I honestly think this is the first negative review I've ever written, which makes this even more disappointing. I'm new to the area and was genuinely happy to finally find a decent salon. Natalie did a great job, and I was looking forward to continuing as a regular client - 3rd time. Unfortunately, the scheduling experience was really bad. I booked my appointment directly through their website using an available time slot. Today I received an automated text message (not even a phone call) saying my appointment had been moved 30 minutes earlier. That earlier time simply did not work for me -- I'm traveling these Friday and had scheduled this very intentionally. So I called the salon myself to clarify and explained that this was the only time I could do it and that I didn't have flexibility or time to look for another place. Instead of trying to work with me or offer any solution that works for me, the person I spoke to just cancelled my appointment entirely. It's a shame, because the stylist was great, but the scheduling and customer service completely ruined the experience. Finding a salon you trust is hard enough -- being treated this way makes it not worth the stress. read more

I have tried Salon West based on reviews available on Yelp. It's a few times of services that I experienced post which I have now decided to write a fair and balanced review. Foremost, the salon is equipped to provide cuts, however on specialised services especially such as a good blowdry, colouring jobs, balayage (an expensive but a very trendy highlight style), I can confidently say, not many of their suggested staff members can deliver. I spent 11-12 hours over 3 visits across different stylists, a lot of money and tips given, but unfortunately till date I have achieved just a global coloured hair (having paid for balayage plus extras which I don't know what they have charged me for, and without explanation too. Infact later when I checked with Tj as to what that was charged for she said it should not have been charged and I can use a service worth that amount, so my extra paid was not returned to me, despite her acknowledging it was not to be charged in the first place). My balayage look is lost till I get into the whole process again. Funnily enough, they now ask me to come back a few more times (for more paid jobs), before they say they can have the balayage in place. I have been getting this style done before and it takes one visit, 2-3 hours maximum and voila, no problems I have faced ever. And now I am at a loss as to what Salon West was doing over last 3 visits :((. Here despite them having a reference point (my previous style pictures) all along, they are not able to deliver and are absolutely okay about asking me to come again n again (spending more).. Also, regarding 'yelp coupon' that one gets on the first check in at the salon, (which I did not avail at all), I did try to redeem one of the days when it was a super hot day and what I came for to get done in 2 hrs took them 6 hrs, thus I asked if they can redeem the wine/beer Yelp coupon. Not only they looked shocked but were quite smug about it & said they are aware of no such thing, however I am free to pick up whatever I want as they have things in the refrigerator. Well, after that look and response I neither felt like asking for a glass of water from them leave aside a glass of wine/beer, nor looked to use that coupon even during my next 2 visits. I guess now I am done with Salon West having spent so much wasted time, efforts and wasted money. Will not recommend the salon at all after what I experienced both in terms of expertise and courtesies. read more

I came in with hair three inches below shoulders, asking for a long bob with pictures. We discussed cutting it just above the shoulders. I ended up with the worst haircut of my life. Not only was it nowhere near the length I asked for, instead shorter than chin length, the stylist, Montana, said it was the length we discussed, it had just curled. She wanted to straight iron it to show how it was the length we discussed, the back is cut to the name of my neck, no straight iron was going to fix that. She didn't charge me, which was nice I guess but I will either have to get a wig or do something because this is the worst haircut ever. I did straighten it when I got home. It's choppy, uneven, literally I could have done better myself. I have seen other stylists at Salon West and been happy, but now I will never return. read more

after trying several different stylists and coming away disappointed with just about all of them, Found Salon West on the internet. Stopped by to make an appointment in person, and was impressed by the atmosphere, and happy vibe. The lady at the counter recommended I book with Joey for the cut I was after, and she was able to get me in with him about 2 hours later, the SAME DAY! I went for lunch and received a reminder text shortly before my appointment time. When I arrived, I discussed the cut I wanted with Joey, and within 20 minutes walked out with the exact cut, and look I had been after, that the previous stylists just couldnt seem to ever provide. The real test was the following day, when I was able to duplicate the look, by myself!! Super happy that Joey gave me the exact cut I was after, and looking forward to another touch up with him soon!! Thanks Joey!! read more

My hair was fried by Alex the first time i came. She seemed like she was rushing as usually my hair is long and thick. She made a short cut and didn't weave my hair but just split it in half making it look like i have skunk highlights. I told her and she was able to "fix" it in a few days which was a mistake. My hair was white and over bleached having bad chemical cuts looking like i was electrocuted. My hair broke and was no longer long or thick. My hair was so damaged I didn't even know what to do. I paid $161 including tip for a partial which was more expensive than natalie's full. I lost my healthy long hair to short broken hair which was upsetting as I love my hair. Natalie SAVED my hair. She is amazing and I will keep going to her!! Her highlights are amazing and super fine i totally recommend going to her 100%. She does an amazing job and takes her time to make sure it's good. I love a bright blonde and she gets it there all the time but still making sure it's healthy. Recommending me products that does wonders as well! She's super friendly and funny. I will not go to anyone else but natalie, absolutely love her!! read more

First time visiting this salon! After a decent amount of time letting my hair grow, I felt it was about time to chop it off. (It was down to my waist!) I scheduled an appointment with Alex to help me achieve my hair dreams. I arrived on time and Alex was ready for action! The session started with me explaining what I had envisioned for myself and Alex helped me understand the process that she'd take to get the desired look! Not only was Alex very sweet and fun to talk to, but she is very knowledgeable about hair and products! I felt like I was in really good hands as each product she used she had explained what it was and what it did. She also had zero hesitation on showing me methods to achieve a good curl and even explained what products work for my hair and what she suggested to stay away from! Overall, I am SO very happy to have found her! I plan on recommending her to everyone I know. I most definitely will be coming back, my hair looks and feels amazing! I've been looking for a good hairdresser for a long time. I saw Sydney a few weeks ago to have my hair colored and cut. She insisted on stripping out the henna that had been put in my hair before. She also conditioned my hair I liked that she was very cautious and wanted to make sure my hair took the color without damaging it. I finally got to the place where I could color. It doesn't show as well in my picture, but it is purple and blue which is exactly what I wanted and I really like the results. read more

I am not one to complain about a haircut but this one blew my mind. I showed the stylist a photo of what I wanted (medium length with curtain bangs). Instead I got a very short and choppy a-line bob? My hair was very long beforehand and I spent a long time finding a style I wanted before I decided to chop a lot off. I am extremely disappointed with what I got, $50 down the drain and now I'll have to wait a few months for this to grow out before I can get what I actually wanted from a stylist who actually cares. Not only is this salon nice and clean with a great ambiance, the staff is amazing. Jazmin is my go-to for many reasons! She's friendly, funny, and delivers exactly what you ask for! She takes great care and is precise. My husband also has wonderful things to say about this salon, in fact, he recommended it to me! Very disappointing spray tan. Thank god it wasn't for something important! It seems like there needs to be more training? I had several spots that were completely missed, the bottoms of my feet were black from stepping in spray tan residue left on the floor, and there were splotches all over my body. I've given myself significantly better tans with Cocoa and Eve at home. If you are getting married or have an important event I would highly recommend going somewhere else unless you do a test beforehand. read more

Joey is an exceptional color stylist. I had gray roots and box color on the rest of my hair, so he had his work cut out for him. Ever the pro, he used the brown I had as a foundation upon which to layer in the updated brown, along with woven highlights. Not only did the color come out great, he did this in 2 hours! Recently moved to Santa Rosa and wanted to find a local Salon. I'm glad that Salon West is so close! The woman who took my reservation was very nice, my hairdresser Joey seems pretty cool. He listened to what I was looking for and checked in with me along the way. It's been over a week now and I'm still happy with this cut. I also like the pricing- more expensive than large chains, but much more affordable than a lot of the Luxury salons in the area. My haircut with shampoo & wash was $50. Sydney Barragan is amazing! I read her profile (https://www.salonwestnow.com/sydney-barragan) and Thought she was the stylist for me -- I have mature hair that is beginning to get finer and thinner. After seeing her for my first appointment, I Know she is the person for me. She listened to my needs (low maintenance) and did a great job advising a cut that takes into consideration my hair, my face shape, etc. She then styled it in a way I can do myself. On top of that she is a lovely person. I highly recommend her. I also highly recommend Salon West. It is an attractive and very welcoming salon (and very clean). The staff are also very organized and quickly follow up with return calls, appointment confirmations, and reminders. What a great find! read more

I decided to grow out my gray hair. I had a Pixie at the time but also, wanted to grow my hair out shoulder length. Everything was going well until I had about 4" of gray and then the dyed brown/orangey ends. I finally broke down and decided to get it fixed. I went to Sydney and my God she did an amazing job. Ohhh myyyy ... I've a new "go-to" stylist and it's Genny at Salon West! What a pleasant experience from start to finish I had with her on my first appointment. You need to know I don't have "problem" hair, but I am very particular about what I want from my stylist. I have come to expect NOT being "fully satisfied" given the numerous salons I've sought out over the years; this despite showing pictures, discussing preferences, and deliberating over choices and yet still being disappointed with the outcome. I've usually given stylists several opportunities to get it right, but it's typically been hit or miss with me leaving the salon feeling so-so about my hair and wanting to get home to "do it my way" and make it better. Well, it seems I won't be having those anxieties again... Genny listened as I gave her the low down on all of my preferences, even on the extra rise I wanted. I had booked a partial highlight and cut, and I could tell from the deft way she used her comb to finely section my hair that this was an artist at work. I too am detail-minded, and I was impressed and immediately felt comfortable under her care, curious and hopeful for a good turn out. Our pleasant conversation made the time go by, and each step along the way while my highlights processed was carefully monitored, from chair to rinse bowl to chair again. My first look in the mirror (after my hair was perfectly rinsed) gave my heart a lift. I can always tell when the blond color is off but Genny had nailed it on the first go-round. Again I was impressed and continued to be, through her trimming, drying, and styling of my hair. I was very pleased indeed! Haircare can be costly, but I won't be feeling like I wasted my money any longer, not now that I've FINALLY found my "go-to" girl in Genny. This amazing salon is tucked into a little strip mall, but it's the best one in Sonoma County! Everyone at this salon is talented, but I've been going to Kara for YEARS. She does an amazing job--a perfectionist when it comes to her clients hair.
