Absolutely horrible experience today. I was suggested to visit Salon Visage by a friend. I called abs explained thoroughly on the phone what I was looking for & that I wanted a consultation. I expressed to the receptionist that I'm apprehensive due to a bad experience at another salon AND I'm a perfectionist. This is when Thom, one of the owners was suggested to me by the receptionist. Great. I booked my consult and arrived on time. I was told Thom was running about 15 minutes behind when I arrived - no big deal. Thom introduces himself to me & I proceed to explain the look I'm going for. I show him pictures and explain the issue I had at my prior salon. I've always been led by my stylist once I explain the look I'm after. Thom acted completely uninterested and just kept saying I'd need to double process to get the look in the pictures or do what I have now. Okay. Cool. He even asked another stylist for her opinion. Not once did Thom touch my hair, try and create a rapport with me or make any suggestion as to HOW to achieve what I'm after except to say I couldn't unless I double processed and wanted a lot of upkeep. Thom gets up when I'm still talking and starts cleaning the work station next to my chair. He then says "I don't want to get into this. You can go to someone else. I am not doing your hair. You won't be happy." I was shocked. It's one thing to say to a client I don't think we can achieve what you are after but to approach a new client in that way,to say flat out I'm not working on you.. I was beyond insulted and taken aback. I said thank you for your time and left. The receptionist didn't say a word. Thom watched me walk out visibly upset. I've worked in the salon/spa industry for ten years. I am a perfectionist but I was willing to pay for the service. I was never disrespectful. The way I was treated today was NOT OKAY. I went straight to a different salon & they were very happy to guide me towards something that I'll be happy with. I wanted to share this because being in the field, I get turning a client away. I get saying we are in different pages & I can't achieve this look. I also get how to deliver that message in a respectful manner. Thom is one of the new owners & he needs to learn how to treat clients esp since he's one of the leads of the salon. Very disappointed & upset. read more

Ggiiirrllll..... This review is long overdue. First time going here was around 4 years ago. And I'll never forget it. I wanted side swept bangs and even though I'm Colombian, my hair is more like African texture so I asked to have a stylist who has experience with that texture. They gave me Jackie and she's just a sweetheart I'm actually sorry to see someone didn't have a good experience with her. That experience ended lovely. Now for the shitty review.... This is also long overdue but I stumbled upon their Yelp and just feel the need to let everyone know. Okay two years ago, my sister and I were going out on dates and to do a little something extra and to bond a little before the night arrived, we made appointments for just a simple wash and dry. First off, I forgot to mention our hair texture when I made the appointment. As soon as we walked in, we felt so out of our element. Not to bring race into this or anything but it just felt uncomfortable being the only colored people in that whole damn salon. Should've saw that as a red flag to be honest. We were greeted and were led to the washing station to begin the process. The problem started when we sat down in the styling chair. Again, not to bring race into this but this white girl didn't know how to work with my hair. I paid for a blow out and it was not sleek whatsoever. It was kinda frizzy and poofy. My sister had the same result too. And FYI, our hair was relaxed at the time. Why it somehow dried poofy is beyond me. The whole time I'm sitting there looking in the mirror thinking to myself how damn stupid I am to forget to ask for Jackie. But then at the same time how stupid of the lady doing my hair! If you honestly can't work with my hair texture then straight up tell me. I'll respect you 100% more than if you try to figure it out as you go. When she told me she was done with my hair, I almost laughed. My hair looked ridiculous. My sister and I asked for curls. And it's always these white salons that wanna charge an arm and a leg for every added thing. She said curls would be an extra $12. I didn't care because I prepared myself for these upcharges so I allowed her to curl my hair. Bruh..... I left that salon with my hair looking like a bird's nest. And on top of that it smelled burnt. I paid like $70 for burnt hair. I tipped $5 because $5 is what she deserved. The salon I go to in Newark was closed that day my sister and I arrived. Otherwise we'd gone there. First off, those $12 extra dollars I paid for "curls"? That's a whole wash, rollerset, and blow roots in Newark and if anything those $12 should've been deducted from my bill. But I didn't wanna make a fuss so I let it be. $70 for a terrible wash and blow and on top of that we came home and had to spray our hair with water and straighten it to fix the birds nest poof. Don't know the stylists name but her station was setup next the wall like next to that huge table area with those weird looking heating lamps. As a matter of fact, her station is right behind jackie's station. I'm giving this a one star because of my initial visit with Jackie but that's about it. Y'all suck. To be honest, you're not competent hair stylists if my relaxed hair comes out frizzy and poofy. Thanks for the overpriced burnt hair nest. read more
