I went to Renew Salon to go blonde again, like the owner Jeanine had done previously. I explained I wanted the same beautiful blonde. Natalie assured me Courtney could do it that day. This time, the process felt unprofessional. The salon was empty except for us three. After Courtney applied the foils, both stepped away and when they returned, I noticed a strong, skunk-like smell. With foils already in my hair, Courtney asked again what shade I wanted, even though I'd been clear from the start. I also had made it known that I have not had any dye or bleach since my last visit there. She called to the other stylist in the back for a 'shade book' which never appeared. Later, as she rinsed the bleach, she suddenly asked if I had color in my hair, noting it was coming out darker in some spots. This made me worry. When I raised concerns, they dismissed them. You can be the judge because I uploaded before and after photos. Once dried, my hair ended up a uniform brown rather than the blonde I requested. It looked like something I could have done at home with a box dye and the texture felt weird once I washed it at home. I had chosen a professional because bleaching is risky and I was finally ready to invest in maintaining blonde. The assistant called someone, perhaps the owner, seemingly unable to handle the situation themselves. No action no apology to fix the issue; instead, it was blamed on my hair being 'grayer' than last visit. Even if true, a professional should assess it accurately. More color was suggested, but I know color cannot lift color. With the chemicals already in my hair, I didn't want further damage especially immediately after this. I don't have a big, beautiful mane, I was just trying to maintain what little I have safely, paid full price and left frustrated. I enjoy leaving positive reviews, but I can't this time. That's why I took a "before" photo because I truly expected great results again. Three weeks later, I noticed my photos are no longer visible in the gallery. Because of that, I may need to share them elsewhere. I hope the information helps others. read more

I stopped by ReNew today on the recommendation of a coworker. I am in the market for a new salon now that we're moving, but today's mission was clear: I needed to trim off the dead spirits that have been living in my split ends. I went as a walk-in, and they were able to squeeze me in even though they looked busy. I mentioned that I didn't have much time and I just wanted a no-frills trim (no wash, blowout etc.) The woman at reception, Zana, was extremely friendly, personable and helpful. She suggested (in a non-pushy way) that I sign up for their rewards program, which I did and is actually really cool (other retailers use it too, it's called Belly). Lori was my stylist, and she was super sweet and quick - no awkward haircut conversation here! She suggested (again, not in a pushy way) a product for my hair, and I actually bought it and have already used it. Looks like I may have found my new hair salon! Good to note that they also do nails, waxing, facials and massage! Just make sure you have cash for a tip - they don't accept tips on a card, and the closest ATM is across the street. i recently went to this salon and thought it was really nice. I had been going to a salon in Chatham, NJ for 11 years but needed a change. Went to a couple in Summit, but they were both very expensive, and thought they did a nice job, but just more than I wanted to spend. A friend recommended the salon and two other former co-workers both of whom work close-ish to the salon, but don't live near it, go as well. The salon was quiet on a Saturday in August, but it was nicely appointed, the section for the wash was sectioned off from the cutters/colorists and the manicure/pedicure area was on the other side of the building.I liked that it was a nice ambiance. jeannine was super nice and friendly. She suggested the Brazilian blowout for my hair (have yet to decide). The first service is 20% off so my hair cut was only $33. Looking forward to go back to them. I didn't know how to tip for such a low price but tipped well. There's also a spa, but I haven't used any of their services. read more

Jeannine does a great job with cutting your hair perfectly. I've been growing out my hair for a few years now so I've only wanted the minimum cut off whenever I go there and Jeannine really can cut the minimum off unlike other hair salons that keep cutting it to even it. The staff of the salon is always very friendly - they greet you when you come in and offer you coffee, water, and snacks. They also aren't very pushy to get you to buy any of the salon products but will make product recommendations if you ask. read more

The hairdresser (in New Providence) cut my hair so short that it stood straight up, and then she said to me...."Oh, I cut it too short....YOU'LL have to do something about that...." So I did. I recently went to Renew Salon for the first time, and it was a great experience. I booked an appointment with Jeanine for a cut and color. She was very professional, as was the entire staff. My hair is curly and I have always had trouble finding someone who can cut curly hair really well. Jeanine is trained and certified with the Deva cutting style, which is a dry cut for curly hair. I have never had this cut before, and honestly, this was the BEST cut I've had in years. Jeanine was very consultative with me about what we were going to do with both the cut and color, and as a Senior Stylist (and owner), she took the time to show the Junior stylist her approach to the cut and color. The atmosphere in the salon was very professional yet relaxed - you could tell the the staff gets along well, and they all really seem to enjoy working there. I love Kristen. I'm really picky when it comes to my hair so my first visit I asked a million questions about her techniques products etc. She was very pleasant and answered them all with no problem. She knows her stuff and I'm never disappointed. Been to her twice (about to go a third time) and both times she somehow understood what I wanted and gave me exactly that. She is also very knowledgeable about hair and what may happen. I went from red to brown with highlights and she expected the highlights to come out a bit pink so she was ready with a toner (and guess what they were pink haha). By the time I left she achieved the impossible and got me to a brown with no brassiness (with a touch of red but not bad at all). By the second visit it was a perfect brown. As for the salon everyone is so friendly and polite. The offer me coffee once I walk through the door (and I love my coffee!). I was struggling to find a go to place and I'm so happy I found one. I went to get my nails done and, since I have unruly curly hair, to get a Deva cut. I had my nails done by Grace and she is a wonderful, sweet lady. We talked the entire time but I think she is also has a good gauge of when not to talk. She did a great job with my nails. After my nails I got my hair done by Kristen. She was amazing. Incredibly sweet and friendly and she did a wonderful job. I looked great walking out the door and two washes later my hair still looks great. That's hard to achieve. She never pushed any products on me and was very respectful of my time. I am definitely coming back to Kristen. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Worst salon ever. Spent over $600 for a smoothing treatment which I had to do twice because the first one didn't work and they blamed it on a "manufacturer defect" (it's Brazilian Blowout™ I've used before several times at other salons with no issues, so likely not the manufacturer). After the 2nd time and my hair still looking like an infusium before commercial, i resent pictures of my hair to the salon to show them it looked the exact same as before I came in the first time, but even more fried from the chemicals. They texted "sorry", we don't think this is a good product for your hair and offered me a free trim instead. Politely called salon to talk to the owner and was told twice she was on vacation but promised to get a call back. Still waiting for the call since April. This is an amazing salon if you want your hair to look worse than before. Better to take all your money and throw it straight in the trash. Place is a joke and wouldn't send my worst enemy there. If you're considering going there, I strongly urge you to run, not walk, from those doors. read more

Just had my first appointment in months and it couldn't have been better. I was concerned given the current health situation, but felt completely comfortable upon arrival. I had my temperature taken, everyone was socially distanced and wearing masks, and the appointments were staggered to allow time to disinfect between clients. They really have thought of everything to keep us safe and they don't add an extra charge for additional PPE. The staff and owner were wonderful. read more

I went to Renew Salon for the first time on Thursday for a Brazilian Blowout. I read reviews on here and thought I should try it since it's close to my place of employment and the feedback was mostly positive. I'm very particular about my hair - it's thick and I have a lot of it so I always do my research before going anywhere. I've gone to places in the city and all around NJ. Usually I go to someplace because it's been recommended by a friend, but something told me to try Renew and I'm glad I did! I was cheerfully greeted at the front desk when I walked in and was quickly taken by Kristin A. She was wonderful and made the long process go quickly. She answered any questions I had and then started the process. She and the woman who washed my hair both offered drinks- coffee, tea. One of the previous reviews mentioned that it seems like everyone truly enjoys working here - I got the same vibe. After Kristin applied the treatment, dried and flat ironed my hair, she re-washed it and blew it out, which was very nice. It was so soft and so straight. I loved it. I waited to do my review until after I washed my hair and saw what it looked like with just leaving the house without any major styling. I've gotten the Brazilian Blowout at several other places and I have to say I was very pleased with the way it looks. For my hair to be mostly straight with just a quick blow of the dryer is a big deal! Job well done! As long as my hair continues to last like this for the normal 4 months - then I will be back! I tried this salon out for the first time by having a massage and facial. I booked the appointments last minute but the staff was very friendly and accommodating. No attitude whatsoever. Always a plus when dealing with salons. I now forget the name of the lady who gave me the facial and massage. However, the facial was very nice and relaxing. My skin felt so soft and pampered. The massage was nice, more product could have been used when massaging my back to make it smoother, but the lady was very thorough. The only recommendations I would make is to make the massage room darker. The blinds in the room create a glare as you are lying down. And it doesn't really provide for a relaxing atmosphere. You're keenly aware you're at a salon/spa the whole time. The prices are competitive but not over-the-top as many salons in this area. I would return for a facial but not for a massage. read more

I have had my hair cut and colored by Jeanine and Harry for more years than I'd like to admit, and I can attest that their skills are top notch. They will adjust the color each time you visit if you want to go a shade lighter or darker, and everyone I see walk out of there has a great haircut. All of the staff treat the customers with warmth and kindness. My daughter got her hair cut at a different salon in our home town, and for more money they couldn't even make it even on both sides. I got waxed here and it was the best experience I've ever had with waxing. This is the only service I have gotten done here because I normally go to another cheaper salon, but there was a groupon so I gave it a try. If I had more money to spend on the services, I would definitely make the switch. I have been getting waxed for a few years I'm not afraid of waxing, but this place uses a variety of great waxes that don't pull on the skin at all. The woman who worked with me (I can't remember her name but I think it started with a Z) was extremely friendly and accommodating. I had a number of services done at Renew and was very satisfied. Here's a run-down: Hair: I had my hair cut by Anna. I have a somewhat complicated short haircut that requires a lot of texturizing, careful sculpting, etc. so I am always wary of going to new stylists. However, Anna did a great job - she was quick, but took enough weight and length off so that my hair laid as it should. I've already gotten two compliments from strangers (only in the past five days) on how much they love my hair! Nails: I had a pedicure and a Shellac manicure done by Elisa. They were both great! Not only is Elisa about the sweetest person and the nicest person to talk to, but she is a total perfectionist about nails (she said so herself), so my nails came out looking beautiful! She was gentle and took her time while doing my nails, which I appreciated - the experience didn't feel like the cattle call it can sometimes be at larger salons. Definitely the best mani-pedi experience I've ever had; I really recommend her. I just wish Renew was in Virginia, where I live, and not NJ! read more
