I was hoping to find my forever hair person. I explained how I wanted my hair cut to correct a horrible previous hair cut several months earlier. I told her I was trying to grow out one side that had been butchered back in September. When she finished cutting my hair I told her I use a gel and mousse on my hair because it's thick but fine and I needed the extra products to get the style I was going for. She told me that she didn't have gel and if I came back I could bring my own. Once she blew dry my hair I could see that one side was shorter than the other and left the other side which was the side I wanted trimmed so that it would eventually match up to the other side that was butchered by the other stylist. She told me that the salon was more geared to a younger clientele and she was not use to cutting and styling my type of bob. I am not that old but I guess she felt that was a good answer to "satisfy" me with the LOOK. She also had someone sitting in the chair next to us waiting for a haircut. She talked with the other client most of the time I was in her chair. I am so mad at myself for giving her 20plus for a tip for a hair cut I could have gotten at Super Cuts. I just got my hair colored vibrant purple by Lizett and she did a very lovely job, I really recommend her if you want vivid hair very accurate to your inspo! I previously had never had a positive experience getting my hair colored (always getting something different from what I wanted) but I truly left here satisfied. she was very patient, meticulous, and communicated well. The process took about 5 hours but I was expecting that (long hair). Although I came with really uneven colors and dark roots, the end result was extremely smooth, saturated, and blended. The salon itself is also very clean, organized, and has a lovely design! Yesterday I visited for the first time, and I have to say, I was a bit skeptical going into it since I've never done much with my hair before. I was especially nervous about going lighter since my hair was naturally black, but I'm so glad I trusted Carly! From the start, she made me feel completely at ease. I came here because it was recommended by a few friends of mine. I don't think I'll be returning, though. I asked for something specific, yet pretty simple (medium-dark brown, with lighter, caramel highlights). I'm not sure if my stylist didn't have the technical skill to do it or what, but it came out a solid color (no highlights) and an ashy brown. I was hesitant to go back and ask her to fix it, mostly because my stylist talked about her politics the entire time, even when I tried to politely change the subject. I found the whole experience unprofessional and uncomfortable. To her credit, when I asked if she could fix my hair she was willing to. However, she again didn't do what I asked for. She gave me a blonde balayage. I felt a little crazy, like maybe I wasn't explaining what I wanted correctly, but after showing other people the example photos I had saved for my stylist, all of them agreed that she gave me something completely out of the realm of what I wanted. I have been coming to Salon OC for years, and just seeing whoever was available. The haircuts were always fine--not spectacular, but definitely not bad. BUT I made an appointment with Karen (to be clear, it's Karen with an "E" not the Karin with an "I" who was reviewed poorly). Ladies, this woman literally gave me the best haircut of my life! It not only laid perfectly when she did it, but everyday after that when I styled it, it also came out perfect! I just came back for a trim and again, she left my hair looking and feeling amazing! Not only is she gifted with doing hair, but she is an amazing human. Very friendly, very kind and made me feel super comfortable. I will say this though to be super clear: don't go to Karen if you are in a rush or in a time crunch. She takes her time to perfect the cut and works best when she is allowed the time to do so. While I know this may sound like a turn off for some because everyone is so "busy", I assure you it is absolutely 100% worth your time to carve out a good hour or so to get your hair done by Karen. COVID could have been a blessing indisguise for Salon OC as they are now renovated with a fresh new look. The shop is extremely beautiful inside and feels homey but still see the business side. The style inside is boho sheik and the decor is amazingly cute and simple! My hair stylist is Karlyn and she is absolutely great at what she does. Very friendly and I feel comfortable going to her. Making the appointment was tough not because of the stylist but because of closures. When we finally got the ball rolling two months later I was pleased and excited about my hair. Stylist was attentive at first and kind when I asked her to add a little more color to look more like the picture I showed her. She answered all my questions as far as after care and shampoo suggestions. Right away my hair felt really dry. I reached out and was told it was normal with lightening. After a week or two my hair was turning lighter and lighter and bronzed. I reached out asking for advice and was told she's get a product to me and never heard back. I am really disappointed considering I had really healthy hair and after spending over $200 I didn't get what I asked for. Stylist said she felt bad and would bring me back in if she could. Tried to make an appt as a new customer and got the run around, they want a non refundable deposit before they will book an appt. I am a new customer and expect a more personal relationship with my stylist, especially when I wasn't even given the opportunity to speak to a stylist first to make sure we were on the same page. The owner finally called me to discuss and it was just as bad, all I got was that she is very busy so she has an assistant help make appts. Well, I'm a busy business person also, there was 20 text messages exchanged and still never got my answers or the personal service that one would expect to get from a stylist. I really liked this salon. I called earlier in the day to see if they accept walk-ins and I got Jennifer. She was attentive and knew how to cut a mean layer. I know layered haircut seems simple to rave on about, but based from my experiences it is pretty hard to hit that balance between i-didnt-get-a haircut look and borderline mullet looking hair. Jennifer was VERY attentive. After drying my hair, she kept asking if its enough layers, if I wanted my hair curled etc. i love how she slightly over layered the front to give it that extra movement since my hair is really flat. Karen Salazar is who they made an appointment with and I was not disappointed!!!!! She made my hair looks so beautiful and natural. It was the best balayage I have ever had.
