They are genuinely sweet and motherly and appear to have a lifetime of experience -- they really know what they are doing. (Inexperienced barbers always make me tense! Don't want to discriminate against the inexperienced, but I do not want a bad haircut!) The place has a unique and lovely homely vibe -- very Mom n Pop -- love it! The cost is a bit more than Great Clips and you pay a dollar extra if you dont pay in cash, but I know I'll get a good haircut. (It's worth the 8 mile drive for me.) And I tipped $20 for $280. Yet when I complained that it felt like a ripoff bacuse the work was so poor, he invented this new story that: (1) I received a "retouch on my roots" that I should have paid extra for (2) in a perfect world I should pay EXTRA (WHAT?) for bringing my own dye in (because Arctic Fox is so controversial??!?) (3) that "the area is expensive" (4) that apparently i need an ongoing longterm relationship to have a dye job that doesn't leave me feeling ripped off (5) that "we always have free dialog" so that "you can alawys get alterations to your service complimentary of course" -- this is the biggest sticking point. Oh really? You have a dialog for complimentary alterations? When I messaged my complaint directly on Yelp, there was no response. The same inbox that booked my appointments suddenly went silent. Why was I not offered free alterations if I don't like my service? BECUASE THAT'S A STORY YOU TELL ONLY ON YELP. THAT OPTION WAS NEVER GIVEN TO ME. This is a man who tells one story to the public, and another in private. Personally, I call that LYING and DISHONEST. ---- He then said "i DID WHAT WAS NEEDED" to explain a bad job that was unsatisfying. So was MICROWAVING FISH AND EATING IT IN FRONT OF ME needed? However, they were able to squeeze me in for a same-day appointment when my mom called an hour or so beforehand since she already had an appointment herself at 3pm. I really appreciate them being so accommodating. I got my hair done by one of the women working, and she made sure to hold a mirror up to the back of my head to see if the length cut was OK with me. I also asked for curtain bangs, and she made sure the bangs were a good length that I liked. She also styled my hair, and took her time making my bangs look nice. I appreciated the small details and personal touches! The hair wash was nice and relaxing. They combed the tangles out of my hair in the sink area and overall, the wash, cut and style did not take very long compared to other salons I have been previously. Well, the third time's the charm because Jenny at Modern Edge is fantastic! I explained the problems I'd had at the last place and Jenny said she could match the color with no problem without having to put my hair through more torture. And she did! She colored my roots and any other mismatched areas she saw, then gave me a super cute cut and blow-out. The salon is gorgeous with a lot of elegant touches throughout. They also offer massage and nail services. A woman was there getting a massage while I was having my hair done and the relaxing music was piped throughout the space - I thought I would fall asleep in the chair! Jenny explained that she makes sure customers get all the time they pay for - not like at most massage places where they count dressing and undressing as part of your time. And here's the best part - her prices are great! I had major sticker shock moving from the South, but Jenny's prices aren't much more than I paid back home. The last person I went to charged me 2.5 times more than Jenny did but did a terrible job. My first visit was the day before my birthday and I felt like discovering this gem of a salon and stylist was a gift! I will be back often and plan to try out the other services as well.
