dressing of your choice and there's lots of dressings to choose from as well. They also have pastries, hot foods, pizza... Everything is clean and organized. This place runs like a well-oiled machine. I recommend it to local people in a heartbeat! read more

I have been eager to try out Sal's and finally made it there today. It's an upscale luncheonette. Super clean inside. Owner/manager (not exactly sure) was right on top of everything. I was a bit thrown off by the ordering system.for the sandwiches. You place your order, get a ticket. Bring it up to the register, pay and get a buzzer. When it buzzes head up to the register to get your food. The staff was very helpful. I ordered the Turkey Cuban Panini. It was pretty good. They gave me a ton of pickles. I'd probably get something else next time. They have a big selection. As a first timer I was a little overwhelmed by it. The pre-made items looked interesting. Agree with a lot of the recent reviews, this place has gone downhill. I work in the area and they have a wide variety so I end up here with coworkers. Last few times my order has been wrong or cooked poorly. Seems a lot of staff have changed as well. Im being generous. Ive been to sal's on green st. (Look out for their sign) and had breakfast and it was decent. Came to the sals at my gym and had a grilled cheese that was good, although it took forever! Today, I had a $10 (okay $9.40) small salad (chicken ceaser) and it was really, really not good. I blame it on the chicken. It felt like canned, bland chicken with way too much of a spice thrown on. For 9.40 I can get an enormous, delicious, real chicken, salad with a free water at Maywood Market. Sorry, sal's. I wasn't impressed. Ill def. I walked in and looked a little confused as it was my first time visiting. After a minute or so I was greeted by a lady that noticed my confusion. She walked me through the menu options and was very polite. I ended up choosing the hot plate for lunch (grilled chicken breast, yellow rice, and steamed veggies). It was delicious! Probably the WORST experience I've ever had in regards to a restaurant establishment--and I'm quite the foodie. My father and I walked into this eatery about a month back, and we still remember the incredibly terrible service we received there. My father's first language is not English, and the employees behind the counter were openly laughing at him as he inquired about certain menu items/what was deemed as popular in the crowd. And certain other employees seemed to have a sharp attitude with he and I which very much seemed fueled by our middle-eastern descent. I was appalled at the treatment we received--it seemed a judgement was passed over us without any consideration. My father has worked in medicine for over 25 years and I'm a junior at Harvard University. On top of that, we had to wait 20+ minutes for our food. We ordered a pizza and fries--assuming it'd be enough to satisfy us and my mother, who was waiting in the car. The pizza was almost inedible and had a strong, foul odor--presumably from the intense amount of cheese that was piled up onto it. And the fries? McDonald's fries on a really bad day have tasted better. Considering we paid around $20 for this is just unsettling. My father and I felt humiliated and unwelcome at Sal's, which is rather upsetting considering we live only a few minutes away and were really hoping that this could be our new close-to-home restaurant of choice. I grabbed sweet potato pancakes on the way out and I'm totally glad I did. Got three nicely sized pancakes for about $5 and they're delicious. Have had food from there before and loved it, place a large order for delivery, order was wrong on so many levels. When they were told it was wrong they refused to fix it. Came with 3 drinks missing, a sandwich missing and another one with only a little bit of meat on it. After them not rectifying this we will never recommend or order from them. They never seem to get it right. All I wanted was a Omelette without Ham, Potatoes and Bread. I asked them specifically to "Hold the ham, Potatoes and bread. Please add bacon but I would like the strips to be whole." I am not sure what's difficult about that. In addition to "Please add extra bacon to the omelette order as side if possible."
