I am normally not one to complain, but I had such a bad experience here that it has stuck with me and given its high rating I feel compelled to warn others that their experience might not be positive. I had my brows dyed and shaped here a while ago. I asked that they only be tinted, but the person doing the tint STRONGLY suggested she shape them as well. I agreed expecting her to pluck or trim my brows, but she proceeded to wax my face with little warning. I have very sensitive skin and it left red marks around my eyes. I have red hair and asked that the tint be close to my tone, maybe a little darker. I also asked that the shape match my natural shape, and I specified that they should be mostly flat with a downward curve at the ends. To my horror, I left with strongly arched BLACK eyebrows. I am terrible with confrontation when it comes to paid services so I smiled, thanked her, and broke down in the car. I immediately rubbed and washed the color off as best I could but I looked pretty foolish for a spell. If you have specific expectations for your face, if you have an uncommon hair/brow color, or if you value being listened to, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I have been using Sugar Moon for quite a while now. What to like about this place: -sugaring is great -- less painful than waxing and less likely to get ingrown hairs after -- lasts longer too -the staff - the staff are all great there -- friendly, helpful and always nice! -the website - they just redid their online website -- now you can book your appointments online --- sooooo soooo handy (I wish more places had this) I have never had other services except the sugaring -- but they do the whole range of aesthetics. This place definitely deserves a 5/5. I went for a Brazilian with Chrisel (can't remember spelling, sorry). The online booking system makes everything so easy as you can choose the technician you want and see when they are available, and work things out with your own schedule. It's much easier then spending 15min on the phone with someone. When I arrived to the place, it was quite small but very clean and cute on the inside. Chrisel was so informative as this was my first time sugaring, and she was very gentle and tried to make the whole process as smooth as possible. I would say sugaring is just a LITTLE bit less painful than hot wax. But since it's all natural, I much prefer this method. At the end of my appointment, they gave me a small chocolate treat which I thought was a nice touch. Will definitely be back! read more

I alternate between Danforth and College. For some reason, I like Danforth much better! I have no reason as to why but I like the little parking lot beside the building and the waiting area is a bit warmer and comfy than the College St. location. I'm a total sugaring convert. Most of the technicians work at either location. Today, a booking error turned into a miracle. I usually go with Cailey and she is awesome and does a great job. Something must have gone wrong when I booked, because I was given a different person than usual. Her name is Cricel and she is the most thorough sugarist ever! First off, she is super thorough. When I got home I looked and there were no strays anywhere (and I have fine, blond hair so that happens often). This was by far the fastest and best brazilian I have ever had. One of my all-natural, hippy, believes-in-alternative-medicine coworkers recommended this place to me when I said that I wanted to get a brazilian. She said she had awful experiences with wax and loved this place. Most of my waxing experience had been me doing it myself, except for the eyebrows where I usually get a trained professional. I'm just mentioning that because wax definitely hurts more when you do it yourself. So, in comparison, sugaring was a breeze. I'm not going to say no pain, but definitely less pain. The website says that your hairs need only be 1/4 of an inch versus 1/2 of an inch for waxing. I'd say that if you want the best results, grow it in a bit longer because they can always trim a little. I got a brazilian and my eyebrows done. The method they use is really cool, they have this ball of sugar that's warm (but not hot) and they pull a portion of it on your skin, and with the rest of the sugar ball attached, they use that to quickly rip the portion on your skin off. It's very effective, but not as strong a pull as waxing. Although this method is great for areas where you want to remove all the hair, it's really crappy for places like eyebrows because it's not as precise as when wax is painted on your eyebrow with a toothpick. I recommend this place, but just not for eyebrows because the lady who did my eyebrows just ended up using a tweezer to pluck most of it off - and it took a long time for her to do that. And I agree with the other reviewers when they say the staff is really nice - they are and they give you complimentary tea while you're waiting! I'd come back, but I've gotten laser hair removal since. read more

There are a couple reasons why I won't adopt another lady to do my services for me. 1. Most the employees are really nice but to be honest is seems fake and 2. I recently purchased a Groupon for Sugar Moon. I've been sugaring for a few years now, but my loyalty is elsewhere and I couldn't bring myself to betray my beloved sugarer. So I booked a facial instead. The space is clean, pretty, and calming, though there is a small ticking clock in the treatment room that drove me bananas. The facial was nice (once we got past the 'ozone' steam that made me cough and cough). Relaxing. Pretty smelling. And the extractions Kaylee (sp?) did were much less painful than those done at my last facial. She also did a good job of explaining the impact of various factors on skin and helping me to understand what's behind my occassional acne, so that was nice. That said, I hate the "subtle" salespitch for Dermalogica products. I just can't imagine justifying an $80 facial cleanser and I don't want to feel like a delinquent because of this. I know this isn't a problem unique to Sugar Moon, and I understand how things work, but I still don't like it. Also, payment is cash, credit or debit, but they only accept tips in cash, so make sure you have some on hand when you go, or you'll be stiffing your aesthetician like I did. read more

I love sugar waxing, I am a ginger so my skin is sensitive and is really affected by normal waxing so this is a god sent. Yes it still hurts, but really only when the sugar is being applied the ripping doesn't hurt as much as normal waxing. I have been to both location and I as well prefer this one because the parking is really easy (I book after work and have to drive so subway is not an option). The entire place is really clean and bright which is very comforting. These girls REALLY know what they are doing, I have had three or four of the technicians now and they are all great and very efficient. I get the Brazilian and I am good about keeping to 5 weeks so I get 20min appointments but most of the time it takes 10-15 which is fantastic. They also have a lot of fun monthly promotions that are great, February was a free vagazzle which was super funny and cute and September was eyebrow tinting. All in all a really great place and I will be so gutted when I move and cant come here anymore. read more

Sugar Moon deserves 5 stars just for having online booking. Seriously. Any place where I don't have to talk to a human being in order to make an appointment (no matter how lovely the human beings who answer the phone might be) is aces in my book. I'd never had sugaring done before, and after having my, uh, lily "de-gilded" at Sugar Moon (as well as my eyebrows and upper lip), I'm pretty much a convert. The process itself seems a little bit less painful than waxing; on the other hand, the hair is removed in much smaller sections than one might have using regular strip wax and thus the process takes a little bit longer than your typical Brazilian. But the end (pardon the pun) result is just as good. The aestheticians are really nice and the salon is bright and clean. Plenty of available street parking, too. Although I've only had sugaring done so far, I'll definitely be back to Sugar Moon to try other services. Thumbs up! read more

Went for my first time tonight, I usually go for waxing but I needed something for today and as most salons are closed on Mondays and they were open, I went for them. Sugaring is a very different technique than waxing, and while it still hurts a wee bit, its a different kind of hurt than waxing. I think overall its gentler, as my skin isnt anywhere near as red or sore as it usually is after waxing. Apparently waxing causes less skin irritation (read: ingrown hairs!) so this may be heavent sent. read more

Sugar Moon is my favorite salon in Toronto. I actually travel across town, out of my way just to get my legs sugared there - that's how great they are!! The staff is professional, friendly and always make you feel welcome, the services are very reasonable and the sugaring is the best procedure for unwanted hair. As an avid waxer for many years, I've discovered sugaring is by far a better way. Less hair grows in and when it does, it's very soft and fine. No wax strips so less breakage and ingrown hairs. Unlike waxing, which hurt everytime I did it, sugaring becomes less and less painful with each visit. I cannot recommend this salon highly enough. Try it once. Originally scheduled to see Jamie but she was running behind, so the receptionist advised that Chrisselle would take care of me. Both ladies were friendly/accommodating. For anyone coming here and getting sugaring done for the first time, sugaring uses only natural ingredients. The preparation is 100% natural; contains water and sugar; sometimes lemon or essential oils with no chemicals; fragrance or colouring. It's hypoallergenic, causes no skin irritation and can be edible. Waxing however, is made of resins and toxic chemicals that can be irritating and toxic to the skin. Sugaring paste is applied at body temperature and won't burn your skin, whereas hot wax must be heated to a higher temperature in order to become liquefied which can cause burning & scarring. Sugar paste can be cleaned up easily with water. You will never leave a sugaring treatment feeling sticky. But since wax contains resins, chemical solvents are required to remove its residue. The sugar doesn't attach to live skin cells and it will only take away dead skin cells - unlike waxing which also removes live skin cells. I think it is worth the price and you get discounts when you keep coming back. Highly recommend Chrisselle (she is also the OG Educator so she knows wtf she's doing). read more

I LOVE the ladies that work at Sugar Moon. They're friendly, knowledgeable, fun and professional. They teach you about how sugaring works and are very keen to make sure you know after-care routines to get the best results from your hair removal. Every one of them believes in the philosophy at sugar moon and their passion is infectious, you'll be eager to share the experience with others. I've never personally done spray tanning there but they also offer this service and I've seen the girls who do it; they're glowing and most importantly not carrot-orange. My ONE complaint about sugar moon: it's so incredibly popular, that last minute drop-ins are not a thing. You MUST book appointments and usually at least a week or two in advance. I think I just had the best Brazilian (and underarm) sugaring possible. I am traveling for work and needed maintenance during my long trip. I have been to probably 15 sugar spas and can honestly say Sugarmoon is amazing. First, the crazed traveler that I am, was welcomed with a warm tea, cold water and a very nice receptionist (Alison). The spa is small, and cozy with a ton of great product lining the walls (with testers, too). I headed downstairs the restroom before my treatment, it was very clean and smelled great. The room where I received my treatment (also downstairs) was very clean and bright - so the esthetician could easily see every little hair. (I often wonder why some spas have dark rooms for sugaring?) My session could not have been more professional and my esthetician was very thorough. I've been coming to Sugarmoon since January for brazilians and as a person with bad allergies and sensitive skin I honestly don't have a single complaint about this place. The atmosphere is very clean and super adorable. The staff is ALWAYS happy and friendly. I've dealt with various people (pretty much whoever's available) and even though they all have their own techniques, they're all very well trained and do a great job!! I'll be coming back here for a long time. If I had to say anything my only issue would be that the procedures are significantly more expensive than just a standard wax. But honestly, with these types of services, you get what you pay for ESPECIALLY with a brazilian thats extremely intrusive and can be uncomfortable for most people, I gladly pay the extra price for an enjoyable, clean, and well-done job. My friend's mom mentioned sugaring to me a while ago as an alternative to waxing. I ended up trying "Sugar Me Up" on Danforth and really liked it. However, they are insanely hard to get a hold of to the point of having to walk in and hope there's something available. So alas, I decided to make the switch to Sugarmoon. I've been twice so far, and the staff, atmosphere, and job they do is fantastic. Everything is peaceful and clean. Cailey was awesome; she struck up conversation which made the experience way more personable and (seem) way less painful. Went here for the first time and was very happy with my experience! I have never been sugared or waxed before, so this was new and I was nervous. Parking is easy (paid street or nearby paid lot.) Was welcomed by the front desk girl immediately and met my sugarist within a minute of walking in! They gave me a form to fill out since it was my first time and I didn't have to wait when I was done, even though I was early for my appointment they got me in right away. My sugarist, Alex, took me downstairs and explained how to get ready and let me change and to let her know whenever I was ready. She waited in the hall so I didn't have to go looking for her haha, she was right there ready to go. They give you a soft paper/tissue type disposable undergarment to wear for a bikini sugaring, which I didn't know but was very happy for! She explained everything to me as we went and told me from the beginning if I needed to take a breather at any time to just say so, which was very comforting. During the process the told me when to breath in and out so I was exhaling when she pulled the sugar off, which actually helped so much. Throughout the entire thing she guided my breathing and was always asking how I was doing and if I was ok. I didn't ever end up needing to take a break but her comforting was so great. We chatted the whole time and it never felt forced or like pointless small talk, and discovered we actually had a few things in common! She was so genuine, I definitely recommend Alex and I'd have no hesitation to see her again. The sugaring result was perfect and exactly what I wanted. She made sure to get straight lines on the sides and top of my bikini line, which I don't even know how she did considering its a ball of sugar! She went over the area to make sure she didn't miss anything and asked me several times if how far she went in was what I wanted or if she should keep going. I really appreciated that because she made sure I got the result I wanted. After it was done she waited in the hall for me to get dressed and we went upstairs together where she gave me some really good dark chocolate and a card explaining what to expect and avoid after I left (she'd already explained it to me in the room beforehand as well.) There was a regular client paying at the desk and chatting with her sugarist and they seemed to have a really great rapport with each other, which is always a good sign! I paid and chatted with the front desk girl for a few minutes before leaving, she was very friendly and very real also. No one was fake friendly at all, just really cool, genuine women. There are small little envelopes on the front desk with pens for you to leave your cash tip in, make sure to write your sugarists name on the envelope! The website prices do not include tax or tips. I found Sugarmoon through Toronto's best waxing / hair removal studios for nonpermanent hair removal. Sugarmoon already + immediately stood out to me among the list of already 'best- waxing salons'. They also obviously have other services, but they are best known for their body sugaring method (least painful method compared to normal heat waxing and less implications for after-care), so I am not surprised price is just a bit more.
