The girl I spoke to, Paige, was very accommodating and told me that that would be fine. She was also very helpful and friendly while I was at the salon for my appointment. I am not, however, too thrilled with my highlights...they turned out far lighter than what I'd asked for. I also wasn't a fan of the fact that my stylist, Kim, disappeared when she should have been watching to see how the colour was taking. In terms of the cut, I still maintain that a razor shouldn't be used on curly hair. The end result is that I have a lot of volume at the ends of my hair and not nearly enough at the top. I made mention of this during the cut, but I was told that this was a very sharp razor so it would be fine. It's not the worst cut I've had in my life by any means, but certainly not the best. A LOT more length was taken off than I requested as well (curly girls know how hard it is to grow your hair out and know the heartache of watching it all fall to the floor). However, the reason for my 3 star review was the lack of professionalism during my cut when Kim took a phone call. She said that it was regarding her mother (which I took to mean that her mother was ill) but the conversation (which was not in English) seemed jovial and there was lots of laughter. She was styling my hair with one hand and had the phone in the other. Not cool considering she had her next customer waiting in the chair next to mine glaring at me for my appointment going over time. I think that Kim is a very talented stylist, but she needs to learn that her customers time is precious and that they deserve her full attention during their appointment. They are, after all, paying for it.

Pelo opened up this past summer and seems to be doing well, while there was only me and one other customer, I was told that it has been busy. A haircut costs around $40 - $50, but I got a discount since it was my first time and the final cost after tip came up to around $45 which I think was reasonable for the quality of the cut and level of service I received. I booked an appointment with the guy I used to go to and his cutting style remained as good as I could remember (no surprises there) A big plus for me was just how relaxed everything felt there. One of the stylists who had no customer was wandering around cracking jokes with myself and my stylist and when my stylist had to leave to take a pretty important phone call (he asked me permission first of course) the "free" stylists kept me company and it was very nice to just feel welcome in a relaxed atmosphere with no crazy music playing loudly or anything something which is not very easy to come by in some of the more busier venues I've been to downtown. Not a lot of negatives to say apart from the already mentioned cost factor and minor location inconvenience for me (but that's just because I spend most of my downtown time a little to the East). Their set up is very similar to Toni and Guys with the whole fancy hair washes and attention to specific details and all that. If I ever needed a more than standard haircut, this will definitely be my first choice as customer service is a huge factor for me and their cutting talent is more than what I look for!

In my business physicality's are very important and hair is high on that list but unfortunately I have never been skilled at doing my own hair so finding a trusted and reliable salon is a life savor! The salon itself is actually quite small with a more unassuming design style; I enjoy feeling comfortable in my surroundings so the super posh designs some salons have actually make me less comfortable if you can believe it. The salon is exceptionally clean and modern with less emphasis on advertisements and decent use of floor space. The secretary was very polite and greeted me immediately even though the salon was packed. You can tell a good salon often just by how many clients are there so I knew it was a popular place. I was actually recommended by a photographer friend of mine who raves about this salon and I could certainly see why just by the caliber of customer service I received. I had my hair cut and styled by the owner of the salon ( I am soooo horrible with names it's actually terrible!) his name slips my mind but he worked along side Elmer Olson with many models and even celebrities. He was obviously very skilled and super gentle, ( lots of stylists tend to tug at my often unruly locks ) he assessed my needs quickly and I was astounded by how down to earth he was. I was expecting him to try to sell me on all sorts of things among the top I thought would be new extensions but he was so flattering and told me my hair was actually great. Again this kinda stunned me as most hair stylists I find try to convince you of all the things wrong with your hair and all the products or services they can offer to "fix" it. But not this time he just told me all kinds of tips for managing my curly hair, he didn't even push product or anything I decided on my own to go with the amazing Moroccan mousse he was using on me that smelled so divine. Hair cut, wash and style was $60 I think and well worth that plus the tip. A hairstylist who not only works well with my hair and my budget but is honest too? That's hard to find so you better be sure I'll be driving back out to Woodbridge for my next trim or the bangs I'm debating on getting, this time I'll get pics!

I asked for balayage she gave me ombre and made me look like a skunk. the assistant hurt me when brushing through my hair so bad I was almost in tears she also took 6 hours to do my hair!! I was there from ten am until 6 pm. Weeks after I had breakage as I brushed my hair little pieces would fall out. when I asked to speak to the manager I was treated with disrespec. The owner Jordan was also disrespectful. They also have a new online system where they make you pay your deposit before hand and tell you the total is 315 only to tell you it is actually 350. They are rude and all they care about is your money not your hair and have no human decency of how to speak to people on the phone. they scammers there is no option to cancel online your appointment after they receive you deposit they don't answer the phone and then purposely will tell you the manager isn't available so you don't talk to them and you can't cancel your appointment.

It is very simple making appointments via their website and I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for service. The salon is very clean and decorated with chic decor. Paired with the relaxing music they play and the fashion shows running on the TVs, it results in a very elegant and calming ambience. I am usually asked by the staff if I would like a drink or snack multiple times throughout my visits. Tina always asks what I want or what my hair concerns are and works around that. She is very friendly and a great conversationalist, but also knows when to let the conversation die down and doesn't force it to continue. You can tell by the way she works that she is very good at what she does and is very efficient. All in all, after struggling to find a salon I was fully satisfied with and can stay loyal to, I am very happy to have found Tony Shama's and plan to continue coming here. I initially came across Medulla & Co on a blog probably in 2011 that discussed that their owner was one of the few in Toronto that knew the correct ombré techniques learned in Los Angeles when it first became popular and he trained his staff on hair painting. Fast track to years later and I'm still in love every time Jazmin colors me. The colors are always blended so perfectly. I even lived in LA and went to THE salon in Beverly Hills known for balayage. $450 US later and Jazmin is way way better at making it look more natural. I'm usually super nonchalant about a cut so will get cut elsewhere for cheap, but color is super important to me and want the best! Trust me they know color here.

I believe Adriana is the one of the lead hair stylists and store owner. She did balayage on me and "cleaned up" my hair cut. After we discussed my preferences, we agreed it would be best for her to simply trim some frayed hair rather than give me a full hair cut. In terms of colour, she did deliver on the "cool ashy blonde" I asked for. I would have preferred for the colour to be lighter, but she did caution me my naturally dark hair may not lift as much (which was the case). When we were almost done and she was styling my hair, she noticed some yellow/unsightly tones at the back of my head that weren't entirely toned. Despite already toning, washing and drying my hair, she stopped to re-tone that section. I thought that was very honest of her to do that. It shows her integrity and care to attention for her work. To say that I was hesitant is an under statement. At first I couldn't find the salon because it's actually called Jacobs hair salon. I had booked an appointment with Sara, I explained to Sara what cut I wanted sadly she wasn't able to give me that cut due to my hair being straight on top and curly mid scalp. I wanted to bring out as many of my curls out as possible (I love my curls) So Sara went to work in the most unconventional way that I have ever experienced (it was new to me) I don't think Sara used a comb or a brush, she started cutting and I had my fingers crossed under the cape. Wanted to try something different and saw this place specializes in curls. I waited about 5 mins after arriving before I got in a chair. My stylist, Sara, did a great job. I showed her a photo and I really don't think she could have matched it any closer. She was kind and attentive throughout the process and made sure things were going in the desired direction. Super pleased with the results. I will definitely be back.
